Mission: Space was cool before it mattered

Day:2

Stardate: 2446.04.26

(USS Exeter – Personal Quarters – Lieutenant Ire Williams & Lieutenant (JG)
Greta Smith - 0724)

Sitting at the breakfast table, Greta sighed as she looked at the small
black box that Keira had given her the day before. Not knowing how Ire was
going to react to what was inside made her nervous but she knew it was a
conversation they had to have.

Ire looked across the table and then glanced at the small black box which
was in front of her.

“How are you doing? Did you sleep any better?”

"I'm awake. Gotten that far." Greta replied with a smile. "Ire, sit.
There's something I need to tell you about."

He paused and then nodded. “Okay.”

"Yesterday, I had dinner with Keira. She gave me something… something she
had adequate for her and…" Greta stopped, not wanting to say the name that
she knew brought Ire some pain.

~Her and Ravok~

He nodded as he held the pain and pushed it to a safe place where he would
deal with it later.

“What did she give you?” He asked quietly.

Greta slid the box to him. "She said there was a chance we would need these
before she ever would. She wanted us to have them."

He tentatively took the box and opened it. His eyes went wide when he saw
what was inside.

“But they were for them.”

"I told her that.. we hadn't talked about that just yet but she insisted.
Something borrowed I.think was her words."

He swallowed as a lump appeared and nodded.

“Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue.”

"Exactly." Greta replied, watching him carefully.

“I guess we need a few more things.”

"Wait… what exactly are you saying?"

A few answers to the question flashed through his mind.

~By the prophets now or never~

He picked up the box and stood up. He moved around the table and knelt on
one knee holding the box out in front of him. He looked up at her and
smiled.

“Greta Smith. Will you marry me?”

She looked at him as her eyes widened, "Ire…" a smile crept across her face
as she nodded, "Yes… oh heck yes I will."

He leaned forward and kissed her as he gathered her up in his arms. He
leaned his head back to look at her.

“Are you sure you can put up with all my idiosyncrasies? You can’t back out
after.”

She smiled widely and said, "So long as you can promise not to make me trip
over the enterprise model again and you can put up with me waking up in the
middle of the night?"

He smiled back at her. “I will make sure that my models are all cleared
away and put somewhere safe.”

Greta smiled and looked down at the ring on her finger, the same engagement
ring that he had given her all that time ago.

“And don’t worry about waking me up in the middle of the night. I would
rather you did that than keep it to yourself.”

"Ire.., I can’t… you don't know how much this means to me."

“I love you.”

Holding his hand, she sighed, "After everything, I was afraid that you
wouldn't want me anymore. "

He gave her a smile. “I was afraid that you would not want me after what
had happened.”

"That wasn't you. She did that."

“You are stuck with me now and I will never let anything happen to you
again.”

"Well, I think the feeling is mutual, boss man." She smiled. "Although we
may need to tell keira first because I think she will kill me if she isn't
the first to find out."

“Well fly girl we better as she totally will. She’s very good with a blade
as I can contest to.”

Farrowing her forehead, Greta looked at him, "How do you know?"

He paused for a moment before answering “She um had to put me down before
when I was not me. With her knife.”

"Oh…" Greta managed. Taking a breath, she looked at him, "Ire, have you
talked to her since then?"

“Yes we chatted about It a while ago.”

"Then maybe the news should come from you. Not me this time."

He nodded to himself thinking it through. “Okay I can do that”

"I think that would mean a lot to her. Just as the gift she gave us meant a
lot."

“I know it was a gift but I do feel sad that she gave them to us rather
then for her and Ravok.”

Taking his hand, she kissed his cheek gently, "Tell her. Thank her but tell
her."

He nodded and smiled. “Okay I will.” he looked at her. “I promise I will do
it today.”

Greta smiled softly, "It just hit me."

“What?”

"We're gonna get married. " She replied with a grin.

“Yes we are.” he grinned back.
