Commander Jackson and took a seat waiting for the meeting to convene. "You're wondering why I asked each of you here today. We are in a most unique and dangerous situation. I'm going to try and ask you specific questions and I want specific answers within your professional restrictions ok?" "As for the Captain, i know you asked about him, but, I need to say this first and foremost. The crew has confidence in him, but, it has suffered since he was taken. They want and need confidence in him. That being said, I don't sense any abnormality in him at the moment. The Chief Engineer's curiosity was quickly satisfied as Commander Jackson got right to the point. ~The Captain and First Officer eh? Not sure I'm qualified for that evaluation, but I can certainly report within the bounds of my expertise. Can't I?~ "Sir, we all have a responsibility to speak up if we feel that it is warranted," concluded the counselor. Brown cleared his throat quietly then took his turn. "Commander, within the bounds of my profession, as you directed the question...Commander Matrix, both during and after the Captain's absence, and Captain Syuvik, since his return, have both given orders consistent with the duties they both hold. Both of them have given technically correct and 'normal' orders, at least to the engineering department." ~To venture a bit astray, or not?~ "This is much more of a psychological topic than a technical or engineering one... but if anything I think the Captain has been a bit more... hesitant, or perhaps tentative in his decision making." He turned toward the counselor for some sort of affirmation or declination. "Almost as though he was lacking a bit in self confidence perhaps?" (Reply Bruce, Any) After considerable discussion, Jackson turned back to Brown. "Chief, what's the technical status of the Soval?" At last, a question Dan could answer with some degree of certainty! "That's a fairly straightforward one, thank you," he replied with a broad smile at Jackson and the others. "Other than the as yet inexplicable gaps in computer function and sensor data during the actual 'transition' from where we were to where we are, the Soval is essentially fully functional. I'm *still* at a loss to explain the sudden disappearance of the damage we had sustained prior to our transition, and frankly that does concern me. Engineering has a few working theories, but for the time being that is all they are, theoretical." He quickly projected a graphic of the ships' status both before and after the event, with the differences highlighted for clarity. "The reason it worries me sir, is that certain of our theories allow for the sudden re-appearance of the damage, much as it suddenly was gone, it is possible it might return... and at a mission critical juncture." He held up his hand, anticipating the next question. "We are working to come up with a single plausible explanation, as we know you and the rest of the command staff need answers, not possibilities. At the moment sir, that's all we have however," he admitted rather candidly. (Reply Any) (Posted by Russ) ============ (USS Soval - Bridge - Ensign Ansia Rozen - 1125) "Ensign, stop. "uh, correct, where am I and who are you?" she asked looking around to the Lieutenant "I'm sorry to say you have been displaced from reality. You are very likely in an alternate reality. The anomaly we have encountered, and perhaps you did too in your reality, seems to cross path with other realities, causing crew members to switch between them. Eleven of our crew members has disappeared, and it would seem another 13 from other reality just appeared here, and you are one of them. It wasn't everyday the FO came into your lab unannounced and demanded playtime with some of the most complex and advanced instrumentation made, especially without an authorized schedule. Days prior, Matrix has created several algorithms to do the lion share of the scanning and processing he needed. The last thing he wanted was a bunch of curious officers and crew personnel looking over his shoulder or pouring over the telemetry results and asking questions. "Sir...I would be amiss of my duties if I didn't insist on assisting you. Perhaps we can schedule whatever you need done..." stated the looming Ensign. "Ensign...I set the schedules and I assure you this is within my prerogative to alter anything you have going on at the moment." interrupted Matrix. I won't be more than an hour." continued Matrix. "But sir...we're running a science package now and if you..." "DISMISSED Ensign!" grunted Matrix. The young ensign blushed, tucked tail and left Matrix alone. ~Good...algorithms loaded, cross checked. Science I and II processing has been saved and paused.~ The encryption algorithm Matrix entered to secure the console and analysis processes had his senior authorization code which should keep the curious out...or at least, he hoped, limit questions. Artificial temporal signatures. That could only mean one thing and now he had definitive proof. The cross checking algorithm still had to scrutinize all of the results, but Matrix was satisfied. If what you say is true, then they are being careful trying to make sure we are not a threat to the ship. How is it possible, you have no idea and you graduated from the academy? use your head, what could have caused this, doh, maybe an anomaly maybe.” she shook her head at him, “does the academy graduate people that can use what they have been taught? geez.” leaning back in her chair again. She thought about her padd she had hidden in her quarters. She had given a good fake to the person that had asked for it hoping they were not smart enough to notice. "I can't imagine why the captain lost patience with you," Alex muttered under his breath. Loud enough for An to hear, he asked "So tell me, how many alternate universes have you visited? You're obviously an expert. Maybe you can put all that time travel experience you have to good use and tell someone how to send us back, hmm?" Trying to prevent a genocide wouldn't allow for much sleep and recreation. So exceptionnally, he allowed the beta shift to finish early today so that his most valuable officers would have the time to relax and sleep and get prepared for what was to come. If that was true for his crew, Syuvik prefered to keep working on the current mission. He was reviewing with his friend and CIO Lieutenant Bates the data on that moment in time. It was not very long after the Quezalth ended their relation with the Federation and asked them to withdraw from the planet. Based on what they knew, the only federation staff that was left now was the few embassy personnel who were closing the building. They had the list of all official embassy personnel. They were about 23 left. If section 31 was indeed the one who perpetrated the genocide, it was likely their operatives were among the 23. Not all of them, but certainly a few. They would need some official people on the ground to ease access to those restricted areas and goes were under cover couldn't go. As a member of Starfleet Intelligence, Syuvik valued Jennifer advice on the matter. But it was going very well. "They all have very normal records. Nothing would suggest affiliation to section 31, or any marginal thoughts or a personnality that would be more prone. I don't think we are going to find our operatives simply by looking at their resume." she said, a bit disappointed the efforts wasn't really rewarding. "I concur. However, knowing those records could help us later on help us make connection that we wouldn't have otherwise." said Syuvik. "But if you would prefer to spend the time at ten forward rather than here, there would be no shame, Jennifer." "For you perhaps not... But I still have fresh in my memory being arrested and accused of genocide. No way I am going to let this happen a second time. I will find the true murderers. I won't be at ease until I do." "Here, look at this one." Syuvik said. "Nah. Too obvious. Everyone made mistakes in their youth. That doesn't make them more prone to section 31." Jennifer said. "No, but that nevertheless means he was lacking focus and discipline when he was younger. That could have led him to follow bad influences, and could be more prone to fall victims to section 31 brainwashing." "You can keep it aside, but I wouldn't put too much hope." she said. "I have no hope, I am merely assessing propensity". They were suddenly interrupted when someone ran at the door. Tom asked. "Ok Tom. Its nice to be able to sit down and have a drink with a few friends once in awhile" Yeates said followed by a smile as he and Hartman Sat down. Tom smiled and greeted his crew mates. "Hello Callum, Alex" Tom said. Ensign Hartman greeted the other two. Thanks for the invitation," Alex said to Yeates as they sat down. "I could really use a little something after the day I've had." He turned and nodded to Jackson. "Hello, Commander. I apologize for all the confusion I caused earlier. Hopefully it won't happen again." Tom chuckled and added "Nothing like a grand entrance Alex". "Yes," Alex smiled, "and that was nothing like one." " To be honest I thought it was a little dramatic" Replied Ensign Yeates with a laught. The three sat and chatted a big - nothing of consequence. Just three friends relaxing. Another crew mate entered and headed over to join the three friends. It was their chief counsellor Cecilia Bruce who ordered herself a drink. "I would like to try one of those,” Red said as she walked in seeing Lt. Commander Jackson with Ensign Yeates, who she saw in sickbay and another Ensign she had not met. Walking over to them she stopped by the two she knew and gave them both a peck on the cheek and extended her hand to the new Ensign. “I am Lt. Looking at the other two, “Ok you guys how are you coming along? It is good for everyone to have time to release their tension.” She thought of asking them about all the new personnel, but, this was a time to relax. "Well I'm still a little confused of the current situation ,What with losing my memory and all. " My First name is Callum" Replied Ensign Yeates "O.k. folks- a ground rule. When we are meeting in a social setting, I prefer using first names - any objections?" Jackson asked. She eyes the Tamarian Frost with suspicion then looks at Ensign Hartmann, Smilling, “Can I trust you that this is a great drink?” Giggiling, “I am just kidding, I am sure I will like it.” She takes a sip and is pleasantly surprised then nods to the ensign letting him know she likes it. Looking at the other two, “Ok you guys how are you coming along? It is good for everyone to have time to release their tension.” She thought of asking them about all the new personnel, but, this was a time to relax. Tom raised his German beer and said in a toast " To good friends and safe voyages". "Hear Hear" Said Ensign Yeates Raising his glass. "Well I'm still a little confused of the current situation ,What with losing my memory and all, But In High Spirits to be gathered here with friends" Ensign Yeates proclaimed raising his glass of vulcan port. Hartman wearily raised his glass. "I'll drink to both of those." He took a sip of his drink and leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. "Glad you like the Frost," he grinned to the counselor. "I find it rather soothing, myself. Mixes well with vodka too." "I agree it is rather soothing indeed" Red replied then sitting herself next to Yeates "ok, what is your first name? handsome." " My First name is Callum" Replied Ensign Yeates "O.k. folks- a ground rule. When we are meeting in a social setting, I prefer using first names - any objections?" Jackson asked. " None what so ever" Replied Ensign Yeates. "Fine by me, as long as you don't call me 'Al'," Hartmann said. "Alexander works, or just Alex." “Agreed, You may call me Red or Cecilia" she answered. "I'd like to know more about each of you beyond what's in your personnel files" Tom asked. "I'll go first" Tom offered. Tom thought for a moment before replying. "I have a most unusual step-dad. He is a Ferengi named Pez. He was once the Grand Negus" Tom added grinning. Red took a second look at Tom then went back to her drink. The counselor part of her wanted to delve more into what Tom had just revealed but this was not the place. “Well, that is interesting. I don’t think I have anything to top that.” she answered then she added, “I brought my daughter with me. Her name is Anastasha.” "No high-ranking politicians in my family either," Alex chuckled, "but we have had at least one pilot per generation, stretching back to the early twentieth century. I'm the first to join Starfleet, though." "Both my parents currently serve in starfleet, my father on the military side and my mother on Mars Orbital Science Station. I studied under the Vulcan Science Council at a young age. My grandfather is a Vice admiral but I will refrain from saying which Vice Admiral" Ensign Yeates Told everyone. Tom asked. Ensign Yeates having the habit to call people by their last names quickly followed with "Ok Tom. Its nice to be able to sit down and have a drink with a few friends once in awhile" and gave smile as he and Hartman Sat down. Tom returned the smiled and greeted his crew mates. "Yes," Alex smiled, "and that was nothing like one." " To be honest I thought it was a little dramatic" Replied Ensign Yeates with a laugh. The three sat and chatted a big - nothing of consequence. Just three friends relaxing. Another crew mate entered and headed over to join the three friends. It was their chief counselor Cecilia Bruce who ordered herself a drink. Besides, we all have a lot of work to do tomorrow.” Red said as she finished off her second drink then putting her glass down. Hartmann asked "I plan on it, standards must be maintained and mine are extremely high." Good," Alex smiled, "I won't disappoint you. Now back to the matter at hand. Is there anything I can help you do with all these PADDs?" She motioned to the PADDs before her. "Dig in all the displaced personnel need to be researched and have a background check to determine whether they are a threat to the Soval or not." She pressed a her PADD a few times making some key notes. Before speaking again. "I have to ask, but what was your reality like. What was going on, I understand that you were new to the Soval but I am curious?" Has she spoke she smiled slyly, tilting her head ever so slightly. This to was part of her duty. Bringing each person is a questioning then about there past or the reality they came from helped to determine each persons threat level. If they come from a reality where the Soval was a rogue ship or worse a ship working for Section 31 would mean anyone from those realities would be harder to trust. But first those people had to be identified, and that was the hard part. In fact, until Ensign Rozen clued me in, I had no idea I wasn't in my own universe anymore." He closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. "I'm not in my own universe anymore," he repeated in a voice just above a whisper. "How did that even happen? When did it happen? I must have flown through the anomaly on my way to my own Soval and wound up on this one." "Well, I suppose there must be some differences," Alex said to Jessica as he picked a PADD from the pile. "I mean, if they were exactly parallel, then this universe's Alex Hartmann would have been headed here at the same time, and as far as I know there's only one of me here. Wait a minute!" A curious smile crossed his face. "Could there be another me somewhere in this universe? Maybe I can meet myself someday!" He turned his attention back to the PADD in his hands. "Anyway, if there's anything specific you'd like to know I'll do my best to fill you in." (Reply Signos) (NRPG: Should any of the PADDs reveal something dangerous about the displaced crew?) Answered Hartmann. Jessica though for a moment it was a tricky area to be in how could she question him about his reality when she was working on a tactical plan to go back Quazlth which could lead to the mass genocide of the local populace. "What political events was your federation engaged in, did the federation civil war happen, was the federation of your reality engaged in battles or skirmishes with other races?" She asked at thoughts lenght. (Reply Hartmann ) Finally she got to the pressing hard questions. "What do you know of Section 31, there opertions, or operatives?" In this her tone turned cold. She needed to know. If Section 31 was the cause of the explosion could it be possible to inplant an agent in the temporal rift anomaly. She watched Hartmann closely his answers did not matter. A Section 31 agent would answer with what she wanted to hear. She was watching him for the small quirks a person exhibits when they are lieing. "Did you," he started, then looked around the room nervously. He leaned in close to Jessica and spoke in a near whisper. "Did you say civil war?" he asked incredulously. "As in Starfleet versus Starfleet? No, we definitely did not have that! We haven't had a real war since we beat back the Dominion. I mean the Borg are always a problem and we're not exactly best friends with the Klingons, Cardassians or Romulans, but we're not openly at war with anyone, especially not Starfleet!" As he resumed checking the PADDs, he absentmindedly grabbed Signos' glass of wine and took a sip. The glass was still on his lips when his eyes widened, suddenly aware of what he'd just done. "S-sorry Chief!" he stammered, setting the glass down. "I'll get you another one!" He hastily stood and made his way to the bar. As the bartender poured a new glass, he ran a sleeve across his brow to wipe off the sweat that suddenly appeared. ~I am so getting kicked off this ship~ he thought as he made his way back to the table. (Reply Signos) (Posted by Tony Dalessio) ============ (USS Soval, Deck 10, Ten Foward , CTO Ensign sg Jessica Signos, 1825) Jessica was lost while Hartmann poorer though the PADDs with data of the new personnel. Jessica was looking over details of the Quazlth capital. She had to be prepared, of any little detail. Because if she missed something it was she that was going to be tried for genocide. A crime that she did not commit but her past made it quite easy for the blame to fall on her shoulders. She reached for her wine hoping to take another sip when to her surprise the glass was gone. She glanced up seeing Hartmann with her cup to his lips. She watched as his eyes went wide with the dawning of what he had accomplished coming clear into his mind. "Sorry Chief" Hartmann stammered, "I'll get you another one!" He spoke quickly trying to escape his embarrassment the words jumbled as he made his way to the bar, at one point Jessica thought he was going to trip over his own feet. It was clear it he was nervous. She waited for Hartmann to return, with the wine. She motioned for him to return to his seat. "You know if you were that thirsty all you had to do was ask." It was an off handed comment. Hartmann needed to relax to feel at ease in his new environment. He was quick to please but if this was all it took for him to loose his cool how would he handle a fire fight. (Reply Hartmann ) "First relax, I am not upset nor angry. This all helps. The only way we can hold together when things get rough is by knowing how we act now. The smallest gestures can make a difference when the timing is right." ( Reply Hartmann ) It was easier said then done has Hartmann was finding out and she chuckled slightly.
