(16.05) The core was back and the cloak was ready to be engaged, Remae was seated when he ordered the activation of the device. Once enabled, the Spectre could pass through anything normal space could throw at them. Remae began to calm down, with the cloak enabled, it would be a hard task for anyone to find them. Even so, it would be a few hours at impulse before they reached an entryway into the subspace river. The CO noticed that Maber was on the Bridge, working away at his terminal. "Ensign, what effects will the cloak have when we enter the river?", he asked, wondering about if the ship would be able to use the river. "Perhaps, you and Maria Orde could examine the cloak and find out somemore?" (Reply from Octan) He nodded at the answer and continued his mental preparations for the meeting at 17.00, he had to let them all know about their new orders and the consequences they all faced. (Reply from Octan, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre, Bridge, Kahila Lono, 15:35) Kahila had, only moments before, returned to the Bridge. She'd taken an hour of R & R, then visited Sickbay, talking with patients there, doing some informal counseling. Not only were some of them still recovering from severe injuries, but had also lost companions and friends in the battle. She immediately noted the rather haggard appearance of the Captain. When Remae returned to his Ready Room, Kahila hoped he'd manage to rest while there, not just continue his already long work day. She felt Pierce's inner attention, then, and he sent to her: ~Kahlia, could you keep an eye on him? Convince him to rest or something if he comes out of there as exhausted as he looks now?~ Perhaps you, Ms. Anderson, and I could corner him and get him to get some sleep. At least him, if not the entire Alpha shift.~ ~That's a good suggestion, Pierce. He made sure I took an hour off, but he won't do the same for himself.~ (USS Spectre, Bridge, Kahila Lono, 16:00) Kahila had been monitoring reports from Engineering, as well as transferring reports from Science onto a PADD for the Captain's later perusal. When announcement and the victorious uproar that accompanied it, came from Engineering, she let out a loud whoop, joining them. She let her empathic senses bask in the moment. It was the sort of comraderie and sense of accomplishment she'd imagined, when joining Starfleet. She could feel it all coming together -- ship and crew-- mingling. She suddenly felt a strong, new presence, an unusual mental configuration, and realized it must be the new ACEO, who she had not met yet. ~How interesting,~ she thought. She noticed Pierce, contentedly working, and sipping his coffee. Kahila picked up her own coffee cup, walked to his work station, and held up her cup, toast-wise. "Let's hope for more moments like this," she said to him, as their cups clicked briefly. "It may not be champaign, but the celebration is just as real." reply any posted by Josephine Goodman (USS Spectre, CSO's office, CSO, Ensign Octan Maber- 15.45) =^=Bridge to Maber, Ensign can you report to me with your findings on the Xenolithe and any analysis you were able to get from the probe data. I'll need a full briefing before we get to Geneva=^= The call came just as Octan was finishing up his report. The battle had not gone well - and now they were crippled in space, stuck with a bunch of colonists and too many crewmembers dead. Octan couldn't understand why - the Xenolithe didn't seem like that much of a threat. Technologically they were far less advanced than the Federation, but their tenacity and natural toughness seemed to make up for it. Octan reflected on the last couple of days. Things had been hectic since he arrived on the Spectre and, with a wry smile, he realised that he had still not completed his very first assignment on arriving - organising his department. (USS Spectre, Bridge, CSO Ensign Octan Maber, 16:00) Octan arrived on the bridge in the midst of celebrations - the warp core was back online. He started towards the captain, but swiftly changed his mind. It could wait. Crossing over to his bridge console, he began scanning the probe data - some of them were still online, but the images coming through were badly scrambled due to the heacy subspace interference. "Ensign, what effects will the cloak have when we enter the river?", Remae asked, startling Octan, who hadn't noticed the Captain coming up to him. "Perhaps, you and Maria Orde could examine the cloak and find out somemore?" "Unknown at this stage, Sir," Octan replied. "We could scan it and run a few simulations once we know the exact composition. In the meantime, here are the reports you asked for." Octan handed over a PADD. "It doesn't tell us much new, though," he mused as he turned back to his station. ~Who the hell is Maria Orde?~ he thought, quickly bringing up the ship's roster. Another name jumped up at him. Horacio Tyrell. SO. Where was he all this time? Octan tapped his commbadge. "Ensign Tyrell, please report to bridge." Time to get things organised. (Reply Remae, Tyrell, Any) (Posted by Arnaud Malherbe) (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae - 16.10) "Unknown at this stage, Sir," "We could scan it and run a few simulations once we know the exact composition. In the meantime, here are the reports you asked for." Remae thanked the CSO for his analysis; the reports would be very useful when he showed them to Starfleet Command. They would need the data if and when they launched a counter strike at the Xenolithe. He also thought that the studies of the Xenolithe would be useful but so far, Maber hadn't reported any findings. "Carry on Ensign.", said the Captain returning to his small computer console. It wasn't long before the Acting CEO reported in, Remae was surprised at the use of the Ensign's Nickname but he flowed with it. =^= Doc to Captain, engineering report here sir. We're looking at three hours until we can try and bring warp online. If you have any extra crew down there, we'd love to see another round of help. Other than that, we'll keep working... =^= "Understood, Doc! We'll see what we can do, Bridge out. Pierce, can you round up anyone with an Engineering Rating to give them a hand?" He stood up and headed for the Observation Lounge, "Kahila, you have the Bridge.", he said nodding in her direction as he entered the lounge. (USS Spectre, Observation Lounge, CO, Captain Remae - 16.55) Some of the crew were beginning to enter the lounge, mindful of what happened last time. Drinks were collected from the replicator, and a general feeling of exhaustion seemed be emanating from everyone. Remae was sure he wasn't immune as well. What he wouldn't give for a few hours on the Holodeck in his swimming program, it felt like a long time had passed since he last spent anytime to himself. "Thank you for coming, at ease everyone please - we've been through a lot recently, there's no need to stand on ceremony for me. Firstly, let me introduce some new arrivals to the ship." Remae in turn introduced the new ACEO, Ensign Traynor and then the new Acting Chief Engineering Officer, Ensign Peabody. Nods and a few handshakes ensued and after everyone was finished, the CO continued. "The ship is in better shape than it was, thank you all for your efforts. our course will take us to Starbase Geneva where we'll have access to a Spacedock and get the chance to resupply. please make out your department requirements to the First Officer. We'll also be changing configuration of the ship, we'll be moving from Tactical to Exploration refitting." He headed over to the main viewscreen and brought up the systems of the Spectre. "This will mean more probes, better long range sensors and even the chance to carry colonists, the downside is that the phasers will be downgraded and we'll lose some of our torpedo capacity. Pierce, can you work out the breakage? I'd rather not loose too much of the offensive capability of the ship, even though we all know the Spectre isn't designed for combat." (Reply from Pierce) "Ensign Maber, can you pull the specifications of the sensors, probes and any other equipment you would like to get from this refit regarding exploration, I'll leave that in your capable hands. Proceed as you see fit.", said the Bajoran. (Reply from Maber) Remae returned to his seat, "All this will take 4-6 weeks at Geneva, let's see if we can get that down quickly. the reason for that is as follows." The Bajoran looked at the PADD for a moment, the same PADD that the ACMO had brought with her when she arrived, "When Ensign Traynor came aboard, inside her orders were hidden orders for me from Admiral LoDona, Commanding Officer of the 52nd Fleet. Apparently, when the Admiral was unable to reach us via subspace, he sent this message to us directly. Along with those orders were reports from the highest levels of Starfleet Command and the Federation indicating that something was very wrong at the heart of the Federation. I'll let the Admiral explain further." The CO accessed the message and transferred it to the large screen in the room. 'For those that don't know me, I'm Admiral Robert LoDona, CO of the 52nd. It has come to my attention lately that things... are not as they should be.' Remae had seen the message a dozen times now but he hoped that it would end a different way. 'I am sending you a full database worth of information, what you choose to do with it is up to you. I can only tell you my thoughts on the matter, and my plans. It is a foul time indeed when the same uniform and oath hides both traitors, and patriots. Such a time has come upon us, a time we must choose who is our friend; those that would help us preserve the Federation, from those that would simply remake it into a twisted shell of its previous glory. I have spent my life defending our boarders, and protecting the enduring philosophy that has become our way of life. In good conscience, I can no longer stand idly by as forces of evil and ambition rip apart the very foundation of the Federation. We no longer have anywhere to hide; we cannot turn blindly away and pray for the best any longer, we must stand our ground once and for all time. We are the Front lines, on the first of many battlegrounds, and we are the last line of defence. If we fail, we will be left with naught but oblivion.' 'We will do what is necessary; anything more then that I cannot tell you. But for the record... I hereby accuse and condemn Admiral Doenitz and all involved of High Treason, I curse their names and vow they will be removed, by any means necessary. I will be in touch, LoDona out.' The message ended, Remae looked away from the viewscreen and back at the officers of the Spectre, as the whispers subsided, he continued on. "There we are, that same message was basically sent to just about every Admiral and Captain in the fleet, I am afraid that I've not received additional orders from LoDona or Starfleet Command." Remae pressed a few more buttons and the viewscreen changed once more. "This is the current situation within scanning range, no ships are where they are suppose to be, the means that the fleet is deciding what to do next, who to follow and who to support. its entirely possible that we'll encounter other Federation ships along the way to Geneva but we won't be able to tell if they intend to attack but we'll remained cloaked until we get to Geneva." "I intend to go to Geneva and talk to LoDona personally to see what evidence he has directly and ask him what he intends to do next. The only other choice is to return to Earth and perhaps become a part whatever is wrong there. I hope LoDona is wrong." "Questions?", asked Remae looking around the room before adding, "Please speak freely." (Reply from Anyone) As Remae listened to the questions that we being thrown around, it occurred to him that Doenitz would more that likely attack Geneva as soon as he could, hopefully, it would take months to get that organised. (Reply from ALL) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre: Observation Lounge - TAC/SC Pierce Orde - 1654) Orde had found himself in the Observation Lounge a few minutes early -- what a surprise! -- and busied himself with a PADD in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other. He was conscious of Kahlia not sitting down directly next to him, but he dismissed it. Filed in the back of his mind came the opening statements of Captain Remae, all the way up to: "Pierce, can you work out the breakage? I'd rather not loose too much of the offensive capability of the ship, even though we all know the Spectre isn't designed for combat." "Aye, sir," Pierce said with a nod, "I'll do what I can." Most of the rest of the meeting passed quickly for the lieutenant, including the note of treason. He had no questions for the massed group of officers... he had enough on his plate just with dealing with his own department and its shortages. As for tactical 'problems', one small thing stood out in his mind, although he daren't speak it there: Firestorm. The tests on the Photon Flux Cannon that had been hastily rigged onto Spectre were an unqualified success, leaving him with an ace up his sleeve. The only problem was that the other ship with one of the cannons (functional) was at Utopia Planitia -- well within the grasp of the traitors(?) to use if they knew of its presence. It would be a simple matter, in his mind, to study the design and build another cannon to outfit the small ship to wage war. Throw in a cloak like that belonged to Spectre, and you had a fast and very dangerous ship. At that, his mind was made up: the Flux Cannon onboard Spectre would stay there, as a bit of teeth that she wouldn't already have (she was fast enough to use the cannon effectively, right?). So: get as much added to her legs and shielding as possible, drop the tricobalts, steal phaser upgrades from whereever he could... that should be enough to keep her edge. ~Maybe it's possible to get the cannon to fire in conjunction with the phase cloak... maybe not.~ NRPG: We still have Gort, right? RPG: (USS Spectre: Torpedo Tube 1 - TAC/SC Pierce Orde - 1756) Pierce Orde found himself in full dress uniform, standing alongside the Captain as the Bajoran read off the names of the deceased. His own heart went out to the brave men and women who had died in the last actions, but he could not weep for them, not then. He would wait until he was in his quarters (or before his own personnel) before he would start mourning the dead -- there was too much to get done. (Reply any) (Posted by Lenox) -Lenox - Lord of Hyphens ---------------------------------------- (USS Spectre, Observation Lounge, ACEO Peabody - 16.57) Peabody walked quickly down the hallway towards the observation lounge. The repairs on the nacelles was progressing well enough, but Walter wished there had been a better way to deal with the mass of problems the Spectre would be facing. She was hurt in so many different places, it was amazing she was still holding together. There were problems the damage control teams hadn't even discovered that waited in the wings. That didn't make the ACEO feel any better, but for the moment he wasn't going to complain. They were still alive. For now. He entered the room, snagging a small grape juice from the replicator and sat down. Whatever was about to happen had his attention. "Thank you for coming, at ease everyone please - we've been through a lot recently, there's no need to stand on ceremony for me. Firstly, let me introduce some new arrivals to the ship." Remae in turn introduced the new ACMO, Ensign Traynor and then the new Acting Chief Engineering Officer, Ensign Peabody. We'll also be changing configuration of the ship, we'll be moving from Tactical to Exploration refitting." The Doc sighed in relief. This Spectre needed a starbase as soon as it was possible. He wasn't sure she would hold together with their repairs. The officers were good, but they needed to get outside the ship to deal with her. And that wasn't going to happen anytime soon. "This will mean more probes, better long range sensors and even the chance to carry colonists, the downside is that the phasers will be downgraded and we'll lose some of our torpedo capacity. Pierce, can you work out the breakage? I'd rather not loose too much of the offensive capability of the ship, even though we all know the Spectre isn't designed for combat." I'll let the Admiral explain further." Walter nodded and faced the screen. He didn't like messages from Admirals that played before the entire crew. It was either news they had been assigned to a bigger ship or that they were all gonna die. He was betting on the second option. 'For those that don't know me, I'm Admiral Robert LoDona, CO of the 52nd. It has come to my attention lately that things... are not as they should be. I am sending you a full database worth of information, what you choose to do with it is up to you. I can only tell you my thoughts on the matter, and my plans. Peabody felt a cold sweat break out on his palms. High Treason. Admiral Doenitz. It was a terrifying thought, one the Doc didn't lookfoward to further investigating this. He liked being down in the belly of the beast, not out in the open cleaning out the filth of the galaxy. That was a cowboy's job. He wasn't a cowboy. He was the sheriff of the engineering room. That was about it. "There we are, that same message was basically sent to just about every Admiral and Captain in the fleet, I am afraid that I've not received additional orders from LoDona or Starfleet Command." Walter looked back to the screen as Remae explained it. "This is the current situation within scanning range, no ships are wherethey are suppose to be, the means that the fleet is deciding what to do next, who to follow and who to support. its entirely possible that we'll encounter other Federation ships along the way to Geneva but we won't be able to tell if they intend to attack but we'll remained cloaked until we get to Geneva.I intend to go to Geneva and talk to LoDona personally to see what evidence he has directly and ask him what he intends to do next. The only other choice is to return to Earth and perhaps become a part whatever is wrong there. I hope LoDona is wrong. Questions? Please speak freely." Not one person spoke up right away. Walter himself felt the pangs of concern running through his mind and heart. What of the crew he had left behind at Earth? What of the men and women he had served with over the years? It shook him to think that he had served with traitors over his lifetime in Starfleet. It was sobering to realize that the human heart never stayed far from evil under the right conditions. The Doc raised his hand slightly. "Captain...I do believe Admiral LaDona from his message. What little I've known about the man gives me trust in his word. I do wonder what awaits us at Geneva and if we should prepare for a possible battle situation. If this message came into the wrong hands, there could be a fleet on its way already..." He noticed a few panicked looks and quickly went about repairing the hold he had just opened. "But we are cloaked and safe. My apologies, I didn't intend to throw ideas out without thought to them." He looked to the captain. "I do think we need to be ready for anything. I'm ready to answer the call sir." Peabody leaned back and waited. (reply Remae, any in the room?, ALL needing to respond) (posted by adelay) (USS Spectre - Observation Lounge - Acting CMO Anderson - 1700) Rain had just taken her seat next to Traynor when the meeting began. Rain studied a split fingernail as the new members of the crew were introduced and plans for the refit of the Spectre were discussed. Her ears pricked up when the Captain began to talk about the hidden message from Admiral LoDona. She sat transfixed as the Admiral's message appeared on the screen. Rain could not remember hearing the words high treason linked with Starfleet before and the ramifications of this news shocked her.... and many of the others around the table if their expressions could be believed. "I intend to go to Geneva and talk to LoDona personally to see what evidence he has directly and ask him what he intends to do next. The only other choice is to return to Earth and perhaps become a part whatever is wrong there. I hope LoDona is wrong." The Captain stated and Rain wished she could be at that meeting too. When questions were asked for, nobody seemed to know what to ask or say. Finally, a hand went up, belonging to the new ACEO. "Captain...I do believe Admiral LoDona from his message. What little I've known about the man gives me trust in his word. I do wonder what awaits us at Geneva and if we should prepare for a possible battle situation. If this message came into the wrong hands, there could be a fleet on its way already..." he paused and looked around. "But we are cloaked and safe. My apologies, I didn't intend to throw ideas out without thought to them." He looked to the captain. "I do think we need to be ready for anything. I'm ready to answer the call sir." Peabody leaned back and waited. Tentatively, Rain raised her hand. "Captain , I think that this situation will bring a lot of distrust and suspicion amongst the crew. Do you support LoDona? Could you be a traitor? And so on. I recommend that we keep the knowledge confined to senior staff to control the paranoia." (Reply Remae, any at meeting) <> (USS Spectre, Observation Lounge, Kahila Lono,17:00) Kahila had arrived five minutes early, obtained a coffee, and sat down, near Pierce, but not beside him. She didn't feel in the mood for any before-meeting conversation. Her empathic sense couldn't help picking up the Captain's disturbingly edgy emotions. She knew this meeting was far more than just ship business. She was glad for a few moments to turn inward, as she sipped her coffee. The Captain began the meeting with little in the way of formality. Then he in turn introduced the new ACEO, Ensign Traynor and then the new Acting Chief Engineering Officer, Ensign Peabody. Kahila was not seated near either, so she contented herself with nodding to each of them, hoping she'd have time for a personal conversation later. She thought wryly, ~No matter where we are, new crewmembers find their way to us-- it must be an extra sense, like migratory birds.~ Then Remae continued: "The ship is in better shape than it was, thank you all for your efforts. our course will take us to Starbase Geneva where we'll have access to a Spacedock and get the chance to resupply. please make out your department requirements to the First Officer. We'll also be changing configuration of the ship, we'll be moving from Tactical to Exploration refitting." ~Starbase Geneva. That at least is welcome news, after all the ship has been through. And too, the Exploration refitting. I wonder if we'll be doing more scientific work.~ Kahila listened as Remae discussed with Pierce and Maber various aspects of the Spectre's systems. Then, growing visibly solemn, the Captain looked at the PADD he carried, and said: "When Ensign Traynor came aboard, inside her orders were hidden orders for me from Admiral LoDona, Commanding Officer of the 52nd Fleet." Kahila watched and listened to the orders from Admiral LoDona, understanding now the Captain's near-grim demeanor. ~This is nothing that I would have expected! It's one thing to know we're in danger from Romulans or Xenolithe -- but to suspect other Starfleet officers and ships -- it's hard to take in.~ Then Remae continued: "This is the current situation within scanning range, no ships are where they are suppose to be, the means that the fleet is deciding what to do next, who to follow and who to support. its entirely possible that we'll encounter other Federation ships along the way to Geneva but we won't be able to tell if they intend to attack but we'll remained cloaked until we get to Geneva." "I intend to go to Geneva and talk to LoDona personally to see what evidence he has directly and ask him what he intends to do next. The only other choice is to return to Earth and perhaps become a part whatever is wrong there. I hope LoDona is wrong." Kahila was somewhat relieved to hear that Remae planned to ask about LoDona's evidence. Though she was certain the Admiral must have good reason to initiate such a mission, she thoroughly wished some mistake could be found, something reasonable, something to negate any coming battles. After the Captain asked for questions, Kahila waited -- unsure herself what to ask, wondering about the thoughts of the others. reply any posted by Josephine Goodman <>
