"Sir, I understand that I shouldn't have hit Josh with the pitch, but he
really did have it coming." Jori paused. "I also apologize if I
disappointed you."

"Jori, I don't want to ruin what will hopefully be a fun evening, so I
won't pontificate. But the reality is, just because someone has it
coming doesn't excuse our actions. There are a lot of people who are jerks,
but that doesn't mean I can go around punching everyone of them in the
face."

(reply Jori)

"But this is a good lesson to grow and learn from and I know you will. You
are still young, hell we all are, and we all have a lot of growing up to
do. So lets just move past this and tackle the next challenge."

(reply Jori)

Trip paused, "My second year at the academy, I used to sneak out at night
and participate in a semi pro mixed martial arts league. I was frustrated
with being considered a legacy kid and I used it to get out a lot of
frustrations. I was aggressive, it was the only time I felt I could cut
loose. So I channeled that into a person known for being a dick to the fans
and brutal in the ring. I showed my opponents no mercy. Every boo was worth
it, because in there I wasn't some legacy brat, I was my own person. One
night, I beat this guy so bad, that even after the referee called for the
bell, I gave a few extra shots for good measure, to show everyone just how
dominant I was. His buddies jumped me in the alley outside the club. They
ganged up on me, overwhelmed me, stabbed me repeatedly, which I guess is a
recurring theme in my life. They left me for dead because I had
disrespected their buddy. Did I have it coming, in their eyes sure. But
returning dickery and aggression with violence, only creates more violence.
I had to almost die to learn that lesson. Just because someone deserves it,
doesn't justify the return. I learned that the hard way. Cadet Tucker, who
is undergoing a disciplinary hearing learned that the hard way, the cadets
who got expelled for striking officers today, learned that the hard way. I
don't want you to have to learn it the hard way. I want to see you succeed
and strive. I promise I will do a better job on your professional
development. You have great potential Jori and I want to help you realize
that potential."
