Proceed at on course, warp 8 and engage when ready. Captain out.", he said. standing up he was back-dropped by the streaking stars of acceleration as the Spectre engaged her warp engines. At that speed, they would be back at Sector 001 within the hour. After dropping off Lt Gort, the Ferengi were upto their own affairs, Remae wondered what they were doing up this close to Sector 001, anyway, before he could think too hard, the door opened up on the newest arrival to the Spectre. "Lieutenant Gort, reporting as ordered, sir." 'Welcome aboard Ferengi. I mean, Lt Gort.", Remae blushed at not concentrating on the new arrival's name instead of his race. "Welcome aboard.", he smiled and took the PADD, inviting the Ferengi to sit on the well worn, stuffing falling out, couch. (Reply from Gort) Remae read the PADD and it did indeed confirm the orders, Gort was their new Operations Officer, it seems like L'Tal had been reassigned, for now. "As you know, you've been assigned as our new Operations Officer, a demanding role but you're my liaison to all departments of the ship, I expect and demand your interaction with all of them to be familiar, take the time to investigate all of the various senior departments the Spectre has to offer and the ships capabilities." The Bajoran had a close connection with the Spectre, that was clear but the crew needed to know what she could do as well, one of the reasons for the recent exercises, even though they were brief. "In addition, I want you to get familiar with the phase cloaking device, even though the actual maintenance of the unit falls to Engineering, it'll be up to you to monitor and adjust it, in a crisis situation, the cloak could save the ship more than her moderate weapons array." "Anyway, that's all, we'll be arriving back at Earth within the hour, and then I have a meeting to attend to, after which I have no doubt we'll be off on a mission, the first mission this ship has been on, well, for sometime. unless there are any questions?", Remae said, passing back the PADD with the activation codes for the Operations Officer's tour of duty and access to all systems needed to complete his duties. (Reply from Gort) "Dismissed.", he said simply, returning to his computer. as the Ferengi left, Remae thought back to his mistake and actually let out a quick laugh, before getting himself a drink from his replicator. (Reply from Gort, Any) (Posted by Anthony Keen) --------------- Freedom Squadron, a Star Trek email adventure www.freedom-squadron.com (USS Spectre: Bridge - Kahila Lono - 1710) Kahila was scanning the reports coming into her chair-arm display, when she grew aware of Pierce's inner communication: ~Kahlia, dinner after we go off-duty?~ he sent wordlessly as he resumed his station. ~Lovely idea, Pierce. Thanks. How about 18:00 in the Observation Lounge?~ She sensed his agreement, then finished the reports, making a few notations into a PADD. Then she passed the PADD to Captain Remae, saying. "Everything seems to be going smoothly for the return trip." Then she bid him good evening, and as the next shift Bridge crew came on deck, she went out the door and down the corridor. (USS Spectre, personal quarters, Kahila Lono, 17:55) Kahila had decided on non-uniform clothing for her dinner with Pierce. She gazed at herself in the dresser mirror. ~It feels good to wear something feminine for a change; it's been a long time.~ Her magenta, silk skirt rustled against her legs. She brushed her still-short hair. It hadn't grown much since her stint as Marianne. That was usually fine with her, but tonight Kahila regretted the loss of her long black hair. ~Well, but anyway, it does have a certain free-form appearance.~ She finished buttoning the silver buttons of her white blouse. Then she left her quarters, and took the turbolift to the Observation Lounge. She was sitting at a table, gazing out the nearest port when Pierce entered the Lounge and came over to the table. She looked up and smiled. (Reply Pierce) (posted by Josephine Goodman) (USS Spectre, Ready Room - OPS Lt Gort - 1710) Gort had been escorted through the bowels of the USS Spectre. His garish clothing clashed with the heavy Starfleet decor, yet he continued to stride in the confident manner of a man who knows his profits are safe and returning to his private vaults on Ferenginar. At one point he had been able to see out from an observation port and the view that greeted him was not the vast majesty of their family Marauder, but the diminishing image of a Marauder following orders and leaving at high impulse. Clutching the one and only bag he had allowed himself to bring - this was after all a military vessel - Gort strolled throughout the ship with his escort, gently fingering the contents of his bag to reassure him that they were all there, and that he was doing the right thing. As the door to the Ready Room opened there was no hesitation in Gort's eyes as he took out the PADD containing his orders, offering it to the Captain, and said "Lieutenant Gort, reporting as ordered, sir." (Reply Ktell, Pierce? Any) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre, Ready Room - OPS Lt Gort - 1711) "Welcome aboard Ferengi. I mean, Lt Gort." The Captain paused, stumbling over his mistake before recovering to finish with, "Welcome aboard." Whatever remained of the Lieutenant's jagged-toothed smile following the captains faux pas didn't budge to show the disdain he felt when asked to sit on the Ready Room's tattered sofa. Disdain which quickly disappeared behind the reinforced smile of the salesman. "My dear Captain Bajoran, my cousin Tork could re-upholster that sofa... Return it to mint condition... I promise you, the man's an artist! You'd never know it had been touched!" Sensing he wasn't getting anywhere, and at least in part acknowledging the more pressing matters at hand, Gort relaxed from his sales pitch, "We can discuss that later if you wish. Perhaps we should move onto more pressing business." Another toothy grin. "As you know, you've been assigned as our new Operations Officer, a demanding role but you're my liaison to all departments of the ship, I expect and demand your interaction with all of them to be familiar, take the time to investigate all of the various senior departments the Spectre has to offer and the ships capabilities." The Captain seemed to relax whilst talking about his ship, and it took a moment for him to continue. "In addition, I want you to get familiar with the phase cloaking device, even though the actual maintenance of the unit falls to Engineering, it'll be up to you to monitor and adjust it, in a crisis situation, the cloak could save the ship more than her moderate weapons array." "Anyway, that's all, we'll be arriving back at Earth within the hour, and then I have a meeting to attend to, after which I have no doubt we'll be off on a mission, the first mission this ship has been on, well, for sometime. unless there are any questions?" "No sir. No questions... Except," Gort gave his biggest grin yet, "where can I guy set up his domjot table around here?" The Captain let out a small smirk - acknowledging the joke - and said, "Dismissed." Turning on his heels, Gort headed back out onto the bridge. (Reply any, none) (Posted by Michael Drake) (USS Spectre: Personal Quarters of Pierce Orde - Pierce Orde - 1750) Pierce hummed some old tune to himself as he selected something proper to wear. Usually, he'd stay in uniform until he changed to sleep (and sometimes if the day had been especially long and tiring, not even then), but tonight he felt that would somehow be inappropriate. Placing his eyeglasses onto the dresser, he put on a different pair, a set without any of his modifications -- an 'off-duty' set. As for clothes, he decided on his grey combination: slacks, shirt, and jacket. He finished one last task and then walked down to the Observation Lounge, all the while humming that odd tune. NRPG: Tune is from the song 'Ho-hum, the tune is dumb' from Disney's Snow White RPG: (USS Spectre: Observation Lounge - Pierce Horatio Orde - 1800) He stepped through the doors to the lounge, and walked straight over to the table where Kahlia sat, gazing at the stars. "The Ferengi say 'home is where the heart is, but the stars are made of latinum'. However, I've always felt that my home has been among the stars," he said aloud. (Reply Kahlia, any) (Posted by Lenox) (USS Spectre, Observation Lounge, Kahila Lono, 18:00) Kahila glanced up when she heard Pierce's soft humming. She felt delighted that he also had changed from his uniform. ~It somehow makes the evening more special.~ "The Ferengi say 'home is where the heart is, but the stars are made of latinum'. However, I've always felt that my home has been among the stars," he said aloud. Kahila smiled. "I hadn't heard that saying." Pierce's words brought her into a musing frame of mind. After he was seated at the table, she said, "When I was young I was never sure where my home was. If my father hadn't died before I had a chance to know him, I probably would have turned my thoughts to Starfleet much sooner than I did. He was killed on an away mission, during his first assignment after the Academy. Though after that my mother became a wanderer, she never left Earth. Even so, she lived more varied lifestyles than most people. As I've mentioned before, I was raised by her mother and extended family on their estate on Oahu. They're wonderful people, but they look mostly to the past, to the old Hawaiian traditions. They weren't particularly happy when I turned my own gaze to the stars." Kahila felt embarrassed then and laughed. "I guess all of that was more reply than you expected to hear. But I am beginning to feel this is where I belong." She gestured toward the observation port. (reply Pierce) (posted by Josephine Goodman) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - ACMO Anderson - 20.09) "... are you sleeping well?" DR Cambridge laughed deeply and Rain felt happy that she had made him laugh. "You turned that right back on me pretty quick Rain, I'm impressed. I'm sleeping as well as can be expected. It'll get better over time..." His voice faded and he looked tired and troubled again. "I'll be on surgery watch for a bit of time, I'm going to leave you in main sickbay, does that work for you?" "Sure. I like being bossy." She said, knowing this was only half in jest. "Very well Ms. Anderson. I'll head on back to surgery and get ready in case we get something." "I hope we won't be called to action until tomorrow. I'm going to start sending shifts off to get some sleep. You should do the same." Rain said and her boss nodded. (Reply Cambridge if needed) (Posted by Wendy Keen) (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 21.00) At high warp, the ship had returned quickly to Sector 001, of course it would have taken moments if they used the Subspace Rivers but Remae was still making sure the ship was up to handling herself alone, without help and without incident, the ship dropped out of warp as it entered the Terran System. “Impulse power, take us to Mars. Contact Utopia Planitia and ask them to give us a priority docking profile. Before long, the ship was back where it came from, the Utopia Planitia shipyards and the Spectre attached itself to Starbase Valhalla one of it external docking hatches, usually reserved for ships not staying long-term at the yards. “All hands dismissed.”, he said, as the ship begun powering down, Remae looked down at the Ferengi at OPS, time for his first order. “Lt Gort, it’s very possible we’ll be heading out quickly, possibly tomorrow, please conduct a departmental analysis and make sure everyone has what they want and need. You don’t have a lot of time so beg, borrow or steal from anywhere you can. Kahila, inform all hands, this is their chance to get any personal belongings to their Spectre quarters, also, for the next mission you’ll be resuming your position as ship’s Counsellor as well as First Officer, you have an office to prepare!”, he said, smiling slights. “Pierce, restock the weapons, co-ordinate your efforts with Mr Gort over there, I have a feeling he can get you whatever you need. I’ll go and speak to Admiral Jopek, find out what the return order was all about.”, he said, standing and heading to the turbolift. “OPS.”, he said and by now, the turbolift system would be integrated with Valhalla, allowing him to go anywhere on the station from anywhere on the Spectre. (Starbase Valhalla, Operations, Captain Remae Ktell - 23.00) “Admiral.”, said Remae, walking into the Operations Centre for Utopia Planitia. Jopek was on duty as usual, in one of the station seats, monitoring station operations. Remae was quickly debriefed by the Admiral but there wasn’t much to tell, for some reason, the Admiral wasn’t saying why they had been recalled, perhaps he didn’t know or wasn’t say, but before Remae knew it, the meeting was over and he was heading down to the café area, looking for some late dinner. (Reply from All) (Posted by Anthony Keen) Mission: The Prisoners Dilemma, Day 1 Stardate: 2406.03.09 (Starbase Valhalla, Jopek's Ready Room, Admiral Jopek - 09.00) "Come.", said the Vulcan upon hearing the Ready Room enunciator. "Sir, Admiral LoDona orders your presence on board his ship within the hour." Jopek quickly scanned the PADD he had just been given. "No open communication of this meeting is to be presented, Sir." The Vulcan nodded and the aide was gone as quickly as he had arrived. Admiral Jopek didn't waste anytime, he was out and heading to the SQNCO's ship quickly. (USS Spectre, Ready Room, Captain Remae Ktell - 09.35) "Captain Remae Ktell." Remae looked up at the new arrival, the Bajoran recognised one Captain Jahnoa who was closely attached to Admiral LoDona, the Squadron Commanding Officer. "Captain?", he said, looking up from his desk, knowing this wasn't a social call. "You are hereby ordered to the USS Dragonslayer to meet with Admiral LoDona.", he said, adding. "These are your instructions." He grinned slightly, "Generally, come alone, and don't use an open channel to discuss that you are leaving." The Bajoran cocked his headed slightly at the unusual situation, but all he said to Captain Johnoa was, "Very well, thank you Captain, I'll beam over shortly." Seconds later Remae was outside on the Bridge looking around at the Senior Officers and then back at the PADD. "Kahila, the Bridge is your, I have a meeting to attend to with the Squadron Commanding Officer and one other thing, no electronic communication about my departure or record is to be kept, not until I have an idea what is going on, understood. I'll be back shortly.", he said, heading back to the turbolift. (USS Spectre, Transporter Room 2, Captain Remae Ktell - 09.45) "Chief, dismissed, I'll handle the controls.", he said to the Transporter Chief on duty. Although unusual again, he left without comment. Remae set the controls to beam him over to the Dragonslayer and then programmed the console to wipe its logs of the event just in case; Remae wasn't going to take chances. (USS Dragonslayer, Transporter Room, Captain Remae Ktell - 09.55) The CO of the Spectre beamed over to LoDona's ship and once materialised, he was escorted without much comment directly to the Admirals Quarters, which itself was strange. (USS Dragonslayer, Admiral's Quarters, Captain Remae Ktell - 09.59) Once inside, Remae presented himself to the Admiral, although he could hardly believe it, after crashing two ships, being court marshalled and basically put in dark place for a year, here he was, in front of one of the Senior Officers of Starfleet. "Captain Remae Ktell.", he said, relaxed and not the demur of a new Ensign reporting to his CO. Seconds later, the door opened again and in walked Admiral Jopek who simply nodded at the Bajoran and then at the Squadron CO. ~ What's going on here? ~ All eyes fell on the Squadron CO, what the hell was going, why was the Spectre back and what was, one of the more disgraced COs of the fleet doing here?
