Mission: Murder on the Exeter Express

Day: 3

Stardate: 2445.12.o3

(USS Exeter – Holodeck 3 – Medical Officer, Ensign JG Heinrich Kruse, M.D. – 0112)

Heinrich materialized. The program began to fade. Maxine turned to ash. A different side of Heinrich kicked in, one that did not make any evaluative judgments. One that only saw the facts. He put his phaser away and took out his medical tricorder. As he was moving about checking various bodies he heard Lana cry out “HEY! OVER HERE!” As he went to approach her he heard Commander Bracken call to him, "MEDIC! I HAVE A PULSE!” He turned and made a beeline to Commander Bracken and Lieutenant Cortez. He didn’t even hear Lana complain.

As he knelt down Commander Bracken gave him instructions. "Weak pulse, intubate and get her breathing. You know what to do. Trauma 101. Stabilise her. When we get site-to-site back you’re straight to sickbay. By the time that you get there the trauma team will be ready, you have the patient Doctor.”

“Understood.” Heinrich said. He took out his medkit and placed it on the floor. He retrieved an emergency respirator and assembled the tube while Commander Bracken was talking to Merek. By the time he had applied the tube and got the ventilator running on the floor Commander Bracken asked, "Doctor. Are you ready?”

“Ready for sickbay, commander.” He said.

“Kiera, Transport now.”

In a flash Heinrich and Erin were in sickbay, with Erin safely on the bed, the respirator gently placed on an end table. Before he could react Ewan McDonald dashed in. “Dr Kruze what do you need?”

~What do I need?~ Heinrich thought to himself ~I barely know what’s going on.~ The important thing was getting the patient stable, but he still didn’t know what had happened to Erin or what was wrong. He had Erin breathing, that bought him some time.

“Your patient, Doctor.”Dr. Dural said. Heinrich nodded.

“Alright, we’ve got the patient stabilized, now we need to see what’s going on. I’m not confident in the readings I’m getting from my tricorder. I want a Cardio scan and some coffee. It’s going to be a long night.” Heinrich took a deep breath. His adrenaline was still pumping, and the scene had not yet fully set in.
