" The Admiral nodded and followed the Science Officer across the room. "Here it is Admiral, if you say what your are looking for, I could help you more, without false modesty I'm quite an expert with Databases." "What's your name, Ensign?", asked the Ambassador and upon an answer he said, "I have to complete the database first, I am not quite sure what I am looking for." He sat down with some effort at the uncomfortable Starfleet issue seating but looking back at the Science Officer. "However, I will let you know.", he said returning to face the console screen. After a moment or two, he was typing in commands to create the new database. "Computer, create a cultural database referencing all known interspecies encounters over the past 1,000 years." << For which region of space? >> "Show me the designated area of Starbase Geneva's final location." On the other screen, the area of space showed up. "For this area upto a radius of 100 light years.", he said to the computer. << Working, request will take 2 hours to initialise. >> He stood up and logged off his computer terminal, Sh'Rok headed out of the Science Lab and for some early lunch, he was eager to see what the Humans had on the menu. (USS Spectre, Ten Forward, AMB, Admiral Sh'Rok - 12.30) << Database now ready >> The Vulcan was just finishing up his meal, for the past few hours he had been watching the crew come in and out of the recreational area, at his age, he wasn't in a rush to do anything, let alone, walk miles around the ship. His PADD accessed the database. the information appeared in a summary form. He guessed it was time to get to know a few people. "Ambassador Sh'Rok to Commander Lono, Commander, may I have a few moments of your time when its convenient?" (Reply from Lono) "Very well, thank you Commander.", he said in a very logical tone. "Ambassador Sh'Rok to Ensign Tyrell, if that offer is still open, Ensign, I have some data I would like you to examine for me, can you meet me in 10-Forward?" As he waited for a reply, the Admiral looked again at the data, if it was true, the Spectre was facing more trouble than just a few unhappy and unhelpful native species to this area of space. (Reply from Lono, Tyrell, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Night's Watch - Bridge - Capt Richard Ian Lee - 13.15) =^=Hello there Richard, good to see you. What are you doing in this neck of the woods? =^= Rich tapped his fingers on the chair, "I needed groceries, and I crave a word with you later. Our orders have us escorting you for the time being, just so we can catch up on old times." =^=Well, if you'd care to follow us, we are a few hours away from the coordinates at warp 6. follow us!=^= "Will do. 'Watch out." The screen cut off, leaving him facing a shot of the incoming star, still highly distant on the screen. He mused for a few moments after the Operations officer said "Sir, Spectre is cloaking." Finally he sighed. "Stand down from yellow alert and cloak the ship." "Cloak the ship, aye Sir." his ops officer intoned. The ship's yellow blinkers shut off, thankfully the klaxons themselves had been off for some time. "Set course and engage at a healthy distance from the Spectre, Warp six." he added. "Aye Sir, set course at warp six." replied the CONN. "Engage." (USS Night's Watch - Bridge - Capt Richard Ian Lee - 1531) "One class H, with odd energy signatures. Nothing else of particular note. Standard post-creation system." Richard folded his hands together, "Collect backup information, but keep a fair distance. I want a constant watch on the Spectre until I have a chance to..." He was interrupted by the Tactical officer. "Ships decloaking!" Rich, long since trained in combat, both in his own universe and in this one, turned in the chair and flipped down the arm-guards in one fluid motion. He called out "Red Alert, All hands to battle stations!" just as the first flashes of light filled the screen. Several ships of a configuration he didn't immediately recognize started firing on each other. "Hot damn, were on the spot. Back us off, BACK US OFF!" he bellowed into the sudden confusion. The Cloak of the Night's Watch suddenly spluttered and failed, in the presence of so much high-energy, and the ship itself was thrown to the side by the shockwave of a large ship exploding. "Cloak is down, shields down 10%!" yelled the Tactical officer, a moment later Operations chimed in with "Minimal damage to multiple decks, cloak is down!" The ship shuddered again, "We are being targeted!" his Tactical officer said again immediately. "Like Hell!" Rich growled, "Target the first ship that fires at us, start broadcasting as friendlies... Move it!" The hails started going out, but it didn't do anything immediately. The ship rocked as it took fire, high energy proton bursts meant to disrupt energy shields. The 'Watch shrugged off the first few attacks, she was a Battleship and this was her element. Rich grasped the arm-rests, "Bring us about, get us the hell out of this system!" "Sir, the Spectre is falling into the planets upper-atmosphere!" Rich cursed, as his ship shuddered again. "No help for it," he muttered. "That's it, I'm tired of this s*it already. Full impulse, push us ahead and target the closest ship firing at us, mark distance and bearing!" he said, much louder. "231 mark 10, distance six hundred kilometers!" was the immediate reply. Like a Warlord of old, Rich grinned evilly with hardly disguised malice and leaned forward. "Target all phasers and quantum torpedoes, target to disable. Clear us a path... Weapons free, fire at will!" The nose of the 'Watch turned deceptively slow, and her weapons batteries remained silent for several long moments. Then like the fury of a storm, each of her powerful XII phaser banks opened up, and a storm of rapid-shot quantum torpedoes fired in specific patterns, each weapons specifically targeted at what appeared to be the engineering and shields of the target vessel. The enemy ship's hull buckled, and its batteries fell silent as the Night's Watch slipped passed at full impulse. Rich leaned back in his chair and looked at his own personal monitor. "Get us around the planet, trade fire with any ship that hits us." he ordered shortly, just before tapping a button. "Bridge to engineering, give us all the power you have to engines, we're breaking through!" No one answered, Rich would have been dismayed if they had, they had their hands full. The ship received an extra jolt to the engines though, and she started pulling away from the battle-at-large. "Status of the Spectre?" Rich barked, at anyone listening. Several moments passed, then "She is moving away, from the other size of the planet! Her cloak is down, but she appears largely undamaged." his Science officer said. Rich turned his attention briefly back to the battle as the 'Watch traded fire briefly with another vessel, then turned his attention back to the science officer. "The *other* side of the planet?" he asked in confusion. "Spectre has a phase cloak, Sir." came the quick reply. "That figures," Rich muttered as the enemy ships finally started ignoring his ship, and started concentrating once again on whatever they had been doing before. "Keep a close watch on those ships, they aren't likely to think well of us after trading fire. Keep us moving, get us to the Spectre." (reply: any) (posted by Trout) <(-)><<<<<<<<<<<-> }))*(({ <->>>>>>>>>>>><(-)> ~Jeremy Trout (Uss Spectre, Bridge - Ensign Horacio Tyrell - 15:30) Following the Captain's orders, Horacio was going to send a few sensor probes to scan the class H planet and her neighborhood when the ship was caught in some sort of battle. ~ Oh no, not again, isn't it possible on this ship to have a quiet trip for once ~ moaned Horacio in grabbing his console as the ship was hit by a huge shockwave, pushing her into a low orbit of the planet. The Spectre began to enter the upper atmosphere under an unconventional trajectory, Horacio heard the TAC/SC spoke about the cloack device then the statement of the SFI agent about it "Captain such a course of action would be inadvisable, the spatial anomaly is flooding this sector with Anyon particles; we will be unable to achieve a transpahsic state and the exertion may be sufficient to further damage the Spectre." Horacio took the floor to say " I agree with Commander Soval, Sir, it wouldn't be advisable, if I remember on stardate 2404.09.03 anyon particles were used by Starbase 23 to render visible our sister ship, the Uss Wraith during a simulation attack , but I've perhaps an idea, I've got a few probes ready to launch, I can use them to emit chroniton particles all around the ship, it would perhaps thwart the effects of the anyon particles." (Reply Remae, any on bridge, any) (Posted by Patrick Buidin) --- (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 15.45) "Captain such a course of action would be inadvisable, the spatial anomaly is flooding this sector with Anyon particles; we will be unable to achieve a transpahsic state and the exertion may be sufficient to further damage the Spectre." "I agree with Commander Soval, Sir, it wouldn't be advisable, if I remember on Stardate 2404.09.03 Anyon particles were used by Starbase 23 to render visible our sister ship, the USS Wraith during a simulation attack, but I've perhaps an idea, I've got a few probes ready to launch, I can use them to emit chronotron particles all around the ship, it would perhaps thwart the effects of the anyon particles." The Spectre was hurtling down towards the surface of the planet, her nose closed red and even redder, the glow of the impulse engines fighting to get control of the ship as she decelerated from the speed of impulse power. Remae considered the plan as the CONN officer was fighting with the thrusters to get point the ship away from the planet, he was succeeding slowly, the nose of the ship was angling away from the surface but it was painstaking slow. He turned his head towards the First Officer but she wasn't there! Where did she go? "Pierce, where did the Commander go", said Remae as the viewscreen continued to show the approaching surface. (Reply from Orde) "Never mind, we've got bigger problems. Bridge to Engineering. report?" (Reply from Peabody) The impulse engines were running at 150% but it wasn't enough. The nearest guess said they had 10 minutes till impact, at best. "All hands, this is the Captain, abandon ship, repeat. head for the escape pods and abandon ship, Pierce, you go too, take care of them and try to land somewhere on the surface, the remaining Bridge crew will try and phase cloak the ship and make it through to the other side, then we'll come and get you." (Reply from anyone) "Ensign Tyrell, launch probes and begin to emit the chronotrons and prepare to bring the phase cloak online, Soval, help him." (Reply from Soval, Tyrell) Escape pods began to launch as the crew of over 100 began to leave, the pods were designed for this scenario, they would either land intact on the surface or even some of them might make it into orbit. (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 16.00) All the pods were away, said someone and Remae ordered sensor fixes to be placed on the pods, for later, if there was going to be a later. "Standby on the phase cloak, we'll have to transfer power. on my mark.", said Remae as he sat back down on his chair. In this time, they had also been monitoring events in orbit, Captain's Lee had been battling the alien ships, and they would have to worry about that later. "Engage the cloak.", he said as the surface welcomed the Spectre with its flatness. The Spectre disappeared but from the Bridge, the surface appeared and then disappeared from the viewscreen as the ship entered the upper layers of the planet's surface, soon after passing through the core, she headed out of the other side. Like a giant pendulum, the ship had slowed down a great deal since passing through the core and when she finally emerged from the other side; she was hardly moving at all. Just on cue, the cloak failed, the Rear Drive Coil Assembly failed and impulse power went offline and the ship fell onto the surface with a satisfying thud. Luckily, she didn't fall far and the hull took the impact well, all things considered. (Reply from All) (Posted by Anthony Keen) <>
