Ash looked out of the kitchen window, watching the senior officers all
drink gently, mingle, laugh and generally show that a good time was being
had by all. She glowed in ecstatic happiness as all her plans came slowly
together, she couldn’t remember if it had been hers or Trips idea to
entertain, but doing this sort of thing was truly one of her favorite
things. Once more the door went, and she tore her attention away from the
ensemble on the back decking to go and see who had arrived now.

“ERIN!” Ash held her arms wide open and pulled the young science officer
into a close hug, which given the stage of her pregnancy, was a significant
feat. “Come in come in,” She saw the bottle that Erin was showing her.

Stepping into the Ranch, Erin smiled at Ash and held out the bottle. “It’s
traditional Mezcal. My father knows a guy who still makes it the
traditional way. Spirit made from the Agave Cactus. It’s… potent and quite
different.” she replied with a wink.

“I might have to pass for the moment, sounds a little extreme for one like
me at the moment.” She motioned to her bump.

Taking a breath, Erin let out a small laugh, “Not one for you i suspect.”
Looking around at the people milling about, Erin turned back to Ash, “Tell
me i’m not the last one here?”

“The arrival time was spaced out, you’re still early honey,” She hooked her
hand into Erin’s elbow. “There’s a good number here, but late is never bad;
you get to make the grand entrance.”

“Erin Cortez,” Ash pouted demurely, “I do not ever insinuate anything.” She
giggled. “Hope you brought your appetite.” Ash picked up her own drink, a
fruit juice that she had recently developed a taste for, not being overly
sweet.
