(USS Exeter -Officer's Mess– SOPS/3O Lieutenant Commander Tyrek Na'Rel-2039)

"Well if my mother had her way I'd be teaching Philosophy or Literature at
Oxford." Lieutenant Brightwood stated.

" I'm sure the Exeter Crew is thankful that your mother didn't have her
way." Tyrek said, raising his mug and tilting it at Brightwood before
taking yet another drink.

"She wanted me to be the J.R.R. Tolkein or C.S. Lewis of the 25th century.
But I always loved machines, they understood me. There is more of Eddison
to me than Dickens, more of Tesla than Descartes."

~ Names I have never heard. This Lieutenant seems friendly. Perhaps he
needs to just off load. ~ Tyrek Thought and smiled.

" I can understand the appeal of engineering over philosophy. "

"Have you ever disappointed your parents?" Brightwood asked.

Tyrek was shocked and at first didn't know how to respond to such an
extreme inquiry and intrusion of his privacy. Such questions would never be
asked where he was from. Tyrek looked at the friendly face of the young
Lieutenant.

" Once…" He responded reluctantly.

( reply Brightwood)

Tyrek took a breath and decided to break down a barrier. It was rather hard
for him. He could simply lie and move on. His privacy would be ensured, but
he wasn't here to keep old habits going, especially the bad ones.

" My mother was a teacher. She wanted me to follow the same path as her. "
Tyrek paused and tapped his fingers slightly on the table. He wasn't use to
being asked such questions so soon.

( reply Brightwood)
