I close my eyes and there they are. Crying, screaming for help, but I can’t get to them. Why couldn’t we do more? Why couldn’t I do more?” asked Harv, holding back his tears. At last, a breakthrough. “This is a definite improvement Harv. You’ve stopped asking why you ‘didn’t’ do more. The events were tragic and difficult for all of us, but it seems you’re starting to realise that you did do everything you could. No one holds you, or anyone else on this ship responsible for their deaths,” stated Divon. Harv’s eyes began to water and for an instant it looked like he would break down. “I wanted someone to blame. Some of them were only kids… the same age as my daughter. I couldn’t find anyone to blame, so I blamed myself.” “I know Harv. That’s what I was saying all along. We all had our hearts torn out by the tragedy on that planet… by having to watch those people die on the other side of our own containment fields but we did everything possible. The ship couldn’t go any faster than it did and we couldn’t have been alerted any sooner. It was a horrible event, but in the end, no one is to blame on this ship,” said Divon firmly. He had been working with Harv for six months and now, finally, some progress. “Divon, I know you’ve been transferred to the Spectre. I don’t know how I’m going to cope,” said the man in front of him. “I’m sure you’ll be fine Harv. This ship is filled with counsellors,” said Divon. It was true The Trail of Tears primarily performed humanitarian missions and counsellors were often necessary when transporting victims of disaster. “The Spectre needs me. They have been without a counsellor for some time and many of the crew are… troubled.” It was true, never had he seen a personnel file like that of the Spectre. Almost every senior officer was afflicted with some emotional or psychological disturbance. From what he had heard, the brass was getting concerned that its Captain might have developed a failure complex, making his own predictions of future failure a reality. It was no accident they’d taken a field counsellor from one of the most depressing and busy vessels in the fleet for the Spectre’s new ship’s counsellor. Divon just hoped he could make a difference. Harv looked downcast for a second. Divon couldn’t understand what the issue was, Harv himself was slotted for transfer soon himself. When it came right down to it, no one stayed on the USS Trail of Tears for long. The ship had too difficult a mandate and it would start to erode a person’s will if their duty lasted more than a couple years. In fact, even a couple years could be too long as Harv himself was showing. “Tell me again what your travel plans are,” asked Harv. “Well, the Trail of Tears is docking with Starbase Geneva in the next few days… I’ll wait a couple weeks and then the USS Spectre will take me onboard. They currently don’t have a counsellor. After that, who knows? Patrols I suppose,” said Divon. “Where are you headed again?” “Well, in two months I’ll be transferring to the USS Suzuki, a Nova Class science vessel. Then off surveying I would think,” said Harv. “That will be a good change for you. Some peace and quiet… some time to do the things you enjoy,” said Divon. Harv had found this posting hard, especially the last six months. The evacuation of a planet where there had been a massive radiation leak had sapped Harv’s spirit. Divon had to admit he found that one hard too… dealing with children so irradiated they had to be behind protective screens. Harv nodded for a second, “You’re right Divon. It’s a chance to start over and I’m sure I’ll be fine. Thanks for putting up with me. You will be missed around here.” “Don’t give it a second thought. You’ll all cope, I know you will. I’ll make sure I transfer your file over to a counsellor on the Suzuki. You really should continue talking to someone, its important,” said Divon, nodding to Harv as he got up and adjusted his tunic. “Thanks, I’ll do that, but it won’t be the same. See you later Divon,” said the First Officer of the USS Trail of Tears, Commander Harvey Israd, soon to be Captain of the USS Suzuki. “Yes Sir, have a good day,” replied Divon. Divon would miss this ship, despite its problems and constant pain. There had been successes though too, people saved, psyche’s mended. There was always a feeling of usefulness and that they had made a difference. Divon thought about the dedication plaque: USS Trail of Tears Trojan Class Starfleet Registry NCC 34258 Utopia Planetia Fleet Yards, Mars Twenty-seventh ship of her class. Launched Stardate 2402.08.22 “We shall not vanish before avarice, pain and oppression, as snow before a summer sun.” Divon knew the dedication on that plaque would remain with him for a lifetime. A testimony to what he as a counsellor should aspire to. This ship itself was somewhat of an anomaly. A class of ship originally built to house and move troops, converted to humanitarian goals. Its name became even more ironic, and fitting, by the change of goals. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) Stardate: 2406.10.19 (Starbase Geneva – Promenade – Ensign {SG} Divon Lronen - 1314) Divon walked across the promenade after arriving earlier in the day. He lugged his belongings with him, sparks flew around the station and workmen walked everywhere. Technically the station was not ‘open’ yet. It was going through a refit and a new staff was to be coming aboard. Only Starfleet personnel were really coming aboard at the moment. He moved through the corridors to the habitat area and walked into the cabin that was assigned to him. The officer and Starfleet cabins were in the middle of refit at the moment, something about swapping out soundproofing. Divon didn’t much care, as long as he had a place to sleep. He placed his things on the floor and flung himself on the bed. This would be home for about the next two weeks, give or take, until the USS Spectre arrived. ~This shouldn’t be too bad… no orders, no duties, just a couple weeks to sleep in, to read and to sit back. Maybe a holo-novel or two would be good as well…~ thought Divon, knowing already that he was going to be bored out of his mind. With that thought in the back of his mind, Divon called up the files on the crew of the Spectre again and began making notes. He found himself going back to his own psychological manuals due to the complexity of some of their possible distresses. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) Stardate: 2406.11.06 (USS Spectre: Transporter Room One – Lt. Cmdr Pierce Orde - 1347) A greasy odor greeted Pierce’s nostrils as he materialized onto the transporter pad. Immediately, he went into a defensive stance in the darkness, his hand going down to the tricorder at his side to interface with his tactical glasses when… "Computer, lights," was spoken by the captain and the obedient machine banished the darkness to reveal a mess. ~Now at least God didn’t say ‘Let there be light’ and then have to complain about the mess,~ Pierce mused, eyeing the squalor before him. ~And this is just the transporter room.~ "Hmm, looks like the previous guests of the Spectre haven't treated her very well." “Aye, sir. I feel like we got stuck with the check on this party,” he quipped. Just then, the call for more transports came in and so he shuffled off of the pad. A soft ‘squish’ prompted him to look down and spot his boot firmly placed in the leftovers of some meal left over from a drunken revel… regurgitated. ~If I wasn’t sure that this ship was empty, I’d ask to find someone to keelhaul.~ "Okay, listen up,” the captain ordered, taking command, “I want you all to check the primary systems of your departments, Pierce, do a deck by deck survey of the entire ship and get some of your Security Teams over here to help, that goes for you all, if you have staff on the Mystique, get them over here." “Aye, sir, although I have a bad feeling about what I’m going to find.” “…I want 30 minute report updates. Dismissed.” Remae rushed off to the nearest turbolift. ~And there he goes up to the bridge. Not that I’d blame him – it’s his baby.~ Orde tapped his commbadge. “Orde to Maxwell.” =/\=Maxwell, here, Commander.=/\= “Collect the rest of our shipmates – I need you over here as soon as you can get over here.” =/\=I’m all packed, sir. Be over in five.=/\= “Aye, John. Someone threw a hell of a party over here and left us with the check. Captain’s ordered a full search of the ship, deck by deck. I’d recommend bringing a mop and a bucket.” =/\=Aye, sir. I’ll be right over. Maxwell out.=/\= True to his word, John Maxwell was over within five minutes with a small squad of security officers. “These are all we have, Maxwell?” Pierce asked. “Aye, sir. Very few of us moved over to Mystique.” Pierce nodded. “Alright, then. Break up into teams of two and… watch where you step. Brown and Michaels, you start from Deck Fifteen and move up. John, you and I will work up from Deck 9. Contact me every twenty-five minutes with a report.” His assembled security people nodded and marched off to the lift. (Reply any) (Posted by Lenox) (USS Spectre- CSO's Office- CSO Ronsworth-1357) =^= "Alright here is what I want you to do. I want you to get all your science personnel who are not doing anything at the moment and put them to work cleaning your office and all the science labs. After that's done, I want them to aid the cleaning and maintenance crews, if so needed. As for you I want you to go to engineering and do a full system check of engineering, then report back to me. After that ask the Chief Engineering Officer if there is anything you can help with. That is all." =^= Garry sat back in his chair, "Alright, Ronsworth. out." Garry tapped his commbadge again as he stood up. "Science Personnel, this Acting CSO Ronsworth. As soon as you come aboard get settled into your quarters report to Petty Officer 1st Class Deborah Miller. She will act as ACSO for now. Petty Officer Miller, you're to instruct all science personnel to help Opts personnel in the cleaning of deck four and others. Ronsworth out." Garry received a quick reply from Miller, and then began cleaning his office. He took a few pictures out and placed them on his desk. He quickly dusted the desk and Science station. He then took care of the floor and was finished. Garry headed for the door. (Posted by Bobby P) (USS Spectre- Bridge- Ensign Will Banowsky-1358) Will had just finished talking to Ensign Ronsworth when he looked back at his console. He was sorting through all the members of the crew in his two departments and were busy deciding were to put them to work. Most of the crew should have been aboard by now he was ready to put them to work. "Ensign Banowsky to all Operations and Conning officers. " he said pressing his commbadge. "I have work for all of you. All operations officers are to be put on maintenance and clean up duties. You are to go deck by deck, cleaning the halls and make sure all systems on that deck are operational. The rooms and offices, labs, and quarters will be handled by the people staying there and that department. I want all questions to be directed to me here on the bridge. All Conning officers will head to all the shuttle bays and check every shuttle, runabout and every other flying craft we have onboard. When you are done checking every systems on those crafts I want you to clean the shuttle bays and cargo bays. Petty Officer First Class James Reed will be in charge of the clean up duty done by the Operations officers. Petty Officer First Class Mariola Gonzales you will be in charge of all work done by the CONN officers. I want an update from the two of you at 14.25. Ensign Banowsky out." Will then went to contact all the department heads to find out the status of their duty stations. He pressed his commbadge one more time. "Ensign Banowsky to all department heads. I want to know the status of your duty stations, whether the systems are operational, and whether or not you need a repair team. As far as cleaning your offices, labs, what have you, the cleaning crews are doing decks only, I may be able to spare a few, but I would like it if any of your personnel who are not doing anything would handle the cleaning." (reply department heads) (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre: Deck 10, Corridor – Lt. Cmdr Pierce Orde - 1405) Pierce frowned at the Ops officer’s comm. message. ~If only we knew how bad the damage was,~ he mused. ~And Security is going to have a hell of a time getting anything done until we get to Geneva.~ “Orde to Banowsky,” he said, tapping his commbadge. “Mr. Banowsky, I’ve got my only two officers – Michaels and Brown – checking the ship out, deck by deck. Call them or myself if you require assistance. As for Security – I’m heading there right now to make an assessment.” He silently thanked the Great Bird of the Galaxy for the sheer chance that his limited security staff had enough cross-experience among them to be able to effect repairs to their own department’s equipment if the need arose. She was fairly pretty and young. She reminded him of a girl he used to know and seemed to be a good officer. Will approached her and put his hand on her shoulder. "Gonzales," he said, "I need you to go to prep the shuttle bay for a take off." "Aye sir," she replied "Oh and keep up the good work." Will said. He then walked over to the USS Evangeline. She was a Danube class runabout, kind of dusty and old, but Will thought she was beautiful. Of course he did, he was a pilot. Will was admiring the outside of the shuttle when Garry came up to him. "Hello, Will. Been a heluva day hasn't it? Well this is it then, the USS Evangeline." "Ya it has, and I can't wait to take this beauty out." Will said with excitement in his voice." The crewmen were hauling large containers, scanning things, and fixing this and that. Though the crowd he spotted Banowsky standing next to a fairly old looking Danube class runabout named the USS Evangeline. It was a small dusty looking craft but it was still the best sensor package the Spectre's shuttle fleet had to offer. ~She's a tuff ole gal~ "Hello, Will. Been a heluva day hasn't it? "Open a channel to the Mystique. Captain Winters, Commander Saleke, Bon Voyage - thanks for having us.", he said smiling at the crew of the Mystique's Bridge looking back at him and after a few pleasant words, the channel was closed. Remae thought about engaging the phase cloak, passing through the Mystique would be an experience but he knew that the cloak hadn't been tested thoroughly and materializing inside the Mystique would cause a lot of problems! "CONN, engage.", said Remae as they began to clear the Akira class ship, the ship jumped to warp a few moments later, leaving behind their comrades to carry on their Joint Endeavour alone. The next few days passed without any problems, the crew worked hard in getting the ship back up to speed and Remae spent most of his time inspecting the ship from end to end, given how many years he had served with this ship, he knew her better than anyone else. (Posted by Anthony Keen) Mission: Whom do you trust? Day: 1 Stardate: 2406.11.10 (USS Spectre, Bridge, Captain Remae Ktell - 1300) The Spectre was approaching Geneva, it hadn't been that long since the Bajoran had been here last, but he felt good to be at headquarters again. "Starbase Geneva, this is the USS Spectre, requesting docking instructions.", said Remae over the communication channel. =^= Welcome home Spectre, prepare for automated docking. =^= "Ensign.", said Remae to the CONN Officer. The Spectre was heading into the docking area of the giant space station and via various tractor beams, she was guiding into her dock with the professionalism he'd come to expect. "Docking complete." "Okay, I have to go and find out what mission we're on next. Pierce, go and find us a crew! Everyone else, dismissed, feel free to explore the station but don't expect us to be here for very long." Remae headed for the Ready Room. (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre, Main Engineering – Ensign H’Chir – 1301) They’d dropped out of warp a few minutes ago, the faint shift in the background thrum of the starship as it shifted from subspace back into the realm of normal space-time registering too harshly on the Andorian’s antennae. Scowling in pain H’Chir stabbed his console and brought up the sensor feed on Starbase Geneva. He still wasn’t sure about the events of their time on the Mystique. Much of it had seemed to pass him by for one reason or another, and the only thing he was sure about was that his antennae were definitely feeling sensitive. ~Go to Sickbay, H’Chir – Go and talk to the blind doctors about your sight!~ Pacing up and down, he was at least able to take some comfort in that they were back on the Spectre now and despite the initial shock of her condition, the crew had safely guided her home, and she had done the same for them. He turned to face the door, and a second later was rewarded as they swooshed open allowing a new-comer entry to the engine room. It took barely a second before he realised what had happened and in a burst of frustration H’Chir hurled the nearest PADD at the open doors. Which promptly closed on it, catching it in mid-air. From his vantage point he was able to see the lower half of Geneva. it looked like a giant Christmas tree floating in space. "this is what I needed." he looked into space looking at all the stars twinkling back at him. he felt his body relax and his mind wander. "Andrew this is Douwsy." ~dam I was enjoying this~ "Yes Douwsy what can I do for you." "Are you out side on the hull?" "yes why do you ask?" "I got a call from security wanting you to report there at once. I think that they are a bit peeved with you." ~ow grate. what did I do now." "that's just wonderful." "It did not seem to be a request." Andrew sighed. His ship had arrived and was waiting for him to move over. Lucky for him he had not yet had a chance to move into his quarters on the Mystique, his belongings where still sitting in sickbay. Though again Warren would have to wait to move into his new quarters, as he would have to make sure that the sickbay on the Spectre was ready to accept patients since Tanya would have to be transferred over. Warren grabbed his gear and headed for the transporter room, and got there just in time to catch the third beam over. Warren was not excited to be using the transporter, but he was going to have to put this fear aside. He had used the transporter before with out incident, but he still didn't enjoy it. (Posted by Paul Myroon) (Starbase Geneva – Promenade – Ensign {SG} Divon Lronen – 1400) Divon was going crazy with anticipation. He knew that the Spectre was now docked and was waiting for the go ahead to start bringing his things aboard. He looked over to his belongings just in time to see the transporter effect take hold and them vanish. ~So much for that,~ he thought. Most of Geneva’s systems had been taken off line the day he arrived due to a diagnostic on the system, so he’d had to hoof it. Divon figured that he should probably make his way to the docking area so he could get himself aboard. He couldn’t wait to return to active duty, as he figured, the two week’s ‘rest’ had been excruciatingly painful. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Spectre, Transporter Room One, ACMO Bently - 1401) Warren stepped off the transporter pad to see a small swarm of personal cleaning the ship. ~I really hope sickbay doesn't look like this.~ Warren stepped out of the transporter room to see a corridor that was completely unfamiliar. ~I really need to look into the deck plan of the ship before I'm stationed there, this is the second time in as many days that I have no idea where I'm going.~ Warren walked over to the nearest wall consol. "Computer could you show me how to get to sickbay?" Again Warren was delighted to see a arrow appear along the bulkhead, and he quickly followed after it. As Warren walked along he was shocked at the state of the ship, he could not believe that a crew could leave such a mess and have no regards for their surroundings. Again he hoped that sickbay would be in better condition. (Posted by Paul Myroon) (Starbase Geneva, Main Operations, LtCmdr Shane Schofield, 1403) Shane watched on the main view screen as the USS Spectre, his new ship, dropped from warp and approached the station. He shook his head in dismay as he took in the shape of his new posting. The Spectre looked like she had recently taken a pounding and saw the sure signs of hastily completed repairs. He was sure that the engineering teams of Geneva would be busy for the duration of the Spectre's stay getting her fully repaired and restocked. Shane turned from the main viewer and approached the Captain's office. He had been here almost a week now awaiting the Spectre's arrival and had spent much of that time in briefings with the crew of Geneva, getting brought up to date with the fleet deployments and missions, as well as briefing his fellow officers on the information he had brought with him from Earth when he had been assigned to the USS Paladin's Science department. (Posted by Andrew B.) (USS Spectre, Sickbay, ACMO Bently - 1415) Warren stepped though the doors into sickbay and was relieved to find it in a functioning state, the previous occupants had not been all that clean but at least it wasn't as bad as the rest of the ship. Warren was sure that a couple of hours of cleaning and organizing and sickbay would be up and running. Warren heard the doors of sickbay open behind him and he saw the nursing staff walk in. "Could you folks get things organized, I'm going to go move in and then go get Tanya ready for transport over. I'll be back with her in a couple of hours if you could things ready by then that would be great." Warren walked back out of sickbay, and started the search for this quarters. Now he hoped he could find them without having to use the computer. "You are a full Betazoid, Ensign? How would you rate your telepathic skills?", he asked. Divon considered this for a second. He knew he was no super telepath, but he had certainly held his own. "I've received a strong rating. Probably close to a level 8, Sir... with one being weakest. Level 10s wouldn't receive duties like this, they'd be in Starfleet Intelligence so I suppose I'm on the high end," stated Divon. "Because I said so, Ensign, now, dismissed and we'll talk later after Starfleet has briefed me on the next mission of the Spectre.", said Remae now looking at his computer terminal. Divon frowned for a moment while he stood, the first time in a very long time. "With all due respect Sir, General Order 104: Section B (Paragraph 1A) also covers me. In terms of psychiatric matters I have the same rights as the Chief Medical Officer. You, of all people, should know that. Reinforcing my rank to me will not erase that matter either. If I'm not allowed to do my job on board this vessel we might as well put in for a transfer for me immediately. Of course, Starfleet will wonder why the Counsellor they decided to place on this vessel specifically to talk to you has already transferred off... with all due respect Sir," stated Divon blandly controlling his temper. With that, Divon walked towards the doors ready to exit and carry out his orders. ~That went a little less than well. At least I held on to my temper. I was warned of this possibility,~ he thought. She also looked like she had been through hell and had come back to tell of her adventures. Shane smiled. this was indeed a ship he would be honored and proud to serve aboard. He walked up the docking tunnel and presented his papers to the Security Officer stationed there. "Lieutenant Commander Shane Schofield, requesting permission to come aboard!" "Permission granted sir! Welcome aboard!" "Thank you!" Retrieving his bag from the checks that the Security Officer had just subjected it to Shane headed for the nearest turbolift. "Bridge" he ordered when he entered. He closed his eyes and willed himself to relax, the excitement was starting to get the better of him. A few seconds later the lift doors parted and Shane heard the activity on the bridge as repairs were under way to get the ship ready for her next adventure. Opening his eyes he was immediately greeted by the sight of an army of engineers looking for all the world like an army of ants swarming all over the bridge. There was not one station that didn't have at least two engineers working on it. Shane crossed the bridge and knocked on the Ready Room door. He was eager to report to the Captain and assume his duties here. (Reply from CO, Any) (Posted by Andrew Brannigan) (USS Spectre, Ready Room, Captain Remae Ktell - 1505) The doors opened and Remae returned to the office looking sheepish, Lise wasn't due to arrive on Geneva for another month, something that he must have missed when reading the duty log of Station. For now, he'd returned to his Office. some PADDs had been delivered to his desk and most of them outlined the repairs to the Spectre, including the refit of the phaser array which had been destroyed. Remae made note of the report he had received from Ensign Banowsky's flight around the Spectre, the shield generators were due to be replaced anyway and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to upgrade the phasers. Photon torpedoes had begun arriving to the ship and Remae made a note of that. the phasers would be upgraded by an external team from the Starbase, buzzing around the Spectre in their little work pods, estimated time for the refit was two days. He turned away from one of the PADDs in time to hear the door chime. "Come." "Lt Commander Shane Schofield, reporting as ordered, Captain.", said the new arrival to the ship, Remae fumbled for a PADD, he'd seen the biography of the First Officer somewhere but hadn't read it yet! "Commander, welcome to the Spectre.", Remae was standing, hand outstretched warmly. The Bajoran came around from the far side of his desk and offered a seat on the couch, which appeared to be in worse condition than ever. expelling some more fluff when the First Officer sat down. (Reply from Schofield) "Okay, let's cover the situation of the ship as it now stands.", Remae went into a quick overview of the ships condition several days ago, the Klingons, the damage and the repair schedule. "As soon as the phaser arrays are replaced, I want to conduct a Tactical drill in the nearby system, as well as a test of the phase cloaking device, as we've not had a chance to since we got our ship back. I want you and Lt Commander Orde to organize it, we can have static targets or perhaps even get some of the crew who think they are hot-shots into shuttles and runabouts and we'll have a little game of hide-and-seek.", said Remae handing a PADD over with those orders signed. (Reply from Schofield) "As of this moment, all crew issues are your problem, morale, officer placement and smooth running of departments. If I have a problem with a department not doing their job, you are the one I am going to talk to!", Remae smiled once again, having another hand to pass some of these duties over to was an obvious relief. (Reply from Schofield) "Okay, that's all for now, settle in, get to know the department heads and make the ship ready to depart in two days, I should have our new orders by then. any questions?" "Dismissed.", said Remae as they were done and when the doors closed, Remae felt a large weight had been lifted off his shoulders, now he had the time to contemplate the mission and finally get back to doing what the Spectre did best, exploration. Remae sat back down at his desk, he didn't mention to the First Officer the impending Counsellor interviews, the lack of mission successes the Spectre had endured since he took command, the loss of the CSO two missions ago or the fact he was and probably still was treated by the 52nd Command Team and probably by members of the Spectre as a rogue Captain and not to be trusted. I want you and Lt Commander Orde to organize it, we can have static targets or perhaps even get some of the crew who think they are hot-shots into shuttles and runabouts and we'll have a little game of hide-and-seek.", said Remae handing a PADD over with those orders signed. "Very good sir!" "In the meantime, I want you to oversee the replacement of the mass of the crew, we've run on a skeleton staff since leaving the Mystique, so a lot of the non-bridge crew are going to be and will need your guidance. As of this moment, all crew issues are your problem, morale, officer placement and smooth running of departments. If I have a problem with a department not doing their job, you are the one I am going to talk to!", Remae smiled once again, having another hand to pass some of these duties over to was an obvious relief. "Yes sir! And I am sure I will have the answers to your questions! Sir!" "Okay, that's all for now, settle in, get to know the department heads and make the ship ready to depart in two days, I should have our new orders by then. any questions?" "More of a suggestion, sir. I would like to recommend that all non-essential crew, and by that I mean everyone not involved in the repairing of the Spectre, be given shore leave for tonight. A bit of a night off should see them respond more positively to the tasks at hand in the morning." "Dismissed." "Aye Captain!" Shane left the Ready Room and went in search of his own office. Once there he would need to look into the crew records to determine which posts to fill and who, as the Captain had said, thought of themselves as hot shot pilots would be the cannon fodder in the forthcoming drills. (Posted by Andrew Brannigan) (USS Spectre, Deck 10 Counsellor's Office, COUNS, Ensign {SG} Divon Lronen - 1512) Divon had very little to unpack. He did hang a children's drawing on the wall in his office however. He thought back to that child. The disaster on the moon colony of Pentartha III, the child had been caught in the blast and was slowly dying due to poisonous gases released. He had drawn pictures of the members of the crew of the Trail of Tears who had tried to save him. Divon had spent a lot of time with that child knowing that he would not live long. That was the hard part about that posting, everyone else could speak about those sorts of tragedies from a detached point of view... the crew of the Trail of Tears were there for the long term. When the big guns left, they remained for weeks, sometimes months trying to mop up. Divon straightened the picture and stepped back. Divon sighed and called up the bridge crew roster and tapped his comm badge. The Captain had ordered him to start psych evaluations immediately, might as well start as close to the top as he could. This was the perfect time as they were still docked and it wouldn't interfere with anyone's duties a great deal. "Lieutenant Commander Orde, this is Counsellor Lronen. Could you please report to my office," stated Divon. (Reply Orde) (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Spectre: Security Office - TAC/SC/2O Pierce Horatio Orde - 1514) ~To hear the noncoms talk, I practically live in here,~ Pierce mused, going over a stack of paperwork. ~I really should hand this off to John… but I promised him a break after that cleanup hell.~ It was then that the station commpanel chirped (as it had been set to intercept messages for him). He tapped a control. =/\=Lieutenant Commander Orde, this is Counselor Lronen, =/\= a pleasant male voice spoke. =/\=Could you please report to my office.=/\= ~Oh sure, why not – the rest of this paperwork can wait a little longer.~ “Orde here. I’m on my way, Counsellor,” he replied genially, closing the connection and redirecting further comm. calls to his commbadge. A short walk and turbolift ride later, he found himself outside of the counselor’s office. ~Time to have a nice chat with the new shrink.~ He tapped the door enunciator, waited for the eventual bid to enter, and walked through the door. (Posted by Lennox) (USS Spectre: Counselor’s Office - TAC/SC/2O Pierce Horatio Orde - 1517) Pierce greeted the counselor with a polite nod. “Good afternoon, Counselor. What can I do for you?” (Reply Lronen) (Posted by Lenox) (USS Spectre: Counselor’s Office – COUNS Ensign {SG} Divon Lronen - 1521) Divon was taking one last look through Orde’s file when the officer in question walked into the office. He gave a polite nod and said, “Good afternoon, Counselor. What can I do for you?” Divon rose to his feet and put his hand out. “Well, Lieutenant, as you know I’m the new ship’s counsellor. Among my first orders from the Captain is to begin psych evaluations of all the senior crew. You would be one of the most senior of those crew members,” stated Divon cheerfully. (Reply Orde) “I’m glad that you are so willing to come to see me. I know that on some starships there are problems. I’d hate to have to relieve any officers of duty until they comply with me, but I have my orders too after all,” stated Divon with a smile, but slightly pointedly, “I learned on the USS Trail of Tears that being the nice guy counsellor really only goes so far, especially when there is a job to be done. Regulations are rather concrete.” (Reply Orde) “At any rate, I’ll tell you how I work. I’m a Betazoid, I do have a fairly strong psi rating, but I prefer not to use it except in emergency situations, for first contacts or when the patient requests it or consents. When I evaluate or counsel I’d rather talk and not rely on extraneous abilities. I just find that it can creep out some individuals if they think you routinely go tripping through their thoughts and feelings,” said Divon, “If you’re ready I’d like to begin. I’m most interested in your service record. For instance, you came from a parallel universe. I find that fascinating. Not enough work has been done on the effects of that on the individual traveling. How have you found the adjustment?” (Reply Orde) “Have you contacted any ‘parallel’ people from your life? Your parents or other family members?” asked Divon. (Reply Orde) Divon considered that for a second and nodded, “And why do you think that is? Wouldn’t it just be easier to contact them, especially when they would be missing their son from this universe as well?” (Reply Orde) “I see… perhaps we can discuss this more a bit later. I do have to complete some aspects of this examination. Please look on the screen in front of you and tell me what you see in each of the three images, the first is black and white, the second is red ink shades, the third is multicolored.” (Reply Orde) (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Spectre: Counselor’s Office – TAC/SC/2O Pierce Orde - 1522) “…You would be one of the most senior of those crew members,” stated Divon cheerfully. “Ah, yes. I knew there was a catch somewhere when I was promoted,” Orde replied lightly, a friendly grin on his face. He shook the counselor’s hand firmly. “So I’m up on the list for the head-shrinking? Then let’s get to it.” “…Regulations are rather concrete.” “Of course, Counselor, just like I have to clear anything that may be potentially dangerous that you wish to bring onboard.” “…fascinating. Not enough work has been done on the effects of that on the individual traveling. How have you found the adjustment?” “Counselor, the parallel universe I hailed from was twenty-some years behind the here and now. I look rather good for fifty, no? Anyway, this universe’s Pierce Orde expired three relative months before I crashed your timeline. In addition, I distinctly remember crashing a few other timelines before finally appearing in this one – I sometimes feel ‘echoes’ of knowledge and/or skills from other personas. Just a few days ago, when the Mystique ran into a temporal anomaly, I was aged about thirty years… and an older persona was much more in effect. To me, however, another persona of me is still me. I don’t see it as a problem.” “…other family members?” Pierce nodded. “Yes. In my home timeline, my parents had died when I was a teenager. In this one, they are both alive and well. Similarly, their son had died three months before I came into this world. We consider ourselves ‘family’. My ‘father’ and ‘mother’ are serving aboard Geneva currently, as civilian liaisons in their respective fields.” NRPG: Erm… I’m going to kinda ignore that next block of text. And maybe update my character’s bio… although I had thought it said something about this. RPG: “…red ink shades, the third is multicoloured.” He glanced at the three images in sequence. “The first looks like an Earth bat to me, the second a person on a hang-glider, seeing the world from a bird’s perspective, and the third appears to be an impact. Possibly a large meteor… or perhaps an explosive – the central column of ejector leads me to think it’s the latter. Am I sufficiently sane to carry on my duties as Chief of Security, Counselor?” (reply Lronen) (Posted by Lenox) (USS Spectre: Counselor’s Office – COUNS Ensign {SG} Divon Lronen - 1538) Divon watched as Orde glanced at the three images in sequence. “The first looks like an Earth bat to me, the second a person on a hang-glider, seeing the world from a bird’s perspective, and the third appears to be an impact. Possibly a large meteor… or perhaps an explosive – the central column of ejector leads me to think it’s the latter. Am I sufficiently sane to carry on my duties as Chief of Security, Counselor?” Divon considered for a second and nodded his head slowly, "I don't see any deep seated difficulties here. Considering you've been through what could only be classified as a potentially traumatic experience you've come through quite well. I'm sure the support systems your 'parents' provide helps a good deal. You're free to resume your duties sir. Thank you for indulging me and feel free to drop by any time." Divon smiled at Orde and offered his hand again. (Reply Orde) Divon watched Orde leave and turned to his computer. "Computer, record report Orde, Pierce Horatio, Lieutenant Commander." [Recording] "Despite Lieutenant Commander Orde's unorthodox past, he seems to be adjusting well and has an excellent bearing as an officer. Some of his responses are slightly 'dark' but that is to be expected when one deals with battle and security on a regular basis. He is a driven crewmate, to the point that he should be advised to take regular shore leaves to 'decompress'. Overall, I see no reason that Pierce Orde shouldn't remain in his current position. Computer end file," said Divon formally. The computer let out a beeping sound to indicate that the recording had been made. Divon looked at his list and hit the intercom button again. "Ensign Banowsky, this is Counsellor Lronen. Please report to my office, thank you." (Reply Banowsky) With that, the communication cut and Divon brought up Banowsky's service record. Definitely this was slightly less 'colourful' than Orde's. As he was reading his door chime sounded and then the door slid open. "Ensign, good to see you," stated Divon with a smile and offering his hand. (Reply Banowsky) (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Spectre: Counselor’s Office – TAC/SC/2O Pierce Orde - 1539) “… and feel free to drop by any time,” the counselor was saying. Pierce shook his hand genially, nodding twice. “I’ll be sure to take you up on that offer the next time I start cracking, Counselor. Perhaps we can get together for a game of darts later, Counselor,” he said, adjusting his eyewear. “Nineteen-hundred hours sound good?” (Reply Lronen) “Aye. And don’t forget to submit a list of nonstandard items you’ve brought aboard to Security.” With that, he was out of the door and down the corridor. ~At least we both know I’m not crazy,~ he thought with a bit of mirth. He zipped back to his office (which was also the central security station) and plopped down in the chair, ready to tackle the bit of paperwork he had with gusto. (Posted by Lenox) (USS Spectre – Counsellor’s Office – COUNS – Ensign {SG} Divon Lronen – 1540) Divon listened to the suggestion of Lieutenant Commander Orde, it was good that he was trying to get to know him and Divon appreciated the gesture. He wasn’t much at darts, in fact, he didn’t know it at all, but he was still willing to try. “Well Sir, I’d be happy to try darts. I must confess I’ve never played before. I hope you don’t mind showing me how,” stated Divon. Orde nodded at Divon and said, “Aye. And don’t forget to submit a list of nonstandard items you’ve brought aboard to Security.” With that, he was out of the door and down the corridor. Divon watched the door slide shut behind him. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Spectre: Security Office – TAC/SC/2O Pierce Orde – 1542) Most of the personnel had previously been assigned to Spectre a couple weeks ago, so he felt confident in skimming over those and focusing on the names he didn’t recognize. After that came the duty roster requests and such (some stemming from him also being the 2O and previously the acting FO), most of which he authorized after a quick review. He finished up his own department’s duty roster for the next few days and sent it off, off-loading a copy onto his tricorder for the upcoming department head meeting he knew would be coming up soon. After that, he read through the new First Officer’s Fleet bio, noting the man’s pilot credentials. ~Of course, this high up in Starfleet, you always get to figure out how to fly a ship… you’re just not an ace at it unless you came up as a helmsman.~ That being the last of his things to do for a while, he decided to give the new First Officer a call. “Commander Orde to Commander Schofield. You available, sir, for a chat?” (Reply Schofield) (Posted by Lenox) (USS Spectre-Quarters of Ensign Banowsky- Ensign Banowsky - 1543) Will was laying in bed staring at the ceiling. He had spent some time on station gathering up supplies and crew members. After that was done he had retired to his room to take a short nap and rest, but he was now awake. He hadn't been sleeping well. There was no reason specifically for his not being able to sleep. Just the fact he had been afraid that the ship would be attacked on route to Starbase Geneva, and with a damaged phaser array and the shield generator was having some problems. Will basically had himself on call the entire trip, even when off duty. He made sure he had sleep every night, but he didn't get much. He had gotten out of bed and walked over to the replicator to get something to drink when he heard a beep on his commbadge. =^=Ensign Banowsky, this is Counsellor Lronen. Please report to my office, thank you.=^= "Yes sir," replied Will, "I'm on my way." (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS-Spectre-Counselor's office-Ensign Will Banowsky-1545) Will walked up to the counselor's office and pressed the call button. The door opened and Will entered. "Ensign, good to see you," stated Divon with a smile and offering his hand. "Likewise." Will said as he shook his hand. "May I ask the purpose of my visit?" (reply Divon) (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre-Counsellor's Office - COUNS - Divon Lronen - 1547) Divon watched Will as he shook his hand and grinned inwardly. He could tell he had raised the man's 'shields' as it were. Now to see if he would ask, or Divon would have to tell him. Either was an indicator, a marker as it were. "May I ask the purpose of my visit?" asked Will finally. Divon nodded, "You certainly may. The captain as asked me to go through some routine psych evaluations with the bridge and senior staff. You qualify in those categories so here we are." (Reply Will) "Well, it's quite simple actually. I'll ask you some questions, perhaps show you some images and you just respond honestly. I will tell you that I am a Betazoid and therefore have the gifts of my race, however I will not use them unless its an emergency or I am specifically requested to by the patient or the captain," stated Divon. He hated having patients think he was scanning them constantly instead of trusting their word. Trust went a long way in his business. (Reply Will) "I see here you have two brothers and a sister. How are you dealing with your separation from them? Especially knowing that under our present circumstances you might not see them in awhile?" asked Divon with a sympathetic smile. (Reply Will) Divon nodded, "I also see you have an interest in law. What motivated you to leave law school and enter Starfleet?" (Reply Will) "Do you ever regret your decision?" asked Divon, "After all, you more or less made the decision to start over from scratch after making a promising beginning there and I know you still follow legal matters with a great deal of interest." (Reply Will) Divon tapped a few things on his PADD and continued. "I want you to look at the three images and tell me what you believe happened in each one, in detail." (Reply Will) (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Spectre-Counsellor's Office - Ensign Banowsky- 1555) Divon nodded, "You certainly may. The captain as asked me to go through some routine psych evaluations with the bridge and senior staff. You qualify in those categories so here we are." "Ok, so is there some kind of weird test I need to do, or stuff like that?" Will asked. Will knew he wasn't crazy, and he was hoping the counselor would think so as well. "Well, it's quite simple actually. I'll ask you some questions, perhaps show you some images and you just respond honestly. I will tell you that I am a Betazoid and therefore have the gifts of my race, however I will not use them unless its an emergency or I am specifically requested to by the patient or the captain," stated Divon. "Well feel free to scan me during these sessions. But only during these sessions. Just in case there is something I'm trying to subconsciously suppress or something." Will replied. "I see here you have two brothers and a sister. How are you dealing with your separation from them? Especially knowing that under our present circumstances you might not see them in awhile?" asked Divon with a sympathetic smile. "Well, I miss them, but I knew coming in I would be far away from them for a long period of time, which is why I send the messages a lot and am in contact with them at least once a week when time allows. But yeah I miss them and I can't wait to see them again, but I chose this life." Divon nodded, "I also see you have an interest in law. What motivated you to leave law school and enter Starfleet?" "Well I never started law school, I was accepted and was going to attend, but I decided to go to the Academy instead. I was always interested in Starfleet. My dad served, and my Grandfather was an admiral. And as much as I loved law, I just felt like it was something I should do, at least for a short while. Because I could always leave Starfleet to become a lawyer, but I didn't think I could do it the other way around, and I just wanted to do this." Will was a little irritated by the question about law. He at time really regretted not becoming a lawyer, and at times he didn't. "Do you ever regret your decision?" asked Divon, "After all, you more or less made the decision to start over from scratch after making a promising beginning there and I know you still follow legal matters with a great deal of interest." "At times, yeah I regret it. Sometimes I really wish I didn't join Starfleet. But then there are also times I wouldn't trade my time in Starfleet for anything. And who knows I may leave Starfleet and go to law school. And I'm looking into the Jag corp. And as soon as I have some more free time, I am going to use my law holo programs. But yeah sometimes I do regret the decision. But as they say when one door closes a window opens." Will began to chuckle. He couldn’t believe he used that old saying. It was so overused, and at the same time so true. Divon tapped a few things on his PADD and continued. "I want you to look at the three images and tell me what you believe happened in each one, in detail." "Let's see in the first one, the one with the swings and the girl. The girl on the swing has had a hard time and a bad day. And the girl walking down the path is a friend, or someone trying to reach out to her, so that she wouldn't be alone and help her out with her problems. That’s what I think is happening. In the second picture the guy is weeping because his friend, girlfriend, daughter, whatever, someone he knew died, and he is weeping on the discovery of it, and he just can't bear the loss of what has happened, so he is shielding his eyes to the image and crying. That is what I believe is the story to that one. With the second one the woman comes home to find her husband passed out drunk in the bedroom, and she can't bear to look and she is crying, because her husband is an alcoholic and is becoming dependent on alcohol and it is tearing their marriage apart. Either that or he is dead and she can't bear to see that happen. I don't know, any other questions counselor?" (reply Divon) (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre-Counsellor's Office - COUNS - Ensign {SG} Divon Lronen- 1559) Divon listened to Banowsky's accounting of the three pictures and swallowed hard. He had never heard such a negative portrayal of not just one, but all three pictures. He was used to that reaction to the man standing over the woman, even the woman leaving the bedroom... but the little girl on the swing set was the control, most people saw something positive in that picture. This was definitely a troubling insight to Banowsky's mind. This coupled with the irritation he felt over being asked about his leaving law school, it seemed like there was a good deal of negativity and possibly even rage here. Divon blinked for a second. "Would you consider your childhood a happy one?" asked Divon. (Reply Banowsky) Divon nodded, there wouldn't be much he could do for now except start setting up regular sessions. He tapped his PADD for a few seconds. "Ensign Banowsky, there is no reason that I would consider relieving you of duty , but I would like to start seeing you semi- regularly. The transition to Starfleet, especially working so far from Earth can be difficult when you're just getting started. Lets say every other week on... Tuesday when you're off duty," Divon programmed the information into the duty roster. This would be a part of Banowsky's official duty schedule. (reply Banowsky) "Starfleet regulations in these matters are fairly clear. We'll start this Tuesday as soon as you come off duty. I look forward to seeing you here. Have a good day," stated Divon rising to shake Will's hand. As soon as Will left the room, Divon turned to his computer system. "Computer, Record, Banowsky, William, Ensign Senior Grade," stated Divon. [Recording] "Ensign Banowsky exhibits some feelings of deep regret over leaving his family and friends on Earth to pursue Starfleet over law school. He has developed a negative outlook, viewing the worst in things and people. This could be the beginning of a persecution complex or even something greater. His natural drive to succeed coupled with his own high standards for himself could be a disastrous combination when coupled with this sort of an outlook. As a result, I have began mandatory counseling sessions for the Ensign on a bi-weekly basis. These are designed at helping him cope with the change of life and lifestyle he has decided to undergo," stated Divon formally, "Computer, end, save and file." [Report Saved and Filed] This was certainly turning out to be an interesting day and a most interesting crew. Divon called up the ship's manifest and started to look for his next patient. He tapped the intercom button. "Doctor Williams, this is Counsellor Lronen. Its time to turn the tables on you I'm afraid. Its time for your regular psych examination. Please report to my office, thank you," stated Divon. (Reply Williams) With that, Divon sat back and waited for the ship's doctor to arrive. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Spectre-Counsellor's Office - Ensign Will Banowsky- 1600) "Would you consider your childhood a happy one?" asked Divon. "Ya, I come from a very loving family. We were always there for each other whenever we needed one another. So ya I had a very happy and loving childhood." Will replied. "Ensign Banowsky, there is no reason that I would consider relieving you of duty , but I would like to start seeing you semi-regularly. The transition to Starfleet, especially working so far from Earth can be difficult when you're just getting started. Lets say every other week on... Tuesday when you're off duty," Divon programmed the information into the duty roster. This would be a part of Banowsky's official duty schedule. "Umm, I assure you I'm fine, I just need to set myself into a routine and all. But you're the counselor so, alright, Tuesday." "Starfleet regulations in these matters are fairly clear. We'll start this Tuesday as soon as you come off duty. I look forward to seeing you here. Have a good day," Will exited the room in silence. ~Man, he thinks I'm crazy. I've got to see a "crazy"doctor. But who knows this may be good.~ (Posted by Will) (USS Spectre-Bridge 1-Ensign Will Banowsky-1603) Will entered the corridor in silence as well. He had been pretty bummed since he was told he needed mandatory sessions. However, he thought that they could be needed as well. However he needed to blow of some steam. "Ensign Banowsky to Ensign Ronsworth." He said as he pressed his commbadge. (reply Ronsworth) "You doing anything man, I'm not do back to the bridge for duty until 17.30, and I need to blow of some steam, you up for a trip to Geneva." (reply Ronsworth.) (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Spectre – Deck 6, Game Room – COUNS – Ensign {SG} Divon Lronen – 1857) Divon walked into the game room. The Lieutenant Commander hadn’t told him where to meet, only when. He had looked up the ship’s deck plans and found that there was a game room. This seemed like the logical choice for where one would play ‘darts’. He had also taken a moment to look up some of the finer points of the game which seemed to consist of throwing pointy things at a board made out of cork. He wasn’t sure how he would do at this game, there was nothing really similar on Betazed. Divon found it vaguely amused that this game had been invented… hardly surprising considering Earth’s warlike past. No doubt this game had been borne out of a logical practice of combat. Divon stood and waited for the Lieutenant Commander to arrive, he decided he’d wait for awhile and then use the ship’s computer to locate him. (Reply Orde, any) (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Spectre: Deck 6: Rec One – TAC/SC/2O Pierce Orde – 1859) Pierce strolled into Rec One, glad to be off-duty, if only for a little while. Waving to the counselor, he made his way over to the Betazoid, holding his hand out for a quick shake. “Thanks for coming,” he said. “Mind if I call you Divon, Counselor?” (Reply Counselor) Nodding once, Pierce continued: “Darts is actually a pretty simple game. In the standard variation, we throw these sharp darts at the board and deduct the point values from three-hundred and one. The first one to get three-hundred and one points on an exact throw, wins. You get three throws per round, and then your opponent gets to throw. If you happen to go over three-hundred and one points, it’s called a ‘bust’ and you revert back to the number of points you had at the beginning of that round. Each segment of the board has a different point value, with the numbers on the outside telling you the general point values for the entire wedge. The two rings on the board are double and triple point pieces, with the inner ring being triple and the outer being double. The center of the board is called the ‘bull’s-eye’ and is worth twenty-five points. You following me so far?” (Reply Counselor) (Posted by Lenox) (USS Spectre, Deck 6, Rec One - COUNS - Ensign Divon Lronen - 1900) Divon didn't have to wait long, Lieutenant Commander Orde entered the area quickly and shook Divon's hand. "Thanks for coming," Orde said. "Mind if I call you Divon, Counselor?" "Not at all Lieutenant Commander," said Divon smiling. Nodding once, Pierce continued: "Darts is actually a pretty simple game. I've never done this before," stated Divon. He felt no real concern except in not being much of a challenge to his opponent. After all, this was just a game. (Reply Orde) "What are the origins of this game? We have nothing quite like it on Betazed. I'm just curious as most games evolve out of a practical usage. Games are often used in societies to hone skills in children or people when at rest so they can be used when necessary. At least that's what most of these kinds of games used to be used for. I am trusting that this is a fairly ancient game," stated Divon. (Reply Orde) (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) [END COMPILE]
