Things went in and didn't come out. Personnel had beamed over and nothing was heard. Now a shuttle had crashed on the station and again nothing was heard. Captains Alexander and T'vor were working on a solution. It would be so much easier if both ships were in the same timeline. They weren't. Then the prime Directive concerning tine travel was producing a dilemma. He had a pal on the Spectre a Seylan named Gronk. They had gone through officer orientation together. NRPG: I can't remember if we're banned from talking to the Spectre. If do delete post. RPG: Hank opened the channel to the Spectre. "Ensign Stevens of the Mithandir I need to speak to Ensign Gronk please" Stevens sent. The reptilian face of his friend Gronk appeared. =^= Gronk here=^= came his friend reply. "Hello my friend. I need your help" Hank asked. =^= How can I help? =^= Gronk replied. Hank thought carefully before answering. " I want to pool our resources and see if there is Something common here " Hank added. =^= Logical Hank=^= Gronk replied. The two men exchanged data. And made an agreement to meet for leave soon. (Reply: Any) (Posted by: Bill W.) NRPG: I took a couple liberties here . First, como has not been re- established and second - and I cannot remember the proper way to indicate a computer speaking. RPG: (USS Mithrandir - Engineering a/CEO -Ensign Hank Stevens - 1906) Hank Stevens was at a standstill. He couldn't figure out what was causing the shifting of the space-time continue. Turning to the replicator he ordered "Coffee strong with cream". Hank couldn't imagine having to grind beans and to brew his favorite beverage. He rubbed the bridge of his nose and closed his tired hazel eyes. His friend Gronk on the Spectre had provided some useful data. It indicated that this was artificially generated. This thought begged the question for what purpose? Another issue was the loss of communications with the Away teams. This artificial 'field' was like sink hole things entered but nothing came back. This was something Hank felt comfortable looking into. Hank quickly programmed his thoughts and generated three dimensional replica of the situation. Thinking out loud he said "Computer given the programmed data can a means be programmed to furnish a reliable communications path?" The computer was silent for a moment before replying [[ Working Ensign......]] Time crawled as Hank waited. [[ There is a 90% probability that can be accomplished ..]] the system responded. Hank sat up straight at that. He considered his next step carefully. With the CEO away he wad acting in her stead. This was far different than being an NCO and following orders. Hank rechecked his results. He then asked the computer "Is it possible to boost the signal somehow to overcome the blackout? " Again a momentary pause as the computer considered the question. [[ Not possible to reply insufficient data...]] came the reply. Hank sighed deeply taking another sip of coffee. He ran his hands thru his close cropped hair. Stevens tried another question. "Computer - if a variable phase discriminator circuit, tuned to the varying phases of the anomaly, were placed in the communications array would transmission be possible? " The lights on the computer control system flashed and the system replied [[ Yes it is probable such an arrangement would work ...]] Hank sat up. This was progress at last. He quickly copied the data onto a pad. Tapping his comm badge asked "Ensign Stevens to the FO . I need to speak with you. I've made a discovery I think will help". (Reply: FO ) (Posted by: Bill W.) (USS Mithrandir - FO Office - FO Lieutenant Syuvik - 1948) Syuvik has been sitting in his chair, fixing the wall of his office for a few minutes now. Through his consciousness was flowing all sort of considerations and reasoning. Words were never sufficient to reveal the complexity of a situation and despite having reread it for the 22th time today, there was nothing specifically clear about how the Temporal Prime Directive applied in their case. The deliberation was going even further. Everyone except him on the ship were sympathetic to the USS Spectre mission and wanted to help them find their own away team. Even the captain himself clearly ordered to cooperate with the USS Spectre and send an away mission on the station. Part of himself wanted to acknowledge the crew values and help the USS Spectre, but his logic was rather recommending they should not get involve with the USS Spectre. The fact the previous away mission crashed was not to make Syuvik sympathethic to the crew cause. The USS Mithrandir could certainly not have people die on the station, as their counterpart in this timeline was out there. His indecisiveness was quite a problem. As a commanding officer, he had not the luxury to be ambivalent and already, he had taken too much time making his mind. He asked the opinion of the crew, but not that he received it, he needed to take a decision and show the confidence in that decision that was required. Now, which one would it be? Helping the USS Spectre or going on their own............ ..... .... "Syuvik to Senior staff, meet me at observation lounge immediately" ----------------------------------- (USS Mithrandir - Observation Lounge - FO Lieutenant Syuvik - 1952) Once everyone has taken place, Syuvik started. "As you have all been aware, I've been assessing the application of the Temporal Prime Directive to our situation to determine what should be our course of action. I must say, it wasn't the easiest rational conclusion I have made, but nevertheless, with all the time spent on thinking about, I am now highly certain positive that it is the logical and only decision that has to be made here. And I know a lot of you we will feel that it is morally wrong and that it is not what we ought to do, but in this matter, Starfleet has already laid the ground for us and their ground has taken into account ethical considerations on every side of the equation before coming up with that directive. The USS Spectre is in need and we are present and capable of helping them, but the Temporal Prime Directive take precedence here, as there are too much risk involved with such a rescue. We can't allow to have only one member of our away team die on the station as it would have terrible effect on the timeline. Helping the Spectre itself is a risk of affecting it as we may very likely change the decision that were suppose to be made if we had not been there. We have no right to modify the future of Starfleet, and if our action can really change the outcome of the USS Spectre mission, then this precisely means we have done something we should have cause we are not suppose to change anything. Therefore I submit you my final decision that we are not going to assist the USS Spectre. Rather, we are going to act as if they weren't there and find on our own way to return to our timeline without taking the risk to send anyone on the station, so without taking the risk to let anyone die here. " Syuvik took a second to take his breath. "Ensign M'elissa, Lieutenant McKenzie, Lieutenant Biggs, Ensign Stevens, we are going to come closer to the core of the phenomena. I want you to gather every information you can on that phenomena and try to find a potential to go back to our timeline. If we repeat the same experience that bring us here, we might be able to return back." (Reply any, iyw ; NRPG: you do not need to answer as this mission will be concluded probably tomorrow) "You are dismissed." (Reply any) ------------------------------------------------- (USS Mithrandir - Bridge - FO Lieutenant Syuvik - 1955) Syuvik walked on the bridge. "Ensign, open a communication with Captain T'vhor." "Captain, I am sure you are aware of the complexity of our situation. After thorough reflections, consultation with my crew, and depthful analysis of the Temporal Prime Directive and it's application to several ships who were caught in similar situation, I could have come to the following logical conclusion, we ought not to assist you in any way as the risks of temporal contamination are too great. I therefore inform you that the USS Mithrandir is going to move a bit away from your ship and we are gonna try to find ourselves the way to return to our own timeline. If not of the Temporal Prime Directive, I would have made a duty and a moral responsability to assist you. But I am sure, as you are a captain who abid by the same Federation guideline, that we ought not to help you." (Reply T'vhor) Once the communication was over, Syuvik went back to his chair. "Ensign, give us some distance from the USS Spectre. Get us on the other side of the station and try to bring us closer to the anomaly." then Syuvik looked at Ops. "Lieutenant Briggs, maximum power to our sensors." (Reply any.....but again.....) (Posted by Nick) (USS Mithandir Engineering Ensign Hank Stevens Day 1 - 2100) Hank was checking the readouts of both Engineering and Operations stations. Something didn't seem quite right. There was a build up of some type of energy at the station. Stevens decided to check a hunch. He instructed the ship's computer to compare the energy reading from their arrival in this time frame to what he just read. "Computer, correlate the readings taken when our ship areived in this timeline with the current readings coming from the station. Are they similar?" Hank ordered. The Computer crunched the data for a few moments. [[Readings are similar Ensign..]] the computer replied. Hank sat up at that. He asked his next question carefully. "Is it possible such an energy signature represents a temporal distortion?" Stevens asked. Again the computer crunched the data and examined the question posed to it. The system took a little longer before it was able to reply. [[Yes There is a 83 percent chance it does ..]] the system replied. Hank Stevens considered his next question very carefully before he asked it. "What is requied to initiate a temporal anomaly ?" Hank asked. The computer system replied [[ A tightly focused Tachyon beam aimed at the center of the ship's original location]] Hank saved his data and tapped his comm badge asking "Ensign Stevens to the First Officer. I think I found a way back to our timeline". (Reply: First Officer) (Posted by Bill) (USS Mithrandir, Bridge, Acting CO Lieutenant Syuvik - 2102) Syuvik was on the bridge, looking over lieutenant Briggs shoulder to have the latest news on what the sensors indicated about the anomaly. Normally, it would have been the captain Alexander to watch over the operation, but the latest news from sickbay wasn't very good. Apparently, his condition was critical. The USS Mithrandir was not equipped with the necessary technology to cure him, and it was imperative to return to their reality within the next 48 hours for him to survive. There was no question of requesting the help of this reality, the Temporal Prime Directive forbidded it. It was therefore all upon the USS Mithrandir crew's shoulder to save their captain life. Hopefully, in a very efficient manner, the science, operation and engineering department had been collaborating to put forward an idea on how to bring the USS Mithrandir back to its timeline, and eventually, a solution would come up. As he reviewed the sensors logs, a communication came in. =/\= Ensign Stevens to the First Officer. I think I found a way back to our time line =/\= "Ensign, the way you are addressing me almost sounds like you are talking to someone else. You can send the data to lieutenant Briggs on Ops. I will look the data from here." (reply Briggs) Syuvik looked carefully at the data. "Interesting. Lieutenant, what do you think of the idea?" (Reply Briggs) "Then I believe we should put it to the test." Opening the communication with ensign Stevens. "Ensign, make the necessary preparation but wait my order" (Reply Stevens) Then, Syuvik moved to his chair and opened a communication with the USS Spectre. "Captain T'vhor. I contact you because in the upcoming minutes or hour, we are going to emit a Tachyon Pulse to create a temporal disruption that, if our calculus are accurate, will allow us to get back to our timeline. I would however recommend you take some distance from the station for a brief period of time to make sure your ship is not affected as well." (Reply T'vhor) (Posted by Nick) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 21:03) The announcement from the Tactical officer regarding an incoming transmission from the Mithrandir, broke the Captain momentarilly from his thoughts regarding Syuviks earlier decision NOT to help them. An eyebrow rising quizzically, he ordered that it be put on screen, his Betazoid intuition prompting that it might be more prudent to leave nobody in any doubt as to what the Mithrandir might now be about to announce. Instantly, the screen changed from it's familiar starfield view, the seemingly derelict research platform hanging listlessly to one side, into that of the Vulcan First Officer, Syuvik, who instantly began to speak. =/\=Captain T'vhor. I contact you because in the upcoming minutes or hour, we are going to emit a Tachyon Pulse to create a temporal disruption that, if our calculus are accurate, will allow us to get back to our timeline. I would however recommend you take some distance from the station for a brief period of time to make sure your ship is not affected as well=/\= The Captain pondered the plan just briefly, for Two point Four seconds to be precise. ~In the upcoming minutes or hour?~ The timespan mentioned seemed most illogical and unprecise for one of Vulcan heritage. The Captain quirked his head slightly to the left, and then he responded, his thoughts drifting once again to Syuviks earlier insistent remarks regarding the Mithrandirs primary concerns, regardless of the risks to the Spectre. To give the man his due though, he had recommended the Spectre to retreat to a safer distance in this instance, still though the Captain had his misgivings. "Are you sure that is a wise course of action Lieutenant?", he asked, instantly putting the Mithrandir's 'Acting CO' on the spot now, although dismissing his earlier indiscretion regarding time. (Reply Syuvik) "Past experience has shown that it is unwise to direct any form of energy at the station in it's current, unexplained state", said the Captain. "Regardless of your simulations, temporal anomolies by their very nature are unpredictable", he added. (Reply Syuvik) "I am fully aware of your predicament Lieutenant, however, due to the situation in this place and the fact that previous attempts involving any form of energy emmision have resulted in further anomolies, I remain uncertain that your plan will return you to the exact time from which you came here", said the Captain, his usual stoic Vulcan charm much in evidence now. (Reply Syuvik) NRPG: Room for more here... (Reply Syuvik, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Mithrandir - Deck One, Main Bridge - COO Lieutenant JG Jason Briggs III - 2104) Jason sat at his console, awaiting the data from engineering. "Whatever this is, its likely we will have to match the exact conditions of however we got here." The console beeped. Jason looked the information over quickly. "Lieutenant Syuvik. Engineering reports we will need to shoot a tachyon beam directly to the coordinates of where we appeared here. Take a look." The Lieutenant looked the data over. "Interesting Lieutenant. What do you think of the idea?" Jason thought for a moment. "This would support what I said before. I'm not the most well versed in temporal mechanics, but it should work, as long as we recreate the conditions exactly." "Then I believe we should put it to the test." Jason nodded. Syuvik ordered engineering to prepare. Jason did the same. (reply Stevens) Jason opened a channel to the Spectre for Lieutenant Syuvik. "Captain T'vhor. I am sorry not to have warned you before as his condition was uncertain, but I confirm to you now that Captain Alexander cannot assume his duty right now for medical reason and I have since taken command of the USS Mithrandir. I contact you because in the following minutes, we are going to emit a Tachyon Pulse to create a temporal disruption that, if our calculus are accurate, will allow us to get back to our timeline. I would however recommend you take some distance from the station for a brief period of time to make sure your ship is not affected as well." (reply T'Vhor) (USS Mithrandir - Bridge - Acting CO, Lieutenant Syuvik - 2105) Syuvik was standing up, looking at Captain T'Vhor. Being acting CO and having to take such decision was sure to be looking at suspiciously by others. A new CO had always to show his skill and that he deserved such promotion, even more since it was not a promotion. But doubts for a new CO was even worst than inexperience. "Are you sure that is a wise course of action Lieutenant?", T'vhor asked. It was a logical question. As Syuvik anticipated the question, the answer was already prepared. "If you means trying our own way, it is what is quite clearly written in Starfleet regulation under the temporal prime directive. If you mean about the tachyon pulse, the probability of success is higher than 50%. I am aware we lack information on temporal anomalies and the computer cannot establish probability with perfect accuracy. But it would be illogical to allow our doubts or fear stops us from taking action. There are risks, but the risks are acceptable. Several ships succeeded returning back to their timeline and all the tests we have made indicate a percentage of success that I judge acceptable despite the probability of error. I have to conclude we must try." "Past experience has shown that it is unwise to direct any form of energy at the station in it's current, unexplained state", said the Captain. "Regardless of your simulations, temporal anomolies by their very nature are unpredictable", he added. "This might seem somehow illogical, but I've looked several ship logs about temporal anomalies. As you know, humans have often a tendency to act illogically and try to get back to their timeline despite the risks. It would have been logical than most of them never made it back, but surprisingly the rate of returning ship is incredibly high despite the lack of knowledge. The reason is still unknown to us, but that doesn't means it is coincidental. There might be a scientific explanation to explain such success.. Even if I can't be sure of it and what it is, I can't deny it either. Having talked with my crew, we are ready to take the risk. The alternative, remaining here for a longer period of time, perhaps forever, increase considerably the risk of timeline contamination. We can't ignore that either. It is not an easy decision, but it nevertheless is for me the most logical decision. I am sure you understand." "I am fully aware of your predicament Lieutenant, however, due to the situation in this place and the fact that previous attempts involving any form of energy emmision have resulted in further anomolies, I remain uncertain that your plan will return you to the exact time from which you came here", said the Captain, his usual stoic Vulcan charm much in evidence now. Syuvik didn't moved or blinked for a second. Confidence was important here....almost as much as logic. "I would lie to say I am certain it would work. I am far from certain. But it remains nevertheless the most logical action. Furthermore, what would be failure most also be taken into consideration. If our ship is destroyed trying, then we will be death, but the timeline will not be affected. If we did not make it back to our timeline and is rather sent in another time period, then we would have more information and have another chance to decide what to do. My main concern is if our attempt has an impact not only on us but on your ship and the station. But the probably of your ship being affected is incredibly low because we have established parameters and security measure to make sure to overestimate rather than underestimate the risk for your crew and ship." Syuvik paused. "However, there is a risk for your crew and your ship, I would not attempt anything without knowing you accept yourselves the risk for you crew. I will send you the data. If you oppose the attempt, I would not made it, captain. I would even say, as you are yourself a Vulcan, I know your decision will be a logical one, taking into account but your and our situation and making an impartial decision.... and will not be an emotional or impartial one so I have full confidence if your own judgement. If my own analysis of the data is accurate, you will come to the same conclusion than I did that the risk are low enough for an attempt to be made. But if my logic is flawed, then I would be more than thankful that you show me were my mistake is." Syuvik looked at lieutenant Briggs so that he send the data to Captain T'vhor. (Reply T'Vhor) (Posted by Nick) (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 21:06) =/\=But if my logic is flawed, then I would be more than thankful that you show me were my mistake is.=/\= The closing reply showed a certain 'logic', if nothing else. Syuvik was a young and relatively inexperienced officer, and as such, T'Vhor felt that the man should be given creedence in regards his commitment to the Mithrandir crew. It wasn't really that his 'Tachyon pulse' plan or logic was flawed, it was more the fact that the unpredictable nature of temporal distortion itself, relegated the entire notion to the realms of supposition and chance... and no Vulcan ever liked to deal with anything less than solid, empirical data. T'Vhor paused briefly as he ratified Syuvik's proposition. It was indeed a wildshot, but that did not mean that it wouldn't work. The Mithrandir Acting CO himself had said that the simulations had erred more on the side of success than failure, and for that at least the young Vulcan deserved some kudos. The Captain quirked his head slightly and then spoke, typically stoic and Vulcan-like as always. "I shall preview your data as requested Lieutenant", said the Captain, "please stand by... Spectre out" The screen had then returned to the familiar starfield vista that had been before, the Captain standing then in order to move to Science two whilst requesting that the data be made available directly at that location. (Reply Tactical, IYW) NRPG: More to come... (Reply Tactical, IYW. We are ready up here. If you are available in engineering, deflector control can be taken care of. Shall we get at it together?=/\= Hank quickly replied " Sure thing Lieutenant Briggs - I'll be there in five minutes." (Reply: Briggs ) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Spectre - Bridge - CO, Captain T'Vhor - 21:15) The Captain returned briskly to the centre chair, his fingers immediately running across the armrest console as he directed the helm and tactical stations accordingly. "Helm, withdraw to One thousand kilometres and stand by for further orders. Tactical, maintain sensor sweeps on the station and report any anomolous readings concurrent with reciprocation of temporal stasis. Inform me the moment the variables begin to vary.... as indeed they will", said the Captain. (Reply Smith, Harper) "Open a channel to the Mithrandir please", he stated, settling back into his chair now after having input the required data via the console at his right hand. (Reply Tactical, Syuvik) All at once, the viewscreen transformed once again, the face of Lieutenant Syuvik appearing upon it. "Lieutenant, I have reviewed your data as requested", said the Captain, "The data is sound. Although the margin for error is still substantial, you may begin with your plan the moment the Spectre reaches safe distance of an extra One thousand kilometres" (Reply Syuvik) The Captain nodded accordingly. "I wish you and your crew well Mr Syuvik and trust that your temporal destination is not too far from your intended one", said the Captain. He then raised his hand in the familiar Vulcan manner, spread between the four fingers. "Live long, and prosper" (Reply Syuvik, Any) The Captain then watched as the viewscreen became filled with stars and an apparently derelict station once again. "Master Chief Petty Officer Harper", said the Captain, turning now to face the tactical officer on this occasion. "I am aware of course that our away teams may not hear any warning regarding the tachyon emmisions onto the station. However, I want you to transmit the Mithrandir's intent on all frequencies and bands for the next five minutes. Hopefully, they may yet hear something if they are continuing to monitor" (Reply Harper) The Captain then ordered his crew to brace for possible disruptions that might shake the ship via a general shipwide announcement, whilst the ship took up station at the required distance. (Reply Smith, Harper, Syuvik, Any) (Posted by Alan) (USS Mithrandir - Bridge - Acting CO Lieutenant Syuvik - 2117) (Reply Briggs (NRPG: about the Spectre moving away)) The fact the USS Spectre was moving away predicated that captain T'vhor had maybe approved the Mithrandir plan. That was a good news. "Thanks Lieutenant." Just as he said that, Syuvik received a communication from the USS Spectre. "On screen." The image of captain T'vhor appeared on the screen. =/\= Lieutenant, I have reviewed your data as requested.......The data is sound. Although the margin for error is still substantial, you may begin with your plan the moment the Spectre reaches safe distance of an extra One thousand kilometres =/\= Syuvik nodded "Captain T'vhor, despite the Temporal Prime Directive prevented us from assisting you, it was an honor working with you and I would add, that I now know from first hand experience that the USS Spectre has an excellent captain. To speak like our human friends, if things would have been otherwise, I would have certainly taken profits of a Vulcan mentor and captain such as you." The Captain nodded accordingly. =/\= I wish you and your crew well Mr Syuvik and trust that your temporal destination is not too far from your intended one =/\= T'vhor then raised his hand in the familiar Vulcan manner, spread between the four fingers. =/\= Live long, and prosper =/\= Syuvik returned the blessing of prosperity. "Live long and prosper as well, captain" As the communication ended, Syuvik calculated that the USS Spectre would be one thousand kilometer away in approximately 15 seconds. As they were not ready to begin yet, they could start right away. Syuvik turned towards lieutenant Briggs. "Lieutenant, Captain T'vhor support your and Ensign Stevens finding. As soon as you are all ready, we are going to try it. Make the necessary preparation." (Reply Briggs) (Posted by Nick) (USS Mithrandir - Main Bridge - COO Jason Briggs III - 2120) As he made the needed modifications on the bridge, Jason took note the next step of modification. (reply Syuvik) ------------------------------------------- (USS Mithrandir - Deflector Control - COO Lieutenant Jason Briggs III - 2125) Meandering into deflector control, Jason brought up the first set of calculations and took note of the needed beginning adjustments. When Stevens walked in, Jason motioned for him to come to the console. "Hank, isn't it? I looked over your calculations, and I've begun the necessary adjustments." Jason pointed to a small part of the calculations. "I have here all the sensor logs from our initial trip to this timeline. I've taken into account for the displacement. "Right, let's finish up here and get this show on the road. Hopefully we have a future waiting for us," he said chuckling. Jason made the final adjustments as required by the calculations. When finished, he nodded to Stevens. "When we get back to real time, shall we go for a drink? I'm sure we will get some kind of shore leave after this....at least, one could only hope." As he finished, he waited for the order. As the tachyon pulse collided with the particle around the station, the reports where coming through (Reply Briggs, McKenzie, Stevens, M'elissa) "Acknowledge" said Syuvik. For the moment, things were going as planned. A temporal fissure was starting to open, still too small for the USS Mithrandir to go through. But then the events started to radically change. Syuvik looked at lieutenant McKenzie and at Briggs. "Lieutenants?!?!?" (Reply McKenzie, Briggs...... put your own explanation/recommendation.... and what your characters do to compensate) Syuvik knew the time was precious and they needed to react fast. Things were not going as planned and the drastic increase in the energy build up was becoming a serious concern. Despite the efforts of his crew, the situation was not changing. "Lieutenants, do you recommend aborting?" (Reply any) "Abort!" said Syuvik. (Reply any) But it was too late, the energy build-up suddenly moved towards the USS Mithrandir. The sensors started going crazy and the shields and deflectors reacted strangely to the contact of the energy. The temporal fissure then opened considerably in a few seconds and the energy rushed into the hole. As the USS Mithrandir was in its trajectory, without any engine on, the ship got transported by the tachyon-energy wave into the anomaly at a warp-like speed. For a few seconds, Syuvik looked at the situation powerless. The apprehension of the ship being torn apart was high, but the situation was such unanticipated that Syuvik was inconclusive about what they should be doing. While still deliberating, the USS Mithrandir speed finally started to decrease and in a spectacular but very brief moment, the ship had got out of the anomaly. In front of the USS Mithrandir, real space was becoming visible in the view screen. (USS Mithrandir - Deck One, Main Bridge - COO Lieutenant Jason Briggs III - 2202) As the time to take a really big risk came ever so much closer, Jason knew that as soon as he initiated the Tachyon pulse, one of four things would happen. On one point, they could be sent back to their own timeline, his obvious first option. Another option was that their involvement in this timeline would somehow effect the future and they would be in some sort of alternate timeline. The third option is for nothing to happen, in essence all the work he and Stevens did would be for naught. And finally, they could be sucked into some time vortex and be put out of their misery very quickly. The thought of any of the negative three made Jason feel a little nervous and cold, though he couldn't help but consider the possibility that altering the timeline could be a positive thing. At this point, it would still be a roll of the dice. The order came and he intiated the pulse. As soon as the beam hit the phenomenon, the power in the Mithrandir went haywire. Conduits blew, needed rerouting, and blew again. With the ship status being at red alert, which was typical of this situation, all crew were at their needed posts and power rerouting took a lot less time. Consoles beeped all around the bridge and the sound of the alarm rang throughout the ship. It shook violently as it was sucked into the vortex that would hopefully send them home. Suddenly, the worst possible thing happened. "Lieutenant, we are losing power to the main deflector. I am attempting to compensate." Jason moved over the keyboard as quickly as he could, rerouting power to the deflector array. "With your permission, Lieutenant." Jason tapped his commbadge. =/\=Briggs to engineering, the fissure is too small. Put everything into the deflector array, we have to bust it open, otherwise this is going to be a short trip.=/\= (Reply M'Elissa, Stevens) Jason saw the power flow rapidly change from system to system as it was rerouted by those in engineering. While he had control of most systems, the engineers were the ones who could work directly with the systems. It was certainly a more direct approach. The tachyon beam intensified and the temporal fissure widened. It still wasn't quite big enough to fit the Luna class ship through, but it was getting there. The rift, however, still had its effects on the ship. All power was being diverted to the deflector array, except for life support, shields, structural integrity, and the impulse drive. So far, all was going as expected. But things suddenly took a turn for the worse. "Lieutenants!" Jason shook his head. "I don't know sir. Power is being drained again. The rift is still not big enough, but the energy coming from the fissure is having some strange reaction to the ship. What do you make of it McKenzie?" (reply McKenzie) "We have to abort! The energy fluctuations are far off any predictions we came up with. I don't think the ship can take it," Jason said quite loud. "Abort!" said Syuvik. But it was too late. Even with cutting engine power and the tachyon beam, the energy from the beam was enough to carry them in. The latent energy spiked and the fissure quickly expanded. It was now large enough for the Mithrandir to fit through, but at this point, everyone knew that it was highly likely the ship wouldn't make it. No longer in control of the ship, Jason sat back and held on. The Mithrandir shook and rattled as it passed through the fissure. Conduits exploded, consoles erupted with energy spikes, and smoke filled the bridge. The crew was knocked about in all directions. As the shaking got much more violent, Jason dared to take a look at his console. Damage and injury reports began to appear from all over the ship. Sections of the ship were starting to crack, causing microfractures all around the ship. The shields were failing and structural integrity seemed to be non-existent. Jason truly didn't know what was holding the ship together. As it passed even farther into the fissure, the Mith took a violent leap and Jason was knocked from his chair. He rolled over on the floor, winded. The ship shook violently and the nothing. (USS Mithrandir - Deck One, Engineering - CEO Ens M'Elissa - 2203) =/\=Briggs to engineering, the fissure is too small. Put everything into the deflector array, we have to bust it open, otherwise this is going to be a short trip.=/\= M"Elissa cursed, she was already sending damage repair teams to the blown conduits, "Im working on it" she then began frantically diverting power from all non essential systems, shutting down all the empty cargo bays and sending the alert to get the rest evacuated, all empty rooms were also shut down, replicators, transporter systems, she was also trying to keep Inertial Dampeners and structual integrity fields at maximum, she also set the Aux power to Maximum, bolstering the mains, "Thats all i can give ya" The tachyon beam intensified and the temporal fissure widened. The cursing continued in engineering, and M'Elissa was getting dirty looks from a few of the techs, "I need you in section 12 the conduit blew there and that one is critical, as soon as this is over fix it" shaking her head, and yelling, " keep those forcefields in place, we dont want any.... deaths, not on my watch" then things got much worse, she clung to the main console infront of her, digging her claws into the seam around the console, with a tap she shut the power to the engineering consoles and reduced hers to Minimal power, "Seen this before, bloody technology," she watched helplessly as a couple of the main supply conduits blew apart, "get those closed, down" the next violent jolt made her grip fail and she banged her head on the edge of the panel, more expletives, followed, "Never again," she growled, "as the ship suddenly stopped. (USS Mithrandir - Bridge Engineering Station - Ensign Hank Strvens a/CEO - 2204) Hank crossed his fingers out of habit ad Briggs initiated the Tachyon beam. For a few moments nothing seemed to happened things then went into high gear. The Mithandir wad drawn into the opening rift. As it left the Specter's time a giant invisible fist like force grabbed the ship and shook it like a dog would its toy. Hank routed all extra energy to the shields and initerial dampeners on the orders of the chief engineer an operations officers. That helped some. The breaking thrusters kicked in and the Mith slowed. ---------------------------- (USS Mithrandir - Main Bridge - COO Lieutenant JG Jason Briggs III - 2233) "Full stop," ordered Syuvik. "Report." Jason got up, his left arm at his side. It was broken. With his right hand, he looked at all the damage reports and was the first to respond. "Lieutenant. There are hull breaches on Decks four, seven, and ten, microfractures everywhere. We haven't lost anybody from Ops, but I'm counting twelve injuries at least." (reply everyone else) After appearing to contemplate the situation, Syuvik said, ""We are all alive. Now let's calm down and assess the situation...... Lieutenant Briggs and McKenzie, can you confirm our current stardate and location?" Jason initated the astrometic scan. "Astrometrics indicate star patterns are concurrent with last known positions on stardate 2414.09.11. Confirm?" he asked, looking in McKenzie's direction. (reply McKenzie, Syuvik) Jason's arm hurt. He would need to go to sickbay soon, becuase the pain was getting intense. He was happy they made it to 2414, no matter how much pain it caused. "Lieutenant Briggs" said Syuvik while, at the same time, opening a communication with ensign M'elissa. "Ensign, as your knowledge of starfleet communication protocol has been useful, I want you to work with Lieutenant Briggs to reestablish our communication with starfleet. If the link as already been established, I want you two to copy our current database somewhere safe, and then update a new version with the latest information from starfleet. Then, check if it correlates with what we have. In other words, I want to be sure we our in our own timeline." Jason nodded. "Aye sir, with your permission, I'll do this in ops. We will have an easier time down there." (reply Syuvik) Jason tapped his commbadge. =/\= Briggs to Ensign M'Elissa, come up to Ops. We can work there. Give me a ten minutes, I need to stop by sickbay." (reply M'Elissa) He approached the turbolift at a quickened pace and walked right into the unopening doors, bumping his head. The lifts were down. Jason looked at his arm and hung his head, knowing that he was going to have to climb. ~Oh come on....~he thought to himself as he tapped his comm. =/\= M'Elissa.....make that twenty minutes....=/\= (USS Mithrandir - Main Bridge - CEO Ens M'Elissa (1 - 2235) "Lieutenant Briggs" said Syuvik while, at the same time, opening a communication with ensign M'elissa. The deck below him was finally still. ~What was that~ He surveyed the room, everyone was regaining their bearings. "Everyone in tact?" He projected to the small medical staff on duty. Kurt noticed a sharp pain on his lower lip, he touched his index finger to it… blood. ~How did I manage that?~ The doors to sickbay flew open. =^= Palmer to Shepard, report to sickbay immediately.=^= (Reply, Shepard) Within a matter of minutes sickbay was filled. Kurt walked over to an unconscious woman who had just been set down. He scanned her, and injected her with a hypospray. He was moving on as a badly injured lieutenant staggered in. Kurt immediately moved to help him to an available place to sit. Kurt scanned him then felt the officer's arm… "broken arm, contusions, and a hairline fracture on your lower parietal ridge." He turned to the nearest nurse "7 cc's of terakine." The lieutenant spoke up "Its just a broken arm doc, give me sling and call me when you aren't busy. I'm in no rush." He injected the lieutenant. "In any other circumstance you would be sating put. Luckily for you we are very busy. Report back within 12 hours, Doctors orders." Kurt picked up his tricorder. "Also sir, and the less you disturb your arm right now the less work we'll have to do later." He barely finished hearing the lieutenant promise not to move his arm or something before he was called across sickbay. Kurt scanned the heavily bleeding man on the bio bed. "Cordrazine, 6 cc's." ~Its amazing how so many people can injure themselves so terribly in just a few minutes of turbulence.~ Kurt injected the man, his vitals slowly came back to normal. "Severe concussion, If he is not awake in 10 minutes come get myself of Dr. Shepard." He proceeded to the next bed. (Reply, Shepard) (Posted by Cody) (USS Mithrandir - Deck Nine, Sickbay - COO Lieutenant JG Jason Briggs III - 2249) Jason was certain that this had to be a record. Climbing down six decks with numerous bumps, bruises, cuts, and scrapes, plus a painfully broken left arm, was absolute murder. He had slipped on ladders twice, falling on his already broken arm once, and cried out in pain more times than he would ever admit to anyone on the ship. Fifteen minutes was all it took....give or take a few minutes. Yes, fifteen was a good number. Sickbay was a mad house. Apparently, there were slightly more than the twelve operations officers in sickbay. Many of the biobeds had more than one person on them. There were several people who appeared to need extensive surgery. Most of those in sickbay were much worse off than Jason. Nevertheless, one of the doctors approached him. (reply Palmer or Shepard, whoever wants it) "Its just a broken arm doc, give me sling and call me when you aren't busy. I'm in no rush." (reply Palmer or Shepard) Jason chuckled. "I promise I won't move it." He walked out of sickbay to make the two deck climb up to the operations center on deck seven. The jefferies tubes were certainly his friend today. --------------------------------------------------- (USS Mithrandir - Deck Seven - COO Lieutenant JG Jason Briggs III - 2300) Jason bit his lip in response to the pain as he opened the Deck Seven jeffries tube door nearest to the ops center. The air was a little thin, likely due to the hull breach that was somewhere on this deck. The ops center was near the edge of the ship, by the bulkhead. On his way down the littered corridor, he saw many crewman helping eacher to medics on the seventh deck. Crews were already working on repairs and morale was obviously low. He reached the door to the operations center and had to open it manually. As he peered through door, he saw the worst sight an operations officer could bear. The hull breach was in the ops center. Half the computer consoles were gone and most of the rest were charred and unusable. There were a couple that appeared intact, though offline. He took a few spare power cells from a locker nearby and set one up next the first computer. As he brough it online, he downloaded the information as requested. He then disconnected the unit from the main computer core and isolated it. (reply M'Elissa, you may walk in at any point in my "work" and get right to it.) Next, Jason attached the other power cells to the other two computers. He isolated the first one, in which he quickly devised a program to analyze the data and run comparisions. On the other computer, he routed the system through to the transceiver array to make a manual uplink. As he tried, he saw the power spike and the console died. "This one is shot. There must be a problem up in the communcations assembly." Jason looked down at his arm then back at M'Elissa. "Do you mind? I'll stay here and a thrid compute running so when you are finished we can go right ahead with the uplink. The thirf computer will run the comparision analysis." (reply M'Elissa) As she left, he got to work on the last computer. Much time had passed, and today was certainly going to be a long day. (reply just about everybody) (posted by Micah Jackson) (USS Mithrandir - Deck Seven - CEO Ensign SG M’Elissa - 2302) M'Elissa entered ops, "you always have to do things the hard way, dont you" as she came up next to jason she watched him work, and shook her head, Next, Jason attached the other power cells to the other two computers. The third computer will run the comparision analysis." activating the console next to her, "i took the liberty of isolating the second main computer core, we can update the main one, then use this to compare data, the back up computer was offline during the jump, she grinned, had to get some of your power from somewhere, i just need to get a few hard links fixed on our main core and we will have full access to ships data, As she left, he got to work on the last computer. Much time had passed, and today was certainly going to be a long day. as M'Elissa left, "i will rerout a secure connection to both cores here and we will be able to run that comparison, or do you want it sent somewhere else", she sighed, "the communications array, now that is gonna be a problem, it got fried before i could shut it down to reroute power, back ups are also toast, i have my best working on that one, so in about an hour we should be able to run the comparison, you ok with that?" swishing her tail she dissapeared into the bowels of the ship, whistling as she went (Reply Biggs) (posted by Shaylee) Intermission : Slipstream/In Honor of Pyong Ko Day: 1/ -21 Stardate : 2414.09.11 (USS Mithrandir - Bridge - Acting CO Lieutenant Syuvik - 0233) "Full stop.......Report" said Syuvik. (Reply everyone, I give you the liberty to decide about damage and casualty....but I would prefer if damage and injuries were low). Syuvik tried to process all the information which was coming as a rush. The situation certainly surprised and caught off guard everyone and it was to be expected that everyone needed a few seconds before being able to 'digest' what just happened. Syuvik could feel the adrenaline having increased and stress taken over. The crew was professional and composed well under pressure, but it was nevertheless obvious that it was nevertheless high. In fact, as Syuvik never completed the Kolinahr, he was himself a little affected by the latest event. He knew he needed to relax and for his logic and self-control to take over and suppress the feelings that started to build up in him. Syuvik stood up. "We are all alive. Now let's calm down and assess the situation...... Lieutenant Briggs and McKenzie, can you confirm our current stardate and location?" Syuvik waited for the answer. (Reply Briggs, McKenzie) Hearing that they succeeded returning in their timeline was a very good news. However, Syuvik was still intrigued by the impact of being not exactly back to the exact moment they were caught by the anomaly one day ago. There was the possibility they were currently not in the good universe. In other words, I want to be sure we our in our own timeline." (Reply Briggs and M'elissa) Syuvik then thought it would be safer, considering the location and uncertainty about the universe they were in, to activate the cloak device. At least this way, they would avoid some of the surprise. He opened a communication with ensign Stevens. "Is our ship in condition to activate the cloak?" (Reply Stevens) "Okay. And has soon as you have a complete report, send it to me." (Reply Stevens) Syuvik ended the communication. "Lieutenant Zyahn, bring the cloak online." "Yes sir." Syuvik was also still waiting for the complete medical report. Injuries took some time to report and it was to be expected that the complete report would take time. (Posted by Nick) (USS Mithrandir - Bridge - a/CEO Ensign Hank Stevens - 0236) The shaking stopped as the ship did. The individual departments regained their senses and initiated departmental system checks as well as personnel injuries. LT Syuvik issued orders to several of the bridge personnel. Hank waited and was ordered to check the ship's cloaking system. 'Cloaking system is functional Sir. Available on command" Stevens replied. (Reply: LT. Suyvik) ( Posted by: Bill W.)
