Major Thrall to Ensign Klars, your presence in my office is requested, immediately." Then he added, "And in case you're not sure of the definition of immediately, it means drop whatever you are doing, no matter what it is, and report to me within the next five minutes. Do NOT make me come and find you.=/\= Dorrin rolled his eyes. He had finished questioning Ronsworth and the staff, was going over what he discovered and now this Thrall character interrupted him. ~I can already tell what he is, a hard ass~ Though what he wanted with Dorrin was a mystery. Luckily Dorrin knew how to deal with such, simply don't give them any ammo, and they would choke on their own frustration. He tapped his combadge, "I will be there right away sir," and left. (posted by Dan Black) (Starbase Geneva- MXO's Office- ATAC Ensign Dorrin Klars - 0950) Dorrin walked in, "Ensign Dorrin Klars reporting as ordered." he said, ~and I achieved the five minute deadline to.~ Dorrin would have loved to say something insulting and flippant at that moment but when dealing with a hard-ass you never let them raise their blood level until you needed it to. (posted by Dan Black) (Starbase Geneva - MXO office - MXO- Lt Major Standorval Thrall - 0951) The door to Thrall's office opened, unannounced, and in walked a human man. Thrall looked up and his antennae came round and looked at him as well. "Ensign Dorrin Klars reporting as ordered," the pink skin announced. Thrall sat back and studied Klars for a moment, before speaking. The one good thing he had noticed was that at least he had a decent hair cut. Besides that there wasn't much to see, accept for the sizable chip the man's had on his shoulder. His body language said it all. He had a problem with authority, but he wanted to make a show of not letting it bother him. He wondered where, in Klars' childhood, that he had been challenged by an authority figure. He would be surprised if it ever had happened. In fact, it wouldn't surprise him to find that Klars was a silver spooner. Thrall's eyes narrowed and a hint of a smile reached the corner of his mouth. Klars was about to get a new meaning of authority. "Do you always enter a room without being invited in?" Thrall asked. "Get the hell out my office and learn how to come into it properly." Klars' look of surprise was priceless to the Andorian. He looked like he was about to speak. "Don't speak, leave," Thrall's voice raised a level. With that Klars turned on his heel, and left. A moment later the chime sounded. Thrall sat back in his seat. "Come." The door opened and Klars came in again. (reply Klars) Thrall tossed the PADD with the agreement with Casely on the desk, towards Klars. "Do you know what this is?" He didn't wait for a reply. "This your life. This is a temporary transfer order for you. In it, it states that you are mine, body and soul. I own you boy. It appears that although you have a flair for the dramatic, you have absolutely no sense of how to behave in a structured environment, such as Starfleet. So Lt. Casely has leased you to me, so that I can impart these details to you." He looked up at Klars who seemed to be confused. "Do you understand what I'm saying to you boy?" (reply Klars) At this point Thrall decided to stand up. He came around the desk and stood looking down at his new charge. "I'm not sure I like your attitude boy, in fact I'm pretty sure I think your attitude stinks. You think I'm some kind of hard case, who gets pleasure from lording my rank over others, don't you? You think I'm a mean SOB without whom the universe would be a better place, isn't that right? Well, you might just be right about that, but do you know why I'm that way? Because lives depend on me. And as much as my existence is despicable to you, others are alive because of me. That makes me a necessary evil. Can you tell me why you're here?" "Get the hell out my office and learn how to come into it properly. Don't speak, leave," Thrall's voice raised a level. Dorrin walked out abruptly, and took a moment to control his rising anger, he couldn't react angrily, the Lt. wanted him to. He rang the doorbell. "Come." said Thrall Dorrin came in and once again said "ATAC ensign Dorrin Klars reporting as ordered, sir." Thrall tossed a PADD on the desk. "Do you know what this is? This your life. This is a temporary transfer order for you. In it, it states that you are mine, body and soul. I own you boy. Though Dorrin really wanted to hit something, he didn't want to be under the power of this idiot. At this point Thrall decided to stand up. That makes me a necessary evil. Can you tell me why you're here?" Dorrin's temper snapped, he was tired of holding it in. He was tired of being punished because he was disrespectful, ~he wants the truth I will give it to him~ Dorrin's tone became a yell "Yes I know why I am here, I am here because none of the geniuses of Starfleet could tell my life was hell since I was five. No one could tell that I have been living in fear of my live, by someone who I thought of as a friend for 13 years. You want to know why I am so god*** unknowledgeable of the proper chain of command, it's because when I was five I heard a captain who is shown as a hero, laughing outside my door with his buddy about how killing my brother was so easy." Dorrin stood up barley able to keep himself from killing the LT. "I loved and hero- worshiped my brother, and this scum killed him. Then he spoke of killing me, and he hunted me, whenever he was not on his ship for the next thirteen years. Then I went to the academy where I thought I was save. Only things didn't get better, someone arranged for me to be sent to a different class during my first year when ever we learned about your precious chain of command. In that special class I did absolutely nothing at all, YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY I ACT LIKE I DO, BECUASE I NEVER LEARNED HOW TO ACT PROPERLY, I'VE BEEN GETTING THROUGH WITH GUESS WORK AND DEDUCTION YOU SOB." Dorrin had tears coming out of his eyes now, because he was in a lot of pain. "You know the funniest part, the person who did this to me is the pride of Starfleet, Captain Beurform." (posted by Dan Black) (Starbase Geneva - MXO office - MXO- Lt Major Standorval Thrall - 0959) This was what Thrall had been waiting for. Of course, he hadn't expected it to be so easy. He half expected this one to battle it out with him. He was almost disappointed that the human had broken before they even got to the physical violence. Oh well, there was plenty of time for that later. He stood looking down at Klars as his tirade went on. The Andorian remained impassive, no matter what was said to him. This was part of the treatment, break him down, and then allow him to build himself up again. When he was done he'd be a better man. The down side was that some never made it back. In Thrall's eyes, they didn't belong in Starfleet in the first place then. Klars' story of being hunted down by a highly decorated Starfleet captain was highly unlikely, but once he heard the name, a lot of things fell into place, not necessarily in Klars' world, but in Starfleet hierarchy. Although, a man like Beurform did not look for a person for thirteen years and not find them. When Klars stopped talking Thrall realized that he might be looking for a reaction. "Boo hoo hoo," Thrall said heartlessly. "Do you need a hankie. Someone wants you dead. So what. The fact that you're still alive today shows that somebody else wanted you to stay alive. A five year old child would not stand against a man like Beurform for long, let alone 13 years. And telling me that you don't know chain of command simply because, "I was absent that day," is just not acceptable. Granted, somebody should have caught that oversight, but to be honest, if you were a man of initiative, then you would have realized that you needed that class and done something about it. But you'd rather tell me what a slacker you are." It was time to break this man down as far as thrall dared. "Fine, slacker, you didn't get that class. Somebody hates you. Somebody wants you dead. I live with that daily, from my own troops. You deal with it, and you move on. So now it's your turn to get the class. You WILL learn code of conduct, and chain of command, and you WILL learn some respect, perhaps for yourself, as well as for others. And maybe, just maybe, you may find value in serving something greater than yourself." Thrall stopped and turned his back on the weeping man. He picked up another PADD off his desk and thumbed through the contents. When he found what he wanted he turned back around. Klars seemed to have pulled himself back together. ~Good, at least he isn't going to fold completely. He looks like a scrapper. We'll see.~ Thrall tossed the PADD at Klars. "Class is now in session. This is the Starfleet manual for chain of command. Read it. Learn it. Live it. By lunch time you will know this material. Meet me at the mess hall at 1230 hours, for a review of the material. Do you understand?" (reply Klars) "Then you are dismissed." When Klars left Thrall turned to his computer. "Computer give me all information regarding Captain Beurform, within the last thirteen years." I'm glad to see you're doing well. Do you need any time off to recuperate more fully?" asked Paul. Kass could see the concern that Paul had where it concerned his senior staff and it made her happy. Well, sir I guess I can say it gave me a scare, but, I am ready to resume my duties. May I ask what has happened while I was laid up?" Kassia was curious to see what had been happening so that she could get back into the swing of things. "We've had a rather and eventful 24 hours. Right now we're preparing for another away mission. The planet has asked for a diplomatic mission, so off we go again," said Paul. "I see that things has progressed into the positive since my accident. Well, sir I am ready to go if you want me." I'll need a counsellor to help me read the less... apparent... functions of personality when I go down. Right now Mr. Rogers is my 'linguistics' expert, so you're my best candidate. Then it dawned on her that another message apparently came in while she was in the medical center. "Yes, I think I do need to review the station logs to bring myself up to speed." She said basically agreeing with Paul. "I'll get more information to you when its available. (posted by Frank) (Starbase Geneva, Holodeck 1, COUNS Ensign (JG) Brian Rogers, 1305) Brian and Jason stood overlooking a large and deep rocky canyon. The sky was a dark red with bright yellow clouds. Starbase Geneva was in the sky, but much smaller. Brian was holding their 'special' PADD while Jason was holding a phaser. Suddenly a few disruptor shots and some ballistic rounds called 'bullets' fired over their heads from the other side of the canyon. They ducked behind a nearby rock and Jason fired back. Suddenly a booming voice yelled back from where the enemy was firing. "What makes you come to our Washington DC? Why did you mug us to this Bermuda Triangle?" The PADD quickly began processing a rough translation. Jason fired a few shots back and soon Brian read the translation. "What makes you come to our capital? Why did you steal, possibly kidnap, us to this inescapable place?" Brian said, "Computer, freeze simulation." And with that, the other bullets and disruptor shots stopped. Brian and Jason stood up. "I guess it can translate through possible firefight-" Jason was cut off by Lt. Casely's voice over the comm. =^=Status report Mr. Rogers, Mr. McLaren?=^= He asked. "Sir, we are currently running our translator threw a series of randomized messages and under combat conditions. We believe we have the database worked out. We were worried the voice chip couldn't recognize the messages under the sound of phaser fire, but it seems to work," Brian reported. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Nautilus, Crawlway, ACEO Ensign JG Matthew McLaren, 1306) McLaren pushed the optical cabling back into place and the panel lit up. He then sealed it in with a handheld laser. The startup of the ship had been pretty routine except for a few systems not being installed properly and a few minor re pares were necessary. =^=Status report Mr. Rogers, Mr. McLaren?=^= Came the voice of Lieutenant Casely. McLaren dropped the laser to the ground which promptly rolled away down the metallic tunnel. ~damn~ He clambered after it tapping his com badge as he did so. "Ensign McLaren reporting in sir. We're ahead of schedule, we'll be ready with in half an hour." He said a bit breathlessly as he snatched up the laser device from the ground. (reply Casely) "Yes sir. They were doing well, Paul didn't expect perfection after all. "Good enough... you have a couple more hours. We might need more than one of those things, I would appreciate... five... if possible," requested Paul, "Do you think that is a possibility?" (Reply Rogers) "Okay, understood," said Paul closing the comm signal. He tapped it again to transmit to the senior staff, "Lieutenant Casely to senior staff. We board the Nautilus at 1500 to begin readying stations and quarters. This could be anywhere from several hours to several days depending on how negotiations go. Pack accordingly. Casely out." Paul thought for a second and then tapped his badge, "Lieutenant Casely to Lieutenant Major Thrall, as you have possession of my ATAC at the moment, would you mind serving with him on the bridge as TAC/SC? You might get to blow something up, we have been notoriously unlucky with away missions thus far." Paul grinned. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-1310) Kaitlyn knew they were preparing to embark on yet another away mission as part of their current mission. She hoped she would be able to be on the team again. She hated being stuck in the medical center, although sometimes she did appreciate it. She glanced at the chronometer as she walked past a couple of already examined patients. ~That late already?~ Since the arrival of a couple of new patients she seemed busy and hadn't stopped to have lunch yet. Since they were all minor injuries and had been taken care of, Kaitlyn decided she would grab a sandwich and head back into her office to update their medical files. First, she headed to the replicator. "BLT on white bread." She often got hungry for simple but classic sandwiches. She watched as it replicated itself, then she took it and headed into her office. Sitting down, she was just about to take a bite when she heard Casely's voice over the comm. "Lieutenant Casely to senior staff. Bridge crew for the current mission on the USS Nautilus will be as follows, Medical Officer and Biological Sciences Doctor Mackenzie, OPS Ensign Rogers, Helm Ensign Marta, Engineering Ensign McLaren, Physical Sciences Doctor Engtamn-Jensi . Other assignments will be explained privately. Thank you to Ensign Rogers and Petty Officer Miller for their work on the translation device. We board the Nautilus at 1500 to begin readying stations and quarters. This could be anywhere from several hours to several days depending on how negotiations go. Pack accordingly. Casely out." ~Good thing I'm eating now,~ she thought. She also liked going on away missions as of now because it gave her time away from Gr'iann. She liked working with him, but she didn't think she could face him knowing that she had told him she'd think about his decision. She looked at the chronometer once again. ~Two more hours...~ (Posted by: Stacey) (Starbase Geneva - Mess Hall - MXO- Lt Major Standorval Thrall - 1311) The grilling of Klars over the chain of command had gone well. He had learned most of the material, more actually than he expected. Klars wasn't stupid, just immature, and poorly informed. With the right amount of structure, he might just make a decent officer, maybe. =^=Lieutenant Casely to Lieutenant Major Thrall, as you have possession of my ATAC at the moment, would you mind serving with him on the bridge as TAC/SC? You might get to blow something up, we have been notoriously unlucky with away missions thus far.=^= The Andorian's antennae quivered with anticipation. He looked over at Klars, who seemed to be listening intently. "Lt, you sure know how to sweet talk a guy. I believe that we may be ready for just such a distraction. What time do you require our presence?" =^=I want all crew onboard at 1500 at the latest. You'll need time to assess the Tactical stations to ensure they are calibrated to your specifications. If you're late, you stay behind and I'll find a counsellor or something to operate your post.=^= stated Paul with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. Thrall couldn't help but let a smile escape, "He won't enjoy it nearly as much as I will. We'll be there. Thrall out." With that Thrall turned to Klars. "Well, Ensign, it looks like we'll have to step things up a bit. We have about an hour to prepare for this trip. I have a simulation I want you to run in the holodeck. When we get on the Nautilus then I will expect you to check all of your interactions through myself. You will do nothing on your own without the approval of a superior officer. And since I own you right now, I'm it." (reply Klars) "Then finish up your lunch and let's get going, we've a lot to do in the next hour." (posted by Al Muir) (Starbase Geneva-Medical Center-CMO- Admiral Gr'iann -1312) Gr'iann listened to the announcement of the away team. He wasn't surprised by the list, but he could feel the pang of loss when he heard Kaitlyn's name. She had promised to think about his proposal to mate. If something were to happen to her..., no he didn't want to think about it. But he couldn't concentrate on his work, and felt he had to talk to her. He got up and went to her office. The door was open and he stepped into the office. "Kaitlyn, can we talk forr a mmomment?" (reply Mackenzie) "I will trry and mmaintain mmy commposurre," he smiled a forced smile. "I just want to thank you forr yourr kindness and considerration. I don't want to prressurre you, but I was serrious about my prroposal. In fact, if you think about the dangerr that you're going into, perrhaps we could ..." he felt a little awkward, like he was a cub again. Why was this so hard. he just wanted to mate with her. It's natural, and it's her time. Maybe she doesn't want a cub right now. That would make sense, or she really doesn't like him that well. (posted by Al Muir) (Starbase Geneva-Medical Center-ACMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-1313) Already excited about being able to go on the next away mission, it seemed to be just about the only thing that would take her mind of the current Rogers/Gr'iann situation. As she sat in her office, she leaned back in her chair as she thought for a moment. That was when she heard a shuffle at the door. Sitting upright again, she saw that it was Gr'iann who was standing in the doorway. "Kaitlyn, can we talk forr a mmomment?" ~On no...~ She had just seemed to forget about the situation and now it was coming back up again, she could feel it. "Sure," she said and gestured towards a seat, but he declined. "I will trry and mmaintain mmy commposurre," he smiled a forced smile. "I just want to thank you forr yourr kindness and considerration. I don't want to prressurre you, but I was serrious about my prroposal. In fact, if you think about the dangerr that you're going into, perrhaps we could ..." She didn't even need to hear the rest of the sentence. Knowing where this was headed, she wasn't sure how to put her answer gently, so she said it as best she could. "I appreciate the offer, really I do. It's actually an honor to be thought of in such respects that you would want to mate with me. But there are also a lot of undecided factors that I'm not sure about yet. Like.....pregnancy and respect......" she knew she was starting to ramble, so she stopped talking for a moment. When she looked up at him, she could see in his eyes that he already knew what her answer was. "Right now I have to say that my answer is no, but at least let me tell you my reasons. First off, there is the issue of respect. I don't know that I would ever be able to look at you the same way again and have a good working relationship if this were to occur, and vice versa. Also, there is the fact that pregnancy could result. Someday I would love to have children, but I'm not so sure I'm ready yet. So....because of this I must say no." She noticed the saddened expression on his face, but continued. "I just hope you'll still respect me even though I made a decision in the opposing direction you were hoping for." <> She was finally starting to see through the Gr'iann that was stalking her, or so she thought. She felt bad for having to say 'no' because of the situation, but she also felt bad because it was a biological need for him. In some small way it made her feel closer to Gr'iann, maybe in the fact that she felt like they knew each other so much more now, she wasn't sure. ~I hope we can still be friends,~ she thought as she looked down, preparing for his thoughts. (Posted by Dan Black) (Starbase Geneva, Computer Lab One, COUNS Ensign (JG) Brian Rogers, 1320) Brian and Jason were now back at the table, which was still a mess. They had five new comm badges, one reassigned to Jason since his old was now in a thousand parts, and most inside their translation device. They both had two PADD's in front of them. One had their detailed notes on how to build the special device, and one for building it with. They began the long task of building them. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Nautilus, Main Engineering, ACEO, Ensign JG McLaren, 1331) Matthew stepped out into engineering. It felt good to stand upright again. He stretched his muscles as he walked over to the main engineering table in the centre of the room. Running a quick diagnostic on all the systems he was satisfied that everything was running up to specs. He had already checked the Chief's warp core calibrations to the displeasure of the chief himself, but it had to be done. He tapped his badge. "Ensign McLaren to Lieutenant Casely. The Nautilus is prepped and ready to go." (reply Casely) (posted by McLaren) (USS Nautilus, Main Engineering, ACEO Ensign McLaren, 1426) Matthew brushed his hands off on his uniform and made his way back into the main section of engineering. (Posted by McLaren) (Starbase Geneva, Main Operations, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1412) "Ensign Yalrath, any movement from the planet?" asked Paul from the command chair. He wondered how Captain Arianna's work with the ambassadors was going. He knew that several were panicked and some advocated direct attack on the planet. Others wanted the station plunged into martial law. He wouldn't want to be her at the moment. Paul felt comfortable with diplomacy, but on that scale it would be bedlam. "No sir, all is quiet." Came the response. Truly the planet had been quiet since the last transmission. "How about craft attempting to come and go?" asked Paul. "The last craft to dock was the USS Mithrandir. The only craft on docket today as requesting launch is the USS Nautilus. The shuttle bays are locked down. Security believes they have found the crewman who let the unauthorized shuttle slip by. He is currently in detention," stated Zadora. "Any other problems reported?" "No Sir, the station is quiet. Security sweeps have been doubled as per your orders. Since then, things have been quiet. The station businesses have reopened, but a transporter ban and launch/receiving ban is in effect as per your orders. Some of the shopkeepers are lodging complaints because their shipments are not getting in due to the lockdown." Paul chuckled, "Shame they decided to do business on a Starfleet Starbase. They'll have to suck it up and wait for awhile. I won't put relations with the planet in danger, nor will I place more lives in danger, and you can quote me on that." "Yes Sir." Paul looked around the well oiled machine that was Main Operations. It had taken some doing to get things like this. Most the personnel were new and most were left more or less unattended until after the permanent senior staff arrived. They had come a long way in a short period of time. Finally, Paul stood. "I have to get some things ready before departure. You have the conn. I'm sure Captain Arianna will be back in this chair soon. Hopefully she can calm the ambassadors," said Paul starting towards the turbolift. (Starbase Geneva, Deck 4, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1428) Paul walked into his quarters and grabbed a Starfleet issue rucksack. He began to put some necessities into it and glanced at his bookshelf. Paul knew that most people at this time preferred holonovels or PADD novels. Paul always loved the feeling of pages between his fingers. He grabbed Machiavelli's The Prince, Shakespeare's Complete Works, and Das Capital off the shelf and put them in his bag. There was always the chance he'd have some down time on the planet. Paul doubted he'd be able to read the works on their planet... in that crazy language without constant interpretation. Paul stuffed a few odds and ends of clothing into his bag, again just in case, and some standard toiletries. He paused to look in the mirror and ran a finger over the solid rank pip on his collar. Paul thought back to when Captain Sash had given him that pip off his own uniform with a sense of nostalgia. ~If only he could see me now.~ (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (Planet Riclia, Underground, Galicene and Trevnor, 1430) "They... we... come." Galicene spoke quietly to her life-mate. She nodded at Trevnor, battle scarred and tired looking. His years seemed far greater than they actually were. She glanced over at the instruments of conflict piled against the wall of their dwelling. Trevnor sighed, he looked weary. "They know not. Their understanding is like a wisp of smoke. The root of the issue is not upon them." Trevnor knew they didn't remember... or even know about the people of the Beagle. The name and fate of the ship long since lost. "Still, it is what must be done. They ways of Ghandi are not effective, guns not butter. Carrying your shield or on it." Galicene did not wish pain to her mate or to any other. She felt, as many in the Underground did, trapped... hopeless... helpless. She only wished to be among those as herself. "Yes life-mate. We will go. The ones as you will have the point impressed upon them," Trevnor sighed. He did not wish conflict. He did not wish pain. He wished only liberation for himself and his life-mate and their offspring. A point must be made. "A line must be drawn in the sand," Trevnor stated grimly as he stood and took hold of his gear. He knew he would rally soon with the others. The point must be made, the understanding must come. He only hoped that no blood would spill as a result of his actions on any side. (Posted by McLaren) (Starbase Geneva, Deck 20, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1439) Paul walked through the corridor to the Nautilus docking bay. He walked in and saw the ship illuminated through the window and smiled. The Nova Class looked, in essence, similar to the classic Constitution Class vessel like those employed by Captain James Tiberius Kirk. The saucer section was a bit different, but otherwise it followed the same design specifications. The Nova Class was a science vessel, and an exploration vessel. Nothing excited Paul like the prospect of exploration and first contact, now he was getting a chance to lead them into both. The prospect was invigorating. He knew soon he would have a group of excited Ensigns on board, that made him smile, especially when he considered that he was one of those excited ensigns a very short time ago. The only thing of personal mean on his shelf was Brian's Hockey Trophy from when he was age 13. Brian would have to find some new stuff. Brian smiled, put the rucksack over his should and walked out, only to take two steps, and scurry back to his quarters and grab the five PADD's on his bed, he then turned and walked out. Paul then dropped his voice so only Thrall could hear and gave a wicked grin, "Just remember, no pieces littered about." As if on cue, Klars interrupted them, "Excuse me sir, but there is something strange here, the status of the phasers keeps changing, in fact with any change they seem to be getting more damaged, if I didn't know better I would say they are being tampered with right now!" Paul sat back and allowed Thrall reply, but was ready to jump in at a moments notice, he knew weapons systems well and couldn't afford the time or energy involved in having that system go down. He also noticed Doctor Engtamn-Jensi walk onto the bridge out of the corner of his eye. Thrall nodded to Casely. "See how quickly he learns." Then he tapped his comm badge. Paul stated quietly enough that only Thrall could hear, "Indeed he can Lieutenant Major, however I would request that you not play games with my ship again without notifying me first, especially when readying for a mission. My agreement was to allow you to have control of Mr. Klars, not my engineering crew and starship." With that said and kept strictly between the two senior officers Paul spoke a bit more loudly, "Indeed, he did behave as he should have. Mr. Klar's ability to run the tactical station was never in question, but I did appreciate his mode of address. Good work in short order." With that, Paul snapped back face front, clicking on the intercom button. "All stations, report readiness, prepare for departure." "Science station is ready sir. Probes are readied as are energy respondant sensors," reported Engtamn after working on his station for awhile. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1450) Paul walked onto the bridge and smiled broadly. There were a few engineers zipping about doing last minute tests, but otherwise the ship was quiet. The bridge looked much more standard than that of the Mithrandir. A classic bridge, a classic look. He walked around and peered at the display screens, pausing at Tactical, his old home. Finally, after inspecting everything and seeing that it seemed fully operational, Paul walked toward the command chair and sat down. ~Definitely more comfortable than the one on the Mithrandir.~ "Computer, unlock executive controls and bridge controls for the USS Nautilus, authorization Casely Epsilon Nine Omega Four," said Paul loudly. [USS Nautilus ready for departure. Welcome aboard Lieutenant.] Paul smiled to himself. Sometimes these computers seemed to be getting a bit too... friendly. He began keying in crew assignments and authorizations for the rest of the bridge. Paul felt sure that Doctor Mackenzie would appreciate the medical facilities on this vessel much more than those on the Mithrandir. He also knew the rest of the crew, with the exception of Tactical, would find their stations much more powerful and 'full functioning' than on the stripped down Mithrandir. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, COUNS/AOPS Ensign (JG) Brian Rogers, 1451) Brian walked into the bridge and noticed it seemed bigger. Brian saw a side from some yellow shirts finishing getting the ship prepped, Lt. Casely was sitting in the center seat. Brian walked up and stood tall next to him and held out one of the five PADD's in his right hand, the other four held behind his back in his left hand. "Ensign Rogers, reporting for duty, sir. Here is one of my PADD's for your inspection," Brian said. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1452) Paul inspected his command control pad and stared across the bridge of the ship. This was what he loved. Paul had grown to enjoy the fast pace of the Starbase. It was also very... convenient... and luxurious compared to even the Nimitz, however there was something about being... out there... that excited him. "Ensign Rogers, reporting for duty, sir. Here is one of my PADD's for your inspection." Paul was startled out of his reverie by a PADD jutted into his face. He suppressed the urge to chuckle aloud. Ensign Rogers seemed to have a new lease on life as of late. Paul believed the responsibility coupled with the treatments would do wonders for him. He took the PADD and began to check it out. "Excellent work! You and the Petty Officer did a wonderful job on short notice. Sorry about the additional requests, but the last thing I wanted was to be down on the planet's surface and have the PADD break without a spare. This way you can carry one with you when you're down there with me," stated Paul with a smile. (Reply Rogers) "I can't very well leave my 'linguistics expert' up here now? This is a diplomatic mission aimed at creating a prolonged peace, and I do have a bit of security training," Paul said with a wink and a smile. (Reply Rogers) Paul nodded and smiled, "Check out the OPs station, make sure its set up to your specifications. I think you'll find it much more... expansive... in terms of scope than what was on the Mithrandir. You'll have to watch the power flows, especially to the science equipment. I'm hoping that while we're down on the planet, scans can continue from here. Maybe we can figure out just why that planet came to be where it is." (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, COUNS/AOPS Ensign (JG) Brian Rogers, 1453) Brian watched with a nervous gut has Casely looked over the PADD. Sorry about the additional requests, but the last thing I wanted was to be down on the planet's surface and have the PADD break without a spare. This way you can carry one with you when you're down there with me." "I am going on planet, sir?" Brian asked. ~Counselor, turned Ops Officer, turned away team officer. I don't want to load tons of security with us, might send the wrong message. This is a diplomatic mission aimed at creating a prolonged peace, and I do have a bit of security training," "Yes, sir." Brian still felt bad about interrupting the lieutenant's sparring session. "Check out the OPs station, make sure its set up to your specifications. "Ops is go, sir. I'm running sensor sweeps of the planet and I have a subspace link with Geneva, both in communications and data," Brian reported. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (Starbase Geneva, Main Ops, OPS, Ensign (SG) Zadora Yalrath, 1457) Zadora continued working her station and coordinating OPs at the same time. "Uh....excuse me....I'm....Petty Officer Mall....Miller and I was told to report up her and give out an....extra hand." stated Miller. He definitely seemed ill at ease. "Hello Mr. Miller, I'm Ensign Yalrath. Welcome to OPs. I would actually appreciate it if you could have a look at the subspace transmitter. It is acting up a bit and we might need it urgently soon. A diagnostic might be good to," said Zadora with a smile. She found Miller to be pleasantly unassuming. (Reply Miller) Zadora was quite pleased with the prospect of getting a member of the engineering staff into OPs for a prolonged period of time. It was fairly common, as they were still understaffed, to wait a ridiculous amount of time for repairs. She also couldn't help but like this PO. He wasn't brash or loud, he seemed just interested in doing a good job. At that point she received a request to send the planetary data to the Nautilus and moved to comply. She touched her comm badge, "Yalrath to Nautilus, I have just send you the data on the planet as requested. Please keep a continuous stream of data coming back to fill in any gaps. We'll keep science staff on here working on the issues." (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus-Bridge-ACMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-1457) Having arrived on the Nautilus, Kaitlyn was happy to be away for awhile. It would certainly give Gr'iann more time to think as well, and the mission would take her mind off of the situation. Taking a seat at science, she activated the panel and started to power up the systems. She then turned to see the bustle of people as they also manned their stations. As she was ready, she reported in to Casely, only to receive a nod. She then sat and awaited the orders for disembarking. "Nautilus to Starbase Geneva, requesting permission to disembark," stated Paul. =^=Permission granted Nautilus, good luck out there.=^= Came Yalrath's reply as the station doors began to open. Everyone then began to snap to it as Casely gave out orders. She listened to the orders he was giving everyone until he finally gave her one as well. "Doctors Engtamn-Jensi and Mackenzie, half impulse will get us to the planet in about one hour. Please use that time to check over our scientific data on the planet, see if there is anything we've missed that might be useful," said Paul. At Engtamn-Jensi's reply of "Yes sir," Kaitlyn just nodded her head. She then listened as Casely made a small speech to the entire crew. "Nautilus Crew, this is Lieutenant Casely. As you know, we are currently embarking on a diplomatic mission to the phantom planet. While this is a peaceful mission, we have to be ready for anything. Ensure your stations are running properly and are ready for anything at a moment's notice. This is the first time in some time that the Nautilus has been to space, therefore this can be seen as a kind of a 'shakedown' cruise. Upon the successful completion of our diplomatic talks, I fully expect that we will head for the second star to the left for a few hours at warp. Do your best, do your duty. Casely out," said Paul closing the connection. Turning her attention back to her station, she switched her sensors around, making sure all functioned properly. ~So far, so good,~ she thought as she continued her systems checks. (Posted by: Stacey) (Starbase Geneva, Main Ops, EC Petty Officer {3rd} Jason Miller, 1458) The Bajoran smiled at Jason. "Hello Mr. Miller, I'm Ensign Yalrath. Welcome to OPs. I would actually appreciate it if you could have a look at the subspace transmitter. It is acting up a bit and we might need it urgently soon. A diagnostic might be good to." "A diagnostic? On the subspace transmitter? Well, sure." And with that, Jason walked off to an open station. He entered a command and began Level-4 diagnostic, which was half automated, with some human input. When the computer finished, it displayed on the screen, 'Error with Subspace Hardware, please see transmitter hardware.' ~Oh great,~ Jason got up and walked over to Yalrath, informed her he was leaving to repair the transmitter and headed out. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, COUNS/AOPS Ensign (JG) Brian Rogers, 1459) Brian was waiting when he got a message from Geneva. Yalrath to Nautilus, I have just send you the data on the planet as requested. Please keep a continuous stream of data coming back to fill in any gaps. We'll keep science staff on here working on the issues," Brian recalled her name was Yalrath, from yesterday, during the briefing on the planet, she interrupted to inform Casely and the captain of the situation.... That seemed like ages ago, when it only was about a day and a half. Then it sunk he hadn't said anything for a moment. "Thank you, Ensign Yalrath. I'm setting up the subspace link now," Brian said, and for a second it wouldn't connect, but then it finally did. ~Must be a diagnostic running,~ Brian thought. From his command training, he felt he had a better understanding of the Ops Station. Brian now felt he had a better understanding on life. He was done, with the pressures of family and drug addict. He wasn't going to be the next relative of the 'great' Admiral Marcus Rogers. He was going to be the first Brian Rogers. Then has the sensor data came in, Brian began checking it. The sensor's readings has the planet appeared were strange. They seemed to show a mix of a subspace field, such has a ship coming out of warp, and the remains of a wormhole/black hole. It was strange. He would have to run it by Dr. Engtamn-Jensi later. Until then, Brian watched the power flow. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (Starbase Geneva, Somewhere Near The Top of the Station, Jefferies Tube, EC Petty Officer {3rd} Jason Miller, 1500) Jason was climbing along. While most Starfleet crews found the Jefferies Tubes to be, uncomfortable, even difficult, (and for some large Security staff, impossible) to get threw, Jason and his skinny body found it easy. He reached the panel near the transmitter data relay that converted information into a subspace signal. He looked for the keypad to open it, when to his horror he discovered two handles and a label that informed who ever would want to open it that it was Manual Access Only. ~OK, you can do this!~ And Jason put his hands on the handles and pulled. Nothing. To Jason, it seemed like somebody just put two handles on the wall and put some decals to make it look like a hatch for some prank. Jason pulled again, and again, and again. Finally, he maneuvered around the tube and put his boots on the wall below the hatch, grabbed onto the handles and pushed his legs. Finally, a large POP noise and Jason and the hatch flew off and Jason hit his head on the opposite wall. When he repositioned himself to work on the hardware inside the panel, he discovered that somehow, him removing the panel had disconnected all the wiring inside the panel. A small control panel was inside and it said, 'SUBSPACE TRANSMITTER OFFLINE'. Panic raced threw Jason's heart has he stumbled to quickly put the wires back together. He thought off all the ships outside who couldn't request docking with the station, or even the Nautilus, being slaughtered by the aliens, would call for backup, and no one would come to their aid. He fumbled with the wiring. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1500) Paul listened as department after department chimed in. Everything seemed ready, everyone seemed prepared. He tapped a few keys on the armrest of the command chair and quickly reviewed all the status reports. He then tapped his communication button. "Nautilus to Starbase Geneva, requesting permission to disembark," stated Paul. =^=Permission granted Nautilus, good luck out there.=^= Came Yalrath's reply as the station doors began to open. "Mr. Rogers, adjust structural integrity field for null gravity." (Reply Rogers) Paul pressed the internal intercom button, "Mr. McLaren, bring impulse engines online." (Reply McLaren) "Mr. Marta, take us out, minimum impulse until we clear moorings. Once we're clear, set course for the planet at one half impulse." (Reply Marta) "Doctors Engtamn-Jensi and Mackenzie, half impulse will get us to the planet in about one hour. Please use that time to check over our scientific data on the planet, see if there is anything we've missed that might be useful," said Paul. "Yes Sir," replied Engtamn. (Reply Mackenzie) "This is the first time the Nautilus has been out in some time, make sure all the shield and weapons systems are working properly. I don't mind if you target some space trash and test it, just make sure its done before we're close to the planet. I want to make sure all weapons systems are off line when we are ready to make orbit," stated Paul. (Reply Thrall, Klars) Paul watched as the dock slipped slowly behind them. He loved this feeling... he loved moving into space. For the next while at least, the Nautilus was his and he was hers. For Paul, this was what it was all about, first contact, exploration, the excitement and exhileration of space travel. He pressed his intercom button. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, COUNS, Ensign {JG} Brian Rogers - 1501) Brian listened has Casely got permission from Ops to leave the station. Then, "Mr. Rogers, adjust structural integrity field for null gravity," Casely instructed. "Aye, sir. Structural intergrity field is set to standard Starfleet operational status." Brian reported. Casely soon then and got reports from the other stations. Casely out," said Casely. Brian nodded. He liked exploring strange new worlds, but an hour's time was very much fun.... (Posted by Kevin Schram) (Starbase Geneva, Somewhere Near The Top of the Station, Jefferies Tube, EC Petty Officer {3rd} Jason Miller, 1503) Jason finished reconnecting all the wires. He quickly entered a command and the display informed him that the subspace transmitter was now online and working at 100%. ~Whew...~ Jason put the panel back on and crawled out. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Nautilus- Bridge- MXO- Lt Major Standorval Thrall - 1504) "He can learn," Thrall said "Indeed he can Lieutenant Major," replied Casely, in a low voice meant only for Thrall's ears, "however I would request that you not play games with my ship again without notifying me first, especially when readying for a mission. My agreement was to allow you to have control of Mr. Klars, not my engineering crew and starship." "Pardon me Lieutenant," Thrall said with a raised eyebrow, "I was under the understanding that your CEO had your full confidence. Knowing otherwise, I will, of course, defer to you in the future." "Indeed," Casely said much louder, "he did behave as he should have. Mr. Klar's ability to run the tactical station was never in question, but I did appreciate his mode of address. Good work in short order." ~Not a question for you perhaps.~ Thrall thought, but let it go. Klars did as he was asked, and that was all the marine could expect. He moved up behind the ATAC and gave him a pat on the shoulder. Casely called for station readiness reports, which were sumarily given. Then he directed the ship out of the moorings and set off for the planet. Once they were under way at half impulse Casely began to get the crew more aclimated to the ship. Thrall approved, since this would also have them thinking about other things rather than just the mission and they might relax a bit. He turned to Thrall and Klars. "This is the first time the Nautilus has been out in some time, make sure all the shield and weapons systems are working properly. I don't mind if you target some space trash and test it, just make sure its done before we're close to the planet. I want to make sure all weapons systems are off line when we are ready to make orbit," stated Paul. ~Target practice!?~ Thrall's inate desire to shoot something came to the surface. He couldn't help but smile. "Let's run a level three simulation first, just to make sure that the controls work." (reply Klars) Then Casely addressed the who crew. He talked about the mission and the ship, blah, blah, blah. Thrall only kept part of his mind listening for his name, or Klars'. He did pick up the last phrase. "Do your best, do your duty. Casely out." The andorian couldn't help but see the humor. He should have known that Casely had probably been a boy Scout. Casely stated that he was going to be reviewing the translation of the aliens language in his ready room. "Lieutenant Major Thrall, you have the bridge," Casely stated clearly. "If there is a problem or if we are entering orbit around the planet, please contact me immediately. Everyone else, continue with your assigned tasks. Notify me of any significant headway you make." "Aye sir, Thrall replied. Thrall spent five minutes programing a small battle simulation into the tactical display and when he saw that Klars was ready initiated it. It was mainly space debris and mine fields. Klars managed the controls and the autolock system was working fine. "Let's turn it up a notch?" Thrall said, content that everything seemed to be working. With that he tapped a few keys and the moved to a level 4. This had incoming ships, mostly Ferengi, Romulan and Cardassian. Once again Klars performed well, but after a few minutes he could see the man was getting out of his depth. Thrall leaned over him and began to access the controls. "You need to anticipate the enemies ships a little more. Romulans like to run a Pictish assault, which while looking like they are about to sacrafice a ship, turns out that they are prepared to attack from an otherwise, unprotected part of the ship. If you're ready for it then..." Thrall demonstrated by quickly anhilating all of the enemy ships, several of which before they even got a target lock on them. He nodded at the station and then at Klars, who looked a little sullen. Thrall figured it was time to be a little encouraging. "Don't worry about it Mr. Klars, I've had a lot more experience than you have. I have no doubt that you'll get it. Keep working at this level for five more minutes then shut it all down." (reply Klars) Thrall stepped away and tapped his comm badge as he headed for the command station. "Thrall to Casely, tactical station is ready, as is Ensign Klars, for this mission." He looked around at everyone else still working. "Nothing else of consequence to repport, although we are nearly at the half way point." (posted by Al Muir) (Starbase Geneva, Main Ops, EC Petty Officer {3rd} Jason Miller, 1505) Jason walked back into Ops and walked over to Yalrath. "Sir, I'm done with the diagnostic. It should be running at maximum percent now," explained Jason. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Nautilus- Bridge- ATAC Ensign Dorrin Klars - 1507) "This is the first time the Nautilus has been out in some time, make sure all the shield and weapons systems are working properly. I don't mind if you target some space trash and test it, just make sure its done before we're close to the planet. I want to make sure all weapons systems are off line when we are ready to make orbit," stated Paul. "Let's run a level three simulation first, just to make sure that the controls work." said Thrall. "Yes sir," replied Dorrin, ~Then maybe we could shoot something real~ Than Casely gave the usual morale raising garbage which Dorrin had to fight a battle not to fall asleep during. It was even worse when Dorrin considered that Paul had announced to the entire ship that Thrall was here to keep an eye on Dorrin by saying his ability to run the station wasn't in question in such a loud voice, saying that was an indicator that something else was in question. Once that was done Thrall programmed a small battle simulation that Dorrin handled easily, but once they moved to level 4, Dorrin became overcome in just a few moments. "You need to anticipate the enemies ships a little more. Romulans like to run a Pictish assault, which while looking like they are about to sacrafice a ship, turns out that they are prepared to attack from an otherwise, unprotected part of the ship. If you're ready for it then..." Thrall finished his lecture and demonstrated what he said by quickly anhilating all of the enemy ships, several of which before they even got a target lock on them. Dorrin was mad at himself. He should be able to do better than this, he really hated to be worse than someone else at anything he prided himself on. "Don't worry about it Mr. Klars, I've had a lot more experience than you have. I have no doubt that you'll get it. Keep working at this level for five more minutes then shut it all down." "Yes sir," Dorrin said, it took him a number of tries, but after seeing the demonstration he was able to emulate Thrall, even if he wasn't as quick. ~Perhaps he is more than someone meant to bring me "in line"~ Dorrin shut off the simulation as ordered, and waited for them to get to the planet, he wasn't in the mood to begin a conversation. (reply any/none) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1512) Paul watched as the Nautilus cleared the moorings and drifted freely into space. Paul blinked and smiled as the expanse unfolded before him. He noticed the marine Lieutenant Major still at his side, clearly expecting to serve as his acting FO on this mission. Paul grinned grimly at the irony. Everyone had a role to fulfill and knew it. He needed the Lieutenant Major on the bridge, but hoped he wouldn't automatically default into his more combat oriented stance immediately. Paul's experiences with marines in general had been fairly negative. He liked this Andorian, but couldn't help but worry about the effects of being a marine on him. In a tight situation how would he behave? Paul noted the chronometer. They wouldn't be ready to enter orbit for about an hour. He was purposely taking it slow so everyone had time to fulfil the roles that were necessary for this mission. They had left early, would arrive early, and would hopefully get some relevant work done in between. Paul stood up. "I need to prepare a few things for this diplomatic engagement and I have to more closely review Mr. Roger's fine work on the PADD translation system. I'll be in my ready room. Lieutenant Major Thrall, you have the bridge. If there is a problem or if we are entering orbit around the planet, please contact me immediately. Everyone else, continue with your assigned tasks. Notify me of any significant headway you make," stated Paul walking towards the Ready Room door. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus - Bridge/Helm - COUNS/Helm - Ensign(sg) Kassia Marta - 1513) Kass entered the bridge to look down at the place where she was suppose to perform her duties during this mission. Immediately flash backs started to run through her mind of the last time she sat at the helm. The explosions, the sparks flying, the bouncing around and the banging her head on the console and deck plates. The force she had hit her mid section on her chair which almost caused her death had it not been for the expertise of Commander Mckenzie. She had signed on to be the counselor not a raggity Ann doll to be thrown around. She had to force herself to move forward, knowing that what she was feeling, anxiety, would have to be put on the back burner and dealt with later. As she sat down, shaky hands ran over her controls to ensure that everything was in working order. "Sir, helm seems to be operating in prescribed order" Kass reported "Nautilus to Starbase Geneva, requesting permission to disembark," stated Paul. =^=Permission granted Nautilus, good luck out there.=^= Came Yalrath's reply as the station doors began to open. Kass half listened to the conversation that Paul had with Brian and Dorrin. She had her own things to occupy her mind then Paul addressed her and she almost let it fly by. "Mr. Marta, take us out, minimum impulse until we clear moorings. Once we're clear, set course for the planet at one half impulse." "Aye sir, docking clamps unlocked, using thrusters and minimum impulse until clear of the moorings." Kass replied to Paul. "Sir advancing to half impulse to planet." "Nautilus Crew, this is Lieutenant Casely. As you know, we are currently embarking on a diplomatic mission to the phantom planet. While this is a peaceful mission, we have to be ready for anything. Ensure your stations are running properly and are ready for anything at a moment's notice. Upon the successful completion of our diplomatic talks, I fully expect that we will head for the second star to the left for a few hours at warp. Do your best, do your duty. Casely out," said Paul closing the connection. Kass listened to the announcement and felt a sense of awe that she would also be there when they made contact with possibly a new race of beings. She would be at Paul's side when he talked with them to advise him as much as she could. But, then she felt a sense of panic as to what if she failed him and what she told him started a war with them. She decided to take her mind off those type of thoughts and returned to her controls. (Posted by Frank) (USS Nautilus-Bridge-ACMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-1515) She watched as Casely stood up and exited the bridge and went into his ready room. She figured he would be in there the whole time since they wouldn't arrive for another hour or so. Turning her attention back to the sensors, she took the PADD out of her pocket she had brought along with her. Before the mission she had decided to construct a 'cheat sheet' so she could better know what she already scanned for and what to pick up on that would help. ~Scans, scans, scans....~ She shook her head because she was at a roadblock. The last time they were on the Mithrandir, she was barely able to get the scans because of the planetary shield. Then it hit her. ~Why didn't I think of this last time?~ She wasn't sure that it would work, but she decided to ask Ensign Rogers anyways. Turning around in her chair to face him, she asked, "Rogers, about these scans....would it be possible to integrate the two sensors together?" <> She knew a lot about technology but this was not her area of expertise. At first she saw that Brian seemed confused when she asked him the question. Right before he replied the idea seemed to sink in. "My thoughts were, that by linking these two together, maybe they would increase in strength capacity and distance to get better scans." <> Kaitlyn felt odd being the only one bouncing ideas off the bridge crew thus far. It had been quiet since Paul left the bridge and it was up to them to think of ideas to make the mission run smoother and cover anything they missed in the previous assignment. Listening as Brian replied, she hoped her idea was possible so they could start on something. (Posted by: Stacey) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, COUNS Ensign (JG) Brian Rogers, 1516) Brian was watching a status report of all the ship's systems when Kaitlyn turned to talk to him. Brian's face turned red. He still 'liked' her, but he was embarrsed by his earlier drug situation. However, he quickly put such off-duty things out of his mind has she started speaking. "Rogers, about these scans....would it be possible to integrate the two sensors together?" "Uh....I think so. Lemme see," Brian said has he started working at his station. "My thoughts were, that by linking these two together, maybe they would increase in strength capacity and distance to get better scans." "Yeah. It shouldn't be a problem unless another department needs to use one sensor and not the other. I'll set it up so you can start scanning and then I'll go run it by Engtamn- Jensi.since he is the department head," Brian said has he brough the sensors online for Kaitlyn. (reply Mackenzie) Brian got up and walked over to Engtamn-Jensi. "Doctor, Dr. Mackenzie and I have set up Dorsal Sensor Arrays 5 and 9 together for better usage on scanning the planet. Is that alright with you, sir?" Brian asked. (reply Engtamn-Jensi, room to expand) Brian returned to his station. "Find anything interesting, yet....sir?" Brian added, almost forgetting he was addressing a Lieutenant Commander. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Nautilus, Main Engineering, ACEO Ensign JG McLaren, 1517) Matthew walked around engineering glancing at the displays to make sure they were all ok. He really didn’t have much to do now. The ship was underway, no problems had occurred and he was out of things to fix. After the rushed prepping and departure it was quite an anticlimax. He walked into the chief engineer's office and sat down at the desk terminal and began reading over the reports of the last 24 hours to see what had been happening while he was in the medical bay. (posted by Matthew McLaren) (USS Nautilus, Ready Room, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1518) Paul walked into the ready room and looked around. It was definitely more luxurious than that of the Mithrandir. Larger and single purpose. Paul walked over to the desk... his desk... and sat down. He placed the PADD on the table and began to page through. He attempted to construct his speech thanking the people of the planet for having him. This was especially interesting as far as first contact assignments went, usually the universal translator took care of language issues, but that clearly wasn't an option here. He needed guile, wit and the help of several crew members to make this work. With that thought in the back of his mind, he set to work. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus-Bridge-ACMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-1519) After having asked Brian if he would be able to hook up the sensors, he got right on it. Kaitlyn was actually impressed with the amount of knowledge he seemed to know about them. Especially since she didn't know much, other than how to use them. "Find anything interesting, yet....sir?" She found it odd, rather interesting, that he added 'sir' at the end of his question in a different manner. It was almost like he either forgot she outranked him or he was just being formal since they were on the bridge of the ship and not in the medical center where they could talk about his problem, she wasn't sure. Either way, she decided to ignore it. "Not yet, they've only been hooked up for a short while. I expect to find out more the closer we get to the planet. Or, at least I hope." <> Noting his smile, she thought it may have been the first time he smiled being his 'normal' self. ~As normal as he can be...~ She hoped it wouldn't take too long for him to rehabilitate himself. Deciding to think of something else, she gathered her attention and put it back to concentrating on the scans. (Posted by: Stacey) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, COUNS Ensign (JG) Brian Rogers, 1520) "Not yet, they've only been hooked up for a short while," Kaitlyn explained. "I expect to find out more the closer we get to the planet. Or, at least I hope." Brian smiled and nodded. It seemed odd that they were travelling towards the planet at only half impulse. Has they waited for the scans to come in, Brian started talking. "So, what do you think we're going to find on the planet?" (reply Mackenzie, any) (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Nautilus-Bridge-ACMO, Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-1521) "So, what do you think we're going to find on the planet?" It was obvious that he was trying to make small talk with her in hopes that they could both try and forget the current prediciment and to try and establish something to do other than purely concentrate on work. It always helped Kaitlyn when she could talk with someone as she worked. "I'm not quite sure actually. I guess anything that wasn't found on the first round of this mission. Anything that'll help." <> Pushing a couple of buttons, she tuned the sensors into better alignment. That would help with the altitude she hoped they would reach. If she could gather the information she needed on their body systems as well as the normal geographical scans, that would give them a better picture of what they would be dealing and coming into contact with. She just hoped they weren't a hostile species. (Posted by: Stacey) (Starbase Geneva-Medical Center-CMO- Admiral Gr'iann -1530) Gr'iann sat in his office, looking at his computer terminal. There was no way around the truth. He had to take care of his season, his hormone levels were reaching a dangerous point. He realized that if he was going to even survive this experience, he was going to need to find an outlet for his ... needs. The Caitian was starting to get a little restless. He stood up and went out to the medical center to see what was going on. Everrything was being handled, and he was feeling the absence of Mackenzie. His ears still burned with the certainty of her rejection. He felt like an old fool, thinking that she would have feelings for him. His embarrasment turned to anger as he wondered why she couldn't have feelings for him. Checking with the charge nurse, Gr'iann decided to go for a walk. Leaving a message to be contacte if he was needed, he wandered through the corridors of the station. His claws began to extend and retract as his mind went through the conversation with Kaitlyn again. He began to envision Kaitlyn in the high grass. He was stalking her. Silently moving through the grass he would be able to sense her pheromones. She would be unaware of his progress towards her. Then, when she was close enough he would pounce, tearing her clothes from her tender body and having his... Gr'iann snarled at himself. He had heard of some Vulcans taking out the effects of their pon fhar in a holodeck. It wasn't a perfect solution, but it sufficed, for most. Well, if it was good enough for the Vulcans, then why not try. He decided to make his way to the holodecks. Although he wasn't sure how he'd operate it inhis present state. Pretty soon he was sniffing the air as he passed every female, looking for the right scent, and not finding it. Still he searched, maintaining his general course towards a holosuite. Meanwhile, back at the Medical Center, Dr. Wendy Kildare was looking for the CMO. She had just wanted to clear something with him. He wasn't in his office, so she thought she'd leave a note. Stepping over to his desk she glanced up to see the readout on the monitor. her eyes widened at what she saw. The admiral's blood test results were concerning, to say the least. They would have to find him, and find him soon. She didn't know who to contact, thinking discretian being the better part of saving an admirals reputation. "Dr. Kildare to Catain Arianna, we have a big problem with Admiral Gr'iann." (posted by Al Muir) (USS Nautilus, Ready Room, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1548) Paul sat composing his opening speech. This definitely was giving him some difficulty and he began to appreciate what early travellers had to go through before universal translators. What made this even more annoying was the fact that the words were in his native tongue, but the arrangement just didn't make sense. Rogers' PADD was useful, but there was still a lot of guesswork involved. =^=Thrall to Casely, tactical station is ready, as is Ensign Klars, for this mission. Nothing else of consequence to report, although we are nearly at the half way point.=^= Paul tapped his badge in response, "Thanks for the update, proceed at this speed. Please let me know when we enter orbit. And could you send in Ensign Rogers? Thanks, Casely out." Paul looked at the PADD, maybe Rogers could make some sense out of this mess. More and more he felt a sense of impending doom about this mission, but he had to keep it buried. He had to give the aura of confidence and ensure that it was passed on to his crew. Suddenly, Paul felt very small... much the same as he did when he first set foot on the Nimitz. He didn't feel as if he knew what he was doing... like he was drowning... Paul blinked his eyes and refocussed on the PADD. ~No time for self doubt now.~ (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus- Bridge- MXO- Lt Major Standorval Thrall - 1550) When Casely signed out he turned to see Rogers leaning over Mackenzie. They were, supposedly, working on something to do with the sensors, but tohis eye it looked like some form of mating ritual. ~By the gods, go find an empty shuttle or something.~ Thrall rose from his seat and came up behind the two busy workers. He cleared his throat. As Rogers turned around he found Thrall invading his body space. He tried to step away, but found himself falling over the doctor. Thrall forced himself not to smile. He rolled his eyes as he helped the counselor unravel himself from the doctor. "Mr. Rogers, Lt Casely needs to see you inthe ready room, immedialy." (Posted by Al Muir) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, COUNS Ensign (JG) Brian Rogers, 1551) Brian was standing over Kaitlyn has the scans kept coming it. It had been over 30 minutes since they reconfigured the two sensors to work together, but no definative answers, yet. Suddenly Brian heard a deep voice clear its throat. Brian turned to see the Androian Marine, Lt. Major Thrall, standing very near him. Brian tried to step back, but was up against the console, and fell over Kaitlyn. Thrall helped Brian get off Kaitlyn. When Brian was standing up, the Lieutenant Major spoke. "Mr. Rogers, Lt. Casely needs to see you in the ready room, immedialy." "Uh, yes, sir," Brian said, with a smile and nod to Kaitlyn he walked off the bridge. (Posted by Kevin Schram) (USS Nautilus-Bridge-ACMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-1552) Kaitlyn has sat, staring at the sensors for what seemed to be an eternity. Only in reality it had only been half an hour. Sighing, Kaitlyn was getting ready to try another scan, when she heard someone clear their throat behind her. It was an obvious gesture. Turning around to see who it was and what their problem was, she saw that it was the Andorian Thrall. But before she could ask what he wanted, Brian had tripped over his towering figure, pushing him onto her. ~What the...?!~ she thought as she noticed it was the Andorian who's crowded space allowed the accident to happen. She leaned back as Brian pushed himself off of her and got to his feet, standing straight as if the moment hadn't embarrassed him at all. "Mr. Rogers, Lt Casely needs to see you in the ready room, immediately." Turning around, Kaitlyn rolled her eyes at the sensor display. She hoped that her reflection had not been seen by Thrall. The last thing she needed was to be yelled at for her actions. However part of her hoped he would. Deciding she would let it go, she continued her work hoping that Thrall would do the same. So far he just lingered behind her as if watching her work. (Posted by: Stacey (USS Nautilus, Ready Room, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1552) Paul went over the phrases again shaking his head. He was getting increasingly irritated when finally, Ensign Rogers arrived. "Sir, Lt. Major Thrall informed me that your needed to see me?" stated the Ensign. "Well Mr. Rogers, I'm just about ready to fling this thing against the wall. I know you've done your best with the time available and the difficulty of the task, but I'm worried that I won't be able to pull this off," said Paul feeling his face flush red. This was embarrassing. He was trained both as a security/tactical officer and as a diplomat. These things shouldn't be issues. (Reply Rogers) "I need phrases that could be used to invite them onto the station for the next set of talks. I also need something to tell them we can arrange transport for them if necessary, or that they can travel aboard the Nautilus," said Paul, "I'm just not sure that I can say it without butchering it." (Reply Rogers) Paul nodded and hoped he was right. "How is the Lieutenant Major doing out there? I'm sure he's a bit out of his element. After all you're marshmallow centered Starfleet personnel and not hardened marines," stated Paul with a grin. I know you've done your best with the time available and the difficulty of the task, but I'm worried that I won't be able to pull this off," Casely explained, he seemed to be flustered. "Well, how can I help, sir?" Brian asked. "I need phrases that could be used to invite them onto the station for the next set of talks. I also need something to tell them we can arrange transport for them if necessary, or that they can travel aboard the Nautilus. I'm just not sure that I can say it without butchering it." "Don't worry, sir. I'm sure you'll do fine," Brian said, putting on his counselor hat. "How is the Lieutenant Major doing out there? I'm sure he's a bit out of his element. After all you're marshmallow centered Starfleet personnel and not hardened marines," Casely asked. "Well, he seems, tough, sir. He is very rough on Ensign Klars, which might be good for him," Brian said, remembering when he was having dinner with Lt. Casely a few nights back when the lieutenant got a call from a security officer about Klars trying to bring his own drinks into a bar. And Brian recalled Klars' informal nature with commanding officers. "Other than that, sir, I bet he is good at leading an elite squad of Marines, and I guess right now he's doing alright, but, well, sir, from what I hear about those Marines, I wouldn't trust him to lead the dipolmatic meetings. Of course thats just my opinion," Brian explained. (reply Casely, room to expand) Brian got back to topic. "Well, sir, I believe that we should use words they already used in their messages, that way we don't risk over extending ourselves by attempting an ancient word that might be too early or too late for their time frame." (Posted by Kevin Schram) (CUS Reklar, Galor Class - Bridge- CO - Gul Damok - 1602) Damok surveyed the bridge of his ship. He was not overly pleased with having contact with the Federation, no matter which faction it was. However, he could not underestimate the value of gaining access to the station Geneva. This group of Starfleet personnel would be careful... hesitant even about letting them have any major access to the station, however it still could be useful to be on board. ~Let the Depta Council have their talks. The military government really operates the Cardassian Union.~ though Damok with a wicked grin. "Gil Ellok, what is our best time to Starbase Geneva?" asked Damok. "At warp 7 sir, we will arrive in 3 days," came the answer. "Is Council Member Madon on board yet?" requested Damok. "Yes, she has arrived and is in her quarters," stated Ellok. Damok nodded. He had nothing but contempt for the Depta Council, the 'democratic' arm of the Cardassian Union. However, they made it look like the people had a say in the structure, and that made things function much more... smoothly. Damok couldn't help but be nervous, however, about having a member of the Obsidian Order on board. While his primary task was to work through Geneva, they still could turn on even the best Gul in an instant. "Is Glinn Tamin on board Gil?" "Yes Sir, he is in his quarters... I think. He's a bit hard to keep track of Gul," stated the young Gil. Damok nodded. This was an interesting mission to be sure. He turned to his first officer. "Glinn Bokat, please ensure Glinn Tamin is... comfortable. I want members of security to look after his every need at all times," stated Damok with a wicked grin. "Aye Sir," stated Bokat seditiously. This would be an interesting mission to be sure... (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, CSO, Ensign {SG} Engtamn-Jensi - 1627) Engtamn looked at the controls in front of him and continued his sweeps as they were beginning to enter orbit around the planet. There were definitely interesting energy readings on that planet. All inidications made him believe the people on the planet were technologically evolved to a level that matched their own. Something to add into his report to be sure. That made them both exciting and dangerous at the same time. At the moment, they seemed committed to peace, but there was no telling what kinds of weapons they had on the planet. Engtamn shuddered... he hated weapons and violence. He did not wish to engage in that kind of endeavour in any way, shape or form. ~Hmmm... strange...~ thought Engtamn. "Lieutenant Major, we have a strange energy reading on the planet... well, it was on the planet," stated Engtamn evenly. (Reply Thrall) "Sir, it appears to be a ship's engine signature, breaking the planet's surface. I don't believe they have weapons powered or shields raised, but its hard to tell as their energy configuration is different than ours. They're entering a sychronous orbit with us... keeping the planet between us and them," Engtamn responded, "I might be able to tell more, but much of the sensor allocation is being given to scanning the planet at the moment." (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus- Bridge- MXO- Lt Major Stnadorval Thrall- 1628) Running the bridge of a Starship was the same and yet different from running a marine squad. He knew well that no matter who you were, idle hands were the devil's playground, so he had to keep everyone busy. But he also had to be... nice about it.He couldn't just spout of orders and expect them to be done. These were Starfleet officers, and damned good ones too. But they were no marines, and Thrall couldn't expect to treat them as such. Some of them would just wither up and blow away. Case in point, Dr. Engtamn-Jensi. The scientist gave Thrall a chill. He was just a little too timid. so when he spoke, undirected, it took thrall by surprise. "Lieutenant Major, we have a strange energy reading on the planet... well, it was on the planet," stated Engtamn evenly. "Well Dr," Thrall scowled, "is it there or isn't it? And if it is, what is it?" "Sir, it appears to be a ship's engine signature, breaking the planet's surface. I don't believe they have weapons powered or shields raised, but its hard to tell as their energy configuration is different than ours. They're entering a sychronous orbit with us... keeping the planet between us and them," Engtamn responded, "I might be able to tell more, but much of the sensor allocation is being given to scanning the planet at the moment." Thrall thought for a moment then acted. "Take whatever you need and find out about that ship. It is a much more immediate threat. I want the information as soon as possible. Sooner even." (reply Engtamn) Thrall tapped his comm badge. "Thrall to Lt. Casely, we have some activity that you might want to check on sir." (posted by Al Muir) (USS Nautilus, Ready Room, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1630) The information had been relayed to Paul that they had achieved orbit around the planet. He decided that given the fact they had a bit of extra time before arrival was necessary, it would be better spent fine tuning his opening speech. Paul was going over his speech with Ensign Rogers when Thrall interrupted. =^=Thrall to Lt. Casely, we have some activity that you might want to check on sir.=^= "I'll be right there," stated Paul in response to Thrall. Paul turned his response to Rogers. "Ensign, you keep working on this please. Do your best to get any problems worked out of my speech. It sounds like I'm needed elsewhere." "Aye sir," came the expected response. With that, Paul exited to the bridge. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1632) Paul walked onto the bridge. Most of the crew was intently engaged in their duties. He walked over to the command chair as Thrall vacated it and sat down. "Lieutenant Major, report please," said Paul. (Reply Thrall) "I need a threat assessment and tactical analysis. I don't want to engage, they don't seem hostile at the moment, but still. Please coordinate with Doctor Engtamn-Jensi, remember, he's taken a peace oath, as is common with his species, and won't have anything to do with our weaponry," stated Paul. (Reply Thrall, Klars) Paul looked at the display. There was no visual available, just a blip exactly on the other side of the planet. Whoever was piloting that ship was keeping the planet between them. Paul had to weigh the peace talks with the possibility of a hostile. He couldn't justify doing anything until they'd iniated an attack. Paul was hoping they wouldn't. Paul tapped his comm badge. "Ensign McLaren, there is a chance we have a potential hostile out there. I need you to double and triple check that our shields, phasers and torpedos are in good working order. Lets not be caught with our pants down," said Paul. (Reply McLaren) "Well, Starfleet protocol when dealing with ships who's intentions are unknown... Yellow Alert, disable klaxon," stated Paul. With that, yellow lights around the bridge began to flash and the lights dimmed to give focus to the equipment on the bridge. Paul knew that yellow alert would raise the shields, but not bring the weapons online. A classic defensive position. In case they had misread the intentions of the other ship, it would not seem that the Nautilus was overly hostile. "At the moment, we'll gather information. No hostile actions. We still have a schedule to keep in terms of arriving at that planet conference. As seems to be our typical lot, nothing ever goes easily," stated Paul raising his eyebrows. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus- Bridge- MXO- Lt Major Standorval Thrall- 1633) Thrall rose from his chair as Casely came on the bridge. He had to force himself not to announce the mission CO's arrival. As the two switched places at the command center Casely said, "Lieutenant Major, report please." "Sir," Thrall began, "Dr. Engtamn-Jensi noted some unusual energy readings coming from the planet. Then a ship emerged through the planet's shielding and is keeping itself exactlyon the other side of the planet." "I need a threat assessment," Casely ordered, "and tactical analysis. I don't want to engage, they don't seem hostile at the moment, but still. Please coordinate with Doctor Engtamn-Jensi, remember, he's taken a peace oath, as is common with his species, and won't have anything to do with our weaponry." "We're already on it sir," Thrall repleid. "I'm having some of the sensor that were on line be redirected for the purpose of analyzing the ship. Mr. Klars, do we have anything yet?" (reply Klars) Thrall headed up to the tactical station as Casely gave orders to the bridge crew. He asked McLaren to do a systems check, which Thrall had already started. ~It couldn't hurt.~ "At the moment," Casely said, "we'll gather information. No hostile actions. We still have a schedule to keep in terms of arriving at that planet conference. As seems to be our typical lot, nothing ever goes easily." Thrall let one side of his mouth curl up in a half smile. The result made his already wicked appearance, seem even more evil. He knew that there would most likely be no action, but the possibility gave him a rush of adrenaline. "We're starting to get some information in on the ship now, Lt." Thrall replied. "Are getting it Doctor." (posted by Al Muir) USS Nautilus, Engineering, ACEO Ensign JG Matthew McLaren, 1634) Matthew was shocked to see that so much had transpired while he was in the medical centre and was eager to get back into the swing of things. His concentration was interupted by a pager from the bridge. =^=Ensign McLaren, there is a chance we have a potential hostile out there. I need you to double and triple check that our shields, phasers and torpedos are in good working order. Lets not be caught with our pants down,=^= said Paul over the com system. Matthew stood and tapped his badge, "Aye sir." He walked out into the main section of engineering and stood by the centre table at a console. He ran level 4 diagnostics on all the defensive systems. They all checked out except for a minor power fluctuation in one of the phaser arrays. "McLaren to bridge, all defensive systems check out." (posted by Matthew McLaren) (USS Nautilus - Bridge/Helm - COUNS/Helm – Ensign (SG) Kassia Marta - 1635) Kass had been ignored for the time being and that was fine with her as her time would be coming. She did not want it to come too soon. The controls that she was manning was taking up all her attention and when the CSO, Dr. Engtamn spoke up it startled her. "Lieutenant Major, we have a strange energy reading on the planet.... well, it was on the planet," He had said. With the majors urging, the doctor continued, "Sir, it appears to be a ship's engine signature, breaking the planet's surface. I don't believe they have weapons powered or shields raised, but its hard to tell as their energy configuration is different than ours. They're entering a synchronous orbit with us... keeping the planet between us and them," Engtamn responded, "I might be able to tell more, but much of the sensor allocation is being given to scanning the planet at the moment." Kass heard Thrall put in a call that she knew would bring Paul back to the bridge instantly. As Paul sat down at his chair, He called out to the major to give him a status report. Once Thrall was done, Paul started his job as captain and ordered everyone to do various things. She had noticed that it seemed Paul operated more efficiently under stress. She had been impressed with him and looked up to him in accomplishing her duties. "Well, Starfleet protocol when dealing with ships who's intentions are unknown... Yellow Alert, disable klaxon," stated Paul. With that, yellow lights around the bridge began to flash and the lights dimmed to give focus to the equipment on the bridge. Kass was relieved that Paul had initiated Yellow alert as she had read about some captains that had not during similar incidents and they had lost their lives and ships. She pulled up her defensive and offensive maneuvering plans to make sure she understood them for when she needed them. Since they were in a position of strength at the moment, Paul had decided to gather information just in case. He still had the conference in mind and that was a good thing, the sign of a leader. She was really hoping that diplomatic relations could be achieved instead of open hostilities. She could also understand the sending out a ship to ensure the intentions of another craft entering their space. Maybe it was an escort ship, she hoped, so they could follow to the right landing zone. She just waited for either Paul or the ship to do something. (posted by Frank) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1638) The faces of the crew were cast in a sickly yellow glow from the Yellow Alert beacon. The mood on the bridge was taunt and serious. This crew had been in battle once before, they knew what to expect and how to react, at least to an extent. Still, Paul could feel a palpitable aura of tension emanating from them. Except for Thrall, who seemed to be like a kid in a candy store. The voice of Ensign McLaren broke the silence. =^=McLaren to bridge, all defensive systems check out.=^= "Thank you Mr. McLaren. Please send a team to ready the Waverider Atmospheric Shuttlecraft. Let me know how it checks out," stated Paul in response. McLaren often kept his responses short and to the point, but he seemed to be more than a proficient engineer. (Reply McLaren) Paul had decided as soon as this mission was cast that he would be taking the atmospheric shuttle. The Waverider was maneouverable and well built. For planetfall missions it was better than most shuttlecraft, and it was packed with scientific equipment meaning they could continue to scan the planet and its people. "Lieutenant Major Thrall, any advice on who I can take with me from Security when I make the planetfall?" asked Paul. (Reply Thrall) Paul nodded indicating he would consider it and went back to the problem at hand. "Doctor Engtamn-Jensi, is there any more information on the craft?" "Sir, they are maintaining their speed and distance. They have not powered up any form of weapons, nor have they raised any type of energy shield barrier," stated Engtamn softly. At the moment the other ship seemed benign. Paul now had to decide whether he would pursue the other ship or leave it alone and deal with the peace talks. "Ensign Marta, open hailing frequencies please," stated Paul, "Play the universal Starfleet greeting and ask for a response. They may have difficulty responding due to language difficulties but we should try. We really can't say they're violating Starfleet space... this is their own in the end." (Reply Marta) "Doctor Mackenzie, could you scan that vessel and determine number and type of life forms?" requested Paul. (Reply Mackenzie) With that, Paul touched his comm badge again, "Ensign Rogers, how are those translations coming?" =^=They're coming, Sir. We should be ready by the time we arrive.=^= "Good, keep me posted Mr. Rogers," stated Paul. =^=Aye Sir.=^= With that, Paul began to consider the ideas and responses of the crew. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus, engineering, Ensign McLaren, 1639) =^=Thank you Mr. McLaren. Please send a team to ready the Waverider Atmospheric Shuttlecraft. Let me know how it checks out,=^= stated Paul in response. "Yes sir, on my way." Matthew said closing the channel. He was never quite confident talking to a superior officer so he tried to keep conversations brief, he was just nervous of saying the wrong thing. He called out across engineering to two of the engineers. "Ok, you're with me we need to prep the Waverider, Chief Rourke you have engineering until I get back." He said, hoping still he wasn’t being too blunt in his orders. (Posted by McLaren) (USS Nautilus-Bridge-ACMO Lt. Cmdr. Kaitlyn Mackenzie-1640) As Kaitlyn monitored the sensors, she heard the door swish open to the lieutenant's ready room. They were currently under yellow alert and Kaitlyn watched for any anomalies that might penetrate the now better portion of the sensors. She listened with half an ear as Casely gave orders to the crew, awaiting her own. "Doctor Mackenzie, could you scan that vessel and determine number and type of life forms?" requested Paul. "Yes sir," she said, already working on it. Once again, she half listened as Casely gave the rest of the crew their own orders to carry out. It wasn't long before the enhanced sensors brought her the information she needed. "Sir, I'm showing 67 people aboard that ship." After a moment, she then added, "Their ship seems to be about half the size of our own." It was quiet for awhile, she guessed that Casely was assessing the situation and what they could possibly be up against should something arise. (Posted by: Stacey) (USS Nautilus- Bridge- MXO- Lt Major Standorval Thrall- 1641) Casely turned to look at Thrall. "Lieutenant Major Thrall, any advice on who I can take with me from Security when I make the planetfall?" Thrall thought for a moment. His first instinct was to recommend himself. After all, the mission CO should have the best protection that he could. Actually, Thrall was impressed that the Security Chief actually asked for a detail, without having to have it rammed down his throat, which was exactly what the marine was ready to do. So Casely actually took the wind out of Thrall's sails. With the long pause he looked over at Klars. As much as it pained Thrall to not go along he had to consider his new protégé. Then he said, "I believe Ensign Klars is the man for the job. I'd go along myself, but I'm fairly certain you’d object to that, so I'd say Klars would be my next choice. It would be a chance for him to show both of us he is capable of working in the structure of Starfleet. Besides, if he gives you any trouble I can easily remove him." Thrall turned to Klars. "If you think you're up to it," he said, looking at him expectantly. (posted by Al Muir) (USS Nautilus, Waverider Docking Area, ACEO Ensign JG McLaren, 1643) The Waverider was a small atmospheric shuttle designed for landing parties and it packed a fair bit of scientific equipment for its size. It was obvious why the Lieutenant wanted this shuttle to scan the planet. Bringing the systems online, he ran a quick level 5 diagnostic on everything and when it was finished he tapped his badge again. "McLaren to bridge. I have the Waverider online and its all go." (posted by McLaren) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant {JG} Paul Casely - 1643) Paul listened as Thrall made his recommendation as his security detail. At the conclusion he nodded to Thrall, "That seems fine Lieutenant Major. As for protocol, things are a little... unusual. I would like you to keep the comm channel open between our comm badges and the ship, but with audio coming from the Nautilus muted. That way you can hear us, but we can't hear you. Keep monitoring and get us out if there seems to be a problem. Likewise, if that seemingly benign ship out there decides not to remain benign, bring me back up immediately. Once my crew is safe, then I'll deal with rejoining peace talks if its possible. If, for some reason, it’s impossible to get us back up for whatever reason, please try to disable rather than destroy whenever possible. Dead men tell no tales. You'll have the bridge in my absence Lieutenant Major." (Reply Thrall) Paul was about to continue the discussion with Thrall when Doctor Mackenzie interrupted, "Sir, I'm showing 67 people aboard that ship." After a moment, she then added, "Their ship seems to be about half the size of our own." "Understood Doctor. Please patch the information into the tactical computer so military engagement plans can be started," stated Paul. This crew was good. They seemed to have a rather keen understanding of what was going on and how to interact with each other and himself. Paul wanted to believe that it was due to his leadership skills, but knew that the key reason was excellent training and being excellent officers themselves. (Reply Mackenzie) Paul mulled over the situation for a few moments. He had more or less decided on who would be with him for planetfall. He just needed the Waverider to be ready for their departure. Then, the call from McLaren came. =^=McLaren to bridge. I have the Waverider online and its all go.=^= "Thank you Mr. McLaren, good work. You'll find an Ensign De'Charin in one of the Engineering rooms. Tell him that he's on the away mission to analyse their technology. Sorry, I need you on the Nautilus at this point to keep her together, just in case that other ship ends up being less than friendly," stated Paul. De'Charin had been quite quiet since coming on board the Starbase. Now Casely decided he would give the Ensign a chance to prove himself. (Reply McLaren) Paul tapped his comm badge, "All right, I need Rogers, Marta, Klars and De'Charin to meet me in transporter room one in ten minutes. All except Security detail in full dress uniforms as this is a diplomatic mission." Paul hated full dress, but still, it was protocol in these cases. Paul turned back to Thrall, "Lieutenant Major, she's yours, please take good care of her." (Reply Thrall) On his way off the bridge Paul paused at Lieutenant Commander Mackenzie and dropped his voice so only she could hear him, "Kaitlyn, please make sure this Marine doesn't mess up my nice clean ship." He winked and grinned slightly... nervously... before exiting the bridge. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus, Bridge, COUNS/Helm – Ensign (SG) Kassia Marta - 1644) "Ensign Marta, open hailing frequencies please," stated Paul, "Play the universal Starfleet greeting and ask for a response. "Aye sir," replied Kass and after a few seconds, "Starfleet greeting playing sir." Kass continued her ordered flight path to the planet while also keeping an eye on the ship that had emerged just in case. She had her maneuvering plans already plotted and laid in, waiting for the word. She kept to her business and only paid a bit of attention to what all the others were saying in response to Paul's inquiries. "All right, I need Rogers, Marta, Klars and De'Charin to meet me in transporter room one in ten minutes. All except Security detail in full dress uniforms as this is a diplomatic mission." Kass heard Paul say first hand and over the intership communications. She had not really the opportunity to wear her dress uniform that often and was sort of looking forward to it. It was not really the one she would have picked first, but, she did not mind wearing it as it was a diplomatic mission. As soon as her relief arrived, she deleted her maneuvering plans, then, headed for her quarters to change. (Posted by Frank) (USS Nautilus- Bridge- ATAC ensign Dorrin Klars- 1644) Dorrin came alert as soon as the ship came into focus. He knew that this probably wouldn't result into a fight, but if it did Dorrin wouldn't be the one to cost them casulties due to inattentiveness. "No sir," Dorrin replied. His analysis wasn't near enough done that it would provide any useful information. Dorrin listened with one ear as the yellow alert started. "Please patch the information into the tactical computer so military engagement plans can be started," stated Paul. "Aye sir," she said. ~Military engagement plans.....with Lt. Major Thrall? I don't even wanna think about it anymore.~ She liked the Major, but thought he had a definite attitude problem at times. The more she thought about it, they were sort of alike in that area, only she had learned not to open her mouth and get herself into trouble. As she started working on patching the information through, she heard Casely say, "Lieutenant Major, she's yours, please take good care of her." From the way things looked, Kaitlyn was almost certain that Paul didn't really like handing command over to Thrall. And in a way it almost scared her because of the battle look that was always in his eye. Deciding not to worry about it, she finished up on the information she was patching through when she heard a voice right next to her ear. "Kaitlyn, please make sure this Marine doesn't mess up my nice clean ship." She watched as Paul winked and grinned at her, and cracked a small smile of her own back. She nodded her head in understanding, figuring that her feelings about Casely and Thrall must have been dead on. "What ever you say Lt.," Thrall nodded, frowning a little at the 'disable rather than destroy' order, he always thought that dead and destroyed were a safer combination than alive and able to attack,"you're the boss. If things get hairy down there I can always just stun everyone in your vacinity and seperate the bodies afterwards. And I'll try to leave some of the fun for yourself." Casely didn't look like he was quite through, but went through the other officers with their orders. Most of them were going on the away mission. Thrall's idea of detant was photon grenade down his enemies pants. It's amazing how much peace one can accomplish from such a position. The Lt. ordered his team to the transporters and turned back to him. ,"Lieutenant Major, she's yours, please take good care of her," Casely ordered. "Aye sir," Thrall replied. "I'll treat her like she was my own mother. Of course, I wound up killing my own mother, but you don't really need to know that right now." Thrall looked Casely dead pan, in the eye. Finally a corner of his mouth curled up and he gave a little wink. "Good luck Lt." He turned to Klars, and was starting to dislike his attitude again. here he was giving the man a chance to prove himself, and his body language gave all the signs of a man holding back a rage. ~Perhaps he just needs counseling.~ "Ensign," Thrall said, "best behavior always. In the event that the bridge was attacked, it assured she had more protection than others and her commands could continue to be heard. In the event that things went very bad, this complete cell could be ejected and fly under low impulse control until she was picked up. They had been monitoring the 'Federation' ship for some time now. She knew her duty, although she wished these creatures no harm. In fact, she just wanted to secure the right for those who wished to leave the planet before the next phase to be allowed to do so. For her entire life, she had endured the planet shifting from one phase of existence to another. Now they had returned to the place the 'humans' had come from and some wanted off world, she could understand that and would want that same if it were her... in fact, she had every intent of leaving with her husband... if they survived. "Like the television when homework is to be done, we must become," she stated. She knew that their distraction was key to the faction on the planet being heard. "Einstein station, is the Houdini inhibitor ready to be engaged?" "Aye," came the standard reply. Once the work on the planet started, she knew that the officer going down there would be stuck. She had no plans to engage the other ship. They were simply there to make sure that the Starfleet people stayed down and had to listen to their people. Trevnor must be heard. General Main Operations was relatively quiet, now it buzzed, a hive of activity. Scans commenced, communications, readiness in case of trouble, systems checks. Everything seemed to go on at once. The Captain was still in talks with the ambassadors on the station, deep in talks about the planet. She had heard that some of the Ambassadors wanted to pre-empt and go to war while others were urging a more cautious and concilliatory response. She hoped that cooler heads prevailed. For now, Admiral Gr'iann was in control... she had heard rumours about his strange behaviour as of late and hoped that he was up for the task. Zadora had no problem with ignoring any command she felt out of line and would challenge the Admiral if need be, but that would be more than a little uncomfortable. Zadora looked at the screen and sighed. The Nautilus had missed a reporting time... the first time they had missed a status report since they left space dock. She wondered what was going on and flipped on the communications system. "Starbase Geneva to USS Nautilus. Please report on your status and situation at this point," she stated expecting to hear Casely's voice at any moment. (Reply Thrall) "Thank you Lieutenant-Major, another report will be due at 1730," stated Zadora calmly. It was not surprising that Thrall didn't know Starfleet protocol in this kind of situation. They lived in their own little world, those marines. Zadora figured he was rather unsure of what landed him in command in the first place. ~Too many young officers without battle training or experience I suspect.~ she thought to herself. She knew Casely's records, but also knew that almost all of the rest of the crew had very little experience at this point, despite the fact they seemed to be rising to every occasion like pros. (Reply Thrall) Zadora swung around to the Admiral and relayed the report from the Nautilus. "Sir, Casely is apparently making planetfall as we speak. That should place him, more or less, on time. They still don't know the identity of the 'alien' ship and have gone to yellow alert. Recommend we do the same, Sir," stated Zadora. She knew regulations and as long as they didn't know what that ship packed, it was fair to assume there could be problems in the future. (Reply Gr'iann) "Mr. Miller? What is the status of our shields and armaments?" she asked the young engineer. He had been poking around in Main Ops for some time, doing minor maintenance and repair. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (USS Nautilus- Bridge- MXO- Lt Major Standorval Thrall- 1656) Thrall shifted his weight, uncomfortably, in the command chair. The crew was disappearing, for the away mission, at an alarming rate. Pretty soon, he was going to be left with a skeleton crew. Less people to argue with him then. He'd rather be running through emergency drills, so he set up a series of battle alerts, the first was to rig for a silent running. Before he could give the command, however a communication came in from Geneva. =^=Starbase Geneva to USS Nautilus. Please report on your status and situation at this point.=^= "The away team is one it's way. There is another ship, that has apparently come from the surface, on the opposite side of the planet. We are uncertain to it's disposition at this time." =^=Thank you Lieutenant-Major, another report will be due at 1730.=^= "No, no Geneva," Thrall said, his voice dripping with sarcasm, "thank you Geneva. Nautilus out." He humphed as he closed the channel, then his spirits brightened as he remembered his drill and tapped a few keys. "Thrall to all crew, rig for silent running. I repeat, rig for silent running. Engineering, we need to simulate that our warp core has ided. Can you do that?" (posted by Al Muir) (USS Nautilus, Transporter Room One, AFO/TAC/SC, Lieutenant Paul Casely, 1657) Paul stood there, uncomfortably in his dress uniform. He tugged it slightly to rearrange the hem. ~Never did like these things.~ He thought to himself as he glanced to the medal on his chest. He looked at the blue combat action ribbon and thought back to the events that had earned it. He felt himself slowly resolve that he would go out of his way not to cause casualties on either side. As he was in thought, Ensign Rogers walked in, also tugging on his uniform. Paul grinned slightly to himself. He leaned over and whispered in the ear of the Ensign. "Mr. Rogers, did you take care of your particular medical needs before getting ready for this mission?" "Yes Sir, I'm dosed up for awhile. It should be fine," came the predictable reply. With that dealt with, Paul waited for the rest of his Away Team to arrive. (Posted by Jeff Bergeron) (Starbase Geneva-Medical Center-CMO- Admiral Gr'iann -1658) Gr'iann had been about to step into a holosuite when he got the call to report to the Captain. He had hoped that this "treatment" would abate his needs for a while. He stood still , as if frozen, and thinking, for a few moments. Then, with a deep sigh he headed to the captain's office. The door opened as he approached, and he looked to see Lise Arianna, not looking her best. Her eyes were bloodshot, and her hair was a mess. She looked like she hadn't slept in days. His own grave look turned quickly to one of concern. Heis paw immediately went for his tricorder but she waved him off. "There's nothing you can do, Doctor," she said, forcing a smile, "that a month on Risa wouldn't take care of." Unconvinced, he sat down across from her. As he sat, he managed to get his tricorder out again and scanned Arianna. "These negotiations I'm working on are not going as expected. I need you to watch over the station, while I deal with this. These are critical times for this." "I underrstand Captain," Gr'iann offered, "but do you think..." She interrupted himbefore he could say anything else. "I've been apprised of your... situation, but I also know that you can handle it, and your duties. Admiral... Gr'iann... I need you to do this." Gr'iann thought she was going to cry. His scan showed what he thought. She was exhasted and under great stress. Finally he nodded. "I will do this, only if you take that timme on Rrisa afterrwarrds." "Agreed," Arianna said with a smile, this one a little more genuine. Gr'iann rose from his seat and reached across the table. He put a paw to her cheek. "Try to get somme rrest." With that the doctor headed out to main ops, where he could monitor the progress of the mission. "Rreporrt please." "Sir, Casely is apparently making planetfall as we speak. That should place him, more or less, on time. They still don't know the identity of the 'alien' ship and have gone to yellow alert. Recommend we do the same, Sir," Zadora said. "I agrrree," Gr'iann stated, "take us to yellow alerrt." Then Zadora went around Ops and got reports for the stations. He knew that Medical was well covered with Wendy Kildare down there. "Let me know when anything changes," Gr'iann told Zadora. (posted by Al Muir) (USS Nautilus-Transporter Room-ATAC ensign Dorrin Klars-1659) Dorrin knew that as part of the security detail, he had a bigger chance to get killed or injured, but it was all worth it, for the reason that because he was part of the security team he did not have to wear dress uniforms. When he went into the room he saw Casely and Ensign Rogers waiting and all seeming to wish that they didn't have to wear dress uniforms. He stepped onto the transporter pad and waited, while waiting he repressed a grin with extreme difficulty. (Posted by Dan Black) (USS Nautilus - Transporter room - COUNS – Ensign (SG) Kassia Marta - 1700) Kass felt a little self conscious when she entered the transporter room to find Paul, Brian and Dorrin already there and on the pads waiting for her. She pulled on her uniform to make sure it was fit right then made her way up to the pads. She turned around to face the transporter chief and, along with the others, for the transport over. She could feel the heat on her face as it was red as a beet. (Posted by Frank) (USS Nautilus, Engineering, ACEO Ensign JG McLaren, 1701) After being told to remain on the ship Matthew headed back to engineering to do some more work. As he stepped through the double doors though a communication came through from the bridge. =^=Thrall to all crew, rig for silent running. I repeat, rig for silent running. Engineering, we need to simulate that our warp core has idled. Can you do that?=^= "Aaa yes sir." Matthew replied a bit confused. He didn’t recognize the voice and thought the order a bit strange, "Sir, may I ask who I am speaking to?" (Reply) "Oh right, understood sir. Ill get right on it. McLaren out." Matthew began entering the commands for the simulation into his console. He couldn’t help feeling that battle drills should have been run earlier and not while they were being surveyed by the other ship, but orders were orders. "McLaren to bridge, your simulation is running." he said into the air. (posted by Matthew) [END OF COMPILE]
