[ “Station Log, Stardate, Two-four-four-six-oh-seven-two-eight-point
nine-three Chief Engineer Gutierrez, Acting Station Commander recording. To
put it mildly, we’re in a bad way. Yesterday at approximately 0800 hours an
imbalance was noted in reactor three’s deuterium fuel tank. Shut down and
purge was ordered on the tank and reactor as per standard protocol, only to
have that reactor and tank explode unexpectedly. Station Commander Syssiab
Th'avhanas was killed with the explosion of reactor two. Every conceivable
means to remedy the problem have failed after multiple attempts. Sealing
the tanks off from the station and leaving them alone seem to be the only
course of action as they have not exploded yet. Auxiliary power has been
rendered fifty percent inoperative; the remaining working generators have
been shunted to structural integrity, leaving the station on backup
batteries, which will fail in two hours. Structural integrity is at seventy
five percent and holding, after the Auxiliary power gives we’re down to the
strength of duranium and our prayers. I will order the remaining forty
percent of the crew to emergency shelters. Even if the station's structural
integrity gives way, the emergency shelters are built to survive anything
short of re-entry or weapons fire. I will order regular reports from the
intact shelters, and after this log, I will send out the log buoy with an
automated distress signal. I can’t bear asking for help and potentially
getting no response for the fourteen days our shelters should last. End

(Starbase Freedom - Main Operations- CO - Captain Casian Dahr - 0705)
It was always hard to say that there was nothing happening on a starbase
like Freedom. It was more correct to say that nothing… strange or out of
the ordinary was happening. And Casian was enjoying the moment.
“Captain,” Ensign Meucci, the Caitian communications officer called out in
her melodic voice, “in coming call from the USS Trrrilpa.”
Dahr raised a questioning eyebrow, “Trillpa?”
“Yes, sirrr,” she replied. “It’s Vice Admiral Sullivan.”
“From Internal Affairs?” Now he was really surprised. “So much for my
uneventful day. Put it through to my office.”
He sat down behind his desk and activated the holographic display to appear
over it. Then he tapped the flashing red sensor and the image of the the
Vice Admiral appeared.
“Admiral Sullivan,” Dahr said with a nod. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
=^=Starbase Freedom.... greetings. I'm requesting an audience with your
command team.=^=
“Indeed?” Dahr said. “I’m sorry to phrase it this way, Admiral, but is
there a problem?”
=^=It is a matter that requires conversing in person, not over subspace.=^=
“Sounds pretty serious,” Dahr said. “I will make my team available at your
earliest convenience. Just give me a time.”
(reply Sullivan)
When Vice Admiral closed the channel Casian opened up his own. “Dahr to all
senior staff, there will be a meeting in the conference room in one hour.
Dahr out.”

=^= Sounds pretty serious, I will make my team available at your earliest
convenience. Just give me a time.=^=
"One hour, Captain, your conference room. Sullivan out. " T'Larah said,
then closed the channel.
"Ops, upload the Hades logs, flag them so only myself and Captain Dahr can
access them." she ordered.
"Very well, ma'am." the OPS said.
"I'll be at the station until further notice. Number one, you have the
ship, I expect her to be here when I get back."
(Reply none)
(Starbase Freedom - Conference Room - Chief Internal Affairs - V. Adm.
T'Larah Sullivan - 0800)
The security team had escorted her without incident. She could tell the
young officers had never seen an Admiral outside of their commencement
address at the academy, or it could be the Vulcan woman's mantle of being
the Chief of Internal Affairs. A title that certainly hadn't won her many
friends. Their overly stiff posture and trying to hide fidgeting with
uniform pieces to ensure everything was in place was a dead give away of
the officers' nervousness.
"Post up outside the conference room." T'Larah ordered. "Only allow your
Command team to enter."
The pair somehow snapped up stiffer. "Yes, ma'am!"
Once the security detail left, T'Larah addressed the computer. "Computer,
open the Hades logs previously transferred to the station from USS Trillpa.
Authorization Sullivan veh stehkuh alpha naukuh."
(Reply Computer)
The Admiral then waited for the arrival of Captain Dahr and his staff, she
began organizing the log excerpts into points for her briefing.

The AI analyzed the Vice Admiral’s voice and language, once satisfied the
female voice replied. [Voice print and authorization code recognized.
Na'shaya tor el'es, Shaltra-lan Sullivan.]
Dahr entered hearing the AI speaking Vulcan. He shook his head. “Stop
showing off Maggie.” The engineers had named the AI Maggie. He discovered
it was a reference to an Earth icon Marta Hari, whose real name was
Margaretha, Maggie for short.
[I am programmed to communicate in the native language of over a thousand
species, Captain Dahr. I do not consider that showing off.]
Casian was not going to get caught up in another debate with the AI. He
turned his attention to the Vulcan at the table.
“Vice Admiral Sullivan,” he said, coming around the table and offering his
hand. “Captain Casian Dahr. As Maggie said, welcome to Freedom.”
(reply Sullivan)
The next to enter were Hank Samuels and Zerin. Dahr smiled at the pair and
looked at Sullivan.
“My Chief of Security, Lt. Samuels and my Chief Engineer, Lt. Commander
Zerin. Gentlemen, this is Vice Admiral Sullivan.”
“Ma’am,” Hank nodded.
Zerin smiled and gave a traditional Vulcan salute and greeting, “Vice
Admiral, live long and prosper.”

(Starbase Freedom –Promenade – CPO - Nurse - Ewan McDonald - 0802)
Ewan sat down at the table and placed his food in front ofhim. The woman who was also sitting at the table looked up and smiled at him.
“It’s not like home but it’s one of the better establishmentson the station for human food at least.”
Ewan nodded.
“Have you tried other places on the promenade?”
She smiled.
“Yes, we come through here often at the moment and have triedmost of the eateries here. If you have time, there is a nice little Trill placethat I heard is good.”
He nodded to the padd that she had beside her own breakfast.
“So Sis going anywhere interesting?” His sisters ship haddocked a few days go but they had both been busy with their respective work andthis had been the first time that they had the opportunity to see each other. He stifled a yawn but she spotted it a grinned.
“Night shifts?”
He nodded He had just finished a rotation of night shifts andwas now doing his obligatory change to days. All he had to do now was to stayawake until this evening with out naps and he would hopefully push his bodykicking and screaming back into a day cycle.
“Yes. They were not too bad just long. A few minor thingshere and there but nothing we could not handle.”
“That’s good to know.”
He sipped his drink enjoying the caffeine boost that slowlybegan to percolate through his body.
“How’s the ship?”
He saw his sister’s face light up at the mention of her ship. She loved that ship like it was her own child which he was not surprised as shewas its master.
“It was a bumpy ride one the return leg. I am not sure thatthe chief will speak to me for a while.”
Ewan made a face.
“That bad?”
“Yes got caught in an Ion storm that appeared from nowhere. We were lucky that we did not have to get a tug out to get us in, but the chieftells me everything is doable with a little help from the yards. We should beable to leave soon and can make up the time we were here. Reading between thelines the chief has been able to get things on his niggle list while we havebeen here but won’t admit to it.”
Ewan smiled.
“The chief loves her almost as much as you do.”
“Yep. I think sometimes the chief only lets me borrow her forthe work we do rather than being one of the keel plate owners.”
Ewan yawned again.
“Come on little brother eat your breakfast. Every time youyawn, I think I am going to be swallowed by a back hole.”
Ewan grinned back at the remark and began to dig into hisfood.

“Vice Admiral Sullivan,” he said, coming around the table and offering his
hand. “Captain Casian Dahr. As Maggie said, welcome to Freedom.”
The Vulcan woman made no moves to shake the Captain's hand. She didn't want
touch telepathy to inadvertently share one of the Captain's private
thoughts with her. "Thank you for your hospitality, Captain and on such
short notice."
She nodded to the Chief of Security, and returned the split hand salute to
the smiling Vulcan. "Peace and long life to you."
"Will your First Officer be joining us, Captain?" the Admiral inquired. She
didn't want to micro-manage a storied Captain on his own station. If they
had a valid reason for not showing she wasn't going to demand attendance.
To be fair the fewer people that were informed, the better for her
purposes.
(Reply Cpt. Dahr)
"We have enough to begin." Sullivan started. "If any other personnel manage
to steal away from their duties, we can catch them up. If she can't then
you may back-brief her."
(Reply Cpt. Dahr)
"As a preamble," the Admiral warned, "with the exception of your First
Officer the contents of this brief are on a need to know basis. Is that
understood?"

"I've spent a few years as a flag officer now. I am aware on how it could
affect my perspective, so I am using your command crew as a reasonable

Ire stood at one of the Promenade large view ports lookingout over the docking bay as the starships arrived and departed the starbase. Hewatched as a bulk freighter maneuvered on to its final approach to the dockingbay while a starfleet starship departed from another one.
“I wonder where it’s going?”
Ire turned to look a woman who was standing next to him.
“Excuse me?”
She smiled at him before looking back out the window. “Thatone.” She pointed to the departing Starfleet ship. “I wonder where it isgoing?”
He looked back.
“Could be many things. From a patrol of the surrounding areato a deep space survey mission.”
“I hope they go to explore strange new worlds; to seek outnew life and new civilizations; to boldly go where no one has gone before.”
Ire smiled at the recounting of the saying which has sent manya member of star fleet into the black.
“The academy is always looking for people who seek the nexthorizon and the unknown.”
The woman smiled. “Are you trying to recruit me?”
He indicated at his uniform and smiled back.
“It worked for me.”
She nodded.
“Not at this time but never say never.”
Ire nodded at that.
“I must go now. Thank you for the chat.”
Before Ire could say anything, the woman had disappeared intothe throng of people moving along the promenade. He scanned the crowd for a fewmoments before giving up and looking back out the view port.

Sullivan's eyes caught the Commander slipping in. Her face matched the one
on the personnel file; it could only be the station's Executive Officer,
Commander Solice.
"Thanks for joining us, Commander." the Admiral said without malice. "I
understand I've unceremoniously imposed myself over your normal duties. I
thank you for your cooperation."
(Reply Solice)
"We are here to discuss a mission recently completed by the USS Hades, a
ship recently docked at your station." T'Larah began. "Before we begin, do
any of you have prior dealings, business or personal relationships with any
of the members of the crew?"
(Reply Dahr, Samuels, Zerin)
"Attending a dinner hosted in the Station Commander's quarters..."
T'Larah thought for a moment. "..that event alone shouldn't cause undue
bias."
(Reply Solice)
"Class of Forty-four?" T'Larah confirmed, "Which three?"
(Reply Solice)
"I see. Two of those are of utmost importance to the following. Did you
take many classes with any of them? Would you describe your relationship as
close?"

HADESRPG: (1-0811) Captain Casian Dahr

Mission: Sequester
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.09.03
(Starbase Freedom - Level 2 - Conference Room - CO - Captain Casian Dahr -
0811)
“Will your first officer be joining us?” Sullivan asked.
Dahr nodded, but looked at Sullivan harshly, “That is her intention, Vice
Admiral. However this station requires duties to be performed and sadly we
cannot always just stop what we’re doing. She will be here as soon as she
can.”
"We have enough to begin." Sullivan started. "If any other personnel manage
to steal away from their duties, we can catch them up. If she can't then
you may back-brief her."
Dahr was not appreciative of the Admiral’s tone. Perhaps it was because of
her Vulcan heritage. They can often be disrespectful without intention. But
that reasoning did not irritate him any less.
"As a preamble," the Admiral warned, "with the exception of your First
Officer the contents of this brief are on a need to know basis. Is that
understood?"
There was a round of agreements and Dahr noticed Quinna coming in. He
smiled and indicated to the seat next to him.
"I've spent a few years as a flag officer now. I am aware on how it could
affect my perspective, so I am using your command crew as a reasonable
person standard. Trying to determine if another crew's actions are what a
reasonable officer would do in their position."
~Reasonable?~ Dahr thought. ~That’s an interesting choice of words.~ but he
kept that thought to himself. Sullivan addressed the arrival the XO and
Dahr interrupted the flow.
“Admiral,” he called out, “what kind of action would you be asking us to
judge being… reasonable.”
She began. "We are here to discuss a mission recently completed by the USS
Hades, a ship recently docked at your station. Before we begin, do any of
you have prior dealings, business or personal relationships with any of the
members of the crew?"
Dahr shrugged, “We’ve met with the command crew, had dinner with them. I’m
certain the weeks that they’ve been here we’ve all had opportunities to
talk to them. As far as personal relationships, I can’t say they’ve been
here long enough for that.”
Hank sat up, “I’ve taken the opportunity to speak with many of the crew,
especially their security personnel and their chief of security, Lt. Dogan.
But as far as a personal relationship, I’m not sure I’d go that far.”
“Why would that matter, Vice Admiral” asked, being a practical Vulcan.
"Attending a dinner hosted in the Station Commander's quarters..." T'Larah
thought for a moment. "..that event alone shouldn't cause undue bias."
Dahr was confused, “Bias? I’m with Zerin. Why is any of this pertinent.

HADESRPG: (1 - 0814) V.Adm. Sullivan, Captain Dahr, Commander Solice, Lt. Samuels, Lt.Cmdr. Zerin
From: docholladay2021 at gmail.com (Todd Holladay)
Date: Mon, 25 Aug 2025 21:21:30 -0500
Mission: Sequester
Day: 1
Stardate: 2446.09.03
(Starbase Freedom - Level 2 - Conference Room - V.Adm. T’Larah Sullivan,
Captain Casian Dahr, Commander Quinna Solice, Lt. Hank Samuels, Lt.
Commander Zerin - 0814)
“I had no lasting relationships from the Academy, except from those I
served with on the Illuminar.” Solice stated.
To T’Larah, the Commander seemed honest. Quinna asked further, “Is there an
issue with our graduating class?”
“No, Commander,” the Admiral answered. “No issues with the class. I’m
trying to establish a baseline for bias. Of which I’ve determined there is
no more than would be expected. I want your responses and opinions to be as
neutral as possible.”
“Of course, Sir.” Quinna affirmed
“I don’t see why you expect anything less,” Dahr assured her.
“Now that’s out of the way I will begin,” T’Larah stated. She pulled up a
picture of a Regula class research station with a purplish nebula in three
fourths of the background, labelled Outpost Forty Seven. “On Stardate
‘Zero-Seven-point-two-eight at approximately twenty three hundred hours
local time Research Outpost Forty Seven in the Beta Quadrant began
transmitting a distress call. The Hades was pulled out of Space Dock early
to respond. Forty Seven was tasked with research that was too sensitive to
sustain inside or around warp bubbles. The station had no warp core. She
was sustained by six very large deuterium fusion reactors and a smattering
of back up reactors.”
Zerin stood up to get a closer look at the image. It was odd that there was
only a two dimensional picture of the station rather holographic so that he
could get a good look at all the angles. He imagined the difficulties of
towing such a large station to such a remote area. The only word he could
get out was, “Intriging.”
“On approach, the Hades received the log buoy, which contained the
following final log.” The station still photograph was replaced with a
video file. The face of a tanned human with short cut hair, two solid pips
and one hollow on his collar. His eyes had a hollowness and posture looked
like he hadn’t slept for at least a day if not longer. A short rough
stubble had grown on his face.
His voice nearly cracked when he began to speak.
End
Recording.” ]
Zerin looked at Hank Samuels and whistled. Hank nodded at the Vulcan’s
sentiment. “That didn’t sound good.”
Thinking of what she had just watched, many questions went through Quinna’s
brain. Did Hades check out these shelters? What did this have to do with
the members of the Hades she went through the academy with? Quinna did the
math in her head, noting it was 35 days ago. Though she was eager to know
these answers, she just made notes on her traditional PADD and waited for
more.
Dahr joined Zerin at the image and traced the outline of the station,
pausing at where he imagined the deuterium fusion generators would be. He
shook his head.
“They were lucky to have fourteen days,” he said. “I imagine the bigger
problem was ensuring there wasn’t a cascade failure between the other
generators. What was the time differential between receiving the signal
from the buoy and the arrival of the Hades on scene?”
“Would you like to see the overall mission timeline?” T’Larah asked.
“Only if it would help me understand what happened and what you need from
us, Admiral,” Dahr replied.
“To answer your question, the buoy was encountered twenty-three and fifty
hours on stardate ‘zero-seven-point-three zero, brought aboard and
analyzed. Shortly thereafter, arriving at the station, approximately zero
seven thirty five the next day. So, less than eight hours. She was
travelling at high warp.”
“So, if I understand this correctly,” Dahr had clarified it in his head,
“there should still have been a thirteen-day window before the station’s
power supply ran out? Plenty of time for a rescue operation.”
“All things being equal, Captain, I would agree,” T’Larah stated.
“According to sensor scans conducted by the shuttles involved in the rescue
mission, much of the power was gone by the time the Hades arrived.”
“So what went wrong?” Zerin interjected. “Clearly, the station was
destroyed before that time frame was up.”
“Correct, and your earlier hypothesis was correct. There was a cascade
failure. Much of the station had been vaporized during the fusion reactor
explosions. As were some of the backup food and water rations.” Sullivan
explained. “Once the EPS grid lacked the power to support onboard systems,
replicators failed.”
Zerin nodded, “And soon after that, life support would give out. Hours
might seem like days under those conditions.”
“According to the Hades CMO, Doctor Dural, the majority of casualties
brought over sustained various levels of malnutrition, dehydration, and
radiation sickness,” the Admiral explained. “Some, of course, worse than
others.”
“I recall,” Dahr said. “His medical staff did a great job with them, and if
memory serves, they rescued nearly all the survivors. So what’s the point
of this, if you don’t mind me asking?”
“The point, right,” T’Larah brought up a piece of the Hades log. “The
station was coming apart at the seams, but Hades’ own weapons barrage
destroyed her.”
“I am assuming it was to avoid a cascade effect in the debris. Easier to
collect the pieces and the data.” Quinna said, “And keep the salvage
hunters away.”
“That could be the reason,” the Vulcan woman admitted. “..but why were
chunks of the logs around 1400 deleted?”
“I once heard that nothing is truly deleted. Could Engineering try to
recapture the missing logs?” Quinna asked.
“You make it sound like they were intentionally deleted,” Dahr added. “Are
we sure there was not a technical issue due to their proximity of the
nebula and radiation?”
“That’s something I certainly intend to ask, when I question the Hades
crew.” There was finality to the Admiral’s words, not a threat, a
determined course of action. “This is a copy. So I wouldn’t be able to
restore any original data from the copy, Commander. I'd have to go to the
source.”
“Captain Dahr, do you have any officers or technicians that would be rated
to retrieve deleted data? Determine if it was a radiation or
electromagnetic spike? Computers are not my forte.”
Dahr raised an eyebrow as he thought. “To be honest, Zerin here is the best
engineer I’ve seen. He’s kept this place together through trials and
tribulations.”
The Vulcan smiles, “At least for the most part. But what you need is the
someone verse in quantum computing. That would be our new friend, Ensign
Adams. She’s kind of attached herself to the team integrating the
station’s systems with the AI and has made some marked improvements with
the AI interface.”
Dahr chuckled, “Yes, I believe I’ve experienced some of those
‘improvements’, when the computer addressed me as… honey… I believe it was.”
Zerin nearly spat out the drink of water he’d just taken. “I’ll have a word
with her to tone it down a bit.”
“Or at least make it less familiar,” Dahr suggested. “Commander, I want you
and Ms. Adams to attach yourselves to the Vice Admiral and help her with
whatever she needs.”
“You got it Captain,” Zerin nodded.
“Thank you Commander Zerin, and Ensign Adams, you’ll meet me at the
transporter tomorrow at Oh-Eight-hundred hours, we’ll be beaming over to
the Hades.” Sullivan said.
Zerin nodded but filtered out the sarcastic comment he might have given
Casian. The damn uniform was starting to fit him again.
“And the crew of the Hades?” Dahr asked.
“They were due to leave, I’m revoking their exit privileges. I’ll have the
written order on your desk tonight. Their auxiliary craft are still being
worked on?”
“I have people working on the shuttles right now,” Zerin said. “We’re
supposed to look at the fighter craft next.”
“Then those stay too.” T’Larah stated. “The fighters and shuttles will stay
right where they are.” As some of T’Larah’s human friends would say she’s
playing hardball.
Dahr nodded to his chief engineer, “Let’s see if we can’t drag our heels a
bit there.”
Zerin chuckled, “You know me. The master time waster.”
Then Dahr looked at Sullivan and said, “Is there anything else you need
from Freedom?”
“I don’t believe so, Captain.” T’Larah said. “I’ll meet your officers Zerin
and Adams in the transporter room at Zero-eight-hundred, and if it needs to
be said, this is not a matter for casual discussion. Clear?”
“Of course,” the captain answered.
“Thank you for your time, I’ll see myself out.” T’Larah said. She scooped
up her PADD and left.
Casian looked at his staff with a questioning eyebrow and a shrug.

(Starbase Freedom - Level 19, Civilian Berthing Corridors - Archeologist
Dr. Kassandra Jones & Zero - 0820)
Kassandra was in the area for the Archeology Conference on Trill that
started in a few days. She took it upon herself to show up a few days early
to get acquainted with the area. Reserved a pair of quarters on the newly
appointed Starbase Freedom, one for herself, and one for Zero.
She met zero a few years ago when she hired Zero and One, a Binar pair, to
run the book for her digs, translation clerical duties. An accident at a
dig site sometime last year and One perished. The loss of One was a neural
shock to Zero. Too far from Binar to send them home intime, an emergency
cybernetic procedure had to be done, Kassandra volunteered to link herself
with Zero accepting a neural implant in her left parietal lobe. She likens
it to having your kid brother or sister tag along in everything you do.
Zero's voice sounding something like a computerized child did nothing to
dissuade that notion.
"Why exactly did we show up early?" Zero inquired.
"To get the lay of the land before the conferences start...." Kassandra
said off handedly.
"Doctor Jones," Zero chided. "I can feel your emotional state. There's more
to it."
"It's nothing, don't worry about it." Kassandra tried to change the subject.
Zero remembered the approach in the warp shuttle; they were able to see the
outside. "This wouldn't have anything to do with ships outside would it."
"No, not at all," the doctor lied.
Zero's eyes narrowed. He accessed his back up memory on his waist and
brought up the image. "USS Hades......" He held up a finger in a
*gotcha *moment.
"You're here to see that Marine, aren't you?"
"Fine, yes," she admitted. "Are you happy?"
"No," the Binar admitted. "You could have just told me."
"It wasn't just that," she added. "It's why I'm excited about this
conference. I think of it as a bonus."
"That makes sense," he said. "If we enjoy it or not we're linked, we can't
hide anything from each other for long."
"I'm sorry." She said. "Shouldn't happen again. We got some settling in to
do, your room is up there."

HADESRPG: (10-090/0905) Lt. Cal Dogan and Captain Kiera Merek
From: almuir62 at gmail.com (Al Muir)
Date: Sun, 3 Aug 2025 19:14:25 -0700
Mission: The Medusa Dilemma
Day: 10
Stardate:2446.08.07
(USS Hades - Deck 14- CSec Office - Lt. Cal Dogan and Captain Kiera Merek -
0900)
The Security Chief was going through the personnel records of the new
crewmen that arrived and when he got to the engineer he paused. He went
back to reread its service record, and then its personnel records. A
rumbled of dissatisfaction came from deep within him. He should have been
forewarned about having such a being assigned to the ship.
He reached over and tapped his comm unit, “Dogan to Captain Merek, I have
something of great importance to speak with you about. I believe that the
ship could be compromised.”
=^= Compromised? Is this something you can inform me over an open channel,
or do you want to come to my ready room? =^=
Dogan had already pondered that and immediately shot back, “I’d feel more…
comfortable speaking with you in person, in private. I can be in your
ready room in five minutes.”
=^= Very well, see you here in five, Merek out. =^=
(USS Hades - Deck 1- Captain’s Ready Room - Captain Kiera Merek and Lt. Cal
Dogan - 0905)
When Cal arrived at the captain’s ready room he reached out with his free
hand and touched the plate to the door chime.
“Enter,” the Captain said.
The Brikar stepped in as the door opened and nodded. The door closed as he
moved to the desk at the far side of the room.
“Captain,” the Brikar said with his typical growl.
“What's this I hear about a compromise?” Keira asked.
He put the PADD in the desk.”Yes sir,” he said tapping the device to show
the personnel file of their new science officer. “It appears that Starfleet
has sent us a new science officer. Said officer, one Sa’aha Kamat, is a
non-corporeal life form. It does, in fact, have the ability to move
through matter, including into secure areas.”
“They just phased through my ready room door when they reported in.” Keira
said matter-of-factly.
Cal’s eyes narrowed as he attempted to scan the wall with them. “That is
exactly what I am talking about. I cannot guarantee the insecurity of the
ship with such a being on board with no protocols already in place.
“That’s why his first assignment is to work with Commander Jayc and work on
allowing our doors to detect him better, and with Doctor Dural. I’m hoping
with the information gathered from those two senior officers we’ll know
more about solving your problem.” Keira explained.
Cal made a low sound that sounded like a grumble, “That still requires this
Kamat to follow acceptable guidelines of protocols and corporeal behavior
patterns. His personnel file shows a history of that being a problem.”
“We won’t be going anywhere for a while.” Keira said, scrolling through the
calendar of upcoming events for the ship, “ Repairs and reconditioning of
the auxiliary craft will be at least thirty days. Admiral Sullivan from
Internal Affairs is requesting time with a large swath of the crew. Crew
rotations and shore leave round out the list…”
Cal stood in surprise, “Internal Affairs?”
“A whole station was destroyed.” The Captain elaborated further, “ our
records were far from complete. I'd imagine they'd want some answers.”
He was intrigued, uncertain how it was possible for their records to be
incomplete, considering he was in the station as it was falling apart.
“I’m uncertain why they would question the circumstances behind the
station’s destruction.”
“Omega is likely part of it. Depending on if IA knows about it. If she was
unaware then we or more likely I will be looking at charges.”
Cal remembered reading the transcripts of the debrief of Captain Jonathan
Archer upon his return from his mission into the expanse. At that time it
appeared as though someone was looking for someone to blame for losses of
life. It made him wonder who was bringing up these questions. “Why would
they question the results of our mission, with or without knowledge of said
particles?”
“Because a station is destroyed.” Keira answered coolly. “In the old days
Captains who lost their ship, the damage to their reputation was so great,
they never got the privilege to command another. The cost of resources,
labor and time that went into the construction, just gone. The brass are
going to want a reason, answers and we didn't give them any.”
“We cannot give the real cause,” Cal admitted,
“but surely command can intervene?”
“Right now they're requests.” Keira said simply. “With time likely before
we're due to leave they will become demands. I will give the request the
due recourse. For me my priorities are to get our ship up and running, and
mission ready.”
Cal nodded, “In that case, permission to establish security measurements
for our… new crewman. Especially around critical areas.”
“Critical areas?” Keira asked. “They’re an Engineer and need access to
Engineering. Don’t even know if they can pick up a phaser.”
“Or be harmed by one, for that matter,”Cal added.
“Keep our Chief Medical Officer and Science Officer in the loop. Anything
you figure out, share with them, and while you’re at it feel free to at
least talk with our new Midshipman. They may provide some insights.”
Dogan stood silently for a moment as he contemplated the suggestion as well
as the bowled
Order to do nothing but be prepared. As CO it was a wise, and acceptable,
position to take. “I will make an effort to do so immediately.”
“I thank you for bringing me your concerns.” Keira said. “Was there
anything else?”
“No, sir,” Cal stood taller.
“Then carry on, Lieutenant, you’re dismissed.” Keira finished.
Dogan turned and headed out, his mind already working on who he needed to
talk to in order to find, at the least, a containment field that would hold
a non-corporeal, energy being. But first…
Tapping his comm badge he said, “Lt Dogan to Warrant Officer Kamat, I need
to speak with you.”
