Stardate: 2445.12.03
(USS Exeter – Sickbay - CSO Lt Jg Erin Cortez & Ensign JG Heinrich Kruse,
M.D – 0346)
Light. Bright light was the thing she noticed first. Opening her eyes
slowly, Erin tried to move her head but found it ridiculously stubborn.
Taking in a breath, she tried to lift her hand.to feel her head and
couldn't. Panic begin to set in as she breathed quicker. Something was
holding her down.
“Lieutenant Cortez,” Heinrich said with a note of caution in his voice,
“can you hear me? Give me a nod.”
Erin looked at the source of the voice, eyes flittering, looking around.
Nodding slowly, she found the source of the voice and blinked to focus.
“Oh good, good.” Heinrich took out his medical tricorder and started
scanning Erin up and down her body. “Allow me to introduce myself. I’m Dr.
Heinrich Kruze, the new medical officer on board the Exeter. You are in
Sickbay. You got electrocuted pretty bad, but I’m anticipating a full
recovery.”
Opening her mouth to speak, a croak came out followed closely by a cough.
Her eyes filled with fear as she found she croaked, "W… where?"
The look on Erin’s eyes startled Heinrich. “Don’t try and push yourself too
hard, your body is still healing itself. You are in Sickbay, on board the
Exeter. You’re safe.”
"Safe….?" She coughed again, sinking back into the bed and sighing heavily.
The reality that she wasn’t on the Holodeck began to sink in. Trembling a
little, Erin looked at him for confirmation.
“Yes, safe. A group of us entered the holodeck as the program was shutting
down, secured the location, and I had you brought here. You are absolutely
safe. But you need to rest up.”
Nodding, Erin closed her eyes for a moment. "Others… safe?" She asked,
Coughing again.
Heinrich paused, and stammered a bit before he could say, “Some are, some
didn’t make it. I’m a doctor who deals with the living. Someone else will
come and debrief you with the full details. The important thing now is
you’re safe, you need some rest, and you can expect a full recovery.”
Erin nodded as a tear ran down her face. Closing her eyes, she hoped she
could sleep but knew that she wouldn't. Not yet.
