Mission: Murder on the Exeter Express
Day: 3
Stardate: 2445.12.03
(The Roadhouse - CSO Lt Jg Erin Cortez - 0103)
Leaning on the bar, Jo looked at Erin in her eyes and said, “Something is
happening you know. Back there.”
“Back….” she tilted her head a touch, “You mean there is still a chance i
could go back.”
Jo laughed heartily, “hunny that was always an option. The question is and,
in a way it’s why you are here…. Do you want to go back?” Jo stood back and
looked at her, “Look, best way i can explain it. It seems that you have a
choice. Out there, you are running. I mean you welcomed this turn of
events. You actively didn’t try to stop that mad bitch from killing you.
Rather than fight, you let it happen. Some part of you thinks that you
deserve this.”
Erin closed her eyes, “I could have saved him, both of them…..” her voice
trailed off as she fought down the visions of Nix and Clarke lying dead.
“It was their time. Nothing you could have done to save them hunny and
somewhere in that mess of a mind of yours, you know that. That’s not the
real issue here is it?”
Opening her eyes, Erin looked at the woman behind the bar and shook her
head, “How can i go back there, knowing that because of a choice i made, a
rash and foolish choice, she died. He is never going to be able to forgive
me. I killed his cousin.”
“Honestly, what is it with you, chick?” Jo replied taking Erin’s hands in
her own. “You feel guilt to easily. Sure, if you had not had shouted and
done what you did there is a chance she may still be there. But, it’s like
any choice you make in your life. You deal with the consequences. So tell
me. Why are you here right now? What is it that is keeping you from making
the choice you know you need to?”
“I….. “ Erin sighed heavily, “.... can’t face it. Not again. I’ve been down
that road too many times…”
“And yet you are still here. Well, not there exactly but you know what i
mean. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for. Listen to me. You
don’t have a lot of time to make your choice. The doors will open soon,
both of them. So, there’s someone that might be able to help you.”
Erin looked at her, eyebrows raised. “What….”
Then she heard the voice, the one that had saved her once.
“Yhhau, elhs'hswiehv daehlen.”
