Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.04.26

(USS Pete Mitchell - Officer's Mess - FO, Lt. SG Billy Alexander- 0600)

What a crazy ride it had been for Billy. He had cycled off of the Exeter
after their return from the Andromeda galaxy. Frankly, he wasn't sure if he
was best suited for shipboard life. Not to mention there was that whole
nasty business of the Empress. It scarred him, it scarred lots of people.
He had found himself working back on Earth at Starfleet HQ, a cushy little
desk job, working as an admiral's aide. He was working for the office of
logistics and personnel, primarily with supply corp duties. He was
apparently good at his job, of course he was always good with the paperwork
side of things. That being good at his job got him back from behind the
desk and onto the Pete Mitchell as her first officer.

Normally it would have freaked Billy out, but the Pete Mitchell was his cup
of tea. She was a supply ship, her primary mission was logistics, support,
delivery, and aid missions. Billy didn't need a tactical mind, he didn't
need to be brilliant soldier, he just needed to be good at paperwork,
logistics, and analysis. Of those three, he was a savant.

The Pete Mitchell and her sister ship, the Tom Kazansky, were both named
after famous naval aviators of Earth's 20th and 21st century. The two
numbered among the last 10 Reliant class ships in active duty. The Reliant
class was a light cruiser commissioned in 2420, one of the last new ships
built before the Andorians left the Federation. She was a light cruiser, a
successor to the Miranda. While she was good in scrap, after the Andorians
pulled out, the mission of the Reliant became more humanitarian in nature.
Sure she still had a decent armament, but the Reliant class had been
outclassed in fighting power by the new ships that had been coming off the
line since Mars and Utopia Planitia got back into full swing. In fact many
of the older ships were better suited for fights, which is why the old
Nova's were more used on patrol than the larger Reliant. Only the five
original Reliant classes, one of which was the USS Pioneer which was
destroyed by the first fighter wing of Mars two years prior, had an armanet
that outclassed the older ships. Billy blamed the stubborn Andorians for
that. Still the Reliant had her charm. The Pete Mitchell had her charm.
Besides, Billy was glad that the Reliant classes had a new life and would
see long extended service as a supply ship. This was especially true, given
the completion of the new Shenzhou class, of which 6 vessels had already
been pressed into service. The Shenzhou class was the succesor to the
Reliant in some ways, but while the Reliant was a light cruiser, the
Shenzhou had the designation light battlecruiser, and was given a lot more
teeth.

The Pete Mitchell was captained by a Captain Sii'mbaa, an old crusty
Caitian who was a few years from retirement, but not quite ready to let go.
Still, Billy liked his captain, and was learning a lot. He liked the
smoother placed of the Pete Mitchell, he liked being able to bring
humanitarian supplies, the low stakes missions, and he like meeting all the
new people that came through the ship. He had been her first officer for a
month now, and it suited him. Especially since, unless there was an
emergency, would not be assigned combat missions. His job was primarily
paper work and he was in heaven.

Sipping his coffee he approached an officer wearing a green uniform, the
two diamond pips indicating that he was a Lieutenant Major, the Starfleet
equivalent of the Old US Marine Captain Rank. Billy hadn't really spent
much time visiting with his passengers, though they seemed to be swimming
in Romulans. Instead he spent most of time with inventory of supplies,
making sure that the Exeter, his old ship, would get the supplies they
need. That and a few extra bottles of bourbon for his cousin Trip for his
birthday. There ETA would be at least another three hours.

"Good morning Major." Billy said as he approached the gentleman. "Not sure
if we had the chance to meet. Lieutenant Billy Alexander, I'm the First
Officer of the Pete Mitchell."

"I understand you will be the Executive Officer of the Marine Detachment
being formed on the Exeter?"
