(USS Exeter – Sickbay - CMO Office - Medical Officer, Ensign JG Heinrich Kruse, M.D. - 1616)

“You need to watch your blood pressure, seems a little high. You're cleared for duty.”

~A little high? I check it every day when I wake up in the morning and it’s perfectly fine!~ Heinrich fumed to himself, though he knew full well his blood pressure did tend to be a little high and he probably should watch what he eats.

"You see, being a Doctor is about trust, I need to trust that you're going to tell me the truth, that you're going to do the right thing; your vitals are clear I'm going to trust that there isn't anything you need to tell me.” 

Heinrich thought for a moment, “Other than a bum knee I’m in perfect shape.”

"Talking about trust, I need you to look after three patients for me. As you know this is a family ship borderline unethical but the Federation is what it is. As a doctor I really can't be treating my own family, to that end, I need you to take on the care of the CO and FO. I would also like you to directly care for Ensign Ronnie Winters. As the CMO I still have overriding decisions and would like to be updated but we need to remain ethical. Up to date notes add in their files pay special attention to the COs file he's in a trial and I need weekly updates for Starfleet Medical. Clear?” 

Heinrich was flabbergasted. He was only on the ship for three days and already he’s being asked to take care of the Captain and First Officer. But Dr. Vespers’ reasoning made perfect sense. Doctors needed to have a certain distance from their patients, familiarity might crowd their judgment. Heinrich took the PADD as he couldn’t help but beam. “Understood, sir. I’ll be sure to make prompt and accurate updates. Am I free to go?”
