(USS Exeter – Holodeck 3 - MedIntern aEns Lana Wakeman – 0113)
Lana had watched in trepidation as Ire stepped up to Maxine, eventually
sliding the knife that would end her life between her ribs, she could tell
that death was inevitable for Maxine, finding herself laughing nervously at
the death in front of her. Her emotions were all over the place, the
admission of her deepest truth, although nothing compared to the deaths in
front of her, and the horrific injury, the trauma that poor Stan was now
going through, had nonetheless made her think about something that she had
long thought forgotten, and it had not sat well in her mind.
She saw what was obviously an away team beam in and then watched the team
split and check the bodies and other survivors.
Bracken moved around quickly, it was interesting to watch her work the
room. The layman might be forgiven to think that she was ‘just paying lip
service’ to the checks that she was making, but Lana, having the training
that she’d had back at the Academy, saw far more.
Her eyes never stopped moving, although Bracken’s fingers only checked the
pulse for an extremely short time, Lana knew that with that briefest touch,
she was carrying with her years of experience that belied her tender years.
~What a waste of talent~ Lana thought as Ailynn continued to check.
“HEY! OVER HERE” Lana called out, she felt her body begin to shake as the
nerves took hold, the thought of what could have happened to her, to
everyone filling her. The situation around her slowly began to return to
some semblance of normal, not that that would be possible for a while.
“MEDIC! I HAVE A PULSE!”
Lana watched as the new Doctor who’s name she didn’t know moved toward
Ailynn.
“NEVER MIND HER, WHAT ABOUT US?”
She saw the annoyance flash across Ailynn’s face, and Lana, remembering her
training, remembered, that if she was well enough to shout then she would
be fine. She began to feel a little guilty for calling out and mouthed an
apology toward Bracken, who had already moved off to bring the scene back
into everyone’s control.
Eventually, the doors opened, and after a while, Lana managed to stand
properly, and left the room, she would, perhaps for the first time in her
life, welcome the counselling that would surely come.
