She held out her hand so he could slip the ring on her finger, her eyes sparkling with joy through the tears. 

Smiling up at Katie, Paul felt his own tears.

“The next question is when”

“Then there’s our families, my sister would never forgive me not inviting her or my mother. I just wish dad was still with us”

Sitting silent for a few seconds Paul thought about the man who had raised him. 

“I’d better speak to the captain.”
