“Can anyone disrupt the hologram with equipment we have on hand? I want to
make sure that the rifle is a hologram as well,” Merek asked.
Erin glanced over the ridge once more and ducked back down. "My only
concern is that the hologram is tied into the power source that we are here
to disrupt. Personally, the best way may be to take out the holoemiters.
A hologram that stable and steady has to have external emitters on the
outside of the building. Maybe one of us could get down there, pull some
wires figuratively speaking and get him off line.
That would be sure to attract the attention of one of the guys inside."
(Reply any)
"Zot, we may need you to take down the generator quickly and safely. Whilst
I would like to just blow the thing sky high, we have no way of telling
what it will do if we do that."
(Reply Zot, any)
Erin took a breath,
"Then, I'll go. I can get the emitter offline. You stay with Lieutenant
Merek and follow her orders."
“Your theory is sound. Prepare your plan. We’ll move when you are ready.”
Erin nodded to Merek and began to get a tricorder and a couple of tools to
take with her.
~Ailynn, hold tight.~ she thought to herself as she placed the tools on her
belt.
“Once the plan is executed, I will move forward while the remaining two of
you cover me from here. Once I’ve established cover for myself and started
distracting the enemy with my own fire from cover, you three will advance
to cover, and return fire as you are comfortable and able. Everyone ready?”
"Ready as I will ever be. I never thought that survival and evasion
training would come in useful this soon."
(Reply any)
Moving slowly and quietly, Erin made her way along the ridge and around to
the other side of the structure. As she climbed down the slight incline,
she cursed under her breath as small rocks tumbled infront of her.
Finally at the bottom, she made her way along the exterior of the structure
and glanced around the corner. She could see the hologram a little way off
from her position and she could see the ridge where she knew Merek and her
team were.
Creeping forward, she reached the panel that she knew had to house the
emitter for the hologram. Taking the panel front off slowly, she looked at
the mechanics inside.
~slowly and delicately would be the way to do this but we don't have time
for that.~ she thought to herself as she grabbed the nearest rock and
smashed it into the panel, breaking the circuitry, the sound of breaking
glass, metal filled her ears.
~damn it.~ she thought to herself as the hologram fizzled out of existence
and his weapon dropped to the floor.
~okay… so that was real.~ Erin thought as she grabbed it and ducked back
behind the building.

After a few minutes, she heard the unmistakable sound of a firefight. There
appeared to be two cultists bearing down on Lieutenant Merek's position.
Holding what had transpired to be an old bajoran phaser rifle, Erin peaked
around the corner of the structure again to see the Lieutenant take out one
of the cultists and the team at the top of the ridge take out the other.
Standing, she walked around to Merek's side, "Not injured are you because
you know he will have my head if anything happens to you."
(Reply Merek)
Slinging the rifle over her shoulder, Erin beckoned to Ensign Zot,
"Come on hot shot. Your turn. Lieutenant Merek, would you be so kind to
cover our asses whilst we take out the generator?"
(Reply Merek)
"I know. Be careful. You are a much better shot than I am. You defending us
just makes more sense. I promise we won't take long."
(Reply Merek)

Walking infront, Erin held the rifle steady. She hated guns but, at this
moment, she pushed that aside and held steady.
Reaching a turn in the corridor, she signalled Zot to stop. Looking around
the corner, she saw one remaining cult member stood by what she surmised to
be the main control terminal.
~Poor kid looks barely old enough to drink.~ she thought to herself.
Looking back to Zot, she whispered, "one guy left."
(Reply Zot)
"I don't want to shoot him if I don't need to. But…"
(Reply Zot)
"We need to get to that console." Sighing, Erin stood, motioned for Zot to
stay where he was and walked around the corner.
"Hey, help a girl out, I'm a bit lost and…" Judging by the look on the
guy's face, he was a second away from reaching for his gun so she brought
up hers to his chest level.
"Don't do that. Step away from it. " she paused as she watched him ponder
what to do. In that split second as they looked at each other, Erin and he
both knew what was about to happen.
He reached, she fired and he fell backwards. As he crashed to the floor, he
lay still. Walking forward, she felt his neck. ~oh thank…. Stunned.~
"Zot?"
(Reply Zot)
"Come on. Our friend here is out for the count."
(Reply Zot)
Stepping back to allow him space to work, Erin tapped her combadge, "Cortez
to Merek."
(Reply Merek)
"We're in and Ensign Zot is at work. Shouldn't be more than a minute or so.
"
(Reply Merek)
"As soon as it's done, we run. Back to the shuttle."
(Reply Merek)
"Understood. Cortez out."
Glancing back at Ensign Zot, she stood next to him, "How's it coming,
Ensign?"
(Reply Zot)
"Excellent. If you can, just power it off. That's all we need to happen.
Download any information you think of relevant and turn the damn machine
off."
(Reply Zot)
After a moment, the whirring of the machinery that they were stood next to
began to lower its pitch. Not a second after that, the lights in the
building flickered as they plunged into darkness.
"Zot… you did it!"
(Reply Zot)
"We can find our way out in the dark. I ate a lot of carrots as a kid."
(Reply Zot)
"Never mind. Terran story for another time."
(Reply Zot)
Tapping her combadge, Erin spoke with a smile,
"Cortez to Merek."
(Reply merek)
"Mission accomplished. Generator down."
(Reply merek)
Tapping a few buttons on her tricorder, Erin sent a message to the strike
team that were tasked with the retrieval of Lieutenant Bracken.
It read simply, "Target is down. Go get our girl."
