Mission: The flames of purity

Day: 18

Stardate: 2445:09:18

(USS Exeter – Sickbay - FO, Lt. SG Ailynn Bracken and ACFO, Ensign SG
Ronnie Winters - 00:02)

The whiteness dimmed, and the fairly familiar view of sickbay’s ceiling
came into sharp focus, albeit slowly. The pain that she should have been
feeling she wasn’t, and she didn’t feel the effects of any of the stronger
painkillers, meaning that she’d been here a couple of days.

 “Dad...dy?”

"No. Definitely not your dad."

“Ronnie?” Am...so...confused.

"You've been under for like a day and half. You had us all worried. How are
you feeling?"

“I’m...in myself...i’m okay...water.” She motioned at a glass on the nearby
shelf.

Ronnie went over and brought her a glass of water. "Here you go. Drink it
slowly."

She twisted her head and sipped at the glass, before resting her head back
once more, nodding. “Thank you.” She coughed gently. “Not going to lie, I
wasn’t sure I was going to wake up again.”

"I don't know what I'd do if you didn't make it."

Ailynn lifted her arm, and held Ronnie’s hand in her own. “You okay Champ?”

"No. But its all mental stress. But you, you look like hell."

“I’m tougher than I look. I had help.”

"Really who?"

Ailynn laughed, confusion on her mind. “That’s a story for another time.
I’m still processing it.” A wave of sadness ran over her, and a tear
formed.

“Ryelle...He...sacrificed himself to save me.”

"What happened?"

“We were in a makeshift prison. Suddenly, the room started filling with
gas. I...forget...what...Fatal to me, I had...medical bag, was able to give
Ryelle a cocktail of things to keep him alive. Dextrocardia meant I
couldn’t have it. He...He…” Ailynn’s tired mind supplied the missing
details, the tears coursing down her cheeks.

"It's ok. Tell me later. Don't stress yourself. You can tell me later."

“No...I need to...He prayed to the prophets to swap places Ron. I met one
of the prophets, and saw the emissary himself.” She looked at Ronnie. “I
promise I’m not crazy.”

"Listen," Ronnie daid with a whisper, "I'm a time travel from an alternate
future timeline. I'd be a hypocrite if I called you crazy."

Ailynn coughed once more. "Good point"

"Seriously though, I'm glad you woke up. Mom was here almost the whole day.
Dad was reading to you." She said continuing the whisper.

"Thats sweet." She smiled. "Ronnie...can I have a hug?"

"Of course." Ronnie said giving her a hug.

Ailynn felt herself rest as Ronnie released her, and she smiled gently. Her
cousins presence lifting her even briefly.

"Look. I don't want to shorten this, but you better tell them I've just
woken up or we'll both be in big trouble."

"I was just about to say that." Ronnie said. She then gave her cousin a
kiss on the forehead and then left to tell the on call physician that
Ailynn had woken up.
