(Earth - Home of Trip and Ashlyn Williams - R&SE Ashlyn Williams - 1950)

As Ashlyn bustled around the kitchen, she became aware of the young Deltan
Officer come in, clearly wanting to chat. Clearing her prep area and making
it safe she stepped away with a gently maternal smile.

"Hello, Mrs. Will... um, Ashlyn. I don't mean to intrude, but I have
something for you," said Jori.

“Jori,” Ashlyn spoke gently. “You really didn’t need to, this evening was
just for friendship, and commeraderrie, but Im honoured that you did.” She
said graciously.

Jori reached into her bag, bringing out a head band similar to the one had.

"It's a misheka, made from Deltan silk. It translates to motherhood circle.
I got you a blue one since you're having a boy."

Jori spread it across her fingers.

"The four symbols represent the basic stages of being a mother. The current
one goes over the forehead.

"The first is when you're pregnant. This one to the right is after the baby
is born. The one in the back is when they marry. This one to the left is
when they have a child of their own.

"You have one for each child. Traditionally, they're worn at special
gatherings and events, like family dinners, birthdays, and anniversaries.'

Jori smiled to her, Ash felt her heart swell with adoration once more. She
was an emotional creature at the best of times, but at this point in her
pregnancy her hormones were of the charts, and she felt everything tenfold.
“Jori…sweetie this is beautiful.”

Ashe felt her eyes fill at the sentiment and the meaning of the gift.
Holding it across her palms she beheld the exquisite workmanship.

Looking to Jori, she pulled herself together, and smiled, glowing in her
maternal aspect. “It’s gorgeous sweetie.” Reading the sigils as Jori had
explained them, she aligned them to her brow. “That right? Can you help
honey?”

As Jori helped tie the headband, she sat backstraight proud, the Bajoran
blood of Ashalan ran in her veins, proud and verbose. The proudest, most
headstrong Bracken blood provided her with both intellect and devotion. Her
marriage to her Williams man had further tempered this.

All of this, distilled into the girl that Ashlyn was, and her as yet
unborn.

Standing up once more and straightening her back, she smiled warmly,
lifting her poise, seemingly growing in stature with the honorific band
that Jori had bestowed on her.

“Jori, it’s beautiful.” she caught a reflection. “Thank you. Will I do, she
lifted a chin playfully, her full matriarchal status however being caught
in the fading evening light.
