Baylon Trinin- 0643) Baylon was nodding his agreement with T'Sol's training schedule for the RRT when he caught sight of Ensign T'Vof out of the corner of his eye. She was smiling as she walked and in that respect reminded him a great deal of Ranae. It was surprising how much he had missed him, although he had heard nothing at all from her since her transfer to the Spectre, several months ago. She hadn't even responded to his messages, which left him wondering if she had found another more suitable person aboard her new posting. Still he always found it interesting how attractive he always found Bajoran women to be. They had a certain grace that lent itself to their strong characters, and Baylon often thought that it was that deadly combination that had often made him weak in the knees. "Good Morning!" she sing-songed as she arrived. T'Sol raised one eyebrow at the melodic greeting before replying flatly, "greetings ensign." Baylon cracked a smile, shifted his Pallus helmet from his hand to the crook of his right arm and replied, "Good morning Miss T'Vof. You seem to be in an excellent mood today. " It didn't take an empath or a telepath to see that was true. "Do you know if the Commander picked a short list, Lt. Trinin?" she asked. "I have no idea, Commander Straton has not selected to share her plans with me. I have no idea how many personnel she's going to train, or in what format the training will happen." "Nor do I," T'Sol added. "I was thinking, should we have anyone trained as a field medic? If we are going to have a Marine-style team on board, it might prove useful." "True, but that's covered." Baylon replied. "By requirement, all Security Personnel serving aboard the Hades are certified Field medics. This is something that Captain Saleke felt was critical after the encounter with the Myenru. Since this team should be comprised mainly of Hades security Personnel, there should be no deficiencies in that department." "I see, well, hopefully we'll all be up to any of the tasks presented." T'Vof added. Baylon nodded. "I have complete confidence in my personnel to handle whatever is thrown at them. " "Statistically, they are well above the minimum requirements for their assignments and are trained more frequently and efficiently to a higher standard than most Starship security forces. We regularly see high efficiency ratings and above average performance reviews in the Hades security department." T'Sol added. Baylon chuckled, "That's T'Sol way of agreeing with you Ensign," he added, the smile still on his face. "I imagine this is not going to be an easy, in any case." Lo'ren commented. "No, I think easy would be an irrational expectation considering the Commander's prior reputation as a marine Commanding Officer. Historically her units have performed better and under the harshest possible conditions and stresses than most others during the civil war. I believe that she is what the human expression refers to as a "hard ass." T'Sol replied. Baylon laughed then. To hear a Vulcan referring to anyone as a 'hard ass' was just too funny to ignore. "Did I say something humorous?" T'Sol asked. "It wasn't so much what you said," Baylon replied, "as it was the way you said it." he said between chuckles. "And how should one have said it exactly?" T'Sol asked genuinely. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades, Holo Deck 2, ATAC Ensign (jg) Lo'ren T'Vof, 0652) The mood was interesting as the new team gathered, most had never expected to be called upon for marine-style training and rumours were flying about Straton. Lo'ren nodded to each new person as they came around the corridor. Lo'ren was attempting to bring her face back to a more normal look. It had split into a wide grin when T'Sol had spoken the words "hard ass" - she could almost imagine her father speaking the same way - and she couldn't wait for the next opportunity for interestingly dry commentary from the Vulcan woman. Baylon obviously wanted to keep a clean presence in front of the FO and checked everyone's gear. When the door opened he called a quick order to donn the Pallas Helmets and made his way into the Holodeck. Lo'ren popped her own helmet on quickly as she fell in behind him. "FALL IN!" The loud marine voice of Eva Straton cut the air and reverberated around the room. Lo'ren wondered momentarily if the Commander had purposely programmed the walls to do that... Time passed as it always did, Lo'ren kept herself steady. Not calling attention to oneself in a lineup was a survival skill when she was a child and she stepped into that pattern frighteningly well. ~Something for the Counsellor, I suppose.~ "AT EASE!" Straton reiterated the purpose and target goals for the team and started in on a description and demonstration of the Mark III-C Marine Rifle. Lo'ren paid attention but didn't strain to memorize anything. She had taken time yesterday evening to review all the weapons and had a decent grasp of each one from that and from her Advanced Training at the Academy. She almost grinned when the Commander mentioned fighting opponents weilding Bat'leths or other such implements. ~At that point I'd drop the gun and go for my own mek'leth.~ Lo'ren watched the precision marksmanship of Straton and then Baylon did a remarkable job of looking like a full-fledged Marine. Lo'ren waited for Straton to call her forward to take up the weapon held out. It was a bit heavier than she was used to, not uncomfortably so, but enough that she would have to do some weight lifting to stop herself from getting fatigued in the long run. The targets came into life and Lo'ren allowed herself only enough mental thought to target and keep alert for anything coming at her from elsewhere - another skill brought up from her early days. /////Flashback\\\\\ (Bajor, Rakantha Province, Electronics Assembly Plant, Childrens' workgroup 5a) The thin girl concentrated on her work. Nimble fingers made the precision, delicate work easier and less likely to cause a Gul to beat you when you screwed up. Right now a Snakeface was patroling the backs of the group, obviously non-plussed that he was relegated to babysitting. ~Snakey wants to go play somewhere else.~ Lo'ren stopped herself from going further with the thought, distraction could equal disaster. The white plasma scar that ran up her arm had taught her that quite well. Glinn Hemesh marched away and Lo'ren kept working, allowing only a small smile as she had avoided injury... this time. \\\\\Return to present day.///// Before she needed to put thought into the action, Lo'ren had a bead on the first target. Each one blinked out of existence as the muzzle of her weapon was locked onto it and the trigger pulled. Only when the last target was gone did Lo'ren open up her concentration. She stepped back from the line and stood stock still, waiting for Straton to relieve her of the Mark III-C. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (USS Hades, Holo Deck 2, FO Commander Eva Straton, 0658) Eva stood within the arch of the deactivated holodeck putting the final touches on the altered marine training program she intended to use in the first training session. She could empathically sense the people beginning to gather outside the holodeck and reinforced her own mental shielding. She'd been working on the program for over an hour making adjustments to the program for the upcoming training. She had reviewed Lt. Trinin's list and decided not to alter it at this time figuring he knew the people in the department better than she did, but that could very well change as the training sessions progressed. She started the program as she put her Pallas helmet on, before unlocking the holo-deck doors. The doors slid open as she walked to the middle of a semi-circle of marine weapons as everyone else filed into the room. (Reply Trinin, T'Vof, Anyone else present) "FALL IN!" Eva shouted loudly as she came to a halt in front of the displayed weapons and assumed parade rest. She watched stoically, silently counting how long it took the security personnel to fall into formation. She then silently counted to 30 watching each member for the slightest twitch or movement. Ready to "AT EASE!" She finally yelled, "Over the next several weeks you will be training with several marine grade heavy weapons to form a heavy weapons squad here on board the Hades. You will train, and become proficient, with each weapon. In time we will progress to full squad combat simulations, but first everyone will need to qualify with all the weapons you see behind me. "Today we will be training with the Marine Phaser Rifle- Mark III-C," She said, as she moved over and picked the rifle up off the pedestal, holding with both hands across her chest as she continued to talk. "The Marine Rifle differs from the standard Mark-3b in several ways. The integral taccorder unit gives greater tactical advantage to a marine than a normal rifle with its targeting capabilities- the taccorder can be adjusted to various settings making it 'identify' various power, life or communications signals. "This makes it possible to detect/suppress enemies that are not yet visible. The design follows principles of the marine pistol. The III-C was specifically reinforced to allow a Marine to use it as weapon against an assailant wielding a Bat'leth or similar weaponry in close quarters, without damaging it. This is another factor in the III-C being heavier than similar Starfleet Rifles. "Statistical Information: Length: 30 in or 76.2cm, weight: 9.9 lbs or 4.5 kg, total energy reserve: 12x10^8 megajoules in hotswappable sarium-krellide pack. Power settings: 1-16 operatable by press buttons on the control panel, or with Pallas Helmet." As she finished she turned her back to the formation moved the rifle to a firing position and a set of six targets appeared and started moving zigzag across the empty space of the room. Eva slowed her breathing, took aim and fired off six rapid shots hitting all six targets. She then turned and held out the rifle. "Lt. Trinin your next, then Ensign T'Vof, then everyone else will get a turn at firing the weapon to ensure they are comfortable firing the weapon before we start stage two of the training," She said, motioning with her head for Lt. Trinin to step forward and take the rifle from her. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Hades - Holodeck 2-- aCTAC/CSEC Lt. Baylon Trinin- 0659) There was some more general small talk before the remainder of the security team selected to attend the training arrived. Baylon was glad to see that the commander had selected not to remove any of his recommendations at this stage. It showed that she valued his opinion on this matter, at least as far as the crew were concerned. Trinin took the time to check everyone's uniform and gear. He wouldn't take the chance that someone wasn't to spec and have Straton burn the entire team for something g that was avoidable. Satisfied that everyone was dressed to regulation and ready, he spoke to each of the members of the team, getting a feel for their mood before the doors to the Holodeck slid open. As the doors started cycling open, Baylon turned to his people, "Helmets on!" he ordered and put his own Pallus helmet on as the squad shuffled into the Holodeck. With the practiced lungs of a Marine MCO, Straton bellowed out a resounding "Fall In!" And Baylon and the others quickly dropped into formation and dared not move a single muscle. A short period of time passed, while Straton sized up the squad before she finally issued the at ease order. Baylon allowed himself to drop into the parade rest that he remembered all too well from his boot days. "Today we will be training with the Marine Phaser Rifle- Mark III-C," She said, as she moved over and picked the rifle up off the pedestal, holding with both hands across her chest as she continued to talk. "The Marine Rifle differs from the standard Mark-3b in several ways." When the targets appeared, Baylon instinctively dropped into a crouched firing position and steadied himself. His time in on Andoria served him well, and Baylon zeroed in on the six moving targets with speed and precision. He fired six shots, each struck the targets head on and he completed the firing sequence and returned to a position of attention, waiting for Straton to order him to turn the weapon over. He knew well enough that no marine would relinquish his weapon with out a direct order from a superior officer, unless of course he was dead and gone. At that point, however, it no longer mattered. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- End compile
