Mission: What Light Through Yonder Window Breaks
Day: 2
Stardate: 2446.03.02
(USS Exeter - Nine & Dine - 2O/CEO, Lt. Cmdr. Keira Merek - 1807)
"Well, one of my ancestors was a famous writer of the 20th century. I have
probably read his seminal works more times than I can count." Alistair said
with a smile.
"Surely there were other things." Keira asked as she slid the finished
plate to the side and brought the half full wine glass to the center of her
place setting.
"Apart from his story of swords and fantasy, I was fascinated with the
tales of knights and chivalry, of the great kingdom of Albion and King
Arthur and Camelot. Knights of the round table. Especially the epic quests.
The journey to find the unknown and learning more about yourself."
"King Arthur, I'm only passably familiar with the tails. It's obviously
something I should look into." Keira admitted, finishing off her glass of
wine.
"I think that informs my personal philosophy on why humans explore.
Exploration is more than just explorations. of the known universe but
exploration of who we are as individuals. Just like we perform stress on
our machines to see what their limits are. Exploration is our mortal stress
test."
"Sort of like a 'life is what happens when we're doing something else' sort
of thing?" Keira said. "Because they face the unknown, not only do you see
their character while stressed, also their true nature is revealed."
(Reply Alistair)
"Well, it's been an interesting talk, Mister Brightwood." Keira said.
(Reply Alistair)
"Oh, no. Any time you want to converse, you have my ear as it were. I have
to go get ready." Keira explained.
(Reply Alistair)
"Karaoke night. I can't show up like this.." Keira said with a grin. "Have
a good night, Alistair."
(Reply Alistair, any)

"There will always be those who mean to do us harm. To stop them, we risk
awakening the same evil within ourselves. Our first instinct is to seek
revenge when those we love are taken from us, but that's not who we are." -
Captain James T. Kirk
