Mission: Space was cool before it mattered
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.04.25
(USS Exeter - CFO’s office - CFO, Lt(sg) Trinity Frost and ACFO, Lt. JG
Clint Hale - 0900)
Clint hadn’t planned on meeting with his department head until a little
later, but he figured he should probably take his friend's advice and check
in sooner.
“Do you have a moment ma’am.” He said as he approached the door to
Trinity’s office. “Just wanted to report in, Lt. Junior gade Clint Hale, I
am your new ACFO for support craft.”
Trinity looked up at the newcomer, and stood up, shaking the man’s hand.
“Welcome aboard Lieutenant, I’ve been expecting you, thank you for dropping
in early. Sit, please.”
“Well, the credit goes to Ensign De Luca in Science, she’s the one who
encouraged me to check in early.” Clint said sitting down.
Trinity sat back down, and shifted in her seat. “Excuse the boxes, I’m
still unpacking. Lieutenant Senior grade Trinity Frost, CFO. You mentioned
Support Craft. Do you have ratings for what we have?”
“I’m rated for everything ma’am. I was selected primarily for the Cheron. I
primarily flew the Valkyrie 5, but I helped with the shakedown cruise of
the Cheron’s sister ship the Cerberus as a way to prep for the move. But I
am also rated for shuttles, runnabouts, all the way up to Battlecruisers
and Dreadnaughts, Though the dreadnaughts don’t react and turn as easily as
a V5.”
“Excellent. I’ve flown the Cheron a couple of times, and put it through
it’s paces using the onboard simulator. Mission dependant of course, but
we’ve been moving toward using her a little more. She was invaluable on
Vandalos.”
“Well she is definitely a very adaptable craft. Lots of teeth.” Clint said
with a smile.
“Lots of promise, compared well with every other fast interception craft
that I’ve flown.” Trinity said.
“Of course that isn’t all she’s good for, she is fast when it comes to
impulse and great maneuverability, as a search and rescue craft behind
enemy lines, she is top of the line. Same for a stealth coordinated strike.”
“Yeah…could have done with her during the second battle of Wolf 359.”
Trinity said, somewhat regretfully.
Clint paused not knowing what to say next. “I know I will also need to keep
up with bridge time ma’am. I’m ready, willing, and able to do whatever it
is you need me to do.”
Trinity pulled herself together, uncharacteristically unfocussed for a very
brief moment. “Yes, you do, and I appreciate your bringing that up
actually.”
“Is the transition hard ma’am. From a fighter wing to a Starship?”
“To be honest, depends on the pilot, depends on the mindset.” She motioned
to the replicator. “Help yourself if you want anything. Don’t stand on
ceremony. Fighter Jocks together right?” She smiled. It’s one thing I miss
is the Honey Badgers.”
"It's all good. Had plenty of beverages to drink on the flight over. Had to
piss like a racehorse when we docked."
“Sometimes, the pilots that you expect to transition easily, take a while,
others that you’d expect to struggle because they’re pure fighter-jocks
transition the best. I think it’s something to do with tactical brain, I’m
not sure.”
"Any advice?"
“My advice would be get some sim time in, remember that you’re not flying a
shuttle, or a V5, the manouverability is obviously far less, but the power
that you have under your fingertips is astounding. I love flying her
actually.”
"Thank you ma'am. If there is nothing else, I still need to unpack."
“Of course. Dismissed Lieutenant. Unpack and rest. Things have a habit of
going from zero to crazy round here.” She watched as he nodded a simple
reply, and left, leaving Trinity the task of continuing to sort her office.
