(USS Exeter – Ready Room– Ensign Janice Hammerfield– 0904)

 "Well, everyone falls somewhere on a scale of 1 to 10. Though no one really is past a five, I don't think."

She nodded, “Thats to be expected I guess. I hope they are able to move past it,”

"Listen Janice, you've been through the ringer. You were attacked by Thorn and then kidnapped. It's ok to be vulnerable."

"Vulnerable isn’t really what I would go for – but I understand the sentiment sir,”

Trip then passed her a box.

"You were supposed to get this yesterday, but well circumstances and all that."

Janice took the box and opened it up showing a gold pip inside it.

"Congratulations Ensign Senior Grade Hammerfield."

She looked at it for a moment as it glinted in the light of the room. She ran her hand over the top of the box closed it back over slowly pushing it back over to him. She looked at the box again. How could she accept it after not being able to help anyone in the last day? She had tried her best but her failure to help anyone made her feel unworthy of any reward right now. The normal excitement that would usually exude from a promotion was replaced with a feeling of extreme guilt.

“I can’t accept this. It doesn’t feel right.”
