(USS Exeter – Science Labs – CSO Lt JG Erin Cortez – 2021)



"I can’t yet,” Keira admitted. “I can’t because I quite like my job here as
Second Officer and Chief Engineer, if I divulge too much, now it will cost
me my job, maybe some of these pips on my collar. If I don’t want to be
Chief Engineer of a garbage scow I have to keep a lid on it for now.”



Erin sighed, she knew her friend was right and that she was being
unreasonable but the day had been way too long and full of emotions.



"Ok…" she replied softly.



“…but you’re cleared now, not just that you and I know, but in the eyes of
the investigation. It’s a step in a good way, right?”



Erin nodded,  tiredness was beginning to set in and she felt like she had
almost no fight left in her.



“Thank you. Sleeford should have lab 7 up and running by now, let’s go give
him a hand.” Keira said.



"After you…" she spoke and then paused.

"I'm tired. I feel like I have nothing left in me but I am here to help in
whatever way I can. "
