Dahlia gave him a smile and replied, "Thank you so much Thomas." Before she could say any more to him, however Bazon jumped into the conversation. I am also pleased to see you are in good health master Jackson," Bazon added. "You look as if you have gained some muscle and finally lost all that baby fat you had as a child." Tom flushed a tad despite himself and said "Thanks old friend. Fleet Service seems to agree with me. You are also well. I trust you are taking care of Pez for me?" "Of course." The Big Orion replied, "I have sworn my life to protect him. As long as I live, he will be safe. You only need worry if you should find I am dead and gone, Master Jackson." Eventually Pez came to claim his prodigal step-son and the two retired over to the more comfortable portion of the room. The elder Ferengi smiled when his step-son declined his offer to see him make a Starfleet command much sooner. It was a rare trait that Pez had come to appreciate, a lack of greed in others always made things so much easier for him. "She's very pretty isn't she, Tom?" He asked, "And smart too. You could do a lot worse than her. I could make a contractual arrangement if you'd like? She could give you oomlots." Jackson flushed red again and replied "I'll take you up on that Pez." Pez smiled and laughed. "Dahlia, the contracts." he called, and watched as the lovely woman left the room. "I assure you, she's very fit, quite intelligent and unsoiled. And in addition, she is at the peak of her breeding age for human women. I am told that she's likely to have superior children. At twenty-two, she's a perfect match for you Thomas." Pez added with another quick smile and a laugh. "And at least this way your mother won't worry about grandchildren." he added as Dahlia stepped back into the compartment. The slender dark-haired woman brought the contract over to the small table along with an electronic DNA pen and placed the massive sixty-page document between step-father and step-son. Pez took the pen and handed it to Tom. Dahlia looked happy and excited all at the same time. She should, after all, the moment that Tom signed the papers, Pez would be fulfilling part of her contract of service. "Here you go, son. Just sign on the back page with the DNA pen and she's all yours." Pez said, then he gave Jackson a wink. "You couldn't have made a better selection for a wife than Dahlia." (Reply Jackson) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante Docked Starbase 989- Luxury Quarters, Lt tom Jackson 2O/COPS Day 2, 1245) Tom Jackson chatted with some old friends before greeting his step-dad. He still, after all these years, didn't really understand why his mom loved this man but she did. Pez caught Tom looking at Dahlia. Tom saw him grin widely. This usually meant he was up to something. "She's very pretty isn't she, Tom?" He asked, "And smart too. You could do a lot worse than her. I could make a contractual arrangement if you'd like? She could give you oomlots." Jackson flushed red again and replied "I'll take you up on that Pez." Jackson had always had a crush on her. Pez smiled and laughed. "I have to admit she is that Pez" Tom answered. Pez went on "And at least this way your mother won't worry about grandchildren." he added as Dahlia stepped back into the compartment. Jackson accepted the lengthy contract and scanned it. He always found it prudent to check a Ferengi contract out even if it were between family members. From his time on the Ferengi trade vessel he knew a lot about these type contracts. "Pez, before I sign I want to ask Dahlia a question if I may?" Jackson (reply Pez) NRPG: I assume Pez agrees here RPG: Turning toward the lovely woman Tom took in her beauty again. She always melted his heart. "Dahlia, I meant what I said to Pez, I would like you to be with me. However, it has to be of your own free will. I've always cared fior you - I think you've know that. I will take the best care of you I can. But I want you as an equal not a servant - do you understand" he asked her. She shrugged again before adding, "But seeing an old friend really makes you feel alive." She gave him her best smile as the wine was brought and she picked up her glace and took a sip. "But I'm really surprised that you joined the fleet. I mean I never pictured you on a starship, running around the Galaxy, bedding exotic alien girls and exploring alien ruins and fighting Klingons or whatever. You never seemed that type to me. Daina nodded and rose from the bar to follow Sam to the table that he was being directed towards. In the typical fashion, he seated himself forcing Daina to do likewise. "No luck with the fleeter?" he asked sarcastically. "Seems that way doesn't it?" Daina replied with the same degree of sarcasm. "you know you're behind on your payments Daina?" he said more a statement than a question. "You know what happens if you fall too far behind, don't you?" Daina's face turned into a scowl. "Don't even think about it." she bit off quietly. "We can work off that debt honey. All you have to do is take care of Jack for a while, you know." (reply Lopez) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene - CMO, Ens Kimiko Ichijo Day 2- 1627) Kimiko arrived at the base CO’s cabin; there were a number of officers there already. Kimiko sighed at the traffic. ~oh well, nothing to do about that~ The doctor stood slightly inside of the doorway and examined the scene. Other than glass shards and of course a body and related fluids, there was not anything to show much violence. Kimiko sniffed the air; there was an underlying odor in the air, beneath the normal odors that occupy the dead. ~Oh, yes the distinct order of alcohol~ It was no surprise. Alcohol plays a part in about 35 percent of all homicides, but the amount of collateral damage would suggest that it was not a crime of passion. The doctor walked a circuit of the room, in a slowly spiraling path. There was something in the blood. Despite the size of the puddle, it was obvious that the man died quickly, very likely before he hit the ground, there was not enough blood loss to indicate that he bled out. However it was something else. Kimiko pulled out her tricorder and scanned the body and the field around it. There were no residual splatters that would indicate a use of a slicing or piercing weapon. In fact there was no blood outside of the primary injury, including any expiratory blood, though there was blood on and by his mouth. -Curiouser and curiouser~ Kimiko thought as she kneeled over the body. One of the very interesting things is the position of the body. It hasn’t been positioned, yet the natural inclination is to fold around the injury, or as well as one could with the blow so high. But it was if he just dropped backwards, which would be the natural behavior of an unprotected fall. Kimiko reached into her bag, pulled out gloves, and put them on. She carefully lifted his hands to examine them. ~no defensive wounds, though bruising can take a while to appear~ she observed as she wrapped film around his hands. ~not likely to find any scrapings, but it will probably prove interesting to find out where the Captain’s hands have been~ Kimiko angled the arm above the victim’s head and tilted his body up and observed a large teardrop pattern on his uniform and well as the secondary flow pattern that formed the pool. She gently lowered the body and stood up removing the gloves. She looked around and noticed the captain. “Captain” she nodded in greeting. (Reply Salid) “I am expecting Dr Lopez momentarily; he is going to do the post-mortem examination, so I would like him to see the scene” (Reply Salid) “Not much to tell at this point, I would rather not make any guesses until after the post. “ (Reply Salid) “Unless the damage is more extensive or something else appears in the post” Kimiko looked up “probably about two, two and a half hours for the examinations, two more hours for all relevant tests and one for the initial report. "The stations commander has been murdered, it has fallen to us to investigate." Ben replied. "What would you like us to do?" "First Iwant you to examine the door. Ensign Dunphy stated he had to break into the room by overriding the locking mechanism. I'd you to verify that is what occurred." Ben explained. I don't like the idea of someone who murdered a Starfleet officer going free. I need to be able to move quickly in order to make certain they are arrested. We can only keep the station locked down for a short period of time." "Yes, sir" Kimiko replied (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene - ACEO Ensign Eian O'Neill - Day 2 - 1650) A few minutes after listening to conversations between the investigating officers, Eian thought he had a pretty good start for a profile and that if he could have information from the medical staff and from the investigators, he would be able to build a full profile. ~It can't hurt,~ he thought, and approached Ben. "Sir, I couldn't help but overhearing part of everyone's conversations regarding the murder, and as I mentioned to you yesterday while we were sparring, I am a trained profiler. I was wondering if I could have access to the investigative files, so that I could build a full profile. It might help you catch the murderer, Sir." (reply Soma) "Well, considering that I've got to finish up with the door and there's still a test in Engineering that needs my supervision, I think I could have it done by around 2000." If given the right information, Eian could build a profile on a suspect in an hour, but considering that he couldn't neglect his engineering duties and that he had to, at some point, grab dinner, it was probably going to be about three hours. (reply Soma) "Yes, Sir. Thank you, Sir," Eian replied with a smile. This was his first real investigation. He couldn't help but feel a little excited, but he grounded himself and reminded himself that someone had been murdered, and that the culprit was at large. ~Keep it professional, Eian. You've got to help catch this guy.~ --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene -CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma-1651) Eian came over to stand beside Ben and admitted to over hearing the conversations that had occured throughout the room as he worked at the door. He then asked if it would be possible to have access to the files regarding the investigation so he could build a profile, he had reminded Ben that he was a trained profiler and Ben did recall that comming up in their conversation along with his wanting to transfer to security. "I remember, I've been trying to keep things going smoothly here and that fact had slipped from my memory for a moment." Ben replied. "I see that you have access to the information regarding the investigation so far as well as future information as it comes available." Ben was curious to see just what Eian would be able to come up with considering his AD/HD. "How soon do you think you'd be able to come up with a profile?" Eian assured him that he would have something around 2200, Ben found that he looked forward to the insights Eian might have to offer the investigation. "I look forward to seeing what you come up with." Ben said. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Holodeck 2 - FO - Cmdr T'Larah Sullivan - 1700) T'Larah had the program ready to go. She wore her Vulcan fighting attire, black loose fitting with white Vulcan lettering under the torso fastener on the left side. She was just waiting outside the holodeck for Masters to show up. He did, right on time. He was wearing a Starfleet-issue physical training uniform, "Glad to see you made it." she said. "Wasn't sure what to expect. " he said. "So what exactly are we doing?" he inquired. "Oh, we are going to pick a fight." she said and the double doors of the holodeck opened onto a mesa on the side of a mountain. A storm was brewing on the far side of the mountain range. Enough sun light reflected off of the cloud cover that off in the distance a full spartan phalanx could be seen. Spear points were bristling menacingly out of the spacing between the shields. To the left just inside the holodeck doors a variety of weapons and shields were available. T'Larah picked up a Trillpa and a tritainium baton. Not entirely sure of his melee prowess especially with a weapon. Give him a phaser any day. He picked up a knightly longsword and shield. He reached for the armor and he selected a breast plate, grieves. The program took over and fitted the armor perfectly to Doug. Saving them at least 20 minutes in prep time. "That armor might slow you down if you aren't used to the weight." T'Larah warned as they approached the pair of spartan warriors standing outside of the phalanx in defiance. "The extra weight is much preferable to a spear in my side. While we are on the subject what you are wearing, is it some kind of Vulcan super-armor? 'Cuz if it ain't one hit and those ancient warriors will paint this mountain green with your blood." Doug said. "This is a traditional Vulcan battle attire. It is similar to Terran silk, only thicker." she explained. "The Spartans changing the hue of these rocks by way of my ex-sanguination is a distinct improbability. The safety protocols would not allow it." she responded. "Yeah but if the program reads that the Spartans register a killing blow, you will lose." he shot back. "So I don't get hit." she responded with all seriousness. Now they had approached with in a distance that the Spartans responded. The phalanx broke apart and formed a single column standing at full attention with their spears at order arms. "So you've come back, daughter of Hephaestus. And I see you've brought a mate...?" the larger of the two men chided her. "Daughter of Hephaestus?" Doug asked. "The Greek god of fire. The Roman version of which is Vulcan." T'Larah explained. " I identified myself the last time I ran the program as T'Larah daughter of Vulcan, the Spartans being Greek and not Roman would use the Greek name." "Ah." Doug said. "No not her mate, look at his size, he must be her little brother." the two large men began laughing at Doug. "I think they just called me a runt." Doug said. "I believe you are correct." she said. The sun at that instant peeked over the horizon. Shedding bright yellow light from Sol as it was centuries younger then it was outside the holodeck. "The time has come. We are prepared to accept the challenge." the larger man said. The two Spartans hefted their shields and plucked their spears from the ground. "Doesn't make any damned sense." she muttered to herself, although she was pretty certain that at least the video couldn't in any way be misconstrued as to involve her. Of course, the way that those investigators had been combing all over Joseph's quarters with DNA scans running, they knew that she had frequented or at least had visited there recently. That wasn't going to look good when it came time for them to start their interview cycle. =^=Soma to Chief Ardaa, can you meet me in your office?=^= her commbadge suddenly chirped, half-starling her enough for her to knock the latinum coated perpetual motion paperweight off her desk. She replied with a quick tap of her badge. =^=Thank you Chief.=^= He replied before closing the channel. After a couple of moments, Ardaa did a quick computer search to see exactly where Soma was. It turned out that he was close, but was actually standing outside the assistant chief's office door, not her own. She gave a smile and then rose from her desk, carefully replacing the paperweight, which she sent spinning with a push of her finger and stepped out the door to her office. She then picked up the second one and repeated the process. She refilled her glass before answering. "Okay. I'll help as I can. But I retain my legal rights to abstain from answering questions should it prove necessary." That seemed to be good enough for Soma who immediately launched into his first question. "How would you describe your relationship with Captain Taylor?" Adraa cradled the cold crystal rocks glass in her hand as she swished the amber liquid around inside. The occasional high-pitched clink of ice against the sides of the glass could be heard. "It was complicated." she finally answered. She took a drink. "We were lovers. I.... thought that he loved me, but I was wrong. He was just using me. Like most men, they just want to use you and discard you." She looked up at Soma. "But I didn't even realize it until yesterday. That's when I found out the bastard was sleeping with Doctor Harvey too. Joseph was always a womanizing sonova.... well you get the point." She explained. (reply Soma) "Well I wasn't happy about it lieutenant." she replied, "I mean how would you feel if you found out that someone you loved was cheating on you with a two-bit whore from another department? Did I want to kill him? Was I angry?" She downed the rest of her drink, "You're damned straight I was angry and that I wanted the bastard dead. I may be a lot of things mister Soma, but I am not a murderer." (reply Soma) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989- Security Offices- CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma - 1810) "We were lovers. I.... thought that he loved me, but I was wrong. He was just using me. Like most men, they just want to use you and discard you." Ben considered the statement, she was biased and for good reason. Her assessment of her relationship with Taylor was outside of his area of expertise and he hadn't seen the two together so he couldn't comment on it. He was going to have to accept what she said at face value until he learned more from others. He kept his features neutral as Ardaa looked at him, he didn't express any offense to what was said nor did he indicate he had taken it as an insult. "But I didn't even realize it until yesterday. That's when I found out the bastard was sleeping with Doctor Harvey too. Joseph was always a womanizing sonova.... well you get the point." She explained. "I do." Ben replied thankful she decided to leave the sentence unfinished. Although she may be emotionally compromised he thought it would be unfit for an officer in her position to resort to foul language and name calling during an investigation. Professionalism had to be maintained. "Well I wasn't happy about it lieutenant." she replied, "I mean how would you feel if you found out that someone you loved was cheating on you with a two-bit whore from another department? Did I want to kill him? Was I angry?" ~So much for not resorting to name calling~ Ben considered how he would feel if he found himself in a similar position, would he be disappointed, angry, enraged. He decided he couldn't honestly offer an answer on the grounds that he had never been in that situation, he had no common ground for comparison. She downed the rest of her drink, "You're damned straight I was angry and that I wanted the bastard dead. I may be a lot of things mister Soma, but I am not a murderer." "That is what I am here to determine." Ben said in response. She was clearly upset about learning that Taylor wasn't commited to her but she didn't seem overly upset concerning his murder. She expressed the basic emotions of anger and hatred towards the deceased, but she didn't appear surprised by his death. "Where were you between the hours of 1200 to 1530?" Ben asked. She'd been like that all day, working hard on setting up inoculation schedules to combat a new strain of Rossi Arian Pox, that had been found on one of the visiting merchant ships. Her virology teams had been keeping her very busy and for the first time during the day, Gena was almost ready to call it a day, when there was a short knock at her door. "Doctor Harvey may I speak with you?" Gena looked up to see a relatively handsome man standing in her doorway. Judging from his build he was athletic and seemed very graceful. His uniform marked him as support, so he must have something important or he wouldn't have come so far out of his way to visit her. "Certainly..." Her eyes traveler to his collar, "Lieutenant. Ben let that sink in for a moment before continuing. "I'm investigating the murder of Captain Taylor and I have a couple questions for you." Ben said. "I'm investigating the murder of Captain Taylor and I have a couple questions for you." Ben said. Gena felt her knees go weak. She stumbled, but managed to catch herself before she collapsed. ~Murder?~ "Did you say Murder?" she asked weakly as she dumped herself into a nearby chair. She simply didn't trust her legs to continue to do their job. "How would you describe your relationship with Captain Taylor." "Uh...." she began, still shocked by the news that Joseph was dead. "We were seeing each other." A slight pause, then she added, "Romantically." "When was the last time you saw the Captain?" "Two days ago." she said as the tears started to flow down her cheeks. "He said he was making some arrangements, we were going to go to Risa together on shore leave, the two of us." NRPG: There should only be one ship in dock with the destination of Risa on it's filed flight plan. That would be T'Sek's ship. She was visually shaken and had to sit down obviously not trusting her legs to support her at the moment. Ben regretted she had learned about the Captains death this way but it couldn't be helped, he assumed it was common knowledge aboard the station at this point but clearly he had been mistaken. Usually scuttle butt and gossip was the only thing that rivaled a starship for speed. She confirmed that they were romantically involved and were planning on taking a trip to Risa, he would have Sanok look into the details and confirm the travel arrangements. "I'm sorry you learned of the events this way, I assumed you knew." Ben replied in an even tone. Pulling up a chair to sit opposite the Doctor he continued. "I realize this is uncomfortable for you, I'll try to keep this as brief as possible." He assured her. "How did Captain Taylor seem the last time you saw him?" Ben asked and then added. "Was he distracted, did he seem uneasy or distant?" (reply Harvey) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Security office - ACEO Ensign Eian O'Neill - Day 2 - 2000) Eian chimed the door, took a deep breath, and entered. Ben was sitting at the desk, going over PADDs. He looked perplexed to Eian. "I've finished the profile, Sir." (reply Soma) "Yes, Sir. There are a few things the profile can't specify because of the nature of the crime. The lack of mutilation of the body, and the lack of destruction of the surroundings rules out being able to identify gender or species. As you probably know, Sir, most extremely violent and destructive crimes are not committed between species or gender, in most cases, and females of historically patriarchal societies generally don't commit those kinds of crimes. But this murder seems to indicate purely instrumental anger, not passion and not rage." (reply Soma iyw) He pulled up the medical report on his PADD and referenced it as he said, "The wound seems to be made from only one weapon, and only one strike, though it's a most unusual kind of wound. I'll leave that to the medical professionals to figure out, though--my point, Sir, is that only one weapon and only one strike rules out a crime of passion completely. Passionate crimes almost always involve more than one blow or strike, unless the person is subjected to something torturous like being pushed into a vat of acid. And although this probably wasn't a pleasant way to go, it wasn't torturous. This was definitely an instrumental crime." (reply Soma iyw) He pulled up the crime scene evidence report and continued, "Looking at what was left at the crime scene and the manner in which the victim was killed, we have great reason to believe the person who killed him was experienced--he's definitely killed before. He's in a middle age bracket for his race, whatever is the equivalent of about late twenties onward for humans. It's unlikely he's older than the equivalent of sixty human years--we just don't see these kinds of murders committed by individuals who have passed the halfway mark in their lives." (reply Soma iyw) "There was no semen left on the body, although there was evidence of sexual activity in the bedroom and evidence of recent sexual activity for the Captain. There was no evidence that anything was non-consensual or that the killer got any "pleasure" out of the murder itself. That further points to the instrumental side of the killing...if I were you, Sir, I wouldn't focus too much on the Captain's personal romantic or social dealings, but instead on any business dealings he might have had on the side. I've read what we have on him and it seems that he'd be identified as a high-risk victim, someone in a situation, whether they know it or not, that has a high risk for going badly. There is a chance that someone close to him hired a professional executioner for romantic or social revenge, and if that's the case then you should concentrate on anyone who may have returned to the crime scene and had no reason to be there. They won't be the killer, but they might have hired him. If anyone, for non-professional reasons, has requested to see the Captain's body or has accessed station security logs to see a video feed of the body, that's a person of interest. And it's possible, since we're on a space station, that one of the Captain's staff may have been the beneficiary of this executioner and is now using their position to gain access to logs and video feed when they have no real reason to do so. But, historically speaking, it's almost impossible for the person who hired the killer to resist seeing the killer's work." (reply Soma iyw) "The other possibility, besides a business deal gone wrong and a hired hit, is that this was a random act of violence by an extremely intelligent person. But because the killer had to have been able to get through the Captain's door, that person would have to have engineering skills as well. It's also a guarantee that if this was a random act of violence or some kind of personal vendetta against captain's or Starfleet in general, that the killer is a sociopath or a serial killer who has no empathy for the victim. Whoever did this had no empathy for the victim whatsoever, but that could have been caused by the instrumental anger--if there was no instrumental anger, if the Captain did nothing to anger the killer, then the person is most definitely a serial killer or sociopath." (reply Soma) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Security office - CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma - 2001) The door chimed and Eian entered stating he had finished with the profile, he had been accurate about his estimated time for finishing. "Have a seat Ensign, lets hear what you have." Ben said indicating a vacant chair in front of the desk. "Yes, Sir. But this murder seems to indicate purely instrumental anger, not passion and not rage." Ben listened as Eian went over his profile, the nature of the crime and the lack of evidence was troubling. "I don't think passion or rage was a motive for the murder." Ben said. "The wound seems to be made from only one weapon, and only one strike, though it's a most unusual kind of wound. This was definitely an instrumental crime." Ben nodded, he came to the same conclusion. The murder wasn't an act of rage or of passion, whoever had done this knew what they were doing and just how to go about killing Captain Taylor with little struggle." "Go on." Ben said intent on hearing Eian out. "Looking at what was left at the crime scene and the manner in which the victim was killed, we have great reason to believe the person who killed him was experienced--he's definitely killed before. He's in a middle age bracket for his race, whatever is the equivalent of about late twenties onward for humans. It's unlikely he's older than the equivalent of sixty human years--we just don't see these kinds of murders committed by individuals who have passed the halfway mark in their lives." "I agree." Ben responded. "The murderer is highly skilled and experienced. Though I wouldn't rule out someone based on age, there are medical procedures as well as various stimulants that would give just about anyone the physical edge required to commit this crime." Eian then continued with mentioning the evidence suggesting sexual activity by the Captain, as well as suggesting over looking the Captains romantic interests in favor of looking into the Captains business transactions. Ben would follow up all leads that presented themselves no matter how trivial they may seem, anything could come out in an interrogation and he intended to learn everything he could. Eian went on to mention a hired hit, it had occured to Ben that it was a possibility and he would look into it if nothing else pointed him in a definite direction. Eian then went on to mention it may have been a random act of violence, this didn't seem like the case to Ben. The murder of a Stations Commanding officer locked in his quarters was no act of random violence. "Very good Mr. O'Neill." Ben said. "You seem to have all the angles covered. Though for the time being I'm not considering this to be a random act of violence. This had a purpose, random violence tends to be messy." (reply O'Neill iyw, any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, RJs, Ensign sg Sanok, 2112) While Sanok was out and about on the station talking to people, he came upon RJs. Stopping and looking at it, he reconsidered if he should seek the aid of the proprietors. With nothing to lose but some Federation credits, he decided to take the risk, and entered. Seeing Rupert at the bar, he approached him. "Hello, Rupert." Rupert eyed Sanok. "It has come to my attention, that you have a network of contacts," said Sanok. Rupert looked at Sanok suspiciously. "Maybe," he replied after a pause. "I am not interested in bringing you into custody," said Sanok. "I am here to make use of those contacts." "What do you mean?" said Rupert, his curiosity apparently piqued. Sanok handed Rupert a PADD. While Rupert was reading it, Jack came from the back office area and joined his partner behind the bar. "Ensign Vulcan! To what do we owe the pleasure?" said Jack. Rupert handed him the PADD and Jack began to read it. "There isn't much to go on," he said to Sanok. "No, there is not. Are you able to help?" said Sanok. "It will take time," said Rupert. "I know." "There will be expenses." "Of course." Rupert rubbed his chin and looked towards the ceiling. "I'll do what I can," he said with a shrug. "Thank you. Contact me through base security if you find anything." Sanok nodded, then walked away. Hopefully, Rupert and Jack would be able to provide the information he needed. When he was out of their restaurant and amidst the crowd on the promenade, Jack turned to Rupert, his face showing that he wasn't happy about something. "Why did you talk to him? We don't need a Starfleet officer that isn't on our payroll, snooping around." "Relax," said Rupert. "You read the PADD. He was here strictly for a business deal. You're getting too jittery." "Too jittery? Too jittery? The freaking captain of the station was murdered, and you're saying I'm too jittery?" Jack's face was becoming quite red. "Yes, that was rather inconvenient, but things will blow over after a while," said Rupert. "After a while isn't good enough," said Jack. "We have obligations to meet, and certain people aren't concerned that base security is on its toes while those security guys from the Rosenante are looking into everything." "Which is why I'm taking care of it." Rupert looked past Jack. "And here he is now." Jack turned around to see what his partner was looking at. "You've got to be kidding me." A young Human male in civilian clothing entered the restaurant, nervously looking around as he did. Feeling that it was okay to do so, he walked right up to Rupert and Jack at the bar. "You're late," said Rupert. "I saw you talking to that Vulcan security officer from the Rosenante. I waited outside until I was sure he was gone." "A wise precaution. Please, come with us to our office," said Rupert, motioning with his hand for the young man to go. "We have much to discuss, Ensign Simmons." Ben said. "You seem to have all the angles covered. Though for the time being I'm not considering this to be a random act of violence. This had a purpose, random violence tends to be messy." "I agree, Sir," Eian said. "The only way this could be in any way 'random' is if the Captain was a 'random' target for some kind of vigilante, but that seems unlikely given the evidence. I think the investigation should concentrate on the other avenues and only pursue that one if there's no other leads." (reply Soma) Eian nodded. "So, Sir...I think I could be of more help to you. If you grant access to the recordings of any interviews you might conduct, I'll be able to read the subject's body language and tone of voice and tell you what I can. And I'd like to see the station's security log for the past year or so...if I can search for crimes that fit the profile of this type of offender, it might indicate pre-offense behavior like petty theft, property destruction, you know. Anything that could point to the offender's planned attack or anyone the offender might have enlisted to help him complete his attack. Or, in the case of a hired hit, anyone the beneficiary might have hired to conspire against the Captain." People who hired others to kill someone didn't often resort to that kind of act as their first attempt to fix their problem. In the case of spouses, it was often after endless arguments and a strange 'lull', followed by an artificial 'bliss' in the relationship, that a spouse hired an assassin. In the case of coworkers or business partners, it was often after attempts to quietly ruin the victim financially or socially that an assassin was hired. I think the investigation should concentrate on the other avenues and only pursue that one if there's no other leads." Ben considered what Eian had said during his explanation of his profile, it was solid but the random act of violence didn't seem likely in the least. This was done with a purpose in mind and he was going to find out what it was and bring who ever was involved to justice. "I will consider that should nothing else come to light." Ben responded. Eian then stated he could be of further use if he was granted access to information from interviews so he could read the subjects body language as well as thier voices and inform Ben of what he learned. He also requested the stations security logs for the last year to see if anything in them matched with his profile, he was taking alot on himself and Ben didn't want him to become distracted from his regular duties though they may be reduced considering the ship was docked at the moment. "I'll see what I can do." Ben said. "As long as it doesn't interfere with your duties." He knew this was secondary and he would have to spend some time in engineering tomorrow morning before he even got to do any work on this case. Suddenly, he remembered a part of his profile that he had neglected to mention. "Sir, I almost forgot to mention--when you look for this suspect, you'll be looking for someone that the Captain has seen before, and possibly even spoken to before. He didn't have to know him very well, but they probably have had some kind of interaction in the past. The Captain's autopsy showed no severely debilitating substances in his system that would prevent him from moving away from his attacker, and if this guy suddenly appeared with some kind of weapon in quarters the Captain believed were secure, the natural reaction would be to move away as quickly as possible. The fact that there were no defensive wounds also points to the Captain allowing the perpetrator to get very close without a fight. That's another piece of evidence that contributes to the theory that he knew his attacker, at least peripherally." (reply Soma) "Yes, Sir. Thank you, Sir." Hoping that having a foundation of what things were like on the station would aid him in solving the crime, he had been satisfied with what he had learned thus far. When he arrived in the base security office, Sanok noticed that Ensign O'Neill was talking with Ben. Standing off to the side, he listened to the conversation. When they were finished and O'Neill had left, Sanok walked up to Ben. "I have returned from scouting the station, so to speak," said Sanok. He looked at the door O'Neill had exited. "He is an enthusiastic, young officer, eager to please. However, does he not realize, that any Starfleet Academy cadet seeking Sec/Tac as their major, that took the criminal investigations course, as you and I did, were also trained in profiling as a standard part of the curriculum?" The ship seemed less occupied and the pace was less urgent. All in all, this was her favorite time, but the CMO was a little to tired to enjoy it. The endless poking and prodding of the computers, the sifting though the data, and watching recreation of the injury had taken their toll. Kimiko tried to avoid it, but she had a healthly dislike for the man who had the bad form to die on her R&R. Kimiko got to the door. ~Funny, I thought it would be a little..well more~ The silken wall hangings, gold curlicues, and white-gloved sideboys, from Kimiko's imagination, were notably absent. The door enunciator sounded. "Computer pause recording and save to supplemental log." Ahmed said. [Saved] the computer responded as the Captain rose from his overstuffed chair and headed for the door to his quarters. The long silk tableau that listed his genealogy dating back to the First Crusades, stirred slightly as he passed by the intricate work of art. This one was, of course an exact replica of the one held at the family estates in Egypt. It was simply too valuable to be risked. He reached out and pressed the button that opened the door to his quarters. The door slid aside to reveal doctor Ichijo. "Come in doctor." Ahmed said in an inviting tone. "I was just adding to my supplemental log." He led the way inside and gestured to the well appointed room. Everything had a distinct middle eastern or Mediterranean feel to it, right down to the few ancient artifacts that were displayed in the display cases around the room. His main desk was cluttered with hardbound leather books on a variety of archeological subjects, and a few small artifacts were displayed neatly on a small table. "Sit wherever you'd like doctor." he offered, "Can I get you something particular from the Replicator?" "For your sake I wouldn't press your luck. Have the information turned over to us or we'll be forced to add to the station's body count." He threatened. "And I dare say that my employer could handle more scrutiny that you could by Starfleet if it came to that."   "Well you are lucky that Ferengi tradition doesn't allow one to kill the messenger, because if you weren't acting in that capacity, I'd have killed you for touching me." he threatened the much larger Orion. Nargo fixed him with a stare the would have made another being fear for his continued existence. "You wouldn't dare. You know well enough who my employer is. There would be revenge and you would find no place safe to hide, Quol Nor. That I can promise, not to mention the desires for my own Syndicate to recoup their losses that would come as a result of my death at your hands." The Orion reached up and fished the agonizer from his back. He then crushed it in a single meaty fist, without difficulty. "I will pay you a visit in another couple of days, you should be certain that you have what I want by then." To accentuate his point, Nargo dumped the shattered remains of the Mirror universe device into a small pile on the table. "Think on it." he said and then turned to leave the Ferengi to consider his prospects for the future. (reply Quol Nor) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Corridor outside quarters - ACEO Ensign Eian O'Neill - Day 3 - 0650) Eian had exercised that morning, played with Murphy, and had breakfast. He was about to report to engineering to help Crewman Nappa with the shield capacitor upgrades. The Tougharty array was in place now and it was just a matter of calibrating the capacitors before the upgrades were finished. Eian estimated that by noon time, they'd be completed. His combadge buzzed just as he exited his quarters. =^=Soma to O'Neill, there is a matter I'd like your assistance with. Where are you now?=^= "I'm right outside my quarters, Sir. Where would you like to meet?" (reply Soma) "Aye, Sir, I'll be right there. O'Neill out." He smiled slightly. ~I'll bet it's the case...he liked what you did and he wants your further help. This is excellent--this could be an important note on your resume when you're transferring to Tactical,~ he couldn't help but think. As he walked down the corridor, he did his mental checklist. ~Okay, uniform clean, combadge secure--*obviously*--stimulant taken, breakfast eaten, exercise done, Murphy's absorption rug clean~ that was a new one, ~ And that thing I wanted to do last night, what was that?~ He was getting that familiar mental block feeling, so he quickly changed the subject in his head to the engineering upgrade plans and then it came to him. ~Oh, that's right! Face-to-face Holosuite program code fixed. I think.~ That was everything. He was ready for action. (reply none) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Food Court - Ferengi Entrepreneur - Quol Nor - 0652) The large Orion crushed the agonizer in his hand reducing it to naught but dust. That didn't concern or intimidate the Ferengi he had more. Only one thing was running through his mind at the time. ~That brute, that emitter cost me ten bars of gold-pressed latinum!~ "I will pay you a visit in another couple of days, you should be certain that you have what I want by then." To accentuate his point, Nargo dumped the shattered remains of the Mirror universe device into a small pile on the table. "Think on it." he said and then turned to leave the Ferengi to consider his prospects for the future. Quol knew that knowledge was power, but power with a half-life less then the most unstable atom. The information that he gave the Captain was not only less valuable at this point, but also very useless, because the person it was of most value to was dead. There was of course on other whom it had value. The Romulan Captain who sent the Orion to rough him up had a great interest in the information or it's destruction. He still had the Romulan isolinear chip containing the information back at his office. He also would with a stroke of his finger send a command bouncing around the station to the chip in the Captain's possession causing the information to delete itself with out any traces. He entered the command, which soon came back with an 'acknowledged' letting him know that it was done. It would have to be one helluva computer genius to be able to obtain that information. Quol doubted anyone in Starfleet had the lobes. She was marrying the man meant for her. She was currently composing a message to her mom and dad detailing the happy news. Her mom and dad were wondering if she would ever marry! They, like most parents of adult children, craved grandkids to spoil rotten! She was explaining about Hank, how they met and what their plans were to date. She and Hank needed to get to work on additional plans for the festivities. They had not decided on who would perform the ceremony – she kind of hoped Captain Salid might. Neither she nor Hank had had time to ask anyone. She had spoken with her department’s chief, Lt Jackson, who offered her some wise advice. She queried the computer as to where he currently was and was told =^= Lt Jackson is currently on SB 989 visiting a Ferengi merchant =^= the computer replied. She frowned and thought for a moment.Emily typed a message requesting to see the Lieutenant at his earliest convenience. She had some free time and wanted to go visit the base before they moved on to their next mission. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – Engineering - SB 989 Docked - PO3 Hank Stevens – Day 3 - 0902) Hank arrived early . He needed to speak to Lt Matrix about his wedding plans. The Lieutenant was not currently in - Hank suspected the CEO was rummaging around in the bowels of the Rose. Hank was amazed at Matrix's ability to seemingly detect faults before they were noticed by others. One of the Engineering A/CEO's said the chief would be back soon. Hank went into the CEO's office and waited for his return. Not something he anticipated doing the first thing in the morning. "Good morning chief," said Lieutenant Peter Cohen as he handed Matrix the duty PADD. "Good morning Mister Cohen...how are things here so far?" asked Matrix. "Gamma shift finished repairs on the tasks 113a through 138b...that was a major undertaking if I may say so myself... the consumable's storage on deck 23 experienced a waste conduit leak overnight. Repair and cleaning crews are nearly finished with the clean up." Peter gave a foul expression. Matrix did the same, "Yea, I heard about that...you'd think our engineering prowess would have eliminated such things hundreds of years ago." replied Matrix has he concentrated on the PADD display. Matrix looked up suddenly at Peter. "Really?" asked Matrix. Peter grimaced, "Yes chief, I'm afraid so." Matrix looked back again at his PADD in disbelief. "I must have been in a Jefferies tube too long....wow...I hadn't heard about that. A murder on the space station?!" replied Matrix. "Well, I'm sure they'll find whomever is responsible." said Matrix. "Chief I need to get back to deck 25 and check the status of the reactant loaders. I believe Mister Stevens is waiting for you in your office." said Peter. Matrix looked up at Peter, "Okay...thanks for the update and good luck with Miss Daves there Peter." said Matrix. Peter turned and gave Matrix the universal number one sign and continued out of engineering. Matrix chuckled and made his way to his office. "Ah, Mister Stevens...what can I do for you this fine morning?" (Reply Stevens) "Please, take a seat Mister Stevens and lets discuss this." replied Matrix as he turned to the food replicator just behind is desk. "Coffee, hot...black." said Matrix. The replicator buzz was brief and Matrix took his coffee and put it on his desk. "Can I get you anything Mister Stevens?" asked Matrix. (Reply Stevens) "So, what's on your mind?" asked Matrix.
