While he had very limited medical training he was doing his best to assist with coordinating efforts with Tyrell via the message boards and markers now and then. Longfellow had even borrowed some of the conceptual ideas to add to the effectiveness of the netting for the walls and equipment even as he'd worked to get equipment into the Containment Area for the other officer here and there. There had been talk from Gort and Cambridge on using the transporters and he had thought Rain was involved but the static over his suit's systems was getting worse over time and his own efforts to keep systems running had kept him somewhat distracted. Pausing in his work the engineer watched as the Captain walked into Sick Bay and another officer approach him.. "Assistant Counsellor Felicity Wells reporting for duty sir." "Counsellor Wells, can you assist Doctor Cambridge and work together to relocate a number of the sick forward and the rest aft of the ship, Mr Longfellow, shut down the areas of the ship they will pass through.", and then he said adding a quick personal note, "Felicity, we'll talk more later, right now, we have to see about treating these people and saving the ship!" Longfellow nodded as he called up the ship's schematics on his PADD and started to trace pathways along two cooridors as straight as he could get them. "Sir, yes sir," he said quickly to verify the receiving of the order even as he keyed in which areas to shunt control systems away from. Stepping off to the side and away from the Containment Area he tapped his combadge. =/\= Ens Longfellow to Main Engineering, specs on required systems adjustments are being uploaded now," =/\= he said as he touched at the PADD's display. =/\= "We are going to institute a moving blackout in the areas the crew from the Containment Area will be passing through… the CMO used a scrubber team and a sensor team earlier… keep them ready for a decontamination of the areas if those they're under our department but go through Ops and only send them out on the CMO's call.. 'medical emergency' means we assist him," =/\= Hank ordered even as he slipped the PADD into a pocket and started to walk for the door. =/\= "Acknowledged, er.. there are two pathways on here, they're splitting them up," =/\= the crewman asked and Hank nodded without thinking about it. =/\= "Yes, it seems to keep down the total emissions if they are divided up. Start working on replicating chem-lights to put in the corridors to keep the pathways lit and get them up here ASAP," =/\= Hank said as he paused to talk for a moment only to see a woman he didn't recognize rushing towards him. "Mr Longfellow, I'm Felicity I'm here to lend a hand, I don't know the ship very well could you please direct me with the best path to relocate the sick forward." The engineer looked to her without any emotion upon his face as he nodded and slipped the PADD out once more to show her the pathways fore and aft. "Ma'am, the paths are here and here," Longfellow replied as he had the PADD highlight the corridors he'd marked earlier. "We'll put in red laser spotlights along the paths to mark them for your people, but once those that have the nanos go through then we'll have chem-lights in place to take over as the power goes off," he explained quickly. "However, I would firmly suggest checking with Cambridge or at least the medical department on whom he wants where, ma'am," Hank stated firmly. Somehow he'd never fully accepted the medical department as including the councilors. If that was his own feelings in having dealt with the councilors at the Academy or his father's views on them coming through were things that he didn't wish to reflect upon. Ever. "Thanks" she smiled "I'll get onto it right away" Watching her go for a moment Hank then turned and walked out into the corridor as he tapped his combadge once more through his level 1 hazmat uniform. Even as he did he wondered if Cambridge's order that those in the area had to wear them was still in effect. =/\= "Ens Longfellow to Main Engineering, add red laser spotlights to that order," he said as he continued to walk towards the turbolift. (USS Spectre, somewhere just outside Sickbay, ACEO, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 19.05) =/\= "I know she's requesting beds and such to be transferred into those areas.. just do it as quickly as you can and move the stuff up to the deck and we'll take it from there," =/\= Hank muttered over the heavy crackle of static to Main Engineering before tapping his badge to close the channel. Turning he looked to one of the Damage Control teams he had brought into the area. "Help out where you can with the medical department but remember I want that netting up in the effected areas, it may not be stopping it but I'm hoping it's slowing it more then it would be without it," he stated before glancing to the PADD in his hand only to frown slightly as he noted that it was blank. "It's the contamination," said one of the engineers helpfully causing Hank to look at him. Shaking his head the ACEO leaned back against the nearest wall for a moment. "Yes, I know that," he muttered grimly as he considered things then stepped back to watch two of the other crewmen carrying a bed past down the corridor. Blinking he straightened up slightly before turning and running towards the nearest Jefferies Tube Junction area. Startled the Damage Control team watched him go before starting back to work. (USS Spectre, A Jefferies Tube area between decks, ACEO, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 19.10) Tapping at the PADD as it came back on Hank placed it against a panel on the wall to set up the interface between it and the main computer as he worked to lay out a plan. If they could perhaps get all the crew effected into a shuttle with the dampeners in place then they wouldn't have to do anything more then make sure they were set with life support before dropping them off on the planet or somewhere else. Shaking his head at himself for not thinking of it sooner he started to make the notes for the usage of the tractorbeam as an outside source of power/control like the crewmen had used their hands to pick up the bed because it couldn't move on its own. The tractorbeams had been set to lock onto and work around fields before and could work in this case. Finishing with what he was doing he paused. "Computer, run data on current information displayed on the PADD at this location through four test simulations then transfer the data to Ops for review," he ordered. "Sir," called down a voice from above and Hank glanced up the ladder as one of the engineers waved to get his attention. Sighing softly he scrambled up the ladder quickly. The sounds of his movement drowning out the tiny static cracked beep of the computer's response. "What is it now," Hank asked as he started to walk with the other engineer towards one of the heavily effected areas even by the dim greenish glow of the chem-lights. Neither heard it from behind them as the computer station down below reported back. << Main computer core failure. switching to auxiliary units >> (reply any ) (Posted by Mark) (USS Spectre, Sickbay - OPS Lt Gort - 1850) Gort had spent what felt like an age studying the information the computer had now given him on the language codes embedded in the consoles whenever an infected crewmember got too close. His stomach grumbled angrily and he realised he hadn't eaten in hours... Had it really only been hours? From what the computer could tell, there was a definite structure to the symbols left on the console, which meant language, which meant people... and right now that could only mean one thing: Trouble. (USS Spectre, Sickbay - OPS Lt Gort - 1858) "Lt Gort, I need a full update on what is happening to the crew and ANY idea you have on resolving it." The Ferengi swallowed visibly, and inwardly groaned at the news he was about to give, fully realising his appaling diversion from the 58th Rule of Acquisition. ~There is no substitute for success - and this doesn't even come close!~ "Sir, you're not going to like this, but from what I've seen the EM signature is a lot more complex than we'd at first thought. There is definitely some form of language structure being shown on our consoles when the infected get too close. So far I've not found any sign that it lingers after we remove the infected crewmember, but so far we've only seen a very low-power exposure. It's almost like their emitting some form of virus that's over-riding our technology with some other instructions. At the very least the linguistic structure hints at a sentient being being behind this... and I haven't a clue how we stop it once the infected get too strong for forcefields and our other time-buying measures." (Reply Remae) "Sir, there's one other thing. I think I'd be of more use on the bridge monitoring the movement of the infected. I've gotten all the information I need from the infected and the equipment here, and something tells me you're going to need a few more experienced hands up there pretty soon." (Reply Remae, any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, Sickbay - Emergency Medical Hologram - 1855) Instead of taking a seat on the biobed, their Romulan guest glared defiantly into the EMH's eye and stated, "Is your information on Romulan technology and society so out of date that you think I'll be useful -- after I've spent years on a primitive world?" "Madam, my knowledge of Romulan technology is nonexistent except in those areas of specific medical interest. Infact I am programmed with the working medical knowledge of over 200 individual personnel. Now, kindly take your seat on the biobed." Believing the discussion to be over, the EMH turned to reach for a medical tricorder, his gaze leaving the Romulan for a moment.. I've gotten all the information I need from the infected and the equipment here, and something tells me you're going to need a few more experienced hands up there pretty soon." "Very well, report to the Bridge, I'll be up there soon.", he said, dismissing his OPS officer. (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 19.30) "Report Lieutenant.", said Remae looking over at the OPS Officer working on his console. (Reply from Gort) It didn't sound like things were going their way, with system failing across the ship; Remae's options were becoming thin. "Mr Gort, Mr L'Tal, prepare to take the ship down.", said Remae before opening up a channel to the entire ship. "Attention all hands, this is the Captain, before we run out of time, I've decided that our best chance is to land the Spectre on the planet below. This will allow up the time we need to heal our injured and sick, at the sametime we can make repairs to the Spectre herself. The ship was never designed to land but I am sure the ship is up to it, as I am sure all of you are." He paused for a moment. "All hands secure your areas and prepare for a rough ride, Captain out." "Bridge to Ensign Longfellow, Ensign, vent the nacelles and shut down the core and impulse engines." (Reply from Longfellow) Remae looked over at the two officers in front of him. "Gentleman, take us in." Though how effective it would be against the nano is impossible to estimate.~ She was surprised to see Felicity Wells come into Sickbay. ~I"m glad she's making such a quick recovery. I had hoped to take a more active role in helping her adjust.~ Felicity spoke briefly to the Captain, then turned to Dr. Cambridge. And Captain Remae walked into the Containment area, and said: "Commander Lono, we're going to split you up into two groups. Half are going to be placed in the far end of the ship and the other at the other end; it'll buy us a little more time." "Ah. So Gort's experiment with moving us around did have results. I'm glad for anything that will lessen the effect we're having on the ship." "We'll be flying this ship by manual before long. Keep in charge of the infected as best you can, we still may well end up moving you all to the surface." Kahila nodded, then turned to Rain and Pierce. "I think it best if we stay together in one group, for now at least. It will make conferring easier." She saw that Captain Remae was speaking swiftly with Tyrell and Gort for a few moments, before leaving, and that Felicity had also left Sickbay. Longfellow was deeply involved in his own work. Then the Marines in the next Containment unit were released. Kahila went over and explained to them the plan for putting more space between the infected patients. When Felicity came back to Sickbay, she was with a young Ensign who she designated to show one group of the infected to the new containment area. Felicity immediately set to work helping Dr. Cambridge with a patient he was examing. Kahila watched for a moment, impressed with Felicity's way of conducting the exam. ~I'm sure the CMO appreciates her help. Most of the equipment in here must be affected by now.~ Then she said, "Lead the way, Ensign," and fell in behind him, with Rain and Pierce, following along the path marked out with red, and the occasional presence of chem lights. Just after they left Sickbay, the lights flickered, and a few moments later backup systems came on. "The ship's main computer must be contaminated! This will surely mean we'll be taken down to the surface. If the Captain and Bridge crew can find a way to do that. But until we have further orders, we'll need to follow the current plan." reply Rain (USS Spectre, corridor, Kahila Lono, 19:30) As they were to go to the Aft section containment quarters, without benefit of turbolift, they had taken a shortcut through a Jeffries tube, then climbed a ladder to the next deck. Just as the lead Ensign turned a corner, he stopped and gestured for the others to hold still, pulling his phaser from his belt. Kahila glanced swiftly around, and moved closer behind him. "What is it," she whispered. The young man gestured downward. Kahila saw then-- a body lying next to the bulkhead. She saw no one else in the corridor, but told the Ensign, "Stand cover." Then she gestured to Rain to accompany her, and they rushed to the body. "It's the new CSO," she said, as she turned his face into the light. "Rain, I think he's dead." reply Rain, any posted by Josephine Goodman (USS Spectre, Bridge, corridors, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 19.30) The soft green glow from the chem-lights was almost eerie as the areas of corridor winked off while the infected crew moved through. Thankfully the air wouldn't go stale as well although the localized life support was turned off for the moment there were other systems in that were in operational condition nearby and cycling air and heat to the rest. =/\= "Ens Longfellow to Main Engineering," =/\= the young engineer said as he tapped his combadge for good measure. He frowned as the signal came back with static for a moment before he had jogged a few meters back down the corridor once more away from the cleaner teams that were following the pathway they'd laid out. =/\= "… read you… come in Longfellow," =/\= came a voice and Hank shook his head for a moment. =/\= "Give me a status report," =/\= the engineer said as he glanced up and down the corridor. Towards the Containment area the lights had already come back on. He looked down to the PADD he held once more as he eyed the alien symbols upon it for a moment then turned it off. =/\= "Status reports have already been sent to your PADD," =/\= the man reported making Hank shake his head once more with a frown. =/\= "My PADD's offline due to the EM…," he started to explain before his words were cut off. "Medical Emergency from the Aft area of the corridor," called back someone making Hank groan in frustration. "What is it," Hank called back as he stayed where he was so he could contact medical. "They found a body in one of the Jefferies Tubes," the man called out as he ran past Hank. "Notifying the medical department now," the man called back as he continued on. Shaking his head, Hank turned back to go where the man had come from only to stop once more as something came over the general communications. "Attention all hands, this is the Captain, before we run out of time, I've decided that our best chance is to land the Spectre on the planet below. This will allow up the time we need to heal our injured and sick, at the same time we can make repairs to the Spectre herself. The ship was never designed to land but I am sure the ship is up to it, as I am sure all of you are." There was a pause as Hank started to shake his head. "When I get some extra time I'm going to start plans for a retrofit of this thing for landings," he grumbled to himself through gritted teeth. He'd worked on the damage from the last time the ship was 'landed' and that was with access to the full Starbase engineering facilities and a proper staff under him. He listened as the message continued over the system. "All hands secure your areas and prepare for a rough ride, Captain out." Sighing softly Hank turned towards the nearest Jefferies Tube and jogged towards it with a wince at the jarring motion on his joints. It had been a long day already and he ached all over. =/\= "Bridge to Ensign Longfellow, Ensign, vent the nacelles and shut down the core and impulse engines." =/\= Hank almost stopped in his tracks at the order but continued to run to then climb down the ladder in the Jefferies Tube junction. Dropping part of the way past two decks he almost went to the floor as he hit the bottom and his knees threatened not to hold him up anymore. Staggering he clamored down the last two deck's ladders before heading back out into corridor at a staggered jog. =/\= "Ens Longfellow to Main Engineering, prep for venting of the nacelles of all plasma and do so as soon as you can," =/\= he said as he stumbled down the corridor then paused to prop himself up against a wall. Wincing slightly he walked into Main Engineering with a limp as he kept thinking of the Captain's orders again and again. "Reconfigure the IDF for 'jolt mode' and shunt all the power we can into that and the SIF," Hank said as one of the crewmen nodded and started to key in the demands to the warp core. "Nacelles are vented and the plasma is clear," reported one of the crew as she turned around for a moment. "both nacelles have been valved off." "Good. Warp core and the impulse engines are to be shut down as well. Initiate as soon as you can," Hank said and a number of the engineers looked over to him. "The impulse engines? If the impulse engines are off… what do they fly with," someone asked and Hank shook his head. "Um… and if the core is off where do we get power from to do anything at all," someone else asked from the back and Hank slowly looked around the room. "We get it from where we can. The auxiliary power generator should still be running correct and even if we shut down the engines we can still keep the Impulse reactor chambers online and they're enough to keep things going," Hank said as he moved over to the large display board for a moment and glanced over the schematics for the ship. "Get the deflector field ready for the stress it's about to take and turn off the injectors to the core," Hank said firmly. "There are people on that planet below… if we go in with engines at full and venting plasma from the damaged nacelle while in atmosphere then it could have some very bad results. There isn't any time to think up anything better.. now more," he stated as he limped over to the officer on duty post and slipped into the seat as the other officer there moved aside. Glancing up at the warp core Hank frowned for a moment before he started the shutdown as quickly as he could. (reply any ) (Posted by Mark) (USS Spectre, corridor, Kahila Lono, 19:30) The ensign acting as guide for Kahila and Rain had called for help in carrying the body of the CSO back to Sickbay. Kahila watched as two of the crewmen placed the body on a stretcher. Then, Captain Remae's voice came over shipwide communication, powered by the backup systems. He announced: "Attention all hands, this is the Captain, before we run out of time, I've decided that our best chance is to land the Spectre on the planet below. This will allow up the time we need to heal our injured and sick, at the sametime we can make repairs to the Spectre herself. The ship was never designed to land but I am sure the ship is up to it, as I am sure all of you are." Kahila exchanged a surprised glance with Rain. "I'm certainly glad L'Tal has come back on board," Kahila said. "This ship will need all the expertise available. I hadn't expected the Captain to make this decision, but I can see the wisdom of it. I think it's best if we go back to Sickbay too. We might not have time to get to the new containment area. We'll need a secure place to ride out the landing." (reply Rain) Just as they'd managed to manuever the stretcher down a Jeffries Tube, Kahila watched the hurried approach of Ensign Robertson. He said to her: "The new Assistant Counsellor has asked me to find you, there's something she would like you to see." "Thank you Ensign. We're on our way to Sickbay now." (USS Spectre, Sickbay, Kahila Lono,19:48) Kahila immediately went to where Felicity was standing beside a patient; she was quite surprised to see that a blanket had been folded over the woman's eyes. Kahila motioned for Rain to move closer. Felicity said: "This is Claire, She's been convulsing, she was one of the more serious infected, she's calmed now I really need you to take a look at her eyes." "Claire," Kahila said softly. "I'm FO Lono. I need to have a look at your eyes. Dr. Anderson is here also. I know you're frightened. We'll do everything we can to help you." Even before the blanket was gently pulled away, Kahila was startled-- and unnerved-- to see the gleaming light pulsing from her eyes. "If this is caused by the nano infection, it's the first instance I've seen of it. And it's certainly a remarkable change in its manifestation." And she thought ~I can't help but wonder what caused the CSO's death. I just hope that too wasn't caused by the infection.~ She saw that the crewmen had taken the CSO's body into one of the vacant containment areas, so one of the doctors or technicians could start the autopsy. Then, she was nearly thrown off balance as the ship made its first manuever for landing. "We should secure ourselves," she said to the others, noticing that the patient was already strapped to the bed. Then Kahila made her way to a work station, and fastened a safety harness from a supply pack beneath the seat. reply Rain, Felicity, any posted by Josephine Goodman <> USS Spectre, Sickbay, ACOUNS Felicity Wells - 19.45) Felicity had been working as swiftly as possible, realizing that her senses had never been as well tuned before she needed to asses as many of the infected as she had no idea if her heightened abilities would fade. Ensign Robertson was working well with her, as soon as she was ready to move on to the next patient, he was ready to move the previous to the new location. None of the infected were conscious, they lay motionless while she worked on them, there seemed to be different degrees of consciousness, Felicity had found that the worst cases were at a deeper level. "Counsellor Wells" called Robinson She looked up to where Robinson was standing, he was looking down at the young woman she had just graded as serious. "You better get over here and have a look at this counsellor" Felicity bolted over "What's the problem ensign" His eyes were wide as gestured to the patient on the stretcher. The woman was shaking. "She just said something, it was just a whisper I couldn't make out what it was" said ensign Robertson. Felicity kneeled down beside her and put her ear close to the infected woman. The woman's hand flew up and grabbed Felicity's hair pulling her closer. "Please Help me" she uttered, and then let go. "what's her name ensign?" Felicity asked. "Her names Claire" "Claire, if you can hear me open your eyes" Claire's eyelids flickered, then slowly she opened them. "Don't look at her ensign" Claire's eyes were luminating brightly, electrical pulses sparking from the sockets, Felicity had no idea what kind of damage they might do, "Find me a blanket quickly, then go find one of the medical team" Robinson threw Felicity a blanket which she folded and placed over the young woman's eyes, the light was luminating through the blanket but it would do the trick for now until Robinson got some help. "See if you can find Counsellor Lono, I saw her heading off with the assistant medical officer, I think her name is Rain" "Yes I believe they were heading to the aft section containment quarters" he replied. "Hurry ensign I need help here" ordered Felicity. Robinson made his way to the aft section containment quarters, following the path through the jeffries tube. He could hear some activity coming from the next deck, he climbed the ladder to see two other ensigns carrying the new CSO on a stretcher, he was clearly dead, his arm dangling lifelessly, behind them walked Kahila and Rain. Relieved to see them he said breathlessly "The new Assistant Counsellor has asked me to find you, there's something she would like you to see." (Reply Rain Kahila) Claire's body started to shake again, the shaking became so violent that Felicity had to hold her down. ~If I can hold her down for just a little longer the convulsions should subside~ The shaking got worse before it got better and Felicity found it hard hold the woman down.
