Mission: Space was cool before it mattered

Day: 1

Stardate: 2446.04.25

(USS Exeter - Main Engineering - ACEO Lieutenant Ethan Miller-0812)

"Good, she is the reason I was up all night." Brightwood said before
pausing. "Not like that."

Ethan crossed his arms.

" Not like that ? So you read to her all night ?" Ethan asked , playfully
mocking Brightwood.

"As you know, one of my ancestors was a famous philologist and author and
professor at Oxford University in the Early to mid 20th century. Well, I
was inspired by a conversation with commander Merek before we left
Vandalos. I've been working on writing a novel, like not a holo novel, and
actual, old school, pen and paper, and binding novel, for her. And well I
got on a roll last night, and before I knew it, it was time to shower and
get to work." Brightwood explained in detail.

" Pen and paper ? Sounds terribly exhausting. How much have you gotten done
so far ? " Ethan asked.

"The thing is, I am almost done, but I don't know if it is good or not.
I've written 300 pages and I don't know if it is good or not. But I keep
writing."

" I know the feeling…" Ethan said remarking on his own habit of constantly
trying to improve the functionality of things around him, almost to the
point where a normal person would think he was insane. When it came to
tinkering with the tech around him , Ethan always was one to push the
limits further and further or at least he tried to be.

"Anyways, Did anyone ever check out Transporter room 2, I noticed it was
due for a good scrubbing, but it appears it didn't get done yesterday."

Ethan turned back around an keyed in a a few commands on the terminal next
to Brightwood and himself.

" The work started yesterday at 1700, it was discovered that the
transporter pad had an alignment issue with the number three focusing lens.
Should have been an easy fix but they traced the issue and it's because
someone neglected to swap out the previous confinement array. They removed
the array and…." Ethan paused and sighed and rolled his eyes.

" They dropped it on the floor. "

( reply Brightwood)

" They temporarily ran the buffering system through the 5 remaining
confinement arrays to compensate and surprise surprise" Ethan said
sarcastically.

" Those aren't something we carry in reserve, so one is being made in the
machine shop now. Everything else in transporter room two is fine , but
because the array is being built the work order ticket is still open and
pending."

( reply Brightwood)

" I've been meaning to address our maintenance logging procedures with
Commander Merek, the system we currently use isn't as user friendly as it
should be. I mean the old DDIU work order tracking system used on the
galaxy class starships was more efficient than the crap we use now. " Ethan
remarked.

( reply Brightwood)
