Jack Wylde, their newly famous science chief, was working on the images that had been flashing through the window. He was becoming annoyed with the object in front of them. It was taunting them, giving no answers and watching them silently. Wylde wasn't about to allow that to happen. He had taken to talking to the annoying object, bringing some smiles to those on the bridge. Peabody was infamous for the same thing. Suddenly Wylde stood and shouted to the helm. "HELM! FULL REVERSE!" The helm officer jumped and followed the command without question. Peabody jumped and turned to him with a face full of suprise, but simply let it pass. He trusted his crew, more than anything in this world. Or the next. The USS Lion went into emergency reverse, her stablizers screaming. Wylde shouted from the rear of the bridge. "Increasing power output from the portal!" Peabody cursed several people. "ALL HANDS, BRACE FOR IMPACT!" And the world went white. Mission: Unknown Country, Day 3 Stardate: 2406.05.12 (USS Lion, Bridge, ACEO Peabody - 15.00) Walter Peabody growled. He wasn't pleased with his position or the position of his ship. The bridge smelled of smoke, fire and sparks. Cries for help erupted from the corners of the room while the lights flickered in and out of power. The USS Lion had escaped destruction, only to spin the midst of space. "Report!" His call came on deaf ears, until a loud curse was heard from the tactical area. "Hell of a way to start a new command Peabody! I expect more from you! Don't ever do this again!" Walter pulled himself up. The bridge was in disarray and people were slowly picking themselves up from the floor. He looked at Kevel and shrugged. Both men moved to thier respective areas. Peabody moved back to his chair. "Damage report?" It wasn't anything that would disable them, but there was some areas shaken up. The Lion had managed to hold her own, for the most part. "Wylde, find out what the hell that was and tell me how to kick it in the head." A chortle was all he got, but it told him Wylde was alive. For the most part. (USS Lion - ACEO Peabody- Bridge- 1600) "Captain, hail from the Captain..." Peabody waved it through. ^Gentleman, we've lost contact with the Away Team, probably something to do with the time-displacement we just had, we lost over 24 hours because of something that is going down there, and I want to know what it is. can you position your ships for short range scans of the planet?^ The Galdrial replied she would do it as well, and Peabody grinned and looked to Jack Wylde. The USS Lion was the perfect patsy for such an assignment. "Confirmed Sir, we're on it. Lion out." He turned to the main screen. "Helm, carefully get us closer to the planet. Get our sensors boosted. Let's see if we can find our friends." The Lion moved in closer and began to search. (USS Lion- ACEO Peabody- Bridge - 1915) ^Galadriel to Apollo. Captain Remae, may I suggest that Galadriel take up sentry duty outside of that portal? We're better suited to doing so.^ The traffic caught Walter's ear. They had been searching for hours and hours and still nothing was coming. The Doc was becoming frustrated with the entire ordeal and was ready to simply walk down there himself. When he had an idea. "Wylde, how much of a danger is it if we go planetside with the Lion?" The younger science officer shrugged and began to work it out. A moment or two later he came back. "It's not dangerous, as long as we stay there for only a short time." Peabody nodded. "Mr. Wylde, get on the horn with the captain and let him know you plans. The Lion can take the heat, I know her." Wylde nodded and tapped his console. "Jack Wylde from USS Lion calling for Captain Remae Ktell, USS Apollo..." (reply Ktell, any) (posted by adelay) <> (Planet's surface, near partially-built structure, 13:10) These aliens were not of the same type that kidnapped Kahila, in their other reality. ~Pierce, have you seen this type of being before?~ She inwardly asked, having empathically felt a sense of recognition from him. The three beings motioned for Kahila to throw her phaser onto the sand, then her equipment pack. Reluctantly, she did so -- hoping that Pierce might, as he often did, literally have something up his sleeve. Maybe even one of those ball berrings that 'Havoc' so conveniently carried. As she put the pack down, she glanced across her shoulder, looking for Ensign Meyron. But, as he was located outside of the barrier when the time-change happened, he wasn't visible to her. She and Pierce were directed to follow one of the aliens inside the structure itself. Then they were motioned to what she assumed was a lift -- and it did serve that function, yet startled her, as it operated by an invisible field, and it looked to her as though they were gliding down on a raft of air. Just before they reached their landing, Kahila saw, on a floor where a wide door was opened, a bank of consoles -- and standing at the controls, was an alien of yet another species. ~So, there's more than one kind involved.~ A few moments later, the invisible floor stopped, and their captor led them to an empty room, motioned them into it, and activated a forcefield around them. Kahila spoke softly and quickly, "Pierce, they've already build some sort of controls into this place. If that equipment controls the time gates that were flashing -- when we watched from the Apollo, this could be our chance to select our reality, and hold the gate open. Of course -- that is, if we find a way out of this room, and back up the lift - overpower that odd-looking alien, and learn how to operate the equipment." She smiled wryly. "Not so many 'ifs' , are there?" reply Pierce, any alien personas posted by Josephine Goodman <> (USS Galadriel: Bridge - Captain Pierce Horatio Orde - 1600) Captain Orde found himself on his own feet, visiting each station like a honeybee in search of pollen. The results were not to his liking in the least. "Sir, Apollo requests that we take up station around the planet and commit short-range scans. She's missing an Away Team," his Tactical officer reported. Orde cursed softly. "Bring us into orbit and find those crew," he ordered. "Transmit our intents to Spectre." "Aye, sir." (USS Galadriel: Bridge - Captain Pierce Horatio Orde - 1915) Orde, like a ghost, hadn't left his bridge. "Captain, Apollo wishes to know our status." his Number One told him. "Tell them we haven't found anything. Forget that -- hail them." "Hailing, sir." "Galadriel to Apollo. Captain Remae, may I suggest that Galadriel take up sentry duty outside of that portal? Octan stared wide-eyed at the scene in front of him, giving Ro a cursory glance to see what she made of it. He was glad that she didn't ask too many questions, but trusted his judgement in bringing them here. The viewscreen in front of them showed at least three ships in the area, the Apollo, Galadriel and Lion. In addition to this, a glowing portal seemed to have appeared, with shifting scenes that Octan supposed must be different realities. Octan remembered the planet from the Spectre's 'previous' visit, but even the planet surface seemed to have changed and there was no sign of the warring ships from 'before'. He wondered what Ro was making of all of this, because she would have no 'memory' of being here before. Octan stopped, midthought. Why was it that he had a memory of another reality and not Ro? Why didn't she 'remember' anything of another life? None of this made sense, but Octan knew who would have the answers. "Computer, where is Admiral Doenitz?" "Unknown," came the monotone reply. That was impossible! "What do you mean? You said he was in this sector!" Octan exclaimed. "Please wait. Computing." What? Wait? Octan had never had to wait for a computer in his life. "Computer," he began. "Please wait. Computing." Octan turned to Ro, noticing the same bemused expresion on her face. Suddenly she seemed to come to a decision, turning to the CONN. "Take us closer to that portal," she said. Octan watched as the Spectre moved closer to the shifting portal. "Captain," the Communications officer spoke up, "the Apollo is hailing us." "On screen," Ro replied. Octan was startled to see the image of Remae Ktell appear. ~What is he doing here?~ he thought, but then it occured to him that Remae must be after the same thing he is. =^=This is Admiral Remae Ktell of the USS Apollo, and you are?=^= "Captain Ro Kaelyn, USS Spectre," Ro replied. "You seem to be in demand, Admiral Remae. We received subspace messages about you." Remae smiled. =^=Ah, yes. But we are here for the same reason that Octan is, I think. Found anything?=^= he turned his gaze on Octan. "Not yet," Octan replied, "but I think that Doenitz is involved and that portal might be the key. Doenitz is supposed to be here." =^=Where?=^= "Computer?" "Please wait. Computing" "Octan, this isn't important," Ro spoke up. "Let's arrest this Admiral Remae and get back to our previous mission." "Not important!?" Octan was shocked. "What about that portal? Doenitz?" "Admiral Doenitz is Commander of Starfleet. We should follow his instructions," Ro replied. Now Octan knew something was wrong. Why would Ro Kaelyn, freedom fighter, rebel be so submissive? Why didn't she have any memory of a previous life? There was only one way to test this. Octan jumped forward and grabbed the helm controls, pushing the CONN aside. The Spectre suddenly lurched as it sped towards the portal at full impulse power. There was a flash and it disappeared. The Spectre dropped out of warp into chaos. Wait! Something was wrong! "Don't you have a feeling of deja vu?" he asked Ro. "What are you talking about?" Ro replied. "Let's arrest the Apollo and get out of here." "Why?" Octan asked, even more confused than he had been before. "Doenitz gave the order," Ro said. "Computer, where is Admiral Doenitz," Octan tried again. "Please wait. Computing." Everything was going haywire. The portal didn't lead anywhere, Octan now knew. It just put them in a time loop. But even so, if he could remember, why couldn't Ro? It was obvious that Remae could remember something too.Why was she acting weird? Why wouldn't the computer work? Where was Doenitz? These thoughts muddled around in Octan's head. It was logical to assume that only the original Spectre crewmembers had any memory of the previous reality. Octan smiled, realising he sounded like Soval. They had been assuming that this was an alternate reality. But shouldn't other people have an alternate reality too then? Maybe this wasn't real at all! Could it be that easy? "Computer, end program." "Please wait. Computing." Well, that didn't work. Suddenly, Octan thought of something. "Spectre to Apollo." Remae appeared on the viewscreen. "Captain Remae," Octan said, purposefully not calling him Admiral, so that Remae would know. "When you appeared in this 'reality', did you have anything on you like your communicator?" Remae answered in the affirmative. "Okay, this is going to sound stupid, but this is what I want you to do." Octan quickly outlayed his theory to Remae, who listened intently. When he had finished, Remae took out his communicator, strengthened it's signal and spoke three words. (Unknown place, Holodeck, CSO Octan, 20:00) The Spectre disappeared. The planet vanished as did the Apollo, Galdriel and Lion. Space faded, to be replaced by the black and yellow of a holodeck. Octan glanced around him. All the Spectre crewmembers were there, looking confused. Octan saw Remae to one side. "Hello Captain, welcome back," he said with a wry smile. Remae knew part of the theory already, so Octan just added what was needed: "Someone put us in this holodeck somehow, gave us the lives they thought we would want, after having scanned us, and hoped we would be stuck here forever. Why, I don't know. Maybe to get us out of the way. I still think Doenitz might be involved. "Anyway, I think we are still somewhere on that planet and the Spectre must be nearby. We should try to get to her, before they figure out that we escaped their trap." (Reply from Remae, All) (Posted by Arnaud Malherbe) <>
