I’m also not overly keen on having people cut me up, to be honest. Is there any chance that this could heal on it’s own over time?” tapped Paul. She sighed, knowing it must be annoying to be helpless and do nothing all because of a loss of working vocal chords. Frankly, she was tired of arguing with him. ~These starship captain's are all the same.~ "I suppose we could stand here all day deciding on what to do." She looked and could see the hope in Paul's eyes. "Alright fine. We'll get you back on your feet and get you on of here today. But.....if anything happens, your butt goes right back on that bed." <> She knew she was using this tone of voice with the captain, but she didn't want to take any chances. She hoped he wouldn't take her too seriously as to be portraying insubordination. ~I remember when I used to be the same way.~ She realized no matter, even if you used to be a doctor, things never changed. "I'll contact an engineer and we'll get this on the road." (Posted by: Stacey) (Starbase Geneva - Diplomatic centre - Council Member Madon - 1000) Madon initiated a closed communication with both Gul Damok & Glinn Bokat the moment she arrived back in her quarters. Bokat however was the only one to respond leaving Madon wondering just where Damok might be. ”There has been a development, one that might further our aims beyond what we could have imagined.” (Reply Bokat) ”It has come to my knowledge that we have an Admiral on board the station, we may have to factor this into our overall plans.” (Reply Bokat) ”An Admiral would be a worthy addition to our cause Bokat, you know this as well as I, this could give us untold access to areas we might not have attained beforehand, places off this station perhaps as I doubt if he will remain here for too long.” (Reply Bokat) =/\=We need to discuss this further, meet me on the Reklar as soon as you finish what you are doing=/\= (Reply Bokat, IYW) ”I was wondering also, have you seen Damok, he is not answering his call.” (Reply Bokat) Madon then left her quarters & headed straight for the Reklar. (Posted by Alan Reading) (CUS Reklar- Deck 8, Lab- FO, Glinn Bokat - 1001) Bokat was putting the finishing touches on his newest little toy, the hand held device was a marvel of electronics and one would be made for each of their people going on to Geneva, it was designed to be hard wired into the replicators and carried in its memory the proper data for the replication of the food that the symbiotes would need even though using the bodies of the Cardassians. The units would override normal programming and show a Cardassian dish being prepped, this would deflect any suspicion while taking care of their needs. He had been chosen for his rank for this mission but his skill with electronic devices was proving to be an added bonus, he was getting ready to calibrate the interphasic circuitry when his com unit sounded. =/\=There has been a development, one that might further our aims beyond what we could have imagined=/\= He activated the com unit. "And what would that development be Councilor?" He asked dryly. =/\=It has come to my knowledge that we have an Admiral on board the station, we may have to factor this into our overall plans=/\= Bokat's face screwed up into a smile. ~An Admiral? Indeed!~ "That is an interesting development Councilor, one to which we should devote our efforts in my opinion." =/\=An Admiral would be a worthy addition to our cause Bokat, you know this as well as I, this could give us untold access to areas we might not have attained beforehand, places off this station perhaps as I doubt if he will remain here for too long=/\= "We should make our move quickly then." Bokat mood was heightened by this news, if they could integrate the Admiral it would give their plans great impetus. =/\=We need to discuss this further, meet me on the Reklar as soon as you finish what you are doing=/\= "I am on the Reklar now Councilor, I will meet you in the briefing room in ten minutes." =/\=I was wondering also, have you seen Damok, he is not answering his call=/\= Bokat grinned at that one. "He is having a private dinner with the Arcturan ambassador Councilor, she seems to have taken a fancy to him. As you know it is considered bad form to divide ones attention when with one of this species, they get highly irate it is said. He turned off his com unit to accommodate her." Bokat chuckled at that. The Arcturans were a recent find in the beta quadrant and very demanding of ones attention, Damok's easy manner seemed to attract females of several species, Bokat was too stern and brooding to make such a target which fit his plans for now. (Posted by Charles Gatling) (CUS Reklar-Briefing Room, Lab- FO, Glinn Bokat - 1010) Bokat looked up as the Councilor came through the door. "Tell me more about this Admiral councilor." he said with a smile on his face. (Posted by Charles) (CUS Reklar - Briefing Room - FO, Glinn Bokat -1011) "I have done a little research on this myself", said a smiling Madon. "It turns out that he is actually a rear Admiral, he has returned to Geneva from a place unknown to me at this time but he is the chief medical officer on board this station no less although what he is doing in active service on a posting is quite beyond me." "Many things having to do with rank on this station are a mystery to me." Bokat mused. "What is his species?" "He is Caitan", said Madon, "I don`t know a great deal of this species other than they are covered in fur, this however is of no consequence to our plans, the symbiant will take well as it does with all bipedal species", she added. "Once infected, the rear Admiral will be a valuable asset I’m sure you agree", said Madon. Bokat smiled again. "The doors to such an implant would be thrown wide open Madon, there would be no place closed to us, the only question is when and where." "As diplomats aboard the Geneva station, it is just a matter of time before we inevitably meet up with Rear Admiral Gr’iann", said Madon, "We must however act sooner, rather than later on this one, it is a chance that should not be wasted", she added then walked to an observation window to look out as she contemplated the opportunity. "Tell me Bokat", said Madon without turning "How would you go about arranging a meeting with this new.....", she added, "Target", she said with a smile on her face as she turned. "The most logical plan which would allow the least interference would be to pretend there was a new strain of disease that had broken out upon the Reklar, the Admiral being in Medical would wish to see to it himself. His curiosity would get the better of him I am sure." He allowed the smile to dim now as the plan became clearer. "He would be ours here." "I agree. On another note entirely, I have spoken with the others on the home world", she added. "More symbiants will be transported to the Geneva station the moment we are entrenched into their command structure", said Madon, turning briefly to gaze out at the stars once again before returning to her seat opposite Bokat. "We are few Bokat, but soon we will be many", said Madon. "This station will fall to us & you will be acknowledged as being amongst the first to topple it’s foundations", she added resting back into the chair with a self satisfied smile as she did so. "I can’t help but wonder though just how Gul Damok is faring with his female friend", said Madon as the smile returned to Bokat’s face. "You should smile more often Bokat", said Madon, "It becomes you", she added. Bokat gave her an intense look. "When we have the Admiral you will see the smile upon my face again." (Reply: Madon) "As for Damok." he added now. "I am sure he is doing admirably. The ambassador seemed quite taken with him." (Reply: Madon) Bokat held the device he had fabricated toward her. "I have not had a chance to test this yet but it is for the stations replicators. If successful I will make more for all of us. It will be hard-wired to the replicator in your room and give you the nourishment you crave and need while bypassing the stations control systems. It will leave no clue as to our true identity." (Posted by Charles) (CUS Reklar - Briefing Room - Council Member Madon - 1012) Madon was in high spirits now, this new development was indeed a chance that could not be missed, the question now however, was how they would instigate a course of action that would bring the Admiral into their presence alone. Immediately she had arrived on the Reklar, she made tracks for the briefing room & the waiting Glinn Bokat therein. Bokat looked up from what he was doing the moment the Councilor came through the door looking as infused as she. "Tell me more about this Admiral councilor." he said with a smile on his face. Madon moved to sit down opposite Bokat & then she looked deviously over towards him. "I have done a little research on this myself", said Madon smiling. "It turns out that he is actually a rear Admiral, he has returned to Geneva from a place unknown to me at this time but he is the chief medical officer on board this station no less", said Madon, "although what he is doing in active service on a posting is quite beyond me", she added. (Reply Bokat) "As diplomats aboard the Geneva station, it is just a matter of time before we inevitably meet up with Rear Admiral Gr’iann", said Madon, "We must however act sooner, rather than later on this one, it is a chance that should not be wasted", she added rising now from her chair & walking to one of the Reklars observation ports to gaze out into the black void of space. "Tell me Bokat", said Madon without turning her attention from the vista before her. "How would you go about arranging a meeting with this new.....", she added, pausing now to choose her word. "Target", said Madon turning around now with a smile fixed firmly upon her face. (Reply Bokat) "I agree", said Madon, "On another note entirely, I have spoken with the others on the home world", she added. "More symbiants will be transported to the Geneva station the moment we are entrenched into their command structure", said Madon, turning briefly to gaze out at the stars once again before returning to her seat opposite Glinn Bokat. "I can’t help but wonder though just how Gul Damok is faring with his female friend", said Madon, noticing the uncharacteristic smile beginning to appear on Bokat`s face at her words. "You should smile more often Bokat", said Madon, "It becomes you", she added. Bokat however was not the kind of Cardassian to smile too much & Madon knew it. (Posted by Alan Reading) (CUS Reklar - Briefing Room - FO, Glinn Bokat -1013) "Are you still able to tap into their security systems Bokat?", The councilor asked. ~A fair question.~ Bokat thought. "Yes Madon I can, what information would you like me to get for you?" "Good, see if you can find out a little more of the Caitan`s background", said Madon, "If he is a Geneva crewmember then he must have a detailed file somewhere in the stations computer system, perhaps it will show the kind of bait he is most likely to want to follow", she added. Bokat nodded. "Easily done. I shall have it for you by 1500 hours. Is there anything else? As for Damok. I am sure he is doing admirably. The ambassador seemed quite taken with him." He then showed her the device he had made and told her of its use.. "Excellent", said Madon, "you are certainly a Cardassian of many talents Bokat, this slop they serve us does leave a lot to be desired", she added as she handed the device back to him. "I have little knowledge of such things however, so I will trust you to incorporate it into the required systems", Bokat settled back in his chair as well. "It will take little effort, as have the other things I have already done. If this works as I believe it will it will take little time to make more." He looked over at Madon. "How many of the symbiants is the home world prepared to release to us? You never said for sure. It would be good to have an idea how many we can count on." (Reply: Madon) Bokat grunted. "Good. That is very good." He looked at the chronometer. "I had best be installing this now councilor, you will be the first one to test it." (Reply: Madon) "It will take no more than a half hour, after that their systems if checked will tell them you are ordering Cardassian food, but we will know better." Bokat winked and turned for the door. (Posted by Charles) (CUS Reklar - Briefing Room - Council Member Madon -1014) "How many of the symbiants is the home world prepared to release to us? You never said for sure", said Glinn Bokat. "It would be good to have an idea how many we can count on." "In time, enough to populate this station", said Madon, "Once we have control of the senior personnel, we will be able to initiate the second phase with ease", she added. "Phase three will then follow at our leisure", said Madon. Bokat grunted. "Good. That is very good." He looked at the chronometer. "I had best be installing this now councilor, you will be the first one to test it." ~That did not sound good at all~ Madon eyed Bokat curiously at this remark. "This device of yours IS safe isn’t it Bokat?", she asked. (Reply Bokat) "I would not take it too lightly to be considered little more than a guinea pig in one of your untried experiments", said Madon. "How long will it take before it can go online?", she asked. "It will take no more than a half hour, after that their systems if checked will tell them you are ordering Cardassian food, but we will know better." Bokat winked and turned for the door. Madon watched as Bokat left the room before then standing herself to follow him, by the time she had exited the briefing room though, the ultra efficient Cardassian Glinn had disappeared. As Madon prepared to leave the Reklar however, something caught her eye as she walked towards the boarding ramp. At first she thought that it might have been something that had been dropped by one of the Cardassian crew, but on closer examination, she realised that one of the vessels deck plates had been replaced haphazardly to leave one of it’s edges slightly proud of the other plates mating surface. Madon stopped & crouched down to take a closer look, touching the plates edge as she did so to cause it to fall back immediately into place. ~Tamin~, thought Madon. ~So this is how you managed to avoid detection~ Madon stood upright once again, her face now showing her irritation at the thought of the meddling Obsidian operative & then she walked quickly on, leaving the Reklar to enter the station once more with thoughts of how best to deal with him. (Posted by Alan Reading) (CUS Reklar - Briefing Room - Council Member Madon -1017) "When we have the Admiral you will see the smile upon my face again.", said Glinn Bokat. Madon paused in thought once again before replying, then she sat up straight in her chair, leaning both arms upon the table as she did so. "Are you still able to tap into their security systems Bokat?", said Madon. (Reply Bokat) "Good, see if you can find out a little more of the Caitan`s background", said Madon, "If he is a Geneva crewmember then he must have a detailed file somewhere in the stations computer system, perhaps it will show the kind of bait he is most likely to want to follow", she added. (Reply Bokat, IYW) "As for Damok." said Glinn Bokat. "I am sure he is doing admirably. The ambassador seemed quite taken with him." Madon simply smiled again at the thought of the amorous Gul in the clutches of this unknown female. Then all at once, she noticed that Bokat was now retrieving a device of some kind from the bag he had carried into the meeting room with him. Bokat held the device he had fabricated toward her as she eyed it curiously. "I have not had a chance to test this yet but it is for the stations replicators. If successful I will make more for all of us. It will be hard-wired to the replicator in your room and give you the nourishment you crave and need while bypassing the stations control systems. It will leave no clue as to our true identity." Madon took the device from him & scrutinized it further. "Excellent", said Madon, "you are certainly a Cardassian of many talents Bokat, this slop they serve us does leave a lot to be desired", she added as she handed the device back to him. "I have little knowledge of such things however, so I will trust you to incorporate it into the required systems", said Madon settling back once more into the relative comfort of her chair. (Posted by Alan Reading) (Starbase Geneva - Public Arboretum - Council Member Madon - 1035) Council Member Madon was quite unsure now as to why she had come to this place. She had been here once before of course & at that time, it had stirred a memory from her distant past that she felt a need to understand better. Seated upon one of the comfortable benches provided, she surveyed the surrounding area & vegetation as others milled about slowly amongst the grass & water featured vista therein. Madon`s mind had been on Tamin all the way there, the very thought of him infuriated her no end, he was a regular fly in their ointment & one that needed to be dealt with sooner rather than later. ~I wonder how Bokat is doing~ Sitting here now though, she allowed her eyes to close just for a while as she attempted to locate whatever it was that dwelled within her that seemed to be so strangely familiar about this location. Images drifted slowly through the dark veil that had been fixed in her mind to float as though almost in suspended animation as she sat quiet & unmoving. A child sitting upon the grass absentmindedly running a stick through a small aqua clear pool of water as she smiled down into it. A clear blue sky & the warmth of the sun upon her face. A small red fish swimming in the pool as she reached down into the water to touch it. She felt peaceful, calm, at one with the universe. But then came the harsher images, the cruel beatings at the hands of others, tears of frustration & suffering, pain & the feelings of not quite knowing why it was all happening. The feelings invaded Madon`s mind in a manner almost as though the happy thoughts were to be pushed aside by some dark entity standing in the shadows. The child of course was Madon although this fact continued to elude her at this time, the memories dampened as they were by the symbiant now residing within her. Frustrated at the memories, Madon opened her eyes once again to see the people going about their activities around her. Some were Geneva crewmembers, some were hand in hand & others just sat & gazed just as she was now, lost within some dreamy state that had taken them briefly away from whatever rigours had faced them in their normal everyday lives. ~This is ridiculous~ Madon stood abruptly to shake the images from her mind, Tamin entered it once again in response & she then turned about to leave the Arboretum behind to return to her Diplomatic quarters. (Posted by Alan Reading) (Starbase Geneva - Crawlway junction four - Obsidian Order Member - Glinn Tamin - 1115) Tamin quietly crept along the crawlway. Slowly he made his way to a terminal junction and pulled the control panel off. Tamin worked in silence and darkness, linking the equivalent to a PADD into the main computer. Within seconds he had accessed the security computer, nothing deep, nothing classified, just the general databanks. It was then that he uploaded the file. He uploaded the Obsidian Order information about the earth infestation of several years ago. The small creatures that had infiltrated Starfleet Command and been stopped by then Commander William Riker and Captain Jean-Luc Picard. The file was in Cardassian and would immediately register in the security station computers. Tamin hoped that they'd be able to decrypt it and catch the clue before it was too late. Tamin had no desire to come into direct contact with either Federation people or his own at the moment. He knew his skills and knew he could remain as part of the woodwork indefinitely. His work complete, Tamin wiped and sanitized the panel and replaced it carefully. He then continued down the crawlway. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (Starbase Geneva - Security, ATAC ensign Dorrin Klars - 1116) Dorrin had his head down on his desk pounding it in frustration over feeling like a five year old. Here he was, ATAC of Geneva, and he could not get up and confront Beurform. It ate away ate him, but every time he tried he thought of something else that he had to do. It did not take long for him to realize that he was simply scared of seeing Beurform. He was Dorrin's greatest hate, and fear. It was a realization that came reluctantly but inevitably. He hated himself for it but he simply could not make himself stand up and go to the brig. He was also afraid that if he ever did, if he ever saw him again, Dorrin would commit an irreversible action. It was in this time of self-agony that the computer alerted him to something strange. Apparently someone uploaded a file into the security databanks and the file was in what Dorrin recognized as Cardassian. That was not the thing that was most troubling, what was, was the fact that someone was actually hacking the security databanks. ~I swear if this is another security personnel who is doing this I am going to give every one an interrogation.~ But first thing first he tapped his combadge "Dorrin Klars to Counselor Rogers and ensign Chandler, sir we got a rather large problem you should get down to security right away as well as Ensign Chandler." (Reply Rogers, Chandler) Once they were both in security Dorrin quickly outline what had just happened. He turned to Rogers "Sir, I suggest me and ensign Chandler turn our efforts to finding out how the databanks were hacked, and that you get someone on translating the file." (posted by Dan Black) (Starbase Geneva, Briefing Room, ATAC/ASC Ensign JG Samantha Chandler - 1315) After Mackenzie gave her report, Rogers turned to her and Klars and said, "Alright, Ensigns Chandler and Klars, do you wish to present your findings on the investigation so far?" Sam looked over towards Klars. She decided to go ahead and present their findings. "Well, we did connect the two bombings to each other, when searching Lt. Casely's quarters. We found two similar devices, one at each of the sites," Sam said handing him the PADD with their findings on it. "We also have a Petty Officer 3rd Class Dale Allenby in the brig. He is the one that made the attempt on Lt. Casely's life. We believe that he is most likely the one who set the bombs." (Reply Rogers) Sam looked over to Klars to see if he had anything to add to her report. (Posted by Esther) (Starbase Geneva, Briefing room, ACEO Ensign SG McLaren, 1316) As Sam and Klars gave their reports Matthew sat back into his chair. For the first time that day he was able to relax a bit but all of a sudden Brian addressed him. "Alright, Ensign McLaren, how are the repairs coming on the docking bay and Lt. Casely's quarters?" Brian said. Matthew snapped back to full attention and spoke up. "The repairs are complete. I put a high priority on it so we spent most of the night working on them too. But its all back together." Matthew reported. "I also have been thinking of a way to detect these bombs before they are armed." Matthew said, wondering if he should go on. "At the moment the station's internal sensors only are running on a passive scan which fails to pick up devices like that, but if I rigged them so that they were on a constant active scan we would pick up a palm phaser being powered." He said trying to illustrate his point. (Reply Rogers) He had another idea but wasn't sure if Brian wanted him to continue. He wasn't really the nervous type but he felt quite inferior to all these other people. So he hesitated but then plunged in. "And I was also wondering if it would be a good idea to update all the security protocols throughout the computer system, and also on the restricted areas, if someone can get into Lieutenant Casely's quarters and plant a bomb, who knows what Doenitz could do with the right information." He said. (posted by Matt) (Starbase Geneva, Briefing Room, COUNS/A3O, Ensign {SG} Brian Rogers, 1317) Brian listened to Chandler's report and nodded. "Anything else to add Ensign Klars?" (reply Klars) "Alright, Ensign McLaren, how are the repairs coming on the docking bay and Lt. Casely's quarters?" Brian said, turning to Matt, listening to him. (reply McLaren) "Ensign Marta, would you like to tell us about your 'meeting' with Mr. Allenby?" (Posted by Kevin Schram) (Starbase Geneva, Observation Lounge, COUNS/A3O, Ensign {SG} Brian Rogers, 1321) Brian listened to everybody’s report and nodded. "Well, good work everyone. Keep up it up. Does anybody have anything else to add?" (reply any) "It that case, you're dismissed," Brian said has everybody got up and left the room. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (Starbase Geneva - Briefing Room - COUNS - Lieutenant(JG) Kassia Marta - 1325) Kass had listened to everyone that had a report to give, but, she was still worried about Brian. His reaction to what she had said to him was not really what she had expected and that worried her. It was if she had just complimented him, not insulted him. But, what she had said was correct from a counselor's point of view in his rash decisions he had been making. Most from what she had heard had been good ones, but, the changing of his mind so quickly is not one of a person in command. She had watched others in command who only made a decision based on available information. They rarely had to change their minds unless they had not all the information needed. Kass was brought back to the meeting when Brian asked if Dorrin had anything else to add. Dorrin had not liked Brian from the beginning and to have him now placed as acting Second Officer must be eating him alive. She decided that she really needed to continue with his counseling sessions. (reply Klars) "Alright, Ensign McLaren, how are the repairs coming on the docking bay and Lt. Casely's quarters?" Brian said. (reply McLaren) After McLaren finished, Brian turned to her, "Ensign Marta, would you like to tell us about your 'meeting' with Mr. Allenby?" She looked at Brian for a moment trying to decide what to really tell him. "Well, Mr. Allenby, blames Lt. Casely for the death of his father. He then worked his way into being able to get an assignment on Geneva in security. He then worked his way to where he could be in any place he wanted and that is how he got to where he could attempt the assassination." Kass had finished with her knowledge that she could back up, but, she wanted to continue with her conjecture. "I believe, and this is only based on my discussion with another person, that Allenby is part of, fully or partly, the Humans for Humanity group. I believe he joined it so they could help him get close to Lt. Casely. Although Allenby did not say anything specific to charge him with, just the way he acted and the things he said guide me to my conclusion. That is all I have." (posted by Frank) (Starbase Geneva, Briefing Room, ATAC ensign Dorrin Klars - 1327) After Mackenzie gave her report, Rogers turned to her and Klars and said, "Alright, Ensigns Chandler and Klars, do you wish to present your findings on the investigation so far?" Dorrin was about to report buy Chandler beat him to it. We believe that he is most likely the one who set the bombs." Dorrin nodded, that was a good report clear, and to the point. Brian listened to Chandler's report and nodded. "Anything else to add Ensign Klars?" "No sir, she outlined the situation exactly as it is," he replied. Normally he would be thinking of a thousand ways he could make his report more sarcastic but right now his mind was occupied, maybe he needed to see Marta. Dorrin did not listen to the report on the engines to closely but did at the report on Allenby made by Marta. "Well, Mr. Allenby, blames Lt. Casely for the death of his father. He then worked his way into being able to get an assignment on Geneva in security. He then worked his way to where he could be in any place he wanted and that is how he got to where he could attempt the assassination. I believe, and this is only based on my discussion with another person, that Allenby is part of, fully or partly, the Humans for Humanity group. I believe he joined it so they could help him get close to Lt. Casely. Although Allenby did not say anything specific to charge him with, just the way he acted and the things he said guide me to my conclusion. That is all I have." Dorrin's face was briefly one of fury that someone could become security personnel and rise without an extensive background check. That would change of this moment! (Posted by Dan Black) (Starbase Geneva, COUNS Office, COUNS/A3O, Ensign {SG} Brian Rogers, 1341) Brian entered the office and walked over to the desk and sat down, and put his face in his hands. He had been overwhelmed lately and was falling behind in everything. He was starting to wonder if Ensign Marta was right. ~Well, when you hit rock bottom the only way to go is up.~ Brian thought, before tapping his comm badge. "Rogers to Ensign McLaren, I need to see you in my office for psych evaluations. When is a good time?" Brian asked. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (Starbase Geneva, Chief engineers office, ACEO Ensign SG McLaren, 1342) Matthew stormed into his office and slammed his PADDs down onto the desk. His ideas for security upgrades had more or less gone unnoticed and combining that with his lack of sleep he wasn't very happy. He dropped into the chair bumping his knee on the way down. He was in the process of letting loose a profanity when his badge chirped. ~God dam it. what?~ =^=Rogers to Ensign McLaren, I need to see you in my office for psych evaluations. When is a good time?=^= Brian asked. "Can we do it after my shift, I’m flat out sir. Would 1700 be ok?" Matthew asked not really caring if it was or not. "Sounds good, Ensign. Rogers out. =^= Brian said, has the channel closed. Brian then looked around and saw that nobody really needed him in a counselor fashion, so he would act has the acting third officer. Brian stood up and walked out of the office. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (Starbase Geneva-Medical Center-CMO Admiral Gr'iann -1347) Gr'iann was a little frustrated from the meeting. It seemed to him that time could have been better served by him actually examining Paul Casely, himself. This exploratory surgery that Kaitlyn seemed so anxious to do, was extreme. So as soon as the meeting broke he headed for Main Medical. He went through the doors, ignoring all who dared to get in his way. He had no time to exchange pleasantries. He wanted to know what was wrong with Paul, before his assistant decided to find out the hard way. Casely looked up as Gr'iann approached. The Caitian smiled and placed a paw on the FO's forehead. "Rrelax Paul,. I'm going to find out what the prroblemm with yourr voice is, once and forr all." (reply Casely) Looking at the reports he could see why Kaitlyn was so frustrated. There appeared to be no reason for the symptoms he was displaying. He pulled up a chair and began to purr to himself as he went through the chart more thoroughly, line by line. His tail began to curl and uncurl as he read. Then he went even further back, to the report of the bombing, and where they found Casely lying. There was something that caught his eye. He suddenly stood up and leaned over Paul. His paw came up and began to rub Casely's neck and throat. "Hmmm...." he said absently, "innterrresting...." Paul's eyes were wide with curiosity. "Just checking forr sommething," Gr'iann winked. "Does this hurrt?" Casely shook his head no. Then Gr'iann's probing fingers went down the side of his throat, and moved at an odd angle. Suddenly Casely gagged and sat up, pushing the doctor's paw away. "Ahhhh," he smiled, "now that hurt?" (reply Casely) "I amm sorrry mmy frriend," Gr'iann was sincere, "but I think I mmay know what the prroblem is. Is therre a rrecorrding of the bommbing of yourr office?" Casely nodded, still rubbing his throat. "Don't go anywherre." Gr'iann went into his office. "Commputerr, access the securrity footage of Lt. Casley's office at the timme of the bommbing. Authorrization, Admmirral Gr'iann, catnip 3." He sat and began to watch the whole event. Then he went back and watched different angles. Finally he froze a frame, where a piece of metal struck his throat, right behind the larynx. That was the cause. There was no nerve damage, but he definitely was damage to his larynx. Repairing this kind of damage would be almost as difficult as the exploratory surgery that Kaitlyn had planned, but less invasive. When Mackenzie arrived in medical he called her into his office. "I want you to watch this." (posted by Al Muir) (Starbase Geneva-Medical Center- FO/TAC/SC Lieutenant {SG} Paul Casely -1348) Paul looked straight up at the ceiling. He was getting a bit frustrated with things and wondered when the device he had asked built would be ready. Things on the station seemed to be slightly more out of control than he liked it. He couldn't blame anyone for that, an odd set of circumstances had placed them where they were at the moment. Paul watched as the Caitian doctor walked in. The Caitian smiled and placed a paw on the FO's forehead. "Rrelax Paul,. I'm going to find out what the prroblemm with yourr voice is, once and forr all." Paul tapped on his PADD, "That would be nice Admiral, I really need to get back to work." "Hmmm...." he said absently, "innterrresting...." Paul's felt his eyes go wide with curiousity. "Just checking forr sommething," Gr'iann winked. "Does this hurrt?" ~No pain~ thought Paul, shaking his head no. Then Gr'iann's probing fingers went down the side of his throat, and moved at an odd angle. Suddenly Paul couldn't help the gag reflex that overtook him. He sat bolt up right and pushed Gr'iann's paw away from him. "Ahhhh," he smiled, "now that hurt?" "Better believe it!" tapped Paul furiously on the PADD. "I amm sorrry mmy frriend," Gr'iann was sincere, "but I think I mmay know what the prroblem is. Is therre a rrecorrding of the bommbing of yourr office?" Casely nodded, still rubbing his throat. "Don't go anywherre." "As if there is anywhere I can really go like this," tapped Paul dejectedly. Then Kaitlyn walked in. She seemed to be in a definite mood. Gr'iann was attempting to explain the events that led to Paul's predicament. Paul listened to the exchange between her two medical officers and he began to think that Kaitlyn might be a bit over stressed and over tired. He might have to arrange for shoreleave for her in the near future. "Therre,"Gr'iann said with satisfaction. "Therre it is. His hyoid has been frracturred. It's a smmall bone in the thrroat, and so easy to mmiss. Besides, the frracturre is on a sub mmolecularr level. But it's enough to make the vocal chords not worrk. in fact, i wouldn't be surrprrised if Lt. Casely has been having trrouble swallowing." Paul thought then slowly nodded. "Like mmost bones, it will heal, naturrally. Howeverr, therre is little we can do to... expedite the prrocess. It will just take timme." Arms still folded across her chest, she asked, "Should I get McLaren up here?" Knowing he would want an engineer, she awaited his answer. "Well, I agrree that the use of the vocal prosthetic will the best option, but I mmust warrn you Lt., that the mmorre you use it, the longerr yourr rrecoverry will be." Paul looked at the Caitian rear-admiral and began to tap on his PADD, "I have a station to run. There are too many things going on and I'm worried about more future problems. I'll do my best to take it easy, but that device has become imperative. Please do it immediately." (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (Starbase Geneva, Medical Center, COUNS/A3O, Ensign {SG} Brian Rogers, 1350) Brian walked in and looked around and saw that Kaitlyn and Gr'iann were going to start some sort of operation on Lt. Casely. Brian walked over to a distant corner of the sickbay and watched them. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (Starbase Geneva-Medical Center-ACMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-1352) Storming into the medical center, Kaitlyn had had enough for one day. First, a bomb went off, so she had to deal with that. Second, they had an away mission in which she was held captive. Third, she had to treat and report an abusive engineer that had no business doing what he was doing, and fourth, she was still stuck on Paul's vocal chords and why they wouldn't work. It seemed like every time she had time to look into the problem, something else would come up and she was sick of it. She stormed past Gr'iann and basically shut herself in her office, determined to sit for a moment and catch a breath. Anger flooded her as she was just having an all around bad day. She didn't even catch him working on Paul's problem, something she promised she'd take care of. After a few minutes, she looked up and saw Gr'iann poring over her medical data she collected from Paul. Then she saw him shaking his head. ~If he doesn’t like what data I've collected, I dare him to come in here and say something.~ She was furious. Just on cue, he headed straight for her after that thought, and she was ready to vent her steam, but instead he said something different. "I want you to watch this." Standing up, she rolled her eyes after he had walked away. ~What now?!~ Walking out of her office and into his, she asked, "What is it?" (Posted by: Stacey) (Starbase Geneva, Engineers office, ACEO Ensign SG Matthew McLaren, 1353) Slamming the PADD onto the desk, Matthew stood up from his work, fed up with the report he was writing, he moved to the replicator and ordered some lunch. He was taking it out of the slot when his com badge chirped. =^=Mackenzie to McLaren. I'm getting ready to do surgery on Lt. Casely. Stuffing the food into the recycler. He walked out to the main section of engineering and began bringing up the specs for a vocal processor. It wasn't that was in storage so he'd have to replicate it from scratch. He was deeply engrossed in his task when his com badge went off again. =^=Mackenzie to McLaren...how are you coming with that voice processor?=^= Tapping his badge he replied. "Well sir, its not a straight forward matter. I have to match the vocal impulses to his brain impulses perfectly or else it won't work. I should be done in about 5 minutes." (Posted by Matthew McLaren) (Starbase Geneva-Medical Center-CMO Admiral Gr'iann -1355) The tone of Mackenzie's voice raised the hackles on Gr'iann's neck, but he put it down to a bad moment. "Come in Kaitlyn," he said calmly, "I want you to see this video feed of the bommbing." Gr'iann proceeded to show her the video he'd been watching. Then he froze the frame at just the moment of the metal impacting Casely's throat. Then he turned to Mackenzie. "Therre, did you see that? That shard hitting Paul's throat? It hit in such a mmannerr that it left no mmarrk. Look at wherre it strruck." He pointed to the picture on the screen. "Rright therre." he could see that she was still a little unsure of what he was talking about, so he stood up. Smiling he motioned for her to follow. "Comme and see." They moved back over to Casely where Gr'iann began to take a scan of Casely's throat. The scan showed nothing. Kaitlyn was looking a little impatient. Then Gr'ainn adjusted the tricorder to show a more molecular level scan. That was when the fracture was noticeable. "Therre,"Gr'iann said with satisfaction. "Therre it is. There should be nothing that would hold him back physically or mentally, so I don't see why he couldn't." <> Stepping back to the biobed, she was prepped and ready to begin Casely's surgery. "I'm going to give you an injection. It's just to sedate you while I do this surgery," she said. <> Sedating him, she then tapped her commbadge again. He remembered little directly proceeding the operation. He looked up from the biobed to see Doctor Mackenzie looking down at him. Paul then attempted to speak. "Was the operation a success doctor?" asked Paul. He was surprised to hear what was more or less his voice, but somewhat more... detached sounding and slightly tinny. (Reply Mackenzie) "Thank you doctor, good work. I think you should probably take a few hours off, its been a long go for you lately. Is there any reason I can't return to active duty at this stage?" asked Paul, wincing slightly at the sound of his own voice. (Reply Mackenzie) "Good then, I'll get to it. I'll probably be calling a meeting soon. Consider yourself exempted from it, unless you wish to attend. I know you've been working fairly steadily, I need to get up to speed, but less on medical issues and more on general events over the last few hours. The people of Arcturus were an odd lot, but at least she wasn't an Arcturan Clone, horrible creatures, they looked like a melting Arcturian. Through Ipatha, Dumok had learned a great deal of the composition of the Ambassador Core on the station, but there were limits. The Arcturans were of limited voice, despite joining the resistance against the current Earth Federation government. Dumok believed that Ipatha could be a good deal more useful if she had more... resolute... reasons for her involvement. Dumok also now knew that the Ambassador that would eventually have to be their quarry was a man called Tane. "My dear Ipatha, I have a special present for you," said Dumok pulling out a small box. Ipatha smiled broadly and fluttered her long eyelashes. The prospect of getting a present from Dumok seemed to more than interest her. She quickly walked over and began to open the box. "My goodness! Paul tapped his comm badge, "Lieutenant Casely to Admiral Gr'iann, could you please stop by my office and see me when you get a chance?" (Reply Gr'iann) "Thank you, understood. Casely out." With that, Paul began to plow through a days worth of paperwork. That would have to be the next thing he taught his acting third officer about, keeping up on paperwork, despite whatever else is going on. This was otherwise known as the worst job of command. Twenty or so minutes into doing the work, Paul tapped his comm badge again. "Lieutenant Casely to all senior staff. I would like everyone to meet in the Observation Lounge at 1630. Please have a status report for your section prepared. Casely out," Paul shook his head again at the sound of his odd tinny voice. ~They'll get used to it. I'll get used to it.~ thought Paul grimly. (Reply Damok) "That is good news at least", said Madon, a slight smile appearing upon her otherwise straight face at Damok’s words. The truth of the matter however was that Madon was becoming a little impatient with the speed of their progress & the thought of Tamin possibly lurking somewhere in the wings didn’t help matters at all.
