Mission: Space was cool before it mattered

Day: 2

Stardate: 2446.04.26

(USS Tom Kazansky - Shuttle Bay 1 - SO Lieutenant T'Gema Vaxis- 0506)

"That makes sense that you would know my family name then. My father is
well known as a reunificationist, so much so he mated with vulcan. And here
I am." T'Rix mentioned

" Interesting…" She said, slowly nodding her head. Her feelings about
reunification were different from his, it seemed.

"And While I share my families sentiments on that, I think they are wrong
on the approach." T'Rix said.

" Really ? " She asked.

"Or perhaps it is the rebellion of my youth. I wanted to go to Starfleet
Academy, as was my right as a Federation citizen. My parents denied me
that. I as a child of both worlds needed to remain amongst my people as an
Exemplar of the unity of Vulcans and Romulans. A social experiment. My
desires be damned. But my heart...my heart was always pointed outward,
pointed towards something bigger, greater than myself. I think
reunification can happen, should happen. Especially since we as Romulans
are in need of a new identity, a new, permanent home. But it is not amongst
our people that we need to spread our message to become one again. We must
not focus on the inward reality of our race that caused us to be blind to
atrocity and deceit for centuries. We must take our place amongst the
galactic fold as true equals. Honestly, the only step forward for the
Romulan Republic is joining the Federation. But as I don't trust our
politicians to have that foresight, and because my dream was always to wear
this uniform, this badge, take this oath....well...I may be the black sheep
of the Sayreal family for now, but I am the only one with true vision."

T'Gema smiled slightly.

" I'm glad you understand the topic has its ccomplexities. " She looked at
the vessel next to them in the bay

" I myself am only half Romulan as well. My other half is Terran. For what
it matters, I'm sorry you were denied your desires to be a symbol of unity.
"

( reply T'Rix)

" However, I believe We Romulans have not lost our identity, we are still
those who marched beneath the raptors wings. If the empire would have been
led with competence and effective directives, we as a people wouldn't have
been left in the state that we are in. Seeking equality ? " T'Gema shook
her head.

" No, we nearly brought the Alpha quadrant to heel. That potential and
level of ambition doesn't go away. Sure it will get diluted, but the only
way reunification will truly happen is if the Romulan people allow the
Romulan way to truly die. The founder of the Romulan way, S'task argued
that the galaxy was an inherently hostile place, and the only way to meet
it was from a position of strength; Surak argued just as fervently in favor
of peace. This is the sole difference between Vulcans and Romulans. Not the
suppression or embracing of our emotions, not a reliance on logic. Both
sides will have to surrender who they are to the point where they are no
longer who they were. Will Vulcans be so willing? Will we ? " T'Gema
concluded.

( reply T'Rix)

" That's why I'm a scientist, politics and philosophical views don't matter
in the never ending quest of absolute truth. " She laughed slightly.

" So…You're a marine ? Must be a hard life."
