EXETERRPG: REPOST: (1 2051) SPC Nurse CPO Ewan McDonald

Mission: Auld Lang Syne

Day:01

Stardate: 2445.12.28

 

(Risa – Suraya Bay Resort – Beach – Nurse – CPO – EwanMcDonald - 2051)

 

The sun was slowly setting as the long shadows werecreeping across the sea.  Ewan had enjoyed his first day on Risa and ithad been nice to get away from work and responsibilities for a short while atleast.  He spotted the beginning of a fire on the beach between him andthe resort. It was far enough away not to disturb the people at the resort butclose enough for people to see it if they wanted to go over. As he got closer,he saw the barmaid that he had spoken earlier, and she was with a small groupof people. He began to walk further up the beach so that he would not disturbthem, but she called out to him as he passed.

 

“Hay Trumpet man we are about to have a play come andjoin us.”

 

He paused for a moment with indecision but turned andheaded towards them. As he got closer, she introduced the other members of thegroup. Her name was Jiasre and her friends were Lanhi, Deraan and Unaad.

 

“He maybe a brass player but don’t hold that againsthim.”

 

He grinned back.

 

“Thank you very much.”

 

He looked at the burning bonfire and the sunset.

 

“This is nice.”

 

She smiled at him.

 

“Yes, we do this often. It’s a nice way to relaxafter a long day. You ready.”

 

She pulled out a what looked like a violin from a bagshe had by her feet and sat down on the sand near the fire. The other threepulled at a mixture of string instruments and sat down beside her. Ewan smiledand sat down as well. He opened his case and pulled out his pocket trumpetwhich was a compact version of a proper sized trumpet which made it easier fortraveling. He blow down the trumpet and pressed the valves a couple of times tomake sure that they were not sticking or blocking it.

 

“Okay?”

 

He nodded.

 

“Okay so we will do an easy one for Ewan to getsettled okay….good. Let’s play            .”

 

She looked over at him a smiled.

 

“It’s a Risan classic from my part of the world. It’sa folk song, so we won’t be going to fast and its lots of verses, so listen toand then join in when you are happy.”

 

Ewan nodded. He watched her nod to a Unaad with aguitar.

 

“Okay. When you are ready.”

 

Unaad strummed his guitar and began as the othersjoined. Ewan sat there for a moment listening to the music with the softbraking of the waves. With the setting sun and the crackle of the fire.

There was a soft nudge and he looked back at Jiasrewho was playing. She grinned at his and indicated his trumpet. He nodded broughthe trumpet to his lips and began to play quietly with the others. He sawmovement out the corner of his eye as he saw people begin to move towards themacross the beach.
