This ship, while tiny, had some impressive arrays of defensive marvels as well as some exciting scientific equipment. She was a little concerned about the name, however, after Voyager returned and informed the crew about the fate of the first USS Raven the name seemed to be a bad omen. Amanda looked around the small craft and sighed, sitting down heavily in her command chair. Looking at the crew manifest, she was hardly surprised. It seemed like Starfleet was giving her half her crew, just to turn around and give them away again. It was almost like the Raven was to be a 'shore leave' ship. Committed not just to scientific research, but to ferrying people around from place to place. They'd serve a few months, then go off to duties elsewhere. ~Oh well, I guess I should be happy that they gave me this chance at all,~ thought Amanda to herself. Lately, newly commissioned ships hadn't been very heavy in the scientific research end of things... almost everything was either single purpose aggression or dual purpose with aggression built in. She looked around once more at the small bridge, knowing that her crew would be joining her soon to report in and they would get underway. Launch time was set at 1200 hours. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Raven-Transporter room-SCPO Ian Callaghan-0900) Ian stepped of the transporter and looked around the Raven's transporter room. This ship would be his new home for awhile, and he didn't mind it. The only thing he didn't enjoy is that he wouldn't be able to see his son for awhile. His 12 year old son Michael was back on Earth, living with his parents. Ian, of course would try and see him every time he returned to Earth, but with the tension between the admiralty was rising, he didn't know when that would be. When he served on the Galaxy class Ship Atlas, where he served for the bulk of his service, Michael was living with him onboard, same with his wife Elizabeth, up until her death ten years ago. Now he was onboard the Raven. Of course with the new ship he was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer and would be the highest ranking enlisted science officer on board. He didn't mind that, but of course he would miss the Atlas, and his son. His son was his life, he was everything to him, other then his service. Ian nodded to the transporter chief and headed towards the door of the transporter room. He would report in to the captain and then get started working. His things of course had already been forwarded to the ship and were in his room, where they waited unpacking, and of course coordinating with his roommate, whoever it was. (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Raven-Bridge-Senior Chief Petty Officer Ian Callaghan-0903) Ian entered the bridge and took a look around. He noticed the captain was standing at the front of the room and walked up to her. Then standing at attention he said. "Senior Chief Petty Officer Ian Callaghan reporting for duty ma'am." (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Raven, Bridge, CO, Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, 0904) Amanda had been surveying the bridge for some time. She looked at endless PADDs detailing the various refits and changes. ~Expanded hull, check. Refitted defensive capabilities, check. New engines, check. Upgraded warp core, check. Won't these things ever end?~ A few minutes later, she heard the doors to the bridge slide open and footfalls come towards her. ~Oh great, more things to look over.~ Amanda was suddenly face with an older gentleman wearing a science uniform and with enlisted ranking of a senior chief petty officer. "Senior Chief Petty Officer Ian Callaghan reporting for duty ma'am." "Oh yes, one of our new scientific personnel. Welcome aboard. I actually answer better to 'sir', as do most Starfleet personnel no matter what their gender. Someday, when you have time, I'll explain to you the linguistic genealogy of 'ma'am', its less than enlightened. At any rate, you'll find your quarters on deck four. I'm sure you're roommate will be around shortly. The lab you'll be working in is on deck five," Amanda said with a wry grin. She wasn't really angry, however she had to ensure people knew how she desired to be addressed. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Raven-Bridge-Senior Chief Petty Officer Ian Callaghan-0905) "Oh yes, one of our new scientific personnel. Welcome aboard. I'm sure you're roommate will be around shortly. The lab you'll be working in is on deck five," "Yes Sir," Ian said trying his best not to say Ma'am, "I'll be more careful with my sirs and ma'ams. I've always felt bad about calling a woman sir, makes me feel like I'm calling them a man. To me that’s like insulting them. But I'll work past that...sir." (reply Ivanovicha) "With your permission Sir, I'd like to get started working right away." (reply Ivanovicha) Dismissed and embarrassed Ian headed towards the turbolift doors where he would head to the lab on deck 5, and from his studying of the Raven, that was the warp and energy theoretical units lab. ~Let's hope they let me blow something up.~ (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Raven, Bridge, CO, Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, 0908) "Yes Sir," Ian said trying his best not to say Ma'am, "I'll be more careful with my sirs and ma'ams. I've always felt bad about calling a woman sir, makes me feel like I'm calling them a man. To me that's like insulting them. But I'll work past that...sir," stated the chief looking more than a little embarrassed. "I would appreciate if you did Chief. You see... originally ma'am... or madam... or more properly ma dame, was the female owner or manager of a brothel. For some unknown reason it entered into polite language some time ago. Sir, is a military designation however and we are in a military organization, making it much more appropriate. Besides, on a personal level, I'm sure you can see why I'd rather be referred militarily instead of as an owner or manager of a brothel," Amanda said with a wry grin. The Chief looked downcast. He definitely was embarrassed, Amanda hoped not permanently so. "With your permission Sir, I'd like to get started working right away." "Absolutely. Just be careful firing anything up until after we disembark. We are set to leave dock at 1200 hrs. Dismissed Chief," said Amanda. She watched Callaghan go and hoped that she hadn't damaged their working relationship. Amanda had tried to remain upbeat and not angry. It was, after all, a fairly honest mistake. She was a bit surprised that no one had ever told him about it before. No matter, too much work to be done to worry about these things. Amanda hoped that he wouldn't hold a grudge, she certainly wasn't planning to. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Raven-Warp and Energy Theoretical Units Lab-Senior Chief Petty Officer Ian Callaghan-0910) Ian walked into the dark lab room. It was empty, as far as people go, but it was full of fun gismos he was going to get to "play with". "Computer, lights" he said, as the once dark room became filled with light. He took a good look around. It wasn't as big as one of the labs on the Atlas, but it was good enough. "I think I'm going to like it here." (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Raven, Transporter Room, ATAC/ASC Ensign {JG} Samantha Chandler-1000) Sam stepped off the transporter pad with bag in hand. She looked at the transporter room officer. "Could you tell which way it is to the turbolift?" she asked him. The officer stepped away from his console and walked out the door and showed her which way to go. "Just take this corridor all the way down to the end. It is at the end," he said. "Thank you," Sam said, heading down the corridor to the turbolift. (Posted By Esther) (USS Raven, Deck One, Bridge-1010) Sam stepped out of the turbolift and headed for the CO's ready room. She pushed the door chime and waited for an answer. When the door opened, she walked in. "Ensign Samantha Chandler reporting for duty, ma'am," she said standing at attention in front of the captain's desk. (Posted By Esther) (USS Raven-Warp and Energy Theoretical Units Lab-SCPO Ian Callaghan-1011) Ian was wandering around the lab making sure everything was in order and in working condition. Checking the equipment, once, twice, three times. He didn't want any of the science equipment to blow up...well not unintentionally. He was done checking all the science equipment when he was contacted over the comm system. =^=Chief Callaghan, how are you finding the laboratory?=^= "Everything down here is in working order sir." Ian said as he walked over towards a console on the right side. "Everything is ready to go for when we depart. Is there anything else you need me to do sir before we embark?" (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Raven, Ready Room, CO, Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, 1012) Amanda had been reviewing her mission specifics when her door chime sounded. "Come," she called out and watched as a young woman walked in. She had tan skin and auburn hair and was dressed in Starfleet's Support division uniform. She had the pips of an Ensign {JG}. ~Fresh out of the Academy,~ thought Amanda. "Ensign Samantha Chandler reporting for duty, ma'am," she said standing at attention in front of the captain's desk. "At ease Ensign," said Amanda with a slight grin, "Chandler... right... you're going to be serving on the Tactical station of this ship until we arrive at Starbase Geneva, where you'll be transferred over to be their Assistant Tactical/Security Chief under... Captain Arianna and Lieutenant Casely. I don't know much about Casely..." Amanda trailed off at the thought of Arianna. She'd known Lise for some time and was frankly... annoyed... that she'd been given command after that travesty she committed on the Klingon home world. She understood Arianna's motives, but still didn't excuse her method. (Reply Chandler) "For the time being, you'll be operating our tactical station on this ship. We're not big enough for department chiefs and the like for most stations, except for science. You'll more or less be operating the tactical station on your own. That means you're on regular shifts unless something goes wrong... then you'll be called in. We can raise and lower the multiphasic shields on our own... as well as operate the cloaking system. However, if we run into trouble, it seems you're our woman. Welcome aboard Ensign. Please check out your station, be prepared to run tests on the systems after we leave space dock. That should be at about 1200. Questions?" (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Raven, Ready Room, ATAC/ASC Ensign (JG) Samantha Chandler - 1014) "At ease Ensign," said the captain, with a slight grin, "Chandler... right... you're going to be serving on the Tactical station of this ship until we arrive at Starbase Geneva, where you'll be transferred over to be their Assistant Tactical/Security Chief under... Captain Arianna and Lieutenant Casely. I don't know much about Casely..." she said, trailing off. Sam moved to where she was at ease. "Yes, ma'am," she said. "For the time being, you'll be operating our tactical station on this ship. We're not big enough for department chiefs and the like for most stations, except for science. You'll more or less be operating the tactical station on your own. That means you're on regular shifts unless something goes wrong... then you'll be called in. I will be ready when we launch," Sam said confidently. (Reply Ivanovicha) With that, Sam walked out of the captain's ready room and out onto the bridge. She walked over to the tactical station and sat down and checked it out. (Posted By Esther) (USS Raven, Ready Room, CO, Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, 1015) In meeting this fresh Ensign, Amanda was... enjoying herself. She generally preferred the company of fellow scientists, but Chandler seemed to be confident and strong. She'd have to ensure they had a chance to talk more fully later on. "I understand. I will be ready when we launch," Sam said confidently. "Excellent Ensign. Please have a look at your station and adjust the settings to your liking. I would ask that you refrain from weapons tests until we've properly cleared space dock. You should also find your quarters, I'm sure you'll meet your roommate soon enough," stated Amanda with a smile. Amanda watched Chandler nod and then turn and walk out of the Ready Room, no doubt getting ready for her new tasks at hand. Amanda tapped her comm badge, "Chief Callaghan, how are you finding the laboratory?" (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Raven, Ready Room, CO, Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, 1018) Amanda had just contacted Senior Chief down in the Warp and Energy Theoretical Units Lab. He seemed pleased at the state of the laboratory over all. In truth, it had all the 'toys' usually found on a larger starship. He asked if there was anything else that had to be done before disembarking. "Not really Chief. You should probably see about getting your quarters set up... well, your half of them at least. You'll hear an all stations hail when we get underway," said Amanda grinning. (Reply Callaghan) As the channel closed, the door chime went off. Things had been busy, but imagine meeting the new crew aboard a larger starship. "Come in," Amanda called out. A tall man walked into the room sporting the rank pips of Lieutenant Commander. The highest rank on this ship next to herself. Amanda knew instantly that this was Lieutenant Commander Armstrong. She rose and smiled. "Lieutenant Commander Armstrong I presume? Its good to meet you. I'm Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, good to meet you," said Amanda grinning. She had heard good things about this man. He had a keen interest in science, but also understood the command workings of a starship. In essence, the perfect person for this job. (Reply Armstrong) "I must say, I've read your files. I'm most impressed. I'm interested in your knowledge of neutron stars at the moment the most. We're going to be visiting one soon after all. I'll brief the entire crew once we're underway," stated Amanda, "In the meantime, I'd advise you to meet some of the other crew and familiarize yourself with the craft. She's a bit different than most Raven Class ships, a bit faster and a bit tougher. Have you been on a ship with a cloak or a multiphasic shield before?" (Reply Armstrong) "Well, you'll find it quite interesting I'm sure. Do you have any questions?" asked Amanda. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Raven-Warp and Energy Theoretical Units Lab-SCPO Ian Callaghan-1018) =^=Not really Chief. You should probably see about getting your quarters set up... well, your half of them at least. You'll hear an all stations hail when we get underway,=^= "Yes sir, feel free to contact me if you need anything. Callaghan out." Ian then turned around and headed out the door. (Posted by Will) (USS Raven, Main Bridge, First Officer, Lt. Commander John Armstrong, 1019) John walked into the bridge and looked around. It was smaller compared to his last ship, were he served has Chief CONN Officer. He looked around and saw the door to the Captain's Ready Room and walked over and hit the door chime. He had no idea who the CO was, but really expected himself to be given his first command, much to his dismay he was given First Officer. John stood tall and waited to meet his new CO. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Raven, Ready Room, FO, Lt. Commander John Armstrong, 1020) "Come in," said a female voice. With that, John entered and saw his new Captain stand up and smile. "Lieutenant Commander Armstrong I presume? Its good to meet you. I'm Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, good to meet you," said Amanda has she grinned at John. John returned a polite smile. "Thank you, sir. The pleasure is mine," John said. "I must say, I've read your files. I'm most impressed. I'm interested in your knowledge of neutron stars at the moment the most. We're going to be visiting one soon after all. I'll brief the entire crew once we're underway. In the meantime, I'd advise you to meet some of the other crew and familiarize yourself with the craft. She's a bit different than most Raven Class ships, a bit faster and a bit tougher. Have you been on a ship with a cloak or a multiphasic shield before?" "No, sir," John said. ~Why would a tiny science vessel need features a standard warship doesn't have?~ John questioned. "Well, you'll find it quite interesting I'm sure. Do you have any questions?" the CO asked. "No, sir. I'm just curious, are we waiting for final preparations, or just the crew to board?" John asked. He was ready to go underway. (reply Ivanovicha) "Yes, sir. I understand. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to get to my duties." (reply Ivanovicha) And with that, John get up and walked out. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Raven, Bridge, FO, Lt. Commander John Armstrong, 1021) John walked out of the Ready Room and saw a young lady sitting at Tactical. He walked over and introduced himself. "Name and rank, officer," John said in a semi-playful, semi-serious manner. (Posted by Kevin Scharm) (USS Raven-Crew Quarters of Ian Callaghan and Unknown Roommate-1022) Ian entered his room and looked around. It was not to big, and luckily Ian didn't have much stuff. The room had two beds, one on each side, with some shelf space, and drawers underneath the bed. He put his bags on one of the beds and began to unpack. Still no sign of his roommate. (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Raven, Ready Room, CO, Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, 1023) "No, sir. I'm just curious, are we waiting for final preparations, or just the crew to board?" John asked. He was ready to go underway. Amanda considered this for a second. "A few of the crew are double checking their stations. Otherwise, the refit is done. We're just waiting for a few last crew members to come on board so we can launch. If you could try to speed that up, I'd greatly appreciate it." "Yes, sir. I understand. If you'll excuse me, I'm going to get to my duties." "Absolutely Mr. Armstrong. I look forward to working with you," stated Amanda smiling. She wondered how happy he would be to work with her, once he knew what their first mission would be. She then watched as her FO left the room. Amanda had just caught her breath when her door chime sounded again. "Enter," she stated as the door slid open. "Lt. Mistie Alvaras reporting for duty sir," stated the woman in front of her. "Ah yes, Doctor Alvaras, I've been looking forward to meeting you. I'm Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, you should probably know that besides one nurse, you're our medical staff," said Amanda smiling warmly. (Reply Alvaras) Amanda nodded. "I need you to double check that we have the proper med lab items in store. Especially those to counteract pulsar radiation and to aid in the rejection of Borg assimilation nano-probes. I'll explain more completely in the briefings. Please don't discuss this with other crew members, except perhaps Lieutenant-Commander Armstrong, the First Officer. Make sure you have necessary supplies before we disembark." (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Raven, Bridge, ATAC/ASC Ensign JG Samantha Chandler - 1024) Sam sat at the tactical station, looking it over to get a feel for it. She heard the door to the CO's ready room open. She looked up and saw a Lt. Commander step out. He walked over to her. "Name and rank, officer," he asked. "Ensign Samantha Chandler, sir," she answered. "But most people call me Sam." (Posted By Esther) (USS Raven-Bridge-Chief Medical Officer Lt. Mistie Alvaras-1025) Mistie entered the bridge of the Raven class vessel. It wasn't as big or as nice as the last ship she was on, the USS Garuda, an Olympic class ship. It was also a little more quiet, especially since she was a betazoid. She tried her best to not pick up any stray thoughts, but it was hard at times. Especially those times when there were medical emergencies. The more stress the harder it was to suppress the telepathy. Which is why she requested the transfer to a smaller vessel. Less mental stress would mean her sanity. She looked around the bridge and spotted a man and woman talking. She smiled, and then walked towards the ready room. She could "tell" by many means that neither of them where the person she wanted to meet. She pressed the door chime and then when it opened, she entered and said. "Lt. Mistie Alvaras reporting for duty sir." (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Raven, Bridge, FO, Lt. Commander John Armstrong, 1026) "Ensign Samantha Chandler, sir, but most people call me Sam," the young Tactical officer said. John smiled. He was surprised this young officer respected the chain of command, it seemed like all the young Academy recruits these days, especially Tactical Majors, seemed to be rude, but this one seemed to respect the chain of command. "Very good, Ensign. I'm Lieutenant Commander John Armstrong, our first officer. Are you staying with us or are you being transferred to Starbase Geneva following our mission?" (reply Chandler) "I see. Have you settled into your quarters yet?" (reply Chandler) "Alright. Well, Ensign, just between you and me, serving has a tactical officer on a science vessel is a piece of cake. You might have to fire a few probes, but don't worry about fighting anything tough like the Borg," John let out a small laugh, "so, enjoy your tour of duty with us," John explained. (reply Chandler, if you want) And with that John walked to the turbolift to greet the other members of the crew. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Raven-Ready Room-CMO Lt. Mistie Alvaras-1027) "Ah yes, Doctor Alvaras, I've been looking forward to meeting you. I'm Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, you should probably know that besides one nurse, you're our medical staff," said Amanda smiling warmly. "Aye, well then, I look forward to working with the nurse. Anything you would like me to do before we depart?" Amanda nodded. Make sure you have necessary supplies before we disembark." "Yes sir, I will make sure we have the adequate supplies, and that everything is in order. Although, I am interested in why we need protection against Borg assimilation nano-probes, I will wait for the briefing." Mistie then headed towards the door with a smile. She was eager to get on her way, and was glad that their weren't any stray voices in her head. She exited the room and headed towards sickbay. (posted by Will Banowsky) (USS Raven, Bridge, ATAC/ASC Ensign JG Samantha Chandler - 1028) "Very good, Ensign. I'm Lieutenant Commander John Armstrong, our first officer. Are you staying with us or are you being transferred to Starbase Geneva following our mission?" "I will be transferring to Starbase Geneva at the end of our mission, sir," Sam replied. "I see. Have you settled into your quarters yet?" the commander asked. "I haven't had the chance yet. I just arrived onboard about twenty minutes ago. I wanted to see my station before I went to check out my quarters," she answered. "Alright. Well, Ensign, just between you and me, serving has a tactical officer on a science vessel is a piece of cake. You might have to fire a few probes, but don't worry about fighting anything tough like the Borg," he explained, "so, enjoy your tour of duty with us." "Yes sir. I will," she answered. With that, the commander walked away from Sam and towards the turbolift. Sam turned back to her console. ~I guess this could wait. I should go check out my quarters,~ she thought to herself. Sam picked up her bag and headed for the turbolift. (Posted by Esther) (USS Raven, Bridge, CEO, Lt. (JG) Chenoll, 1031) Chenoll, a female Bolian, walked into the bridge. She saw a tall man and a woman at the Tactical station talking. She politely nodded to them and walked to the Ready Room and hit the door chime. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Raven, Ready Room, Stellar Cartography, Lt. (JG) Chenoll, 1033) Chenoll walked in and saw a human female behind the desk. "GREETINGS! I am Chenoll, of the lovely bald blue race of Bolians! I am very excited to serve on this ship!" and Chenoll let out an obnoxious laugh. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Raven, Deck Four, Crew Quarters, ATAC/ASC Ensign JG Samantha Chandler - 1034) Sam walked into the quarters that she had been assigned to. She looked around. The quarters weren't very big, but they would have to do for the duration of the mission. She walked into the sleeping area and set her bag on the bed. ~I guess my roommate hasn't arrived yet,~ she thought as she noticed that her stuff was the only thing in the quarters. Sam walked back into the living area and sat down at the table that was there. She decided that since there was still some time before the launch that she would remain there for the time being. (Posted by Esther) (USS Raven, Ready room, CO, Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, 1035) Amanda was going through crew manifests when her door chime again sounded. "Enter," she called out and in walked a Bolian woman. "GREETINGS! I am Chenoll, of the lovely bald blue race of Bolians! I am very excited to serve on this ship!" and Chenoll let out an obnoxious laugh. Amanda nodded for a second and then looked straight at Chenoll. The conversation dissipated at that and Leah found her way over to the ops station where she sat down to begin familiarizing herself with the controls. She produced a dataclip from her pocket and inserted it into the side of the console. "Computer, load preset Leah 1." The computer beeped and immediately the console was configured to how she liked it. It was a trick she learned on her last assignment and it saved time. She began catching up on shipboard operations that had occurred before she arrived. The next half an hour flew by as she helped to prepare the ship for launching. John nodded, he could hear it now. ~'Alright boys and girls, this mission, we're going to spend 8 months studying some worthless star!'~ Has Ivanovicha gave out orders to set course to the Tendarii system, she turned to him. Sam began to bring the defense systems online and did a quick check to make sure that they were operational. "Helm, after departure plot coordinates for the Tendarii System, warp 7. Everyone was where they were supposed to be. She pressed the intercom button. "Everyone, please begin final system checks and prepare for departure," stated Amanda happily. She was excited, despite the definite danger they would soon be heading into. She looked around the bridge. This was an odd array, scientist and science minded officers who also had abilities in tactical and other areas of Starfleet. They had been specially picked. "All senior Officers and Senior Chiefs are to meet in my Ready Room 15 minutes after departure." (Reply any) "Helm, after departure plot coordinates for the Tendarii System, warp 7. Amanda watched as their small starship cleared the moorings and exited into space. Drifting free and leaving the yards behind them Amanda felt a rush of exhilaration. She smiled broadly. This was it. The starship she'd asked for specifically, the one she'd left Captaining an Intrepid Class vessel for. They were a new breed of Starfleet scientists, ones that had the ability and craft to take on missions thought too dangerous for normal scientific missions. Amanda watched as the preparations were made to go to warp. Soon the ship lurched forward and went off into the unknown. Amanda rose from her seat and started to walk towards her Ready Room. The captain began to issue orders to other crew members and Leah became focused on her readouts once again. "Captain, the space dock has cleared us and wished us smooth sailing." Leah said not looking up from the console. She felt the ship move gently forward and to the right as it swung around to come face to face with the huge space dock doors. John if I may. This is a highly dangerous mission. There have been numerous Borg sightings in the area," and John felt his heart hit his feet. ~The Borg?!?!~. Ivanovicha kept briefing him. "This ship has so much defensive capabilities because it takes the scientific missions no one else can. We need to make sure the departments are constantly coordinated to be effective against a Borg incursion. Our multiphasic shields and cloak should keep us hidden, but we still have to be on guard." John nodded. No more messing around. They weren't going to fire probes at some star, they were going to do a very serious and dangerous mission. The survival rates against the Borg probably were in the favor of the Borg. John nodded has his CO spoke more. "I can answer some of your questions to a point. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Raven, Ready room, CO, Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, 1207) "Well, sir, I'm just wondering what is our goal on the mission? Just to collect information on them?" John asked. Amanda shook her head for a second, "This is a science ship. I'm sure xenobiology will be interested in the Borg, but we're gathering data from a collapsed star. That makes our mission even more dangerous. A scientist with the Theoretical Warp unit on Starbase Geneva needs the data for tests he's running with harnessing the power of dark matter/antimatter. Its unfortunate that the kind of star he needs is in an area infested with Borg. Hence... its our mission." Amanda looked at her FO for a reaction. This was probably more dangerous than most missions, if not all, he'd been on before. There were Sovereign Class vessels that wouldn't take on something like this. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Raven, Conference room, OPS, LTJG Costello, 1213) Leah stood from her station and walked briskly into the conference room and took a seat at the table. She made sure she was early and after glancing at the chronometer she smiled to herself. Hopefully the captain noticed and those first impressions would be forgotten. After a few minutes all the senior crew were in the room and the captain got underway with the meeting. Leah glanced around looking at all the faces she would come to know well but at the moment she couldn't even put names to the faces she saw. "The Tendarii System, a lifeless system, devoid of class M planets or anything suitable or habitation by standard carbon based life forms," a whirling map of the system displayed in front of them, "In the centre of this system lies a star, but not just any star, one that is dying and compacting, its becoming a black hole. There are vast amounts of so called 'dark energy' being released by this phenomenon. If harnessed and employed, it could become an endless source of energy that could aid us in breaking the Warp 10 threshold safely. That is why the Chief Science Officer aboard Starbase Geneva has asked us to look into it for him. Starfleet agrees as to its importance. It would be a simple, if slightly dangerous mission if not for one variable," Amanda paused as the screen changed and three Borg cubes and two spheres appeared on the screen, "The Borg have been sighted in heavy numbers in that region. Why? We can't figure out." Leah gaped at the image and a pang of fear was in the pit of her stomached. After her father had been assimilated almost 20 years ago in a Borg incursion into the Terran system, the Borg had become one of her most feared races. She snapped back to attention as the captain continued. "There are no life forms that they would deem worthy of assimilation in that region, we can only assume that they are interested in the same phenomenon. Our mission? Gather the information, avoid detection by the Borg and if possible, try to ascertain their reasons for being in that region. Questions?" (Reply any with questions) "Now, on to specific assignments," said Amanda with a grim look, "Doctor Alvaras, I'm sure you understand now, why we need those medical supplies up to date and working for rejecting Borg nano-probes." She loved this shift... it was always so quiet. The day had been mostly uneventful, she was glad to see the crew was getting to know each other. They wouldn't put into Geneva for over a month... they would have to be each other's support systems. She felt herself involuntarily yawn, not having really had a good sleep for a week. Too much excitement. Too much going on. Finally, she walked into her Ready room. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Raven, Ready Room/Quarters, CO, Captain Amanda Ivanovicha, 0205) Amanda entered the Ready Room and looked around. "Convert to quarters," she stated aloud. Seconds later, the table slid into the wall and tottered down at a different location. The basic room arrangement was the same, but now they were quarters. The joys of a small starship. Amanda knew that the Defiant Class ships had a similar arrangement. Sitting down on the edge of the bed, she spoke aloud again. "Captain's Log, Stardate 2406.12.01, we have embarked on our mission at full throttle. It is clear that some of the crew have misgivings about such a dangerous mission, but the Raven is a good ship and should be able to protect us adequately. I am slightly concerned about our Chief Engineer, however I wish to base my apprisal of her on her ability to keep this ship up and running. So far, we are settling into the ship well. I believe it will be necessary to have some form of entertainment tomorrow night in the Lounge. Perhaps a holonovel play? I'll decide as the day goes on." With that, Amanda shut off the lights and fell into a deep sleep for several hours. She was awakened by the feeling of dropping out of warp. ~Whaaa? We can't be there already? John yawned and closed his eyes, then took out a PADD which contained the yesterday's work report of the strange Chief Engineer Bolian. She seemed erratic, almost insane. He planned on meeting with the Captain to see if he could order her to a full mental exam with Dr. Alvaras. "Sir! Look!" The officer at CONN reported. John looked up and saw a small Borg cube coming from aft up behind them. "Bring us out of warp. Ensign Chandler, raise the shields and activate the cloaking device. Mr. Costello I want a sensor lock on the Borg Cube, and take us to Red Alert," John ordered. (reply Chandler, Costello) When the bridge crew was done reporting, almost on cue the Captain chimed in, =^= Mr. Armstrong? Why have we dropped out of warp? Is there a problem? =^= "Sir, we've got a Borg Cube coming quick from behind. I've got the cloaking device on, sir." (reply Ivanovicha, room to expand) "Yes, sir," John reported has the channel closed. The bridge crew watched has the Borg Cube came over the Raven, fully stopped, and began scanning the general area where the Raven was. "Lt. Costello, have they found us?" (reply Costello) Soon, the Borg Cube moved on and went back to its high warp factor towards the Neutron Star. John used his uniform sleave to collect his sweat from his forehead. "All hands, stand down Red Alert," John reported. Armstrong tapped his comm badge. "Armstrong to Ivanovicha, sir, the Borg Cube scanned us and kept heading towards the Neutron Star. The cloaking device kept us hidden. I'd guess it shook up the crew though, shall I kept heading towars the star, sir?" (reply Ivanovicha) "Very good, sir. Bridge out. Conn, resume course and heading. Lt. Costello, please have your sensor readings on the Borg Cube sent to Mr. Callaghan so he can look them over in great length. Ensign Chandler, good work with the cloaking device and shields. Do they meet your Tactical standards?" John asked. (reply Costello and Chandler) John tapped his compin. "Mr. Callaghan, you'll have some sensor data on a Borg Cube coming to you. Please look it over and get a report ready for the captain." (reply Callaghan) When the channel closed, John opened another to Stellar Cartography, "Bridge to Stellar Cartography, please note that we discovered a Borg Vessel coming from 180 degrees around us. Please note it in the offical Federation Starmaps, possibilty of a Borg Transwarp Gate or something." (reply Stellar Cartography, iyw) And when John was finished handing out orders, he sat back and then it hit him, they had been one mistake away from being assimlated. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Raven, Bridge, OPS, LTJG Costello, 0759) Leah had had a rough night sleep and was tired this morning, but she was still alerted enough to see the warning come up on her console. She was about to call out to the FO but the Conn officer beat her to it. "Sir! Look!" Leah let herself glance briefly at the views creen and it confirmed what her sensors were picking up. A small Borg cube loomed on the screen against the backdrop of the stars. "Bring us out of warp. Ensign Chandler, raise the shields and activate the cloaking device. Mr. Costello I want a sensor lock on the Borg Cube, and take us to Red Alert," The first officer ordered. "Red alert confirmed, Sensors locked on target." Leah reported as she tapped panels on her console and the bridge lights went to red and the alarm began to ring out throughout the ship. Meanwhile the captain communicated with the first officer from her quarters to find out what was going on. After the channel had been closed he turned to Leah once again as the Borg cube passed over the top of them and stopped to scan the area. "Lt. Costello, have they found us?" The first officer asked her. "I don't think so. They're holding position baring 033 mark 090 and they're scanning the area. I think they're suspicious but they haven't detected us as yet." Leah reported. All of a sudden the cube powered up and sped off. Leah let out an audible sigh of relief as the cube became nothing more than a spec in the distance. Armstrong reported in with the captain and the ship was sent back to green alert. Leah sat back in her chair rolling her shoulders to relieve the tension that had been building in her neck and back. "Lt. Costello, please have your sensor readings on the Borg Cube sent to Mr. Callaghan so he can look them over in great length." John ordered. "Yes sir." She said and began forwarding the sensor data to the lab. (Posted by Matt) [END OF COMPILE]
