SBFREEDOM-RPG: (1-0900) CO - Captain Casian Dahr
From: almuir62 at gmail.com (Al Muir)
Date: Sun, 24 Nov 2024 10:26:57 -0800

Mission: Guess Who?s Coming to Dinner

Day: 1

Stardate: 2446.09.23

(Starbase Freedom - Level 1 - Main Operations - CO?s Office- CO - Captain
Casian Dahr - 0900)

Casian sat behind his desk going over the reports from the previous
shifts. The report sent by the computer system of the turbo lift was most
interesting. He?d never seen an incident report from a computer before. As
he was reading it his comm beeped.

=^=Captain Dahr, message from Trillus. President Zon is ready to
transport.=^=

Dahr tapped his badge and said, ?Acknowledged. I will be at Transporter
room 1 shortly.?

=^=Roger that, Captain.=^=

Casian stood up and stretched his arms over his head. Then tapping his comm
badge he said, ?Dahr to Samuels, meet me in transporter room 1 with your
welcoming/protection team.?

=^=Acknowledge Captain. On our way.=^=

He tapped his comm badge one more time. ?Dahr to Solice. Commander, time
to really start. Meet me in transporter room 1 to welcome President Zon,
from Trillus.?

(reply Solice)

With a deep breath he readied himself for the morning?s events and headed
out.

(Starbase Freedom - Level 2 - Transporter Room 1 - CO - Captain Casian Dahr
- 0905)

Dahr entered the transporter room and nodded to the transporter chief, CPO
Frank Martin. Martin nodded back and began to set his console for the
transport. A moment later Samuels arrived with Lt. Green and Ensign Gort,
short Nausican, well? short for a Nausican.

When Solice arrived Dahr nodded to Martin and he initiated the transport.
With a him from the transporter affect three Trills appeared on the pads, a
man and two rather attractive women.

Zon smiled when he saw Casian and stepped off the pad. ?Casian, good to see
you old friend.?

Dahr shook hands with the President and smiled back. ?Taylin! Great to see
you. And welcome to Freedom.?

?I?ve been here before,? Zon said.

?Not since I?ve been here,? Casian replied, a touch of accusation in his
voice.

Zon nodded, admitting his guilt, ?I am sorry Cas, but you know politics. It
keeps me busy.?

Dahr put a hand on his old friends shoulder and said, ?I do indeed, and
that?s why I stayed away from that game as much as I could. You were always
the one for the limelight.?

?Doesn?t seem very limelighty these days,? the president offered in a
slightly unpresidential manner ?However, I?m here to make up for my
neglectful ways. I believe we still have a couple of hours before the
ambassador is to arrive, and I thought a small tour of the station would be
in order.?

Dahr raised an eyebrow then looked over at Hank. He could see the security
chief sigh then nod. Zon noticed the look and smiled.

?Of course,? he added, ?my own personal security will work with Lt. Samuels
and his team.? He indicated to the two attractive Trill women who beamed up
with him.

Dahr knew Zon?s propensity to surround himself with attractive women. His
predecessor, Jendra Zon, always surrounded herself with attractive men.
Dahr was pretty sure that they both had ?relationships? with their
companions. However, as beautiful as these women were he could feel the
sense of danger from them in the way they stood.

?Of course,? Hank replied, also sensing that these women could handle
themselves.

?Very well,? Dahr said. ?Where?d you like to start??

?As intriguing as your command center might seem,? Zon said, ?I want to see
the people.?

?Or be seen by the people,? Dahr quipped.

Zon smiled, ?Well, the presidency is still an elected position, and there
are a lot of Trill in this base.?

Dahr gave an acceding nod. ?The promenade it is.? He turned to Quinna.
?Commander, could you go with Hank and his team and make an initial check
on level 14.?

(reply Quinna)

From: almuir62 at gmail.com (Al Muir)
Date: Sun, 24 Nov 2024 11:02:38 -0800

Mission: Guess Who?s Coming to Dinner

Day: 1

Stardate: 2446.09.23

(Starbase Freedom - Level 1 - Main Security - CSec?s Office- CSec - Lt.
Hank Samuels - 0901)

Since the Brikarian had heard of the impending visit of the Trill president
he had been preparing several teams for a protection detail, depending on
the time of his visit. He?d been going through the security logs when his
comm badge chirped.

=^=Dahr to Samuels, meet me in transporter room 1 with your
welcoming/protection team.=^=

He tapped his comm badge and said, ?Acknowledge Captain. On our way.?

He closed the channel and tapped his badge again. ?Samuels to Green and
Gort, we are on deck. Meet me outside transporter room 1, immediately.?

=^=Acknowledge,=^= the Nausican growled.

(reply Green)

With that he grabbed his phaser from his desk drawer and headed out.

(Starbase Freedom - Level 2 - Transporter Room 1 - CSec - Lt. Hank Samuels
- 0904)

As Hank arrived outside of the transporter room his junior officers were
right behind him. He nodded to them.

?Green, Gort,? he began, ?we are the first line and last line of protection
for not only President Zon, but also for Captain Dahr. With the President
of Trillus on the station Captain Dahr now has a target on his back. So
stay alert. There is no known threat, but our newest crew member?s presence
gives me a reason for concern. Any questions??

?No,? Gort said in his usual curt way.

(Green)

?Alright,? Samuels said, ?just follow my lead.?

They entered the transporter room, ready for whatever was about to happen.

(reply Green)

SBFREEDOM-RPG: (1 - 0907) XO Commander Quinna Solice
From: msklbailey2016 at gmail.com (Kris Bailey)
Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2024 19:57:53 -0600

Mission: Guess Who?s Coming to Dinner

Day: 1

Stardate: 2446.09.23

(Starbase Freedom - Level 2 - Transporter Room 1 - XO - Commander Quinna
Solice - 0907)

Quinna stood just inside the transporter room. She was next to Dahr as
they awaited the arrival of the President. Quinna took one last pull on
her dress uniform. She had a feeling that this was her way of life. She
flashed back to the moment.

?Dahr to Solice. Commander, time to really start. Meet me in transporter
room 1 to welcome President Zon, from Trillus.?

?I will be there with all the bells and whistles on.? She replied and now
she stood there in full fleet uniform.

And here she was. Her short-term memory was interrupted by the sound of a
transporter. And then appeared the President and his party. Captain Dahr
exchanged pleasantries. Quinna stood tall and waited for her introduction,
however, she got, ?Commander, could you go with Hank and his team and
make an initial check on level 14.?

?Yes, sir,? Quinna said. But felt deflated. She wondered about how
valuable she was when it came to the station. She looked over at Samuels
and nodded.

Quinna took the initial steps out of the transporter room and to the
turbo-lift. ?Deck 14, Quinna ordered the lift. Without taking her eyes
off the doors, ?So was a typical diplomatic greeting??

SBFREEDOM-RPG: (1-0i906) SO - Ensign Gort
From: almuir62 at gmail.com (Al Muir)
Date: Wed, 27 Nov 2024 09:08:02 -0800

Mission: Guess Who?s Coming to Dinner

Day: 1

Stardate: 2446.09.23

(Starbase Freedom - Between Level 2-14 - Turbo Lift - SO - Ensign Gort -
0907)

As a Nausican, security was the obvious position for Gort, even though his
stature was a little less than a typical Nausican. What he lacked in size
he made up for in attitude and reputation. Most conflicts ended when he
arrived as nobody really wanted to deal with him on that level. It
happened when he first arrived and the unfortunate soul nursed broken bones
and contusions for weeks afterwards. However, his reputation was set, and
he was satisfied with the result.

He had looked forward to this protection detail, as it promised, perhaps,
some kind of action. But these Trill on the station were easily
dissuaded from any obvious conflict situations, so he would see how it
goes.

The new security officer, what was her name, Gorn... no, that wasn't it...
Green... turned to him as they stepped on the turbo lift.

"Hello Ensign Gort. I am Raven. What are you thoughts on canvassing the
Promenade ahead of President Zon?" she asked.

The girl was short enough that even he could look down at her a little.
His face was as passive as a Nausican can make and shrugged. "Hopefully
somebody will try something stupid."

With that he he grunted a chuckle at the anticipation of action, then
settled down as he realized that is was quite unlikely.

SBFREEDOM-RPG: (1-0908/0910) CSec - Lt. Hank Samuels
From: almuir62 at gmail.com (Al Muir)
Date: Wed, 27 Nov 2024 08:48:06 -0800

Mission: Guess Who?s Coming to Dinner

Day: 1

Stardate: 2446.09.23

(Starbase Freedom - Between Level 2-14 - Turbo Lift - CSec - Lt. Hank
Samuels - 0908)

Hank heard the captain order Commander Solice to lead them to the Promenade
to secure the area. He thought that an odd order, as he thought the
captain would have wanted to introduce her to the Trill president.
However, if there was one thing he knew about Captan Dahr, he didn?t do
anything by accident. There had to be a reason.

He followed the XO onto the turbo lift as she ordered it to take them to
level 14. She didn?t move after that but eventually asked, ?So was that a
typical diplomatic gathering??

Hank smiled, ?To be honest, Commander, we haven?t had that many ?diplomatic
gatherings? yet. It?s only been a few months since the station has become
operational, and other than the Federation representative, and during the
ceremony of the Trill reintegration into the Federation, we haven?t had to
many opportunities. I will say that it was not what I expected either.?

He paused for a moment then added, ?However, from what I?ve heard of
President Zon, you may be better off with me than with them. Zon and Dahr
are long time friends so that may enter the equation. Perhaps the captain
wanted a word alone with the president.?

(reply Solice)

The door to the turbolift opened.

(Starbase Freedom - Level 14 - Promenade Level 1- CSec - Lt. Hank Samuels
- 0910)

Hank waited to allow the XO to step off the turbo lift then followed her.
They were not heading into a hostile environment. This was a typical day
in the life of the Promenade, up to this point. They were there to assess
the area of potential danger and keep the immediate area secure. However,
Hank was prepared for the President?s visit. He tapped his comm badge.

?Samuels to alpha, beta and gamma teams, assume your positions.?

Each team acknowledged the order. Hank knew that the initial point of
visit will be pretty easy. Level 16 is the one that worried him the most.
If there will be an ?incident? or ?protest? it will be there. Starbase
Freedom was not all filled with fans of the president, with good reason.

He took an initial look across the Promenade and noted that it was, indeed,
a typical day. It was early yet and there were few people there, shopping
and eating. He smiled thinking that Zon will probably be initially
disappointed.

We shall see if he really wants to ?meet the people? living on Starbase
Freedom.

Day: 1

Stardate: 2446.09.23.

(Starbase Freedom - Level 14 - Promenade Level 1- CSec - Lt. Hank Samuels
- 0910)

Samuels looked at the corner Solice was pointing to. He wasn?t sure what
she was seeing but her recent experience on Freedom may have given her an
insight that he didn?t suspect.

He nodded, ?Sounds good. Let me know if you need us..?

?Lt. Green with me,? she ordered and moved towards that corner.

Samuels looked at Gort and smiled, ?Okay big guy, we?ll start on the
opposite side and move round towards them.?

The Nausican grunted his acknowledgment and moved along with his chief. As
they walked through the Promenade it was like any other day. Hank was known
to ? walk a beat. He knew almost all of the shop proprietors personally.
Him greeting them daily was not out of the norm. Having Gort with him gave
it a different feel.

As they walked by the clothing store a woman with a small child stopped and
smoked at the El Aurian. Then when her gaze fell upon Gort she put her hand
down to her child and scooted her behind, protectively. Their trajectory
changed as they took a wide berth of the pair. She nodded to Hank and then
hurried on her way.

Gort?s eyes followed them and then turned to look at Samuels. He shrugged
and then went on his way along the path they?d been going.

Quinna thought about Samuels statement and let it go. As they stepped off
the turbolift, Samuels swung into action.

?Samuels to alpha, beta and gamma teams, assume your positions.?

?I see you have a game book already. Remind me to find a copy to acquaint
myself with your proceedings.? Quinna said as they walked about.

Quinna noted the calmness of the deck but noted an area or two that could
be a problem. She was sure Samuel had them covered, but Quinna wanted to
see for herself. ?I want to check out that corner.? Quinna said to
Samuels as she pointed to the location in question.

(Reply Samuels)

?Lt. Green, with me,? Quinna ordered as she stepped toward the dark
corner.

"What are we looking for Ma'am"

?Just wanting to check it out. It looks like a potential blind spot. Just
making sure it is all clear. Can?t be too careful.?

(Reply Green)

?And I asked you to come with me because there is safety in numbers.?

(Reply Green)

The two approached the dark corner and Quinna took a look around. Things
were indeed clear. ?Well, things looks good here, Lt. Wouldn?t you agree,?
Quinna asked retorically, ?Let's get back to Samuels and carry on.?

(Reply Green)

?It is all clear,? Quinna reported while approaching Samuels. ?Thanks for

Day: 4

Stardate: 2446.09.20

(Starbase Freedom - Level 2 ?XO?s Quarters- XO Commander Quinna Solice --
1305)

Quinna spent the better part of her day in her new quarters. It was
furnished but needed a little something here or there to make it home. A
blanket draped over the couch. A few Extra pillows for comfort, a small
amount of fluffy here and there that would probably make Michael think it
was too much.

She had more room than she had in her quarters, and she wondered what she
would do with all the extra space. Quinna took the extra room and decided
to store all her belongings from the Illumnar?s sickbay. Opening up a
couple of boxes she noted a lock box she obtained from Dieter?s
possessions. It contained the items from their orb search. Her mother?s
locket was in the box and she took hold of it.

Quinna then sat on the floor going through boxes. Apparently, much of her
stuff ended up in the spare room. Family photos, trinkets, holiday decor.
There was a box of her Brother?s holiday holo novels. She then looked
around thinking how hard would it be to convert the spare room into a
holosuite. She laughed out loud thinking how she could make those on the
Illuminar jealous with her own holosuite.

Quinna stood as she was tired of looking in boxes. She decided that she
could not do much without ways to organize her stuff. Shelves would work.

?I am so liking the idea of a personal holosuite,? Quinna again said
talking to herself.

Going to her replicator, she ordered a coffee and sat on the couch, It was
not that comfortable but it was functional. She pulled off her shoes and
covered up in her blanket. ?Computer, Display the Federation News
Channel,? Quinna said as she decided to catch up on what was going on in
the universe.

(Starbase Freedom - Level 2 ?CO?s Quarters- Chief of Pediatric Surgery

?Guilty pleasure?? She had to think. ?I can?t think of anything that
gives me pleasure that I would feel guilty about. But.. I think, if I
understand your meaning, something I enjoy that I would rather others did
not know about??? She looked from one side to the other then finally
whispered, ?Holonovels. I really like to participate in interactive
holonovels.?

Roxanne smiled. ?Any particular genre that you enjoy? Rom-Com, Holiday,
Horror, ?? Roxanne asked genuinely curious about the ensign.

Wednesday blinked. This was definitely not the conversation she envisioned
while getting ready for the gathering. She turned her head to the side and
looked around the room, then smiled.

?Now I understand the term ?guilty? pleasure,? she admitted. ?Although I do
enjoy a good adventure, I have been known to participate in? a romance
novel. Serious romance,? she added quickly, ?not that rom-com garbage.
There?s nothing funny about serious emotions.?

?I like a person with strong opinions. It shows your decisiveness.?
Roxanne commented.

?How about you, ma?am?? she asked. ?Have you ever experienced a romance
novel on the holodeck??

?You know, I cannot remember the last time I indulged in a holonovel. And
please call me Roxanne. I am not in any chain of command. I want you to
be relaxed in my home.?

Wednesday chuckled, ?I?m relaxed as I possibly can be in the home of my new
CO?Roxanne. And I guess holonovels are easier than real life. I can see
why you don?t need a romance novel. But perhaps we could go through an
adventure story at some time.?

Roxanne thought about Wednesday?s comment. She tried to remember the last
time she had any sort of romance. Perhaps she needed to put more effort
into romancing her husband, he might try as well. ?You know, I think I
would like that.? Roxanne then reached into the basket on the table, ?You
know this basket has a lot of small things that I give to new staff. There
is something in here you may like.? It took Roxanne time to dig through
the basket until she found a chip. She handed it to Wednesday. ?Here.?

Wednesday took the chip and cocked her head to examine the chip. Her hand
instinctively moved for her tricorde before she remembered that she was
dressed for a different occasion. She looked up at the older woman.

?It is a chip that allows three trips to the holo suites located in the
Entertainment section of the Promenade.?

?Oooo..,? Wednesday cooed, belaying her true age, ?thank you. You have to
join me for the first one.?

?We shall see. I am leaving the station for a few days. I have been asked
to be a keynote speaker for a medical conference. Maybe when I get back.?
Another thing she had not had a chance to tell her husband.

Wednesday nodded. She?d gotten used to people avoiding being with her, the
possible chance of a companion for a future adventure was promising. ?I?m
going to hold you to that.? She couldn?t believe her own forwardness.

?May I ask what your topic for your speech is?? Wednesday tried to move on
quickly.

?Well, that is a good question. Just got the call for it today, the
previous keynote speaker had to cancel. I have been working on it in my
brain. Since I specialize in pediatric surgery, I was thinking about my
latest focus on the reconstructive surgery of the children on Trill
post-disaster. I returned from there a couple of months ago.?

?Wow,? Wednesday said, ?that?s quite a topic.? She paused for a moment t
and looked at Roxanne intensely. ?You know Roxanne, I think my mom would?ve
liked you. She was a healer on my world, and was great with children. I
was always surprised that I didn?t have any siblings.?

?I might need a joke or two to boot since that is an intense topic.?
Roxanne continued.

?So not your gal to help with that,? Wednesday laughed. ?I?ve been accused
of many things, but a sense of humor has not been one of them.?

?Perhaps we should join the others,? Roxanne said, noting the new arrivals
at the party. ?I see that others have arrived. Time to be the hostess to
the others as well.?

Wednesday nodded, ?Good idea.? She followed her back to the growing group.

?You have very nice quarters, sir,? Raven said.

?Thanks, Raven,? Dahr replied. ?It?s really all my wife?s doing.? He
stepped back and looked admiringly at the changeling's chosen form and
attire. ?I must say that you look quite lovely.?

Soren was the first to step forward. ?Enchanted,? he said taking her hand

?Alright you lecherous Vulcan smoothie,? Dahr said nudging the engineer
away from the girl, ?enough of that.?

Michael stepped forward and shook her hand. ?A pleasure, Ms. Green.?

When he touched her hand he noticed that its texture was a little off. She

Quinna looked around the Captain?s quarters. The cooking smelt delicious.
She still clutched a bottle of wine she had brought for the occasion. A
Chateaux Picard Merlot.

She made notes that Dr. Dahr was talking to a now Ensign Adams. She
remembered how they played Illuminar Bingo and apparently Quinna was a
check on the list. She wondered what they were going to do now that she
was not on board. She was sure Stev would love to be replaced on that
square of the bingo card.

Though Quinna did not interact she did turn to see a newcomer enter the
quarters and talking with the Captain. Quinna moved and put the wine on
the counter and went back to mingle.

?Come on in,? he ushered her into the living area and began to introduce
the others. ?You know Hank, of course. This is Commander Soren, my chief
engineer, Commander Solice, my XO, and Deputy Director of SFI, Michael
Weston. This is Raven Green. Our newest member of Hank?s team.?

Quinna moved to greet the woman but was a microsecond late in her step.
She needed to work on that. She was afraid that in a social situation, if
others pushed in front of her then they may do that on duty as well. She
needed to learn to get in there without being pushy.

Soren was the first to step forward. ?Enchanted,? he said taking her hand
and kissing the back of it.?

?Alright you lecherous Vulcan smoothie,? Dahr said nudging the engineer
away from the girl, ?enough of that.?

Michael stepped forward and shook her hand. ?A pleasure, Ms. Green.?

?Ms. Green, it is a pleasure to meet you.? Quinna could sense the
non-human part of Green, since Quinna was a doctor. ?Ms. Green, where are
you from?? Curious she asked.

(Reply Green)

?I would love to get to know more about you,? Quinna said hoping she would
open up more.

Quinna?s internal alarms went off. She debated internally what she should
do but remembering she is a doctor and primarily the 1st officer of the
station, and given the person right in front of her is a Starfleet officer,
Quinna decided that she would proceed. She did think it might be kinda
rude to leave a party and return. She was raised better than that.

?Ok, Lt. but would it be considered rude to leave the party and return??

Michhael watched as this Raven Green pulled Quinna aside after being asked
such a basic question as ?where are you from?? Was there an issue with
that which would require the personal attention of the XO of the station.
He gave Quinna her privacy and moved over to watch as Dahr fired up his
grill and began to, what he called, cook.

He kept track of Quinna with his peripheral vision and when she had
separated from Green went over to her. He put his arm around her waist and
kissed her cheek.

While he was close to her ear he asked, ?Everything ok??

?I am great.? Quinna said, ?How are you doing?? Quinna asked. Quinna
knew this was not something he was completely used to. ?You know, maybe
there is some wine. You think the Kissing Doctor could be the station's
talk tomorrow.?

Michael leaned back and gave her a wicked smile, ?We could give them
something to talk about.? Then he said, refocusing the conversation, ?What
was that about, with Little Red?@

?Ms. Green is interesting. I think she is going to be a great addition to
the station.? Quinna said.

Now he looked intrigued, ?Really? What makes you say that??

?Gut feeling and girl talk, babe?.? though Quinna was not much on girl
talk. All she knew about girl talk was when she sat and drank wine with
Sienna and T?Mur back on the Illumunar. ?So have I missed anything juicy
when I was away??

Michael?s eyes narrowed. She was keeping something from him. But if she
thought he needed to know she?d say something so he chose to let it go for
now.

?Nah,? he replied, ?just the captain thinking that he can cook. Although
it really is hard to mess up a barbecue.? He knew he was being a bit
irreverent and a little snobby, but he was proud of his own cooking
abilities. Perhaps they should host an evening.

?Come on. Lets go mingle more.? Quinna tugged on Michael?s arm.

SBFREEDOM-RPG: (5-1845) CO- Captain Casian Dahr
From: almuir62 at gmail.com (Al Muir)
Date: Sat, 16 Nov 2024 11:33:08 -0800

Mission: Transitions

Day: 5

Stardate: 2446.09.20

(Starbase Freedom - Level 2 - CO?s Quarters - CO- Captain Casian Dahr -
1845)

Casian watched as the crew mingled and conversed. He paid particular
attention to Raven Green. She was going to be a problem, as far as her
origins. He was going to have to clarify that before the night was out.
Meanwhile the majority of his attention was being set to his meager
barbecuing skills. He had kept the menu simple by making patties of ground
meat and grilling them to make a human delicacy known as ?hamburgers?.

He didn?t really get the reference since they were not composed of ham, or
any other kind of pork meat. However, upon further research he found that
it was because the type of food had originated in an Earth city called
Hamburg, Germany. A Hamburg steak was a seasoned ground beef patty that
was a staple food in that city and country. Then the bread was added and
the Hamburg sandwich became the hamburger.

He had also found a thing called a vegetarian burger. A patty comprised of
various vegetables, such as carrots, spinach, garlic and mushrooms, as well
as black beans as a base and breadcrumbs to hold it together. He figured
that Zerin might have an appreciation of his efforts, as well as any of the
new crew, since he wasn?t aware of the dietary habits.

When everything was done he put the burgers on buns, then on a serving
platter and carried the platter to the table.

?Ladies and gentlemen,? he announced, ?dinner is served.? The group all
took seats around the table. Then he continued. ?It is my understanding
that this is a ?help yourself? event. So don?t be afraid to reach across
the table. The meat burgers are here,? he indicated to the right side, ?and
a vegetarian option is here,? he indicated to the left. ?Please?help
yourselves.?

Hank didn?t need to be asked twice. In his lifetime he?d been to many such
occasions. He even participated in barbecue meals on Earth before they had
their third world war. He found it interesting how food was such a uniting
weapon in so many cultures. Humans had the tendency to equate culture with
food, but for good reason.

The El Aurian reached across and grabbed a burger. He helped himself to the
potato salad and even a helping of Zerin?s green salad. He put some lettuce
and tomatoes on his sandwich and topped it with something called ketchup.
Then he put the top on.

Looking around the table he saw young Miss Adams watching him intently.
Wiccans were an off shoot human race, but he was sure that she?d never seen
a hamburger in her life. Smiling at her, he picked his up with his hands
and took a bite.

Wednesday watched the security chief with great interest. Wiccans,
generally, were vegetarians. She appreciated the fact that Captain Dahr had
made a vegetarian style option. Following the example of Samuels, she
reached over and took the vegetarian burger. She followed what he had done,
including the side items.

Before she bulked up the courage to try the burger she dipped her fork in
the potato salad and put a morsel of cream covered potatoes in her mouth.
She smiled her appreciation of the flavors and the textures of the food.
With that encouragement she took a bite from her burger.

Her eyes opened wide and she proclaim, ?This is wonderful.?

Zerin had even more trepidation about the vegetarian burger. He watched
Wednesday carefully. He had already filled his plate with his salad. He did
not morally object to enjoying meat, but his Vulcan physiology did not
always promote its consumption. Encouraged by the Wiccan?s reaction to the
vegetarian burger he decided to give it a try. He put the burger on his
plate without the bun and passed on the ketchup. His past experience with
the condiment had steered him away from it.

Using a knife and fork he cut into the meatless meat and took a small bite.
A smile spread across his usual passive face.

?Why Casian,? he said, ?I believe you?ve finally made something that won?t
kill me.?

Dahr chuckled, ?Not without trying. Glad you like it.?

He put his hand on the table, next to his wife and she put hers in his.

(reply anyone else)

The gathering ate for a while still having ?small talk? conversations. Most
of it was about personal things going on in the station.

?So Hank,? Zerin said, ?how?s Anna doing??

The ongoing joke between them was that Loxana Bagel and he would be in some
hot and torrid affair if the security chief weren?t already married.

Hank shook his head but replied, ?She?s doing great. Wants to know why her
favorite Vulcan won?t eat her wares.?

?And move in on your territory,? Zerin shot back, ?not in your life.?

Hank was about to reply when Dahr cut in. ?Alright, that?s good, gentlemen.
We have some business to conduct.?

They both settled down as he continued. ?First of all, thanks for all of
you coming. I hope you all have had a chance to meet our new executive
office, Commander Solice.?

(reply Solice)

?We also have an addition to our engineering department, Ensign Wednesday
Adams.?

Wednesday?s cheeks reddened slight as she uncomfortably waved, ?Hi.?

?She came with high praises from the Illuminar,? he said. ?And Lt Bohb,
unprompted, sent a raving recommendation, so I?m sure Zerin will be excited
to have you on his team.?

?Indeed,? the Vulcan nodded and raised his glass of fruit juice in toast.
?Bohb?s reputation is long standing.?

?Lastly,? Dahr said, looking at Raven, ?is Hanks newest member of his
security team, Lt. Raven Green.?

(reply Raven)

?I suppose, at this time, it would be prudent to mention Miss Green's
background. You?ll all find out sooner or later, but the Lieutenant is a
Changeling. I mention this now in case anyone holds any standing animosity
towards her people. If so, the time to speak up is now.?

He paused and looked around the table. Seeing no indication of a problem he
went on. ?My expectation is that we hold her to the same standard as any
other officer, and give her the same respect. She is not an object to be
challenged at a party, or a child to be dared into some kind of unbecoming
conduct. If we?re clear on that we can continue.?

(reply any)

The CO went on. ?The next few days are going to be interesting, and perhaps
a little difficult. First of all we will be receiving a new ambassador from
the Federation. She should be arriving in two days. All senior staff will
make themselves available to welcome her.? He looked directly at Zerin.
?Everyone.?

The Vulcan groaned a little. ?Alright, alright.?

?To help welcome her the president of Trillus will be on the station,? he
said. ?Hank, we?ll need a security detail who will work with his own.?

?Got it,? Hank replied.

?Timing couldn?t be any better,? Dahr said. ?I don?t have an exact time,
but soon after that we will have the Tholian entourage arriving at the
station. I?m not exactly sure what Ambassidor Ren had promised them, but
the Federation will take any opportunity to improve our relations with the
Tholians. Any questions??

SBFREEDOM-RPG: (6-1839) ED Director Dr. Lynn McCullough
From: almuir62 at gmail.com (Al Muir)
Date: Sat, 2 Nov 2024 09:40:08 -0700

Mission: Transitions

Day: 6

Stardate: 2446.09.22

(Starbase Freedom - Level 11 - Medical Plaza- Emergency Department- Trauma
1 - Dr. Lynn McCullough - 1839)

When Lynn appeared in the trauma center the team swarmed the patient and
moved him to the table. Within moments the holo-displays of the medical
scans were beginning to appear.

?The patient is a male, multi-species, that presented with severe internal
trauma, hemorrhaging, what functions as his kidneys failing, heart damage
and a punctured lung.?

Grant Hansen, her trauma surgeon looked at the display and circled several
areas. ?Not to mention these broken bones.? Looking at the display he
shook his head, ?Sweet mother of ?, how many species??

?My count was five,? Lynn said, ?but the EMH on his ship assured me that it
was nine.?

?Yeah,? Hansen nodded looking at the holographic display, pointing to the
genetic coding being shown with his stylus, ?and this is no intentional
genetic manipulation. This looks like generations of interspecial
integration.?

Lynn smiled. The Deltan certainly had a way to make the word breeding sound
less personal. She picked up her own stylus and went to the image display
if the patient?s internal structures and whistled.

?Whatever happened to this guy,? she said with a sense of horrified awe,
?it caused a lot of damage. lol at this.? She drew a circle around the
left forearm saying, ?he has a compound radial/ulnar shaft fracture. But
look, the bone fragments are already showing signs of knotting.?

?So why do you sound worried?? Hansen asked. ?It looks like one of his
primary species is Takaran. They?re known to have an incredible healing
rate.?

?Look closer,? McCullough ordered. ?The radial artery is between two of the
bone sections. If the bone heals around that? well? it won?t be good.
That?s your first job.?

?Yes ma?am,? the Deltan replied.

?As for me,? Lynn continued, ?I need to crack his chest and get that rib
out of his lung before that gets healed in there. Then he has a lacerated
aorta, but if you look at how it?s healing, if we leave it he?ll wind up
with an aortic aneurysm that could be life threatening.?

Grant looked at the blood word and shook his head, ?That EMH pumped him
full of enough painkiller to stop a full grown Targ in heat.?

?He seems to be tolerating it,? Lynn said as she attached a set of neural
calipers to his neck. ?But this?ll keep him in his coma until we?re done.?

The two surgeons went to work. Their team handed them instruments as fast
as they asked for them. It was great to have a well trained team. It
certainly wasn?t that way when she arrived a few short months ago. But now
the techs could anticipate her needs and act quickly.

They worked on the patient for nearly two hours, repairing systems as
quickly as they could before his natural healing factor took them down
roads they didn?t want to go.

Lynn?s last job was to repair what passed as the patient's renal system.
There was definitely a fast learning curve for both of the doctors as they
worked on a body they barely recognized. But finally the last incision was
sealed. She watched, in amazement, as the scar tissue seemed to fade away
in minutes.

Stepping back for a moment she looked at Grant and nodded. He reached
behind the patient's neck and removed the neural calipers. McCullough
picked up the hypospray to counter the medications that put the patient
into a coma and waited.

She tapped her comm badge, ?Captain Dahr, we?ve done all we can. We are
countering the induced coma now. Just thought you?d like to know.?

There was a pause and he answered, =^=I?ll be right there.=^=

Day: 6

Stardate: 2446.09.21

(Starbase Freedom - Level 1 - Main Ops - CO?s Office - CO Captain Casian
Dahr, XO Commander Quinna Solice and SFI- D.D. Michael Weston - 1845)

Casian sat behind his desk, leaning forward and looking intensely at the
PADD. He took a deep breath and let it out, more as a sign of frustration
than anything else. He needed this T?xen Toks on the station like he needed
a hole in the head.

Weston and Solice let themselves in. After all, they'd been invited. ?Come
on in,? Casian said. ?Make yourselves at home.?

Michael sat in the chair across from Casian and resisted the urge to put
his feet on the desk.

Quinna nodded as she took the seat off to the side of Michael. ?Captain??
Quinna asked without asking anything.

Casian looked at the pair and nodded, ?Well, this visitor has left us a bit
of a pickle.? He stood up and came round the desk, PADD in hand. Tapping
the PADD on his hand he went on.

?His name is T?xen Toks,? Dahr said and looked at Michael. ?Are you
familiar with the name??

Michael shrugged and shook his head, ?Should I??

?Well he is SFI,? Dahr said sitting on the edge of the desk. ?Apparently
he?s attached to the Temporal Affairs department.?

Michael sat forward and breathed out. ?WOW. No. I?ve been out of the flow
of information for most of the year so?. , but even when I was in TA was
not my forte.?

Quinna thought momentarily, ?What would someone from temporal affairs be
doing here in the first place? I would like to check out his shuttle and
ascertain the damage, that is after I check in with his current medical
state. Perhaps get some insight on the wounds.? Quinna wanted to know if
the wounds matched those of the other SFI she treated.

Dahr shook his head, ?Not just yet. I have no idea what the AI on that ship
is capable of, and according to Mr. Toks? directions, his ship is
considered top secret, under the temporal prime directive. Believe me, I
had the same thought. We?ve even been trying to do low-level scans of the
ship, but it has some kind of dampening device to block our scans.?

Michael gave a wicked smile, ?I?d be willing to challenge his temporal
prime directive as deputy director so that at least I can get on the ship.?

Quinna looked at Michael, ?Do you think that may even work? After all,
your status just changed.?

Dahr sighed, ?It might be our best bet, right now. I?ll put in a call to
Mars.?

?Let me handle that,? Michael said. ?I have a relationship with the
Director. She?ll more likely bend a rule for me than you. Besides, maybe I
can get more information on this Temporal Affair operative. I won?t lie,
I?m not a fan of time travel.?

?Nor I,? Dahr agreed, ? but since the inception of time travel I see their
purpose, as long as they are trustworthy.?

Quinna nodded but just let the two carry on. Not to mention she did not
have another suggestion.

?Then get to it, Mr. Weston,? Dahr?s ordered. ?Commander, I need you to
stay behind.?

Michael looked from Dahr to Quinna. ?I?ll catch up with you later. Looks
like dinner?s going to be late tonight.?

?Of course,? Quinna said.

Once Weston had left Dahr focused on his XO. ?I don?t like this. Not one
bit. I?m not a huge fan of spies, to begin with. Sorry. But time-traveling
spies. And the timing couldn?t be worse.?

?Is there any better time for time-traveling spies?? Quinna scoffed, ?What
else is going on?? Quinna asked.

?Well, we have the new ambassador from Earth arriving tomorrow,? Dahr?s
said, ?and the whole thing with the Tholians envoy that?s en route.
Apparently it was decided to keep that meeting.? He paused then added,
?Let?s just say that I?ve got a bad feeling about this.?

?You are the expert. I am all new to this.? Quinna started. ?I admit I
am surprised that the Tholians are still coming.?

Dahr chuckled, ?To be honest Quinna, there are times I have a problem with
being ?the expert?. I was coerced back into service because of my
experiences during the war. The people needed someone to get behind. I?ve
spent the last years of my life on a farm.?

?That is the burden of doing what you do to the best of your ability; when
you do a great job, you can never truly leave,? Quinna said, ?But I
digress, what can I take off your hands for you, today??

Casian chuckled, ?You can take the captain out of the chair? Anyway, today
nothing. This day is nearly over. Tomorrow, however, I?d like you to keep
an eye on Mr. Toks while I welcome the ambassador.?

?I can do that,? Quinna assured him. So Quinna was going to be making a
trip to the infirmary. She wondered how well that was going to go over.
She did have a hard time taking the doctor out of herself this morning.

Dahr nodded and stood up, ?In that case, you have the rest of the evening
off, and I believe that Mr. Weston might be a little hungry. Go? have
dinner. I?ll see you in the morning. Dismissed.?

Day: 6

Stardate: 2446.09.22

(Starbase Freedom - Level 11 - Medical Plaza- Emergency Department- Trauma
1 -
Dr. Lynn McCullough, Captain Casian Dahr and T?xen Toks
- 2045)

Energy blasts, the ship, evading at its best could do circles around most
vessels at impulse, but at warp speed it wouldnt stay ahead for long.

The blasts and the damn energy dampening weaponry had not disabled his baby
but hadn?t knocked her out. The problem was the radiation of the energy
weapons used as well and he wasn?t allowed to use thwarting tech as it
wasn?t developed yet. Time could be a bit snarky at times.

They were sweeping through the shuttle and he?d already taken that damned
direct hit when he was rushing to the ship. Thank the great bird they
hadn?t seen past his camouflage emitters and recognized the ships as not
one of theirs.

He rushed to support the EMH make a repair for warp but that?s when the
ship got its biggest blast of radiation. He barely crawled back to the
cockpit of the speed freighter and was in and out before reaching the
starbase.

Wait, did he? Did he make it? He struggled to openhis eyes to an overly
bright light and movement around him. People, what kind he didn?t know. But
he wasn?t alone and he certainly was not on Mirai.

Lynn watched over the patient as his eyes began to move wildly behind the
closed lids. Suddenly he blinked. Then his eyes shot open and he began to
move. She stepped forward and put a restraining hand on his shoulder.

?Easy there,? her soft voice said in its lilting brogue. ?You?re safe. My
name is Dr. Lynn McCullogh. What?s yours??

His eyes darted left and right.?T?xen Toks, SFI. I need to see the captain
of the station immediately.?

She nodded then asked, ?Do you know where you are??

?A medical deck. Starfleet. Not necessarily safe but much more safe than
before,? he said.

?Your on Starbase Freedom,? she said, ?and Captain Dahr is on his way.?
She paused for a moment the. Said, ?Can you tell me what happened to you.
You?ve had some pretty extensive damage.?

Toks shrugged, then grimaced noticeably. Not perfect yet. But he flashed a
wide smile and said

?In truth I?m surprised I?m alive and can finish the mission. You must be
pretty good.? . He could tell by her expression she wasn?t at all
distracted.

?Tholian?s have a new radiation weapon,? he relented.

She nodded, ?That would explain the massive cellular disruption. Well,
fortunately for you Dr. Hansen and I had had some experience putting
jigsaws back together. Not that we had to do too much. Your body seemed to
counter the radiation pretty well.?

She nodded to the Deltan who smiled and laid a hand on T?xen?s shoulder. He
had noticed the grimace and closed his eyes, focusing on relieving the
pain.

Toks sighed. ?Ahhh, much better. Thank you. Not a trick I picked up with my
genetic heritage. But I do have genetic memory.?

The door to the trauma room opened and Dahr walked in. He nodded to
McCullogh.

?Doctor, how?s your patient?? he inquired.

?Well,? she smiled, ?I think he?ll survive though I?m not exactly sure how
much I had to do with that and how much he just healed himself. ?

He turned his attention to the Chimeric being on the table, ?Mr. Tox, I?m
Captain Dahr. I must say that you know how to make an entrance.?

?Toks,? Captain. ??T?xen Toks. And I assure you I would have preferred the
arrival be forgetful. But I?m grateful for the help, from the doctors and
your team. Is my ship repairing itself? Behaving itself??

?As per the directions in your encoded file I have ordered my team to stay
away from her,? Dahr assured him, ?so, to be honest, I?m not certain of her
condition. I can have my chief engineer do a full diagnostic if you?d like
to know details. I can tell you she?s still there and in one piece.?

The Agent nodded. ?Thank you. If she?s in one piece she?ll let me know if
she needs any help. And as part of your final information I?ll need your
doctor to allow us the use of a medical tricorder and the information will
be initially your eyes only, and any you feel authorized to keep the secret
information. I am assigned to assist you and carry out my orders of
preventing the issue at hand.?

Dahr raised a questioning eyebrow. ?As far as the tricorder, that?s up to
Dr. McCullough. As far as who I?d share the information with, that would
depend on what?s involved. My XO comes to mind. Perhaps my chief of
security. Beyond that, I understand need to know.?

McCullough looked at Toks with a deep scanning glare. ?I?m uncomfortable
with what yer planning to do wi? my equipment, laddie. But I?ll give you a
shot.?

She handed the tricorder over to Toks.

Toks took the medical tricorder with a grateful nod and entered a series of
codes then scanned his throat. The tricorder ran through a series of
internal processes then a voice said, [Awaiting authorization code, voice,
and retinal scan from command level personnel.]

Toks handed the tricorder to the captain. ?Here you go sir. Once you have
this. You will be mostly as informed as I am.?

Dahr looked over At McCullough and she shrugged. ?In for a penny,? she
said.

He sighed then looked at Toks. ?Doctor, I?ll need you to excuse us for a
minute.?

Lynn looked at the pair coyly and said, ?Well, I never.? Then she winked
and stepped out of the trauma room.

Dahr looked at the tricorder , then held it up to his face. The device
scanned his retina and began to whirr. After a minute the data began to
scroll across the screen. Dahr read it as fast as it appeared.

T?xen watched the captain?s face for signs of his reaction, but remained
silent. He had his own concerns and areas he wasn?t able to speak on which
was certain to create strife.

When the data scroll stopped he looked up at the blue hued being on the
bed. ?It?s pretty damn vague, Mr Toks.?

Toks nodded and took a deep breath and tentatively sat up on the bed. ?I?I
understand your frustration,? Toks breathed out at the slight, but not
overwhelming, pain. ?I tried to gather something more tangible for you.
What I can tell you is this. The information came from a source very
reliable and has had complete accuracy so far.?

Dahr made a disapproving look at the tricorder. ?I bet. But this thing
here, somebody is going to die. It?s too vague to accept. I get the whole
temporal prime directive. I even agree with it. But really??

?I discovered the ship fleets being equipped with a new weapon. Even with
all my ships modified little tricks. I almost died getting away.? Toks
replied.

?And there?s something new. There?s someone they are working with. Try as
SFI might, we haven?t found out whom.?

Dahr nodded, ?We have that part satisfied. The Tholians wee in contact with
the Federation Ambassador Ren. He was responsible for a series of?
atrocities that led to the Tholians being in a position to annex
territories to enhance the Assembly. It?s what?s bringing the Tholians
here. To meet with Ren.?

T?Xen paused and breathed in slowly. Let the information process. ?Logic,
as my mother would have pointed out, were she involved, suggests Ren is a
likely target. But the obvious isn?t necessarily the Tholian way, rogue
element or not.?

He looked to the captain.

Dahr downloaded the file to his personal PADD and then wiped the medical
tricorder clean. He looked down at the man on the table and asked, ?So
what, exactly, is your assignment, Mr Toks??

?You certainly know the station and the incidents here much better than I
do. I am here to support and assist. But I am authorized to take this
investigation in any direction I deem appropriate.?

The CO?s eyes narrowed. ?That? is not how I operate. You will keep me
informed of your intentions at all times. Is that clear? Or time traveler
or not, I will have you shipped off this station without your ship, and
somebody from the TA can collect it. You can clear your actions through me
before you take them.?

Tok?s shrugged again. ?It wasn?t a threat. You know the rules. I am
required to say that. But again I know your reputation and see no need to
activate my authority. I also have no intention of going off without your
knowledge on your station.?

Toks looked the captain in the eye. He understood the captains prerogative
and the captains need to be in command. But he also knew his assignment,
and his own authority when it became necessary.

Luckily there very rarely came a time that the COS couldn?t be the ones to
make the needed call. It was a win win SFI preferred.

?I also understand you have experience with agents who go off on their own.
I prefer to develop trust in case there is other missions.?

Dahr put his hands behind his back. He maintained his gaze but softened his
eyes a little. The trouble with most spies is that they, typically, are
used to being the lone wolves. They operate under the mindset of ?it?s
easier to ask for forgiveness rather than permission.? It?s a mindset that
serves them well in the field.

However, Toks was not in the field. He was on his station. But considering
the man?s current health this was probably not the best to e to split hairs
over authority or semantics. It seemed clear that Toks? intention was to be
on Freedom for a while. Or at least in this time frame.

Finally he said, ?We can have a conversation on the clarification of roles
when you?re feeling more up to it and we both have time to think about what
we?re saying. I had to have a similar conversation with your Deputy
Director when he came on board. He?ll probably want to talk with you as
well, since he?ll your direct supervisor in the sector.?

He stepped forward and put a fatherly hand on Toks' shoulder and said,
?Meanwhile, you need to follow doctors orders and get better. We?ll talk
again soon.?

With that he turned and left. McCullough and Hansen moved back in to take
readings on their patient. Lynn looked at the holo-display and then over at
Grant.

?Are you seeing this?? she asked.

?I don?t believe it,? Hansen replied, ?but yes, I?m seeing it too.?

She looked over at Toks and picked up her medical tricorder. ?Confirmed.
Well T?xen, you?re one for the books. Every broken bone is almost
completely healed. Your organs have nearly regenerate. At this rate, give
it a couple of days, and your body won?t have signs of their injuries.?

Toks grinned at that. ?Thank you Doc. Does that mean I get to check out??

Her stern look told him immediately otherwise. ?Let?s see how you are
tomorrow. You?re stuck here for now.?

?Acknowledged Doctor. You remind me of my EMH. Same bedside manner, but
always correct. It was worth a shot. He leaned back stifling a yawn but
smiled letting her know he was joking. ?Thank you for everything. Really.?

Despite his preference to sleep in his own bunk, his body had just done a
lot of work and was exhausted. And it was ordered by the station captain,
and he wasn?t interested in actually being on THAT officers bad side
anymore than he could help.

Day: 6

Stardate: 2446.09.22

(Starbase Freedom - Level 11 - Medical Plaza- XO Commander Quinna Solice
and Nurse Ensign Lucy Van Pelt - 2055)

Quinna was relieved and sent back to her quarters but felt a little
sidelined. The Captain wanted her to rest and have dinner ready for
Michael. But Quinna could not just sit back and kick her feet up. On
instinct, she got up and headed out. Her destination was the station
infirmary.

So she is now standing in the infirmary at the door of the infirmary. She
looked around and headed for someone she could meet.

?Ma?am, may I help you?? a nurse approached Quinna. Quinna just stood
there. ?Ma?am, are you feeling sick?

?Oh, sorry, ?Quinna said, ?I am here to check out the facilities. I am new
here and I was curious since my last posting was the Chief Medical Officer
on the illuminar.?

?And what are you doing now?? The nurse asked.

?I am the first officer of the station. I am Commander Solice. A pleasure
to meet you.? Quinna held out her hand in greeting.

The nurse shook Quinna?s hand and then stepped aside, ?Let me see if I can
get someone to help you.?

?Umm Nurse,? Quinna said not knowing her name.?

?Sorry, I am Ensign Lucy Van Pelt,? Lucy answered.

?Ok, Lucy, I think I just want to observe and stay out of the way.? Quinna
said.

?Yes, Ma?am,? Lucy answered and went about her business.

Quinna moved so she was out of the way.

SBFREEDOM-RPG: (7-0900) SFI D.D. Office - SFI Op T'xen Toks-
From: almuir62 at gmail.com (Al Muir)
Date: Sun, 10 Nov 2024 15:23:59 -0800

Mission: Transitions

Day: 7

Stardate: 2446.09.21

(Starbase Freedom - Level 6 - Authorized Diplomatic Level - SFI D.D.
Office - SFI Op T'xen Toks- Deputy Director Michael Weston - 0900)

Michael looked intently at the image on the screen. Director Haines was
not, typically, the type of person to pull pranks but he couldn?t believe
what she had just told him.

?So what you?re telling me is that, although I am supposedly in charge of
SFI operations in this sector, I cannot know why this T?xen Toks is here.?

Haines look showed her frustration almost equaled his. =^=What I?m telling
you is that we don?t really know what he?s doing here. His orders have not
yet crossed my desk. When your dealing with TA that happens more than I
like.=^=

?So how am I supposed to wrangle this guy, if I don?t really know what he?s
up to?? Michael asked.

=^=I know what I?m about to say goes directly against your nature, but at
this point we have to trust the Temporal Affairs know what they?re doing.=^=

Michael couldn?t hold back the snort or disdain. ?Well you got that right
Avril. It does go against my nature. And assuring me of our hopes that
anyone knows what the hell is going on when time travel is involved is?
well? ludicrous.?

He sighed and sat back, ?At least Captain Dahr and I are on the same page.
He?s already shot a warning across Toks? bow on taking things into his own
hands. Perhaps I can deliver a similar message and get a little more out
of him.?

=^=Be careful Michael. These people work under different parameters in
protecting timelines. In some ways, he reminds me of you.=^=

Michael made a face and replied, ?Why does that not comfort me. I?ll keep
you appraised, Director.?

=^=You do that. Haines out.=^=

The screen went blank and Weston stared at it for a moment, contemplating
his next move. With a shrug he decided to go with his gut and stood up.
Time to visit the med center.

(Starbase Freedom - Level 11 - Medical Plaza - Medical Suite - SFI -
Deputy Director Michael Weston and Agent T?xen Toks - 0915)

Weston had a brief conversation with Dr. McCullough and she let him know
that Toks had been moved to a medical suite as his life was no longer in
danger. In fact, his body was about 75% healed. She was quite amazed and
awe?s at the prospect of the Chimeran?s self healing properties.

But he was well aware of the Takaran ability to self heal, and the Vulcan
ability to manipulate their bodies to promote healing at a rapid rate. This
T?xen Toks had both of those, so he was not as awed by it. He was a bit
jealous that he didn?t have it. Perhaps not. It might have made him even
more reckless than he had already been in his youth.

Weston stepped into the suite and waited until the nurse in attendance
noticed him and left the room with a nod. He moved over to the side of the
bed and nodded at the person laying on it.

?How you doing, Mr. Toks?? he asked.

Tols looked at the man as he entered and recognized the look of being sized
up to scans and information. He felt the tissues healing and shrugged.
?Better than I was two days ago.?

?I thought I?d introduce myself,? Michael continued. ?I?m Michael Weston,
Deputy Director of SFI on this sector. Your new boss.?

?How interesting. How kind of you to come yourself for my orientation. Are
you coming to make the threats of ?not on my station!???

Michael chuckled, ?Nope, because I know how fruitless that is. I know how
I?d feel if it were me. Good operatives, the ones worth their salt, have a
healthy defiance of authority. We have to. So this not a who?s is bigger
contest. I?m here to offer my hand and to let you know that you are not on
your own. I?m not a desk jockey, so this being in charge thing is a bit
new.?

Toks nodded. ?How refreshing and very unlike your file. Your doctor/XO has
been good for you,? Toks said with a wink. ?I assume the Captain has made
you aware of the situation then and provided the appropriate code??

Weston gave him a quizzical look at the mention of his ?file.? He had to
wonder what that file said. He?s never been one to openly defy any sense of
teamwork, but he also knew that he was more comfortable on his own. Mostly
so he didn?t put others in danger. But they could explore that later.

?I have,? he said. Then he took a small box out of a hidden pocket and
tapped it. The device beeped then glowed, finally went back to its inert
facade. ?Sorry, just a security precaution. As I see it you?re here to
prevent a death. Nobody seems to know who it is, or who the assailant is,
or even the reason for it. How am I doing so far??

?Spot on. Must be why they gave you the fancy chair,? the takaran stretched
his fingers and flattened them. The medication was wearing off and giving
him more conscious control of his cellular structure. He nodded, satisfied
he?d be able to work again.

?Only that it?s more than one death I am trying to avoid. But one in
particular will have a detrimental effect on the prime time line. The
station itself is in danger in 37% of the timelines. It reappears over and
over as a result if things aren?t handled properly.?

Michael sat down in a chair by the bed and sighed. ?Well, at least that
gives me 63% of the timelines I can move to in order to avoid all of that.?

Toks looked at the assistant director with an expression of sympathy.

?63%? Hmmmm.? Toks took a deep breath. ?Most of the headaches people
inevitably get over temporal mechanics is the fact thait it could be the
galactic definition of counter intuitive.?

He held up his arm and exposed his emerald green skin of his in er
forearm.

?Look here.? He explained and a yellow straight line appeared on his arm.

?This is the prime time line. When we take an action that veers us off
course, an alternate reality is created.? The prime line continues but a
new thread moves upward alongside it.

Next action and next action move us along and the alternate timeline is
sporadic.?

The line showed wide turns and angle shifts.

.?For example, We know that the death of this one person is the prime
timeline shift. Most people think that we shift timelines but the original
is there in an alternate reality. There?s truth to tha.t but if the
alternate timeline reconnects with the prime then the original portion of
the thread fades to nonexistence.?

The alternate line on his arm returned to the prime line. And all of the
straight in between the two points faded away..

Weston looked at the image, more amazed that Toks had a surgical implant
that allowed him to make such demonstrations. He wondered what other
prostheses he possessed. ?So the new timeline becomes, irrevocably, the
new timeline.? He stood up and began to pace. ?See, that?s why I always
stayed away from time travel. It messes with my brain too much.?

Toks took a breath and shook his arm and the yellow lines vanished. ?The
36% appears over and over. if we don?t stop multiple issues at once. TA
doesn?t know what all of those issues are, hence me coming here.?

?That?s the first thing I?ve heard that makes sense,? Michael said. ?So
are you thinking that this can all be prevented by preventing the death of
this one individual??

Toks shrugged. ?I don?t know. I know that you and the captain can stop the
death of the person. They could have sent you the info for that. My job is
to ensure that the murder does not take place, plus the salvation of the
station. TA knows that if I?m not involved Freedom is destroyed and there
are various levels of survivors depending on actions. We take. Each choice
is a different possible future and different survivors. That eradicates
many needed points in the future prime time line. So I can?t do it alone.
And I can?t tell you more without endangering the station.?

Michael sat down and leaned back on his chair thinking about what he?d just
heard. There was nothing like finding out you could be a key player in
something that has already happened in this man?s mind, but had no idea
what it could be.

Finally he let out a slow breath and leaned forward, ?Well I don?t like the
prospect of Freedom being destroyed, especially since I just hung some
pictures on the wall of my quarters. So I suppose I?m just going to have to
go against my nature and trust you.?

He stood up and offered his hand to the TA agent, ?I once saw a movie with
two very good friends and this reminds of a line. It?s between two
characters who don?t really trust one another but come to an understanding.
This looks like the beginning of a beautiful friendship.?

?It sounds very??human,? T?xen Leaned back and rubbed his arm. ?You know I
was specifically picked at the academy for my takaran skills. Body
manipulation, my ancestral memory, but they were very disappointed with my
lack of Vulcan and Betazoid telepathy. I only get impressions, intuitive
understanding of people. And I say that to tell you I get the impression
you understand the problems of my particular service to SFI better than
most could. You?ve nearly died multiple times, ? he paused, giving an
honestly confused look, ?or is that you will nearly? Both??

Michael raised an eyebrow at that. He had, indeed, danced with death on
several occasions, including once being saved by Quinna Solice. He wondered
if the TA operative was aware of the several near death experiences he?d
had in the parallel universe while commanding the Odyssey.

?Will?? he asked. ?That sounds ominous.?

He shook his head. ?This job is timey whimey according to those who really
know. Thank you in advance for the trust. I will need it.?

Michael nodded. ?Let?s just make sure you earn it,? he said with an air of
seriousness. ?Meanwhile, if your ancestors give you any insight into who
we should be concerned about let me know.?

?I?ve been asking. I?ll let you know.?

As Michael turned to leave Dr. McCullogh walked. ?It?s about time,? she
groused. Then she moved to the bed. She took a quick scan of Toks and
nodded. ?As I suspected. You are healthy enough to stop occupying a bed
for sick people. You are free to go Mr. Toks, but if you feel any more
pain over a level? she narrowed her eyes and scanned him with them, ?4 then
I want to see you. I also want to see you tomorrow by 1000 hours. Is that
clear. Or I?ll have you hauled in here and keep you in an isolation room.?

T?Xen stepped out of the medical ward and into a larger than usual hall, likely for transport bio beds, and looked at signage to find the nearest turbo lift. His body was lighter from the repairs and removal of dangerously poisoned portions and he felt a need to correct the mass imbalance. But duty always came first
?Are you ok my girl?? He asked quietly.

There was a slight pause: =^= Doing much better and auto repairs are nearly complete. =^= the computer voice of the Marai responded. =^= more importantly how are you? I see they didn?t find the sub cranial crybernetic link=^=

?They don?t have the technology yet. Any news?? He asked as he made his way on the lift.
?Restaurant,?

=^=Please select specific restaurant?=^= The computer of the station prompted.

T?xen tsked. ?Restaurant level.?

The elevators acknowledgement signal chirped and the doors shut to whisk him away.

=^= the Doctor is reading your new scans as we speak, she wonders what the doctors were doing with you,=^=

T?xen almost chuckled.
?Is my contact here yet??

=^= Not that we are aware. The signal has not been received.

T?xen felt the vibration of the lift speed through the shaft. ?They?re late then. They may have thought we bailed.?

=^= Or they may not have made it.=^=

?That would be?..inconvenient,? he admitted as the door slid open. Two security guards stared at him hard.

He looked at them. ?Restaurant level?? He asked again feigning ignorance.

The parted.
?Down the hall to the left,?

As they boarded one said in irritation, ?tourists.?

There was a chuckle by the ships AI.
=^= Tourists! There?s a 76.327% probability he will?.=^=

?Marai,? he chastised never tell me someone?s odds. It makes it harder to try to save them all.?

SBFREEDOM-RPG: (7-1845) Turbo Lift AU
From: almuir62 at gmail.com (Al Muir)
Date: Sat, 23 Nov 2024 13:25:30 -0800

Mission: Transitions

Day: 7

Stardate: 2446.09.21

(Starbase Freedom - Hub Turbo Lift - Between Module 4 & 5 - Turbo Lift AI
- 1845)

The need of an AI on the turbo lift had become apparent during the early
days of the Starbase. It was the one system that had to interact with of
the other systems from all of the races that had created Freedom. It also
needed to be able to make independent decisions based on station protocols.
To this date the turbo lift had saved thirty-eight lives. Sometimes by
independently choosing to stop working.

Of course the engineering team did not always appreciate those choices
since system resets had to be employed. Sometimes other systems had
problems that affected the turbo lift outside of its given parameters. The
protocol was to shut down the turbo lift to avoid injury or death.
Sometimes the engineers blamed the turbo lift on these breakdowns, not
realizing that they were a symptom of a bigger problem.

However, recently, the turbo lift had been able to function without
incident. Then it became the AI?s job to ensure the occupants were
delivered to where they needed to be. Once in a while, even when they
didn?t know where they needed to be.

Today was one of those days. The entity that entered the turbo lift had a
bio signature that the AI was unfamiliar with. But it had the protocol to
find out as much as it could about the entity. Scans were employed.

The combination of species was unfamiliar. This was something new. Deeper
scans were required. He did note there there was some kind of subspace
radiation occurring around it. Perhaps some kind communications. The AI
wondered if it was attempting to communicate with it.

Then it said, ?Restaurant.?

The AI paused for a moment waiting for more information.

=^=Please select a specific restaurant?=^=

?Restaurant level,? the being said, as if that made it more clear.

Since there were restaurants at all three levels of the promenade it made
the compliance to the request difficult. It decided that the turbo lift
would stop at each level of the promenade until the sentient stepped off.

At level 14 there were three restaurants, so it stopped and opened the
doors. Two security officers stepped on and the being looked at them.

?Restaurant level?? it asked.

?Down the hall and to the left,? one of the security men said after a
moment.

It was an odd direction as the promenade was built in a circle with a
central concourse between the turbo lift and all shops. Going to the left
directly was an unnecessary direction. However it seemed to be sufficient
for the being who exited.

?Tourists,? the security officer scoffed to his partner, who gave a snort
of a laugh.

=^= Tourists!=^= the AI retorted, mimicking the man?s attitude. =^= There?s
a 76.327% probability he will still get lost.=^=

As the doors closed the sense of the subspace radiation dissipated.
Curiosity was not in its programming but security was. It sent a message to
the station?s security systems with a full report of the scans.
