"Aye, Commander," Alex said, realizing that he had jumped the gun.

Alex kept one eye on the navigational sensors and the other one the power
levels. Meanwhile, everybody else either reported in or was contacted by
Commander Merek. So far, the launch was a lot more relaxed than what he was
used to. The reason he had cast off too early, was because he was used to
impatient skippers breathing down everybody's neck. ~Always in a rush to
get the cargo delivered or the science mission done.~ Finally, the FO
turned back to him.
"Since we've cleared moorings *ahead of* schedule, let's get moving. Helm,
> all thrusters ahead, dead slow."
>
"Aye, Commander." Alex said as his fingers flew across the board.
"Thrusters ahead, dead slow."
Hades began to move. ~Here we go, girl. You've got this.~ When the song
began to play, he smirked. ~Nice touch.~ This was another example of not
being in a hurry. They cleared the docking berth without a hitch and
Commander Merek turned to him again.
"Helm, thrusters ahead full, adjust heading zero-one-five-mark-zero-three."
"Aye, thrusters ahead," Alex began, while executing the order. "Adjusting
heading to zero-one-five mark zero-three."
Hades - or our Lovely Lady, as Alex called it in his - sped up and changed
course as ordered. ~Just as smooth as in the holodeck.~ But this was not
Alex's first rodeo, so he knew that it would not be until they fired up the
impulse drive that he would know how she really handled. They reached the
holographic door and passed through smoothly. There was an exchange between
Commander Merek and Lieutenant-Commander Miller, then she turned to
Bracken.
"Thank you OPS." Merek said, "Where to, Skipper?"
Alex kept the Hades on her current course and speed as he waited for the
order. They had a lot of territory to cover, and it was up to the skipper
to decide where to begin. ~Of course, Starfleet Command has plenty to say
about it as well.~ But he didn't want to ruin the moment, so he was not
commenting on that.
