It was rare they disagreed in front of the crew. But this was important and needed to be addressed. Lt. Brown spoke up. Tom spoke his piece at last. "I agree with all of you. How about we explore as we head back to the point where we lost the crewmen originally?" (Reply; Any present) Jackson smiled and went on. (Reply: Any Present) Tom, never much of an intellectual, wanted something to keep them busy. (Reply: None) (Posted by: Bill) ============ (USS Soval, Observation Lounge – CC – Lt.jg – Cecilia Bruce - 1432) It has been a rather busy day for Red. First when she arrived her office, she start organizing the crewmember's files. Ones that had died were place in that file, then ones that were missing were put into another file. Ones that were injured into another and ones that were healthy had their own file. Then she was trying to go through the healthy crewmembers and check each psych profile. She needed to get a feel of the crew for the Captain or FO when they asked. Then the CMO Lt. Commander Noah had stopped by in accordance with his treatment regime. She sat down to talk to him and find out how he was holding up under all the stress. As he talked to her she entered notes into his file. Then she received a call from the FO Commander Mattrix to meet him in Ten Forward. When she arrived he wanted her to help Lt.Commander Jackson put together a party for the crew to try and calm the crew. She agreed to help hoping she could come up with the right things to help. Then Lt.Commander, 2O, Jackson called the FO telling him that the Captain had reappeared and was asking for him. Red decided that a brief meeting with the missing Captain to try and get a read to how he was holding up. She wanted to see if their original Captain had returned in his right mind. She went in to see the Captain after Commander Matrix left and talked briefly with him. Since he was Vulcan it was not easy to get a good reading from him. But, she could feel that what had happened to the crew and his disappearance had affected him. Their discussion was cut short because he had convened a meeting with all department heads. He wanted to get their thoughts as to what had happened and what they thought was the best direction to proceed. As he was briefing them he looked at her as to get her opinion on how they were taking what he'd told them. He had open the floor for anyone that wanted to input their thoughts on the discussion. Lt.Commander Jackson spoke first, she could feel his troubled mind as he did, "Sir, with respect, how are we to know which set of actions to execute? We'll be making hopefully, educated guesses." The entire discussion about time lines and temporal mechanics had always given her headaches and this time was no different. How the Captain answered the 2O confused her even more, so, she kept her attention to what others were saying. Next to speak up was Lt.Commander Noah, the Chief Medical Officer. She watched him lean back with his mind reeling from what Syuvik had just said. She could sense from him that it was bad that they had gone back in time but the ramification that he had just spelt out was enormous. For them to change history just a bit could bring massive changes to the history of what was around them. Pausing for a moment before he spoke, “Sir are you thinking that we could go back and try and stop the explosion that almost destroyed the Quezal home world? You said that there was DNA evidence of us found there at the sight of the explosion.” She looked back at the Captain to listen to his reply The Captain replied, "Since the explosion did occur in our reality, the only interpretation we can make of the Temporal Prime Directive is that we must in no circumstance prevent the explosion from occurring. Preventing it would have irremediable effect on the timeline. However, based on circumstantial information I received from a prior conversation with the director, not only did he met us in the past, but he stated that if it wasn't for our involvement, the explosion would have been a lot worse, which seems to indicate that we will play a role in saving the Quezalth people. Moreover, based on the fact we find our own DNA at the site of the explosion, it indeed seems plausible that we were there because we tried to prevent the explosion. I know, this would also means that some of us would die doing so, but if we are right about all this, then our sacrifices could help thousands of Quezalth to survive. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. However, those are conjectures based on incomplete information. We cannot at this time make a proper decision on the right action and what need to be done. We will need more information. One of our priority should be to understand what exactly lead to the explosion in the first place, which should help us clarify what kind of roles we are supposed to play. I will add, cultivating possibilities are part of the process of improving our knowledge as these possibilities will help guide what our objectives should be and what we should be looking for." Red could feel that the FO hadn't decided what to believe after hearing what the Captain had said and the other opinions. Red agreed with the FO and waited to hear what his opinion was. "Sir...if we allow the explosion to occur...again...don't we risk reliving the same series of events? And if doing so it presents a multidimensional loop? In effect, we could find ourselves reliving this indefinitely and without a defined outcome." asked Matrix "Commander, I don't have the answer, but we can speculate. There is a possibility that our actions lead to alter the reality in a way that we would not travel through time anymore. I personally don't believe this is actually possible, but some theorize that it is possible that our reality in this past cease to exist by such action. We would be caught in a paradox? What does it means? It contradicts logic and this is why I won't theorize because I deny its possibilities. Another hypothesis is that we would not be caught in such loop because we would remain in the past as distinct self from the version of us living here is this time and reality. They will be the one that will be living in six months what we are living now, but they wouldn't be us... at least not 'our' us.After the explosion, we would continue to exist in the same way we are now...with the same linearity. In fact, our other self being send back in time, perhaps we could resume living in this reality in their stead, except we would be six months older that we are supposed to be. I am sure others here see other possibilities?" "Further, if we are responsible for reducing the effects of the explosion, and not knowing any additional details on our part...I would not enjoy repeating history. Perhaps we can consult with a temporal agent? After all we seem to key to this phenomenon." continued Matrix. Red could read that the Captain wasn't sure if he understood the FO or not so he asked. "Commander, are you suggesting we change history and perhaps allow the Quezalth people to live or are you still referring to the loop?" "Lieutenant Brown has been responsible for the lion share of our research...perhaps he has some insight on our next steps. I know he has some theories and working hypothesis on our time travel and we have developed some models on the explosion that put us here. Perhaps that information, tweaked can provide us with some clues." continued Matrix. Red felt that Lt. Brown just might have more of an opinion than the others had as she could feel he didn't like any of the potential courses of actions offered so far. As the FO turned to look at him as everyone did, the Lt. started to speak; "From our research so far, I can give you all the 'how' we came to be where we are -- at least from the purely technical angle -- but not the 'why', at least not empirically." He tapped a short sequence into his PADD until the data was displayed for all to see. "This is an illustrative animation that the science and engineering folks worked up, based on both the data we have, and by hypothesizing what we don't. As you are all aware I suspect by now, we had a rather large data dropout during the actual 'transition' during the event. Virtually unnoticeable from our perception as living beings, but a relatively lengthy gap in sensor and computer terms. I'm told, by the way, that this dropout coincides precisely with the Captain's disappearance, along with our other missing people." The Lt. paused the animation several times for emphasis, illustrating the various data drops and resumptions of sensor and computer function. "Now, I can't as yet determine what caused the event in the nebula, but let's call it a 'detonation' for discussion purposes, okay? The detonation opened an asymmetric rift in the space-time continuum, and we were pushed, pulled, shoved, guided, or drifted, depending on whether one thinks this event was naturally occurring or not." He continued after his brief pause. "At any rate, that's engineering's current best explanation as to how we got here. The bad news is, I don't currently have the ability to answer the 'why we are here' aspect, nor the 'what do we do next'." He glanced at Commander Jackson, considering his comment regarding educated guesses, then went on. "The 'good' news, if we can call it that, is that it is possible, at least in theory, for us to artificially recreate the conditions which opened the rift. With luck, we might just be able to get home." After the Lt. finished, Matrix continued, "Not withstanding our situation and the events you have experienced Captain, we are where we are and I would suggest we need to preserve our ship and crew. Our prime mission is to explore and uphold the values of the Federation, but in the here and now, our responsibility is to our crew and our own well being." Red could feel that the Captain didn't like to contradict his FO. "Commander, Starfleet principles are not circumstantial to a specific time and reality. They are not political principles based on conventions which would not stand in this reality. They are moral principles and moral principles are based on beliefs in their values. If you do believe in them and agree, like I do, they are the most fundamental principles, then whatever the circumstances, they should always be prime and followed. Otherwise, it would introduce an incoherence in the hierarchy of the principles and such incoherence would undermine their very existence. Our lives and our friendship are to be valued, but not as much as those principles so if it comes to a choice, we must uphold Starfleet values and hierarchy even if it means our own sacrifice." Red saw the subtle look he gave her knowing He wanted to know how the crew was reacting if there was a possibility that they would disagree and agree with what his FO said. At the very last the 2O spoke once again, "I agree with all of you. How about we explore as we head back to the point where we lost the crewmen originally?" Jackson smiled and went on. " Frankly all this talk about multiple time lines is giving me a headache. Lets act and do so quickly. " Finally Red decided to speak up to answer the 2O. "let's act I agree on but after more research is done as we return to the spot we lost our crewmembers, so, we might possibly retrieve them." (reply Any) After the Captain finally ended the meeting she made her way to the Captain. (reply any that want to talk to her before she reaches the CO) (posted by Frank) ============ (USS Soval, Observation Lounge, CO Captain Syuvik - 1434) Lieutenant Brown gave an interesting explanation of what happened to the USS Soval. In spite of his young age, the Lieutenant had been an incredibly valuable officier on his ship. His expertise was much appreciated. "This is good news." Syuvik began. "We will have to return to our timeline eventually. Understanding and recreating what happened is key. So great work lieutenant. But for now, it would be premature to return. We still may have a part to play here in the past." (Reply Any) The conversation continued until some tension grew, which made other officers uncomfortable. "I agree with all of you. How about we explore as we head back to the point where we lost the crewmen originally?" Syuvik ackowledged the need to change subject. "You are right commander. We should focus on the here and now. Temporal mechanic was an interesting course at the academy...but no need to lose ourselves into speculations and theory?". Jackson smiled and went on. " Frankly all this talk about multiple time lines is giving me a headache. Lets act and do so quickly. " Tom added. Syuvik nodded in approval. "Investigating the origin could help us both understand what happened to the missing crew members. But we must not lose too much time with our mission. The explosion is scheduled to happen in less than a week and we need more information. Lieutenant Commander Noah, Ensign Andersen had gathered medical analysis of the DNA residues found on the site of the explosion. Now that we know we have throught time, perhaps this information could shed new lights on the data gathered there. Lieutenant Russ, while I need you to help finding our missing crew members, I also need your expertise to better understand the explosion. We must know what triggered it, where our future selves was or will be located in the room and how it happened as accurately as possible. Perhaps this could help us understand our roles in the explosion. Tactical should be able to help you with such task. Fortunately, this time, we will have the opportunity to explore it first hand and before it even happened. So, this time focus more on what we should be trying to explore when we get there...where and when. Commander, anything to add?" (Reply any) (Posted by Nick) ============ (USS Soval – Observation Lounge – CTO Ensign Jessica Signos - 1437) Jessica listened to the conversation around her the situation was complex and difficult. She waited to talk waiting for the proper moment. Jessica looked over the crowd seeing the uncertainty on each face, but that failed to compare with the uncertainty in her heart. She was on the bridge when the captain first reappeared. Even though she knew the captain saw her, the captain said nothing. Now she shared the space of the observation lounge, and she was expected to speak. She knew the Captain had a deep control of his emotions his meditative practice keeping those emotions in check. Jessica like wise had a tight control of her emotions, but her control was instilled though a far harsher training. She stood at the table. "Sir's I understand that the problem before use is complex, and I know there are several even those of us at this table that think I have no right to speak here." She glanced to the Captain. "First, in getting our people back moving back into the anomaly with out first knowing how the anomaly works is the farthest thing from tactically sound. We can not attempt a ln effective rescue if we are putting the entire crew at risk or risking throwing yourself even further out of the timeline. I am not saying that we don't say we need to find our missing crew but we need to be smart about not overly zealous. If we can contact and use the temporal agent to teleport them back. That would be the safest." Jessica took a breath stood silent before talking again she allowed what she said to sink in and watched the faces, the subtle shift in wait that gives people away. "Now as for the thoughts of Qualth. We have to learn more of what's going on planetside. What was forbidden before we can now gain access to. We need to know the facts of what occurred. What lead up to the blast. Finally we can not dismiss the fact the we might of actually detonated the reactor ourselves. We need to reanalize what we know form the future with what we will learn from the past. Finally we need understand that in this time we know that the Romulus are involved here which means the Tal Shair." "Finally as for our missing crew I am going to look into the files of those missing maybe there is a key thread that connects them as to why only those were taken. If we can find something it might help us get them back." She sat down her say was over. The Captain would decide on the course of action. Jessica only hoped it was the right one. (Reply any) (Posted by Matthew Locke ) ============ (USS Soval, Observation Lounge, CO Captain Syuvik - 1440) When Lieutenant Signos jumped in, Syuvik couldn't stop but wonder why the Commander removed her from her cell. There was so much at stake and so much going on, they barely had the time to address the situation. For the most part, he disagreed with her release. However, it was now too late. In the current circumstances, ondoing a decision his FO had made would be a vote of non confidence. And he had to admit, he didn't feel entirely confident, in the circumstances, that his crew would follow him. He had to keep the confidence of his FO, so he had to trust his decision. Moreover, for the immediate, even if she was indeed working for S31, her interest right now was the same as theirs, so she had no reason, for the moment to betray them. But it would probably come eventually, and he needed to have a solution before that time. Yet, it was uneasy place to be. Vulcan acted on knowledge and control. He had neither. While he didn't had the fear of incertitude human had, it was nonetheless hard to act without knowing at all on which basis taking your decisions. Vulcans were not very good at guessing. Yet, all he could do right now were guessing. He needed to rely on his senior staff to help him through this. Despite the feeling of fear, Humans were much better at taking decisions out of guts feeling as they called...and he felt his FO seemed to be much more on top of the situation than he was. "First, in getting our people back moving back into the anomaly with out first knowing how the anomaly works is the farthest thing from tactically sound. That would be the safest." She was right. "We won't be trying to rescue our crewmembers, not yet though. We will be trying to get more information on the anomally and what may have happened to our crew, and for that we need to get closer, yet far enough to remain out of danger. Only once we have a better understanding should we attempt a rescue. Your tactical expertise, as well as the engineering expertise of Lieutenant Russ and the science expertise will be required to carry this task successfully and without danger. I give explicit autorisation to implement any change to our location and shields configuration without going through me as I understand the situation could need a decision very quickly." said Syuvik. "As for the temporal agent, it is my understanding they don't help anyone. They act only to preserve the timeline and intervene only when unregistered events occurs. Though, even then, they don't always intervene. So we must act as if they didn't existed." (Reply any) (Posted by Nick) ============ (USS Soval - Observation Lounge - CEO Lt (jg) Brown - 1445) Brown listened, with a touch of surprise, as the Soval's Tactical Chief jumped into the discussion. Quite forcefully, he thought. He really didn't know Signos all that well, but he supposed her intensity could simply be an indication of her devotion to duty, and the ship. At least he hoped that was the case. He waited as Signos and the Captain exchanged ideas. When there was a pause, he stepped back in. "A couple of comments, if I may?" He glanced around the table and then continued. "First, I should clarify something. I was not suggesting any particular course of action. I just wanted everyone to be aware that if and when the Captain orders it, the option *may* be available to return home." He turned and fixed his gaze on the diminutive tactical officer. "Lieutenant, I'll certainly defer to your tactical expertise, and I rarely think that rushing into any situation is the best course... although I think we can all agree sometimes it's necessary." (Reply Any) "Having said that, there are two other quick points I'd like to make. First -- and I know this is a very unpleasant point -- I think we should at least consider the possibility that this could be a recovery operation, as opposed to a rescue. I certainly won't dwell on that point, because I'm sure we all realize the implication(s) of that distinction." He cleared his throat then went on. "Third and final point. Lieutenant Signos makes a couple of interesting assertions about investigating the blast on Quezal. I feel I need to point out that we need to be exceptionally cautious in that regard. Anything we do, or *don't* do for that matter, puts us on pretty shaky ground, no pun intended. I'm certainly no expert, and perhaps someone can correct me, but aren't we treading awfully close to a causal loop? If the anomaly has something to do with our 'predestined' actions, and if the explosion was/is/will be a factor in that, we run the risk of trapping ourselves in a closed time loop. Don't we?" We are going in the unknown, trying to manipulate something most of us don't understand. We are indeed on shaky ground. This is very risky for ourselves, but even more importantly, for our entire reality. Lieutenant, you seem to have a very good understanding of time traveling. It is clear to me the respect of the timeline is a priority and we need someone that will be able to monitor more closely than any other our actions based on what we know of that timeline. Since, you seem to be the most knowledged officer on the ship on this subject, I therefore put you in charge of that aspect. I'd like to meet with you and Dr. Noah to discuss some concerns I have. Would 15 minutes be convenient? How about the observation lounge?=^= Lt. Cmdr asked. "Yes Commander, I will be there" She answered Commander Jackson thanked her just before cutting the link. She saved and secured the file she had been working on. Commander Matrix had arrived a minute before him and already done the transition with Lieutenant-Commander Jackson. "Very well Tom. Captain, how shall we proceed?" asked Matrix. Syuvik looked at the space in front of him. "We will need to run analysis. I believe this should be a challenging studies for our science team. Speaking of which, where is Ensign Yeates?" (Reply any) Syuvik nodded in acknowledgement and then resumed. "Lieutenant Signos, Commander Jackson, the safety of the ship is your priority to monitor. What is the status of the ship. Are we in safe enough environement to start conduct analysis?" (Reply any) "Then we shall proceed. Lieutenant, about your concerns, reports any change in our status. To recover our crew, we will need to take risks, but I agree there are limits to the risks an entire crew must take for the few, so if it goes beyond an acceptable risk, we will have to abort." Syuvik added. (Reply Signos) "Commander Matrix, let's resume where you left us when the crew disappeared. What were the tests and analysis your run to understand the phenomena at stake.?" (Reply Matrix) (Posted by Nick) ============ (USS Soval, Bridge, FO Commander Matrix - 0710) First officers log star date 2414.05.29. The Soval is on station and preparing to investigate a way to get back to our own time and place. The Captain's unexpected return has caused some suspicions among the crew, myself included. Given our circumstances and method for his disappearance the crew has welcomed his return without further discussion. I am convinced that we have not been infiltrated by some other entity. Captain Syuvik is indeed genuine. I am extremely pleased with Lieutenant Brown's progress and adaptation in his new job responsibilities. I have asked him to feel free to solicit input and direction should he feel it necessary. I am happy with the crews ability to adapt and overcome these hardships. Field promotions aside the command crew has settled back into their former positions of responsibility. I must admit I have taken a backseat to the mission and command duties since Syuvik's return. I have talked at length with Councilor Bruce about crew morale and we're working to keep spirits and motivation high. Commander Jackson's celebration did have a positive impact on morale and I believe we should have frequent outlets for the crew. As for my own issues, my dreams have subsided significantly since talking with the doctor and discussions with Councilor Bruce. I still however, am suffering from a lack of consistent sleep. Hopefully the new information provided by the Captain will progress our mission and we can get back to our own time. Apprehension aside it will be good to be back to a normal and expected routine. "Computer save and close log." Normally, a medical scan would be advised, but Syuvik needed his science officer on the bridge right now. The medical tests would have to wait. "Ensign Yeates. We have traveled about six months back in time and we are still in the Quezal System. We are currently in the vicinity of the anomaly that both caused our travel back in time and the disappearance of some of our crew members. We need to understand better this anomaly to understand where they are gone." Explained Syuvik to try to get the ensign up to speed. (Reply Yeates) "Since our scans can't reveal much about the anomaly, we will have to conduct experiments. I'm thinking we could prepare several probes, all with different settings, and send them in the anomaly in order to try to provoke the same kind of disappearance that happened to our crew members. To recreate the phenomena, it would have been necessary to have the same conditions, but we can't obviously risk the disappearance of other crew members. It would have to be something else which can reciprocate living organism. Perhaps plants from the hydroponic. What are you thoughts ensign. Could it works?" " Any Other Person would tell you it would be impossible, But I'm not just any other person, I studied under the Vulcan Council of Science so I would tell you It's very plausible. Yes a plant from Hydroponics will do fine and there should already be some probes configured for this kind of thing" (Reply Syuvik) (Posted by Yeates) ============ (USS Soval, Bridge, FO Commander Matrix - 0732) Matrix listened to the conversation between Ensign Yeates and Captain Syuvik. The young Ensign was charged with conducting and supervising the research scans of the area. The bridge research station was expanded to include the secondary engineering and operations stations I and II. Astrometrics augmented the scanning stations and the primary and secondary computer cores were authorized to process scanning and telemetry routines over everything except weapon and defensive control and environmental. Matrix set the tertiary cores on standby and had crews replicating additional portable cores if needed. An advantage with a Galaxy class ship with upgraded holodeck and engineering labs on board. "Helm...bring us to 103 Mark 32. Yellow Alert." ordered Matrix. The Soval made the short adjustment with the agility of the Defiant Class and made station keeping and awaited the Captain's orders." "Ensign Yeates...the station is yours. Proceed with your investigation." said Matrix. (Reply Yeates, any) (Posted by Steve) ============ USS Soval, Bridge, ACSO Ensign Yeates - 0735) "Ensign Yeates...the station is yours. Proceed with your investigation." said Commander Matrix. "Aye Sir" Replied the Ensign who then proceeded to man the Science Station on the bridge. Tapping a few buttons on the console in front of him in preparation for the first probe launch. Pausing for a second to tap his comm badge " Bridge to cargo bay 4 prepare the Sample from hydroponics for probe launch" the ensign then continued to make calculations when he got his reply. =/\= ''Cargo bay 4 to bridge, the sample is good to go and the probe has been moved to torpedo bay 1" =/\=. "Excellent" Replied the Ensign. The Ensign input the final calculations needed for the first probe launch. " Launching First probe now with the Hydroponic Sample" at that the ensign launched the probe. Everyone on the bridge watched as the probe zoomed towards the anomaly while the ensign was watching the incoming information. Upon the probe making contact with the anomaly the plant sample disappeared ,though the probe managed to receive information before that happened. Upon reading the console the ensigns face went white. " Commander Matrix, Um i'm not sure how to say this but that's not an anomaly" The Ensign Paused trying to find the right words " It's a .... well i'm not really sure what it is, but for now we can rule out anomaly" The Ensign then tapped a few buttons on the console finding the information he was looking for. " According to the information the probe received before the plant sample disappeared, the was an energy build up which shortly dissipated after the plant sample disappeared. As Strange as it may seem, I believe it was a transport beam" (Reply Matrix) (Posted by Yeates) ============ (USS Soval- Bridge - LCDR Tom Jackson - Day 15 - 1000) Tom sat pondering the current situation they found themselves in. Tired of pausing, he decided to act. Keying a channel, Jackson started his plan. Jackson spoke - "Dr. Noah could you meet with me say, fifteen minutes, I want to get your take on crew status?" (Reply: Noah) "Thanks Doctor - Jackson out" Tom closed the link. Tom considered speaking to the Chief Counselor as well. Opening a channel to Lt. Bruce. Her insights would be valuable. He hadn't had much interaction with her as yet. "Lt. Bruce, this Cmdr. Jackson. I'd like to meet with you and Dr. Noah to discuss some concerns I have. Would 15 minutes be convenient? How about the observation lounge?" Tom asked. (Reply: Bruce) After thanking Bruce, Tom closed the channel. He needed to speak to Ensign Yates and Lt. Brown - he wanted them to explain this mess simply and clearly. Tom turned his console over to the relief officer. He rose and headed to Engineering. (reply: none) (Posted by: Bill) ============ USS Soval - Main Engineering, Deck 36 - CEO Lt (jg) Brown - 1020) Daniel was acutely uncomfortable with the new role -- ancillary duty one might call it -- that he'd been assigned by the Captain two days prior. Time travel made him very anxious, what with all the possible permutations from even the slightest of changes. He only hoped he could help the ship and her crew get back home, and along the way, do the 'right' thing. He'd spent an inordinate amount of time thinking of just what the 'right' thing might be in this case. Given where and when they currently were, the possibilities were pretty staggering. They could 'fix' things, 'change' things... or really mess them up. Possibly creating an entirely new reality, and/or causing untold major and minor havoc with the native (normal?) timeline. Again, time travel was enough to give a person a headache. Speaking of which, he reminded himself that he needed to make it to sickbay for another radiation exposure follow up. The CMO had been checking him daily since his little exposure in the workbee several days ago. He wondered how much longer he'd need to keep the appointments. The medical staff were certainly pleasant and professional, but... one couldn't be too careful, he supposed, especially when dealing with such high doses of radiation. Focusing on his work, he almost missed the blast doors opening from the corridor. He half turned to see someone he didn't recognize striding through the doors like he owned the place. With nary a sideways glance, the tall, thin, olive skinned officer strode into the Chief Engineer's office and sat behind the desk. ~What?~ Brown turned and slowly walked toward the office -- his office -- and stood in the open doorway with incredulity. The officer with dark curly hair, dark eyes, and neatly trimmed mustache seemed quite comfortable sitting behind Daniel's desk. He was muttering and rearranging PADDs and other sundries on the desk. He suddenly seemed to note the presence in the doorway and looked up without a smile. "Report, Lieutenant..." It sounded very much like an order, from someone who sounded accustomed to giving them. "Brown. Lieutenant (jg) Brown. Chief Engineer. And you are?" The seated figure suddenly looked very puzzled indeed. "I am Lieutenant Adim Abu Zhuri, Chief Engineering Officer. Are you in the habit of walking into a department head's office without so much as a by-your-leave?" "I am not. But you seem to be in my office, sir..." he trailed off, not quite sure how to proceed. He paused a beat, then another. Tapping his commbadge, he spoke quietly but firmly. "Engineering to Bridge. This is Lieutenant Brown. I'd like the Captain, First or Second Officer... whoever is immediately available, to please come to Main Engineering. We have... a situation." Almost as an afterthought he added, "I think we might need a security detail as well. We seem to have an intruder aboard. Sort of."
