She felt an unexpected sense of relief and expansion; only realizing then that the constant view of swirling blue had given her an uncomfortable sensation of being closed-in. A few moments later, the Captain said: "Lt Lono, I think its time for that conference, please assemble all Senior Officers into the Observation Lounge.", he said standing once more to head there himself. "Yes, Sir," she replied. Kahila keyed in the announcement, then input the names of those to receive it. When the replacement Bridge crew arrived, she made her way to the Observation Lounge. (USS Spectre, Observation Lounge, kahila Lono, 6:55) Kahila and Pierce walked through the door at nearly the same time. Exchanging a glance and a smile, they went to one of the tables nearest the front, and sat down. Kahila then made a quick trip to the replicator for coffee, returning just as the Captain entered the room. She listened as the Captain began the briefing, then walked to the wall screen. A moment later, images of the Xenolithe appeared on the screen, and the Captain gave them information on the species then the details of the mission. Kahila couldn't stop a shudder that chilled through her. ~This is much worse than anything I'd anticipated!~ She took a quick sip of hot coffee. ~I have a feeling the counseling office will soon be busier than ever.~ After the Captain brought up the map of the Netural Zone, he gave the Officers the rest of the available information. Then he said: "Hand Phasers are to be given to all personnel; we'll be remaining at Yellow Alert until further notice. Mr Longfellow, bring the warp drive online, Pierce, I want continuous diagnostics on the weapons array, Sickbay is to be on permeant alert from now on. Full long range scans are to be completed continuously as well.", he said sanding once more. "Helm, set course for Sector 12512, dismissed." Kahila stood, feeling a bit dazed. ~I haven't kept up with weapons practice as I should have. I'll arrange my time to inlcude some holodeck practice.~ She left the lounge then, noticing as she did so that one of Pierce's Security Officers stopped him to speak. She made her way quickly to the turbolift and back to the Bridge. (reply any) posted by Josephine Goodman (Red Claw - Bridge - Commander Talath - 0635) "Commander, Sensors have a single Federation Starship approaching the boarder of the Neutral Zone, their signal broadcast confirm it as the USS Spectre, the ship dispatched by Starfleet for the Federation portion of our mission." The Romulan captain said nothing for several long moments; "Disengage cloaking device, and move us at warp one across our boarder. Battle Alert, shields down." He grumbled angrily, "No reason to spook them with anything faster, or with shields. They hate that." He looked over to his Stellar Navigational Officer. "Time to rendezvous point at warp one?" "Nine hours, ten minutes, Sir." Barely half a second had passed before the officer answered, meaning she was either exceptionally good at mathematics, or had already anticipated the question and figured the answer. If it was anticipation, it was a mark for an excellent officer, someone worth promoting. Talath would have to watch her carefully. The First Officer, a Sub-commander who was standing just behind Talath's seat as per directives, stepped forward; "Once the Federation ship crosses, I would assume it prudent to increase speed, it means they are at least serious about meeting us at said neutral point and the speed of our arrival would be of no consequence." The Romulan CO shrugged. "Increase speed to warp five once they cross into the neutral zone," he looked up and over at his second in command. "But let them contact us first, lets see if they wait until we reach the meeting point." He looked back at the screen, "It will give me some measure of this Federation Captain." The Sub-Commander turned and started repeating the orders to the crew, a measure long-since adopted by the Empire in order to check the absolute power of the Captains. Every major order he gave, unless in a combat situation, would be confirmed and repeated by the First Officer. There was sense in it, perhaps, but it was annoying at times. He leaned back in his command chair and continued to watch the stars scroll slowly across his screen. (reply: any) (posted by Trout) (USS Spectre, Observation Lounge, CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 07.00) The Senior Crew had assembled quickly; a nod of appreciation went to the First Officer as everyone began to settle down, either sitting or getting coffee, talking to each other. Remae was ready to begin the brief, such as it was. "Thanks for coming everyone, despite the long hours you have been putting in recently. I am liberty now, to explain our orders and what we need to do to accomplish them.", he said, standing once more and walking over to the large computer screen on the wall. "A hostile alien species known as the Xenolithe made quite impressive inroads into Federation Space a few years ago, and more recently, the formation of Freedom Squadron inside Sector 221-G caused even more confrontations with this race, that had only one thought on its mind, kill everything and everyone.", he said, bringing up a picture of the species onto the viewscreen. NRPG: I used to have a picture of them but I managed to lose it over the yeas, but if you think of them as the aliens from Alien, you'll be close to the mark. RPG: "Resilient, cunning, thoughtful and very hard to kill, it took an all out assault to drive them away from Starbase 23, even after they captured an Admiral, we managed to get her back but she was never the same afterwards. Other encounters are available to you, I suggest you study them.", Remae cleared the picture of the Xenolithe and continued with a map of the Neutral Zone. "Starfleet Command recently received reports from the Romulan Tal Shia, indicating that the Xenolithe are preparing new bases deep within the Neutral Zone, from our perspective, its close, very close to the Romulan Border of the zone." The map zoomed in on the new area the Captain was talking about. "This is the sector marked out as containing these new bases. The entire area is awash with Ion Storms, Plasma is everywhere not to mention other hazards. Long range analysis of the sector proved inconclusive." "Although Starfleet put together a plan to investigate on our own, cloaking technology will not work in this sector of space, so, on this matter the Romulans were contacted and a deal worked out, a temporally alliance for two ships, one Federation and one Romulan would contact a combined search in this sector." Remae headed back to his seat. "If this is a trap by the Romulan Tal Shia to draw the Federation in we will be in venerable position, but if the Xenolithe bases are there, we have orders to find out their strength and numbers and then return to Federation Space to assist in the planning of a Task Force to eliminate this threat.", he said before thoughtfully adding, "The relations between the Romulans and the Federation aren't good to say the least, any wrong move by us when dealing with them could lead us to war and the worse case scenario is to be at war with the Romulans and still have the Xenolithe bases to deal with." The Bajoran was about to conclude his briefing. "Hand Phasers are to be given to all personnel; we'll be remaining at Yellow Alert until further notice. Mr Longfellow, bring the warp drive online, Pierce, I want continuous diagnostics on the weapons array, Sickbay is to be on permeant alert from now on. Full long range scans are to be completed continuously as well.", he said sanding once more. "Helm, set course for Sector 12512, dismissed." (USS Spectre, Bridge, CO, Captain Remae Ktell - 07.30) Exiting the OL, Remae noted to himself that he had not allowed any discussion or questions to be asked or anything else from the assembled crew. Not that he could answer any questions; he had just given the crew all the information he had. Sitting down again, the ship went to warp, accelerating to its top cruising speed. << Warning, the USS Spectre had crossed the Neutral Zone >> "Computer, discontinue all Neutral Zone warnings until further notice.", he said, looking up as he said so. (Reply from ALL, Romulans) (Posted by Anthony Keen) --------------- Freedom Squadron, a Star Trek email adventure www.freedom-squadron.com CO, Utopia Planitia, Admiral Jopek CO, USS Spectre, Captain Remae Ktell (USS Spectre, Observation Lounge, Ensign(jg) Hank Longfellow - 07.00) Hank sat down at the table with a teacup of jumja tea in his hands. A quick ice cold shower had helped but he still felt the call of sleep and the lure of dreams. Holding the cup in both hands to warm his skin he sipped now and then as he glanced around and blinked away the feeling of cobwebs over his eyes. Longfellow listened silently to the Captain's speech on the Xenolithe and shifting a hand down to his slide he slipped out a PADD and started to take notes in between sips of his drink. He frowned slightly at the image of the new aliens, a frown that only deepened as he found out where they were going. ~Hostile alien forces, Neutral Zone, Romulans potentially unhappy with us and it's in an area that most normal ships would avoid anyway,~ Hank thought with a slight shake of his head before finishing off his tea. "Hand Phasers are to be given to all personnel; we'll be remaining at Yellow Alert until further notice. Mr. Longfellow, bring the warp drive online, Pierce, I want continuous diagnostics on the weapons array, Sickbay is to be on permanent alert from now on. Full long range scans are to be completed continuously as well.", the Captain said before he stood up once more. Nodding quietly, Hank slipped the PADD with his notes under one arm as he hoped that he wouldn't have to have a phaser but held no doubt that it would be required anyway. "Helm, set course for Sector 12512, dismissed." Standing up with most of the others Hank slowly moved over to the replicators and recycled his cup before moving out and towards the Turbolift. =^=Longfellow to Main Engineering,=^= he said as he tapped his badge and entered the lift. =^=Engineering here, how can we help you, =^= came the reply. =^=Bring the warp drive online and maintain it for minute to minute usage of the warp drive and full systems,=^= Hank said as he waited for the Turbolift to stop before he ran out and towards the area of Main Engineering. =^=Acknowledged, will you be coming down to Engineering soon, =^= the crewman asked even as the doors hissed open. "Yes, I will," Hank said as he ran in and moved over to the large display board. His eyes took in the systems as they functioned and the data coming in on the routine diagnostics that were done to maintain the normal working of the systems. "I think they'll want power in a few minutes, but I want it ready for them now," Hank stated firmly as he turned and jogged over to the duty officer's desk and checked the warp drive monitoring systems. (reply any ) (Posted by Mark) (USS Spectre, Observation Lounge, Ensign(jg) Saurik Rak'han - 07.00) Saurik's hands ran over the PADD in his hands as he jotted down notes as the Captin spoke, building himself a map of all the factors involved and how they interacted, or were likley to interact. He studied the image of the Xenoliths and made a note to get their physiological data from the computer banks. As the briefing ended he stood with the others and headed out of the observation lounge. He headed over to Pierce and coughed, "S'cuse me sir, do you want me to see to the issuing of sidearms and draw up a brief tactical skeleton whilst you are on the weapons diagnostics?" (reply Pierce) (Posted by Owen) _________________________________________________________________ (USS Spectre: Observation Lounge - Pierce Orde - 0725) "S'cuse me sir, do you want me to see to the issuing of sidearms and draw up a brief tactical skeleton whilst you are on the weapons diagnostics?" "Aye, laddie. However, run some simulations on alternative weapon choices. I'd like to see how the Xenolithe respond t' old-fashioned projectile weapons. Fifty-caliber tritanium projectiles. Bring the skeleton t' me when ye are done, and I'll make any tweaks I see." (Reply Saurik) (Posted by Lenox) (USS Spectre: Observation Lounge - Pierce Orde - 0755) Pierce Orde strode onto the bridge and up to Kahlia.
