(Black SightFacility –Inmate 1982’s Cell– Inmate 1982– 0201)
There was a softpop as the cell’s force field collapsed. Inmate 1982 paused for a moment waitingto see if anyone had noticed. She slid from her bed and quietly padded out ofthe cell and across the small room. She had been put into solitary confinement anddue to the facilities mostly automated system there was not a physical guardwatching her. The door slid open as she glanced cautiously into the corridorand smiled to herself as she found that it was empty. Since she had beenincarcerated in this facility at the end of the federation civil war and shehad been waiting for some one to give her access to her old files. That hadbeen Lieutenant Commander McGuinness andhis ego had overridden his common sense. He had been a line of intelligentagents over the years which have seen her as some old lady with intricateR&D knowledge not a cunning intelligence agent. To be fair to McGuinnessshe had been sent here as a scientist rather than an enemy agent and she hadnot tried to dissuade any of them of that opinion since her arrival.
The corridor led her to a turbolift which activated as soon as she enteredand the doors closed. She knew that she did not have too much time before the virusprogram that she had slipped into the facility’s main frame would delete itselferadicating it from the system as if it was never there. The turbolift slowedand stopped as she exited into another corridor which was the last stretchuntil freedom. A slight smile crossed her face as she reached the room at the farend of the corridor as freedom was with in her grasp. She slapped down on her eagernessknowing that she needed to keep focused and not get too excited before she hadescaped.
The door opened to the facilities probe launch bay. The Facility wouldlaunch stealthed probes to scan the area around it to make sure that they werealone. She stepped over to one of the black sleek looking probes as it materializedon the launch system and opened its top. Its inside had been removed and a lifesupport system had been added, there was a beeping sound as the life supportsystems activated. She hauled herself into the probe and attached herself tothe life support systems as probe began to move into the launch system. She closedthe top and fitted the mask in place as the probe was launched. She felt the G-force’spile on as the probe went into warp.
The virus began its last set of commands before it erased itself fromthe system. The duty staff in the command centre were rudely awoken when the facility’scomputer core lobotomised itself in front of them. Before they could doanything the facility’s main console began to flash warning icons all over it.The power core began to overloaded as power failure began all over the facility. Then suddenly the evacuation alarm began to scream as the computer died completely.People ran for the escape pods but there was not enough time to get everyone tosafety as the facility was erased from existence in a blinding flash of light.
Inmate 1982 took slow deep breaths as the sedatives began to take hold. Shedid feel bad for the people who had not escaped the facility, but she needed toescape without anyone knowing that she was alive. As she fell into unconsciousnessthe probe hit its maximum speed at warp.
