Soval moved behind one of the rooms terminals as he modified his phaser to emit a carefully calibrated pulse which would hypothetically disrupt a holographic signature. Suddenly the captain was thrown against a wall, a weapon blast had caught him on the shoulder throwing him backwards. Soval began to move towards he captains position however Pierce was closer and successfully removed the captain from the open. Assured that the captain was presently removed from danger Soval fired upon the closed photonic construct, closely monitoring the effects of the impact on his tricorder and modifying the beam accordingly. His eyebrow rose as he began perplexed by the abnormal readings, it appeared that the phaser was disrupting the holographic signature for a few moments then the construct appeared to alter so that the beam had no effect. "Engineering, shut down the computer core and disable to auxiliaries from activating. now!" Power dimmed across the room as the computer went offline and although emergency systems kicked in, they were localised in nature and access to the database was severed. ~Fascinating~ It seemed that with the drones unable to achieve their objective they removed themselves from the Spectre, although it was impossible to determine accurately what had occurred. "I'm alright, it just a scratch. report?" “I am unharmed captain, although I doubt the situation would remain thus if not for your timely intervention.” "They could be back if they can find another way to access our computer, in the meantime, we'll have to run the ship without the main computer. Pierce, station security around major computer areas, there is a chance they will try again. Soval, head to Engineering and see what needs to be done to get the Spectre off the ground. I'll be in Sickbay." “Sir” (reply any, none) (posted by John Morrison) (unknown place of captivity, Kahila Lono, 18:40) Kahila was following the action aboard the Spectre, through her link with Pierce, as Ensign Octan said: "Are the drones still able to access the database, even if the database is without power?," Octan queried. "That shouldn't be possible at all!" Kahila smiled. "They solved the problem by taking the main computer offline. Then the holographic drones blinked out and away. Of course, now they have the problem of preparing the ship to launch without the use of the computer. And photonic disruptors didn't seem to affect the drones. So if they come back, so far there's no defense against them." She looked around, and gestured. "I'm sure those drones must have come from here -- wherever here is. Someone seems determined to find out everything about us that they can; so they've put some of us through mental scans and tests. Now they've tried accessing the computer." "Ensign, do your instruments give any information about our surroundings? Are we on the surface of the planet?" reply Octan, Pierce posted by Josephine Goodman (unknown place of captivity, CSO, Ensign Octan, 18:50) Kahila looked around, and gestured. "I'm sure those drones must have come from here -- wherever here is. Someone seems determined to find out everything about us that they can; so they've put some of us through mental scans and tests. Now they've tried accessing the computer." "Ensign, do your instruments give any information about our surroundings? Are we on the surface of the planet?" Octan looked at his enhanced tricorder. Apart from the signal it was still sending, it didn't register any information. ~That's weird,~ he thought, as he tried to comply with Kahila's request by scanning their surroundings. Finally, he looked up at her. "The forcefields are jamming any scans. I can't get any information from further away than our current 'cell'. I just hope the signal is getting through to the Spectre, before any of those drones show up here again." Suddenly, a projectile dome appeared in the room, as if the Bajoran's words were somehow prophetic. Octan groaned from frustration as a dart hit him, teleporting him and the tricorder he was furiously holding on to away from his shipmates. (unknown place of captivity, CSO, Ensign Octan, 19:30) Octan glanced around him sleepily. He was alone. This time he wasn't just teleported, but the dart must've contained some sort of sedative. The tricorder that he still clutched confirmed that almost an hour had passed. Getting to his feet, he started towards the nearest 'wall', trying to repeat his earlier actions to find his shipmates again. A second later, an aching nose and forehead confirmed that the wall was solid. Undeterred he tried the other three, but this time, the result was the same. It seems as if the aliens learnt from their mistakes. The forcefields had been strengthened. Resigned to his fate, Octan sat down against one of the walls, hoping against hope that the tricorder signal had in fact reached the Spectre and that help was on it's way. NRPG: What follows will reveal a lot about Octan's past - things he doesn't even remember due to his insomnia. So, even though all of you will know about it, your characters will NOT. So, you cannot use any of this information in any of your posts. RPG: (Cardassian Warbird, CSO, Ensign Octan, 20:30) Octan looked up, startled by the noise of a door opening. "Time for training," a familiar voice said. He stood up, used to obeying her commands and headed for the light shining through the door. He was tired, but he wasn't going to complain. It never did any good anyway. He just wished he knew what they were training for. It had been years, out in space, every day spent training, preparing, but for what? It was ironic that all this was happening aboard a Cardassian ship and his mentors never let him forget that. The Cardassians are the enemy and always will be. The peace treaty won't last and the Maquis had to be ready - even if that makes them seem like enemies to the Federation. And they will use all tools at their disposal, including this Cardassian ship and even Starfleet. There had been hints. He was being prepared for a special mission - to infiltrate Starfleet until the time was ready for him to act. They needed someone inside Starfleet, and it would be him, since she could never go back. Too much had happened. They had even nearly sent him to the Academy a couple of months back, but a Starfleet patrol had veered off course due to a freak black hole materialising in their original patrol path and had nearly discovered them, forcing them to go further into space and delaying their plans. He reached the door and stepped through as it swished close. The Bajoran woman waiting for him merely gestured for him to follow and led the way. She didn't need to. He knew it well by now. In fact, he knew the whole ship and everything about it. They had deemed it important that he could fly, and fix, almost every class of ship out there. As he followed her, he couldn't help but admire the way she moved - lithe, almost catlike. He knew she could be lethal - he had many bruises to prove that, but she was fair and honest and believed passionately in her cause. She had told him enough that he knew she used to be a Starfleet Captain - one of the best - but her heart always lay with her people, the Bajorans, and she wouldn't rest until they were truly free. She had left Starfleet under controversial circumstances, feeling that they were just using her and she was not going to accomplish what she set out to do. After a while, she realised it had been a mistake - they needed someone inside and, since she couldn't go back, Octan was nominated. His thoughts were interrupted as they reached the training room. "What will it be today?" he asked as the woman turned around to face him. "Whatever you want, Octan," she replied. "I can teach you little more. In fact, if it wasn't for that Starfleet patrol, you'd probably be on the Spectre already." He didn't know why, but she kept insisting that, when he joined Starfleet, he be posted to the USS Spectre. As usual, she wouldn't reveal all to him, but he trusted her and knew that she must have a good reason. "Why don't we just talk? Tell me more about Bajor. Tell me more about myself." She smiled at him. He reminded her so much of herself at a younger age. Eager to learn, passionate about Bajor, yet so curious and ready to assert himself. "Okay," she agreed, "where shall we begin?" "At the beginning," Octan replied. "Where was I born?" She smiled again. She would tell him this time, but not the whole truth. There were things he could never know - things that would only make it harder. ~Sometimes I really wish I could tell him,~ Ro Kaelyn thought, as she looked at her son. (Reply from Any, None) (Posted by Arnaud Malherbe) <> (USS Spectre, Main Engineering, Agent Soval - 19.00) Soval entered main engineering and made his way to the primary consol to access records of the recent events. He had comprehended the captains orders however had concluded that they were not logical given the circumstances as ‘Dr’ Peabody would be able to resolve their predicament without Sovals assistance and therefore he would be more effective in solving another problem. Why? Once the reasoning behind the actions was understood it would be possible to prevent further incursions. He created a unidirectional link to one of the secondary engineering cores, before isolating specific sensor data from the recent engagements. Once the probability of the drones attacking to gain such limited access was sufficiently low Soval re-initiated the pertinent isolinear rods and utilised approximately one hour analysing the various sensor recordings. (USS Spectre, Bridge - 20.08) As he exited the turbolift he glanced around the bridge looking for the Captain however when he was unable to locate him he moved towards the ships science station considering the dependence placed upon the computer for most simple tasks. The modifications required little time to complete although he would be unable to investigate their effectiveness until the main computer was brought online so that the sensor data could be analysed, however in theory they would now be able to determine the location of their assailants. Unpredictably the various terminals around the bridge flickered into activation and the lights were restored to their normal illumination, Soval stood up and moved towards the centre of the bridge although he deliberately avoided taking the Captains chair. “Report”, Soval watched the hesitation on the officers’ face as he apparently considered whether to reply to the agents command. “Unknown … sir, the computer has come online although I don’t think it was authorised.” The Vulcan noted the reluctance in the officers posture however remained as impassive as ever. “Soval to Captain Remae.” (reply Remae) Soval turned to face the officer stationed at Ops when the comm channel was cut raising an eyebrow briefly curious as to what had occurred. “Sir the ship has been enveloped in a gravimetric distortion, it is pulling us from the planets surface and has disrupted communications to personnel outside the ship.” “Engineering Can we beam those outside the ship back onboard?” “Aye sir, but it’ll require a lot of power and we’ll have to boost the signals through the main deflector. We’ll loose half the relays on the ship and there’s no guarantee the signal pattern will hold for all of them.” Soval paused considering the most logical course of action; the trapped crew were in all probability safe for the time being on the planet while the attempt to rescue them would severely compromise ship systems and they may loose several crewmembers. Logic dictated only one course of action. “Ops prepare emergency supplies for immediate transport to the surface; sufficient for a minimum of one month in a class H environment, and transport when ready. Science analyse the distortion and determine …”, “Sir with all due respect half the remaining crew is outside the ship!”, Soval turned to face the officer who had interrupted him, noting that it was the one who had earlier hesitated, as well as the sympathetic reaction of the others on the bridge towards the individual. “To attempt to rescue them at this stage would be illogical.” “Damn logic! And damn you! You’ve been waiting for a chance to get rid of the captain since you got here!” Soval rose from his seat cautious to retain the appearance of non-hostility. He could most probably disable the emotional officer and indeed any who attempted to assist him, however that would be unlikely to be of substantial benefit. Instead he attempted to dissolve the situation as the officer moved towards the Ops consol. “Your statement is incorrect, there is no logical reason for me to harm the Captain, however if you attempt to transport you may execute those currently on the surface.” He paused momentarily considering his options, logic did not appear to be successful therefore he eventually decided an attempt at humour may diffuse the situation, “Lt my decision was based upon consideration of whether Dr Peabody would be rendered more greatly annoyed by remaining upon the planet or returning to a severely damaged ship. As you can see there is only one acceptable course of action.” Soval continued to move towards the officer however it was obvious that he had not had the required effect. ~Humour such an illogical concept.~ “We’ll see!” Soval flipped over the intervening consol landing to the side of the officer where a nerve pinch was sufficient to render him unconscious however he was too late and the transporter sequence was in progress. The conduit behind the ops terminal ruptured propelling Soval against the forward consol where an ensuing crack indicated at least his arm was broken. As green blood ran down the side of his face he began to lapse into unconsciousness. The last thing he saw was several transporter beams appearing before the main viewscreen which displayed the dimensional anomaly growing larger as the ship neared its probable destination. (reply Remae, any) (posted by John Morrison) (USS Spectre, Sickbay, CO, Captain Remae - 19.15) Remae was having his injuries healed in Sickbay and although his uniform still showed the scorch mark of the alien weapon. "Doctor, I want you to run a full analysis of that weapons signature, tell me anything you can about it, these probes that attacked us show holographic properties, we maybe able to devise a defence against them." (Reply from Torelle) "Thanks Doc.", said the Bajoran, moving his arm well now after the treatment. He was still wearing his sidearm but before heading to Engineering, he headed for his quarters for a fresh uniform. (USS Spectre, Personal Quarters, CO, Captain Remae - 19.30) Remae had already changed into a new uniform. The star was setting and dusk was settling in, for a moment, he wondered how the crew was doing wherever they were. (USS Spectre, Engineering, CO, Captain Remae - 19.45) The CO walked into Engineering, looking for Peabody. He was eager for an update on the preparations to get the ships launched. Unfortunately, Remae couldn't locate the acting CEO. (Outside the USS Spectre, CO, Captain Remae - 20.00) Engineering teams were outside the ship, shoring up the hull in preparation for departure and upon exiting the hatch and donning his survival suit, Remae headed over to join the teams. Some were busy cutting holes in the rock and others were constructing a support frame around the ship. It looked like a primitive launching ramp. Although this planet wasn't class M, Remae had no problem walking around, the gravity was a little heavy for him but he managed to get to the Engineering teams and ask for an update report. (Reply from Torelle, Anyone?) (Posted by Anthony Keen) (USS Spectre - Sickbay - CMO, Ensign(jg) Ariana Torelle - 19.16) Ariana took another look at the Captains shoulder. It wasn't really that bad, and the burns would likely go away over time, or could be lifted with a demeral regenerator used daily. It was soemthing Ariana considered talking to the Captain about at a later date. "Doctor, I want you to run a full analysis of that weapons signature, tell me anything you can about it, these probes that attacked us show holographic properties, we maybe able to devise a defence against them." Inquired the captain. "From these readings my first instinct would be to say its some sort of plasma based weaponary, but that isn't consistant with the level of damage to the epidermous. A shot from a Plasma weapon should have left more residual damage. I'll have a look into it sir, I have a few avenues to look into" Ariana quickley ran the dermal regenerator over the wound and was saw the skin start to clear up, it would take in the long run and the Captain should be ok. "I want to schedule a few more treatments on your wound, but you should be fine now." Ariana watched the Captain flex out his arm a few times. "Thanks Doc." The captain said as he stood up and left Sickbay. (USS Spectre - Sickbay - ACMO, Ensign(jg) Ariana Torelle - 20.05) "Well isn't that quaint!" Murmured Ariana as she looked into the microscope. Spectral analysis of the alien weapon had come up with some highly confusing results. The scans that Torelle had gained from the wound on Captain Remae hadn't conformed to normal parameters for energy based weaponry, and the damaged that had been left on the Captain also didn't seem right. On something as simple as a stun setting, most weapons wouldn't mark the victim, even Romulan disruptors no longer marked the target until well up the stun range. On a whime Ariana decided to check a small skin sample picked up by the regenerator under the microscope. "Doctor, have you found something" Nurse Hitachi inquired. Torelle looked at the small oriental lady and smiled. "I think so. In fact I know so. The aliens use an organic weapon technology. It appears the weapons fire bacteria at the target, the burn marks are a residue left behind when the bateria touches the epidermus. The bacteria are energized as they are fired from the weapon, the more energy they are supplied the more damage they do to the victims systems. I assume a fully energies shot will simple shut down the victims nervous system and kill them like some sort of toxin. It all points towards the need to keep the bodies of the targets intact, unlike our weapons which obvious leave a lot of damage at higher settings" Ariana smiled deeply as she told the nurse. "Sounds unpleasant... why are you smiling though?" "You'll understand in a second, deary" ~ick, Torelle your not this ladies mother stop creeping in and calling her deary~ Ariana tapped on her comm badge "Sickbay to the Captain" (reply Remea) "Sir, I've had a look at the data on your wound. The weapon uses an organic mechanism to attack with. In fact the attack is bacteria. I don't think there will be any further effects to yourself, the reason I'm contacting you, is that if we can get our hands on one of the weapons then I'm pretty sure I can create an immunization. I don't know if it will stop it hurting all together, but it will at least stop people being killed" (reply Remea) "Aye sir, Sickbay out" (reply Remea) (posted by Matthew Hackett) (USS Spectre, Sickbay, CO, Captain Remae - 19.20) "From these readings my first instinct would be to say its some sort of plasma based weaponry, but that isn't consistent with the level of damage to the epidermis. Keep at it and get your findings to Lt Orde as soon as you can.", said Remae hopping down from the biobed as the treatment to his arm was concluded. He looked over at the other members of the ship including the Acting Chief Engineer. The Spectre was lifting off, but in such a way that there was no sign of power, no noise, no engine activity, nothing. "Chief, your tricorder!", said Remae grabbing the device even though his suit was clumsy, Remae had trained for hours inside these environmental suits. He ran some scans on the Spectre; an energy field was forming around the ship. "Everyone, take cover!", said the CO, a great deal of the crew were down on the planet and if the Spectre was going to do something, like explode, the least they could do is take shelter. The crew headed for nearby outcropping and they hit the deck, Remae was no exception, the Spectre vanished in a flash of bright light, just before it did, several containers materialised, it looked like someone had beamed down half the contents of the ship's cargo bays. (Where? When? - Remae Ktell) Remae was lying down on a bed with no sign of any EV suit, which was strange because he last remembered hiding behind some large rocks while watching the Spectre vanish on a Class H planet. Now, he was in a room, from what he could see, it looked like his old stomping grounds while he was at the Academy. He jumped up and looked out the window, the sun was setting and the traffic flying past the windows seemed normal enough, for Earth. ~ Earth? What the hell am I doing here? ~ "Computer, what is the time. and the date, in fact, where am I?" << Please ask a single question >> "What is the date?", he said, rather more loudly than was required. << Stardate 2406.05.10, the time is 20.30 >> "The time and date are correct, but." Remae sat down, wherever he was; he wasn't on the Spectre or on that Class H planet anymore.
