Mission: Murder on the Exeter Express

Day: 3

Stardate: 2445.12.03

(USS Exeter - Holodeck 3 - CSO Lt JG Erin Cortez - 0043)

Maxine began laughing maliciously. "Stupid, stupid girl. You still think
you are playing a game you can win. In my universe, before I escaped it, I
was responsible for the death of more than half the beta quadrant, do you
think I am scared of your little rants." Maxine stood up and smiled. "I may
be trapped here on the Exeter, and yes any moment now your command team
will probably stop you. I hadn't counted on a captain as deliciously
determined as your Trip or a first officer as beautiful and intelligent as
Bracken. Hell even those two Romulans are more trouble than I accounted
for. I am a trapped animal. Which means I am more dangerous now than ever
before. And you choose to test me, no child. It is I who will test you. I
will make them all suffer, and you will watch. You don't get to choose
anymore. I will wait until each and everyone of them is dead, and when they
are. I will leave you alive to live with the pain."

Erin knew then that she had made a mistake. That, because of her hubris and
her need to scream at this woman responsible for the deaths of a number of
crew mates and of Nix, a man who had a place in her heart, something was
about happen. Some she would carry with her for a long time.

"And because of your insolence I will kill one of your colleagues. Will it
be Ire? No he is already broken. Will it be Lana, no Stan, or Sleeford, no,
I still have hope for them. Oh I know the cousin of your good friend Ravok."

Erin turned, with her eyes wide and glanced at Nesha and then, as her
breathing quickened, turned back to "Maxine",

"No, please…. I'm sorry."

(Reply Nesha iyw)

"Goodbye Nesha, take solace in knowing you aren't the first Romulan I
killed."

(reply Nesha iyw)

In that moment electricity surged through Nesha's field in the same way it
had Clarke. In seconds she was dead.

As the electricity flowed and struck her friend, someone she had considered
a sister, Erin became aware of two things. One, that she was shaking and
crying, sobbing infact. The second was a noise.

A noise she couldn't place at first but then she realised what it was. She
was screaming.

As the woman spoke again, Erin could hear only one thing. Something akin to
white noise. She knew that she should respond, she should offer hope to the
others, support. But she couldn't. To her, she had just caused the death of
someone close to her. And close to her brother. Her thoughts turned to
Ravok.

In her minds eye, she could see him and all she could do was mutter, "I'm
sorry." Over and over again
