Mission: Space was cool before it mattered
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.04.25
(USS Exeter -Observation Lounge - CO, Captain Trip Williams, MCO/3O
Lt.Colonel Tyrek Na’Rel - 1840)
After having a brief dinner , in which Tyrek insisted that they honor the
Romulan tradition of not discussing professional matters over a hot meal.
Tyrek finished with his meal and sat his silverware down.
" The other wrestlers on your academy team must have felt rather inadequate
compared to you, Captain Williams. " Tyrek said with a friendly laugh,
finishing up the small talk as he took a sip of his drink.
“No really. Weight classes exist for a reason, and I was kind of on the low
end of heavyweight, so I was constantly having to keep my weight down
around 210 lbs because that was the weight class I could exceed at, but my
frame and build is better suited for a weight around 235 to 250. I had to
cut a shit ton of weight to compete and excel. But as soon as I was done,
and especially at mars, I went from 215 to 235 in no time, put back muscle
mass and got shredded. Not that anyone but my wife sees me with my shirt
off.
” Such loyalty to one's spouse has its merits, I'm sure, captain." Tyrek
chuckled.
“But yeah, the gym is home.”
" Onto the matter of this curveball, as you named it. There is one word
that came to mind and that word is Cohesiveness. These marines are a
specifically trained group of individuals and since I am being charged ever
so graciously by your superiors and mine to…" Tyrek motioned with his hands
in a circular forward motion.
" Oversee and command these individuals , I will expect a profound level of
cohesiveness among them, Sir."
Tyrek began to explain his perception of the current situation.
“Well the real question is, can you make them cohesive. 8 romulans, 2
Remans, and the rest are from federation races who have spent a long time
distrusting your people. If you want to work on cohesiveness that’s where
it starts. Not just integrating the Romulan and Reman officers into the
unit but also the larger crew.”
Tyrek sighed and looked down at his hand as his finger started to shake
slightly. He flexed his hand and looked at Trip.
" The goal I have in mind is to separate the Romulans and Remans away from
each other, to have them work with the diverse group of Federation marines.
To have them strive to achieve the same goals . I'm fully aware of each
person's respective individuality, in fact it's something to be cherished,
but they will learn to be marines first. Besides it wasn't that many years
ago that Remans were nothing more than slaves to their romulan
counterparts." Tyrek mentioned.
" The races of the Federation are historically far more tolerant. If there
are any issues among the marines in the nature of intolerance they will
swiftly learn that I myself have no tolerance for such ignorance." Tyrek
remarked.
“I just don't want any fist fights.”
" Agreed." Tyrek replied.
" I also want to talk about the arrangement of quarters. If it's possible I
would like the marines to be quartered in the same area and preferably
among themselves. From my understanding Federation marines practice this in
their basic training as do members of the Tal Kalot , our equivalent of the
Federation marines. No connection to the Tal Shiar might I add." Tyrek
mentioned to Captain Williams.
“Well, it would make sense to group them together. Does that mean you are
gonna move down there? I’d much rather have you where the rest of the
senior staff is. I’m assuming you will have an attachment XO to keep shit
in line down there.”
" For medical reasons, I will remain in my current quarters, for now at
least. " Tyrek responded.
Trip pressed a button on the table and a holographic projection of the
Exeter appeared floating over the table.
“Ok, so, we currently have 500 personnel on board, 400 Crew with 100
civilians.” Trip paused. “My wife is gonna hate me if I have to let go of
some of the civilian staff., but we don’t have accommodations for 25 extra
without dipping into the vip and guest quarters. So we’re gonna need to
find room for 24 people, since you’re already on board.”
Tyrek looked at the display.
" Even if we have to split them up to accommodate, there should be room."
Trip took a quick look at the marine crew manifest sent to him. “Scratch
that, we only need to find rooms for 23 people. One of them is the spouse
of an existing crew member. That makes things easier.” Trip looked at the
schematics again.
“Ok, actually this works quite well. There are living quarters on Deck 15
that can be given over to the detachment. They had been used by civilians,
but the last batch we started bringing in more couples who were sharing
living spaces which kind of freed up the room. It’s being used as storage
presently. The shuttle bay there can be used to house the Yellow Jacket
class drop ship. I think, if we have work crews going all night, we can
convert the spaces into barracks style.” Trip enlarged the schematic. “We
take these rooms over here, combine them, and make them into 4 quarters
that can house four people each. Then we make this one here one for three.
Then, we take this storage space here which shares a wall with the bathroom
of this small quarters here, make this a shared bathroom adjoining two
single quarters. Then we have these two quarters here just stay as is. That
should be it. Looking at the manifest. The four of the four man bunks go to
your 16 Enlisted Marines. The three 3rd Lieutenants can take the three man
bunk. The shared bathroom suite quarters can be taken by your 2nd
Lieutenants. The two normal quarters can go to the other Marine Pilot and
your XO. That should cover living space. If I have done my Math right, 16
enlisted, plus three third lieutenants, plus two second lieutenant, plus
two pilots, plus 1 XO, Plus you equals 25.”
" Well done Captain Williams. Your arrangements should accommodate the
marines very well. " Tyrek stated.
“And hopefully that means we don’t have to fire any civilians. Because I’m
gonna bank on our civilian couples making playmates for my kids…if you
catch my meaning.”
Tyrek nodded.
" Yes of course. With these arrangements I'm sure the civilians would be
able to sire offspring with no challenges." He knew the captain had the
manifest of the marines that were due to arrive. Tyrek pulled out his padd.
" I would like the list of the marines who will be arriving, Sir. The need
to be informed is a top priority of mine."
“Here it is.” Trip said as he slid over the PADD.
" Thank you Captain. " Tyrek said as he scrolled through the list.
" Well that's very interesting…"
“What is that, that our counselors wife is coming on board and is a marine?”
" One Federation marine is half klingon." Tyrek laughed.
" Well I'll take extra care of that one. I'll keep the competitive pissing
matches to a minimum. Although friendly competition does encourage
development and break barriers." Tyrek remarked.
“Oh I mean it all depends on what the other race is. I mean half klingon,
half pakled might be dangerous. But I knew a half klingon, half vulcan on
mars. Interesting fellow. The most logical warrior I’ve ever met.”
Tyrek laughed.
" The true manifestation of my nightmares." He joked
“Nevris, are you up for this?”
