Mission: Murder on the Exeter Express
Day: 3
Stardate: 2445.12.03
(USS Exeter – Deck 9, In front of Holodeck 3– Medical Officer, Ensign JG Heinrich Kruse, M.D. – 0031)
Commander Bracken turned to Heinrich, and spoke far more pleasantly than he expected her to in such a time and situation. “Good evening...morning...whatever time of the blasted day it is. Doctor…. Don’t tell me...I’ll have your name in a second….Doctor Kruze isn’t it? Mum spoke very highly of you, said you’d be an asset to the Exeter.” Heinrich tried to hold back, but he couldn’t help but smile. Perhaps, even blush a bit. It doesn’t take a medical doctor to put two and two together, and he assumed the Commander must have meant the Fleet Surgeon General.
“Well thank you ma’am, that’s very kind.”
“Anyway, listen to me babbling, been a long day. Ongoing hostage situation, at least six hostages, potential casualties. I can help you out if need be, but I don’t want to undermine you, you have the medical lead on this for the moment. Nurse Drake will be around to assist too.” Hostage. Potential casualties. Medical lead. Heinrich had only been a Starfleet officer for three days and was already being thrown straight in the thick of it. He hated the graveyard shift. It was all too overwhelming. He had no idea what to say.
“Understood.” Was all that came out. He stood back, his mind racing. He pieced together the various simulations and role plays he had done while at the Academy. He tried to recall the different case studies they had gone over. There’s a lot that can be done in a Holodeck. While Heinrich wanted to walk into the situation knowing what to do, the fact was he could not know until he saw the patients, or bodies.
"Alright, here is what we're going to do. Merek, you get the beam ready. Ravok, Arbor, and the doctor, umm....New guy what's your name?” Heinrich snapped out of his trance.
“Dr. Heinrich Kruze, sir.”
"Ok so Arbor, Ravok and Dr. Kruze are going to go in, Commander Bracken, you and Lt. Smith Guard the door. Nurse Drake, will stay on standby just in case. That alright with you Commander?"
All Heinrich could do was nod. This was getting to be very real. And he felt wholly unprepared.
