I understand that you were the officer that discovered captain Taylor's body?" Ahmed asked. "Yes Sir." Evan replied remaining ram rod straight. "I found Captain Taylor here lying a pool of blood." "And you assumed the responsibility for the crime scene, ordered it secured and began an investigation?" Ahmed pressed. "Those were my orders as received by Lieutenant Krawl Sir." Evan stated. "I assigned two crewman to guard the hall, then got another to begin scanning the room for any evidence to a perpetrator while I scanned Captain Taylor's body. Was I in error Sir?" "No you've done nothing wrong mister Dunphy. I am simply seeking to establish a time line of events immediately following the discovery of the captain's body. What time did you make the discovery?" He asked. "I found Captain Taylor like this shortly after 1500." The Rsenante's Captain noted the time on a padd, Taylor had been dead for well over an hour at least. An autopsy would reveal the true time of death but Evan didn't want to make an estimate, he wasn't trained in that area. "Are you familiar with Starfleet Regulation six-fifty four ?" Ahmed asked. "Of course Sir." Evan replied more than a little curious as to why the Captain mentioned it. "Good. Then you will understand what I mean when I say that the Rosenante's chief of security and Rosenante personnel will be conducting the investigation of the murder going forward." "Understood Sir." Evan replied feeling a little relieved that someone else would be heading up the investigation and he could move on to something else, he like working in security but sometimes things were too much for him and murder feel into that category. "My chief of security, Lieutenant Soma, is on his way here presently. I would like for you and your men, " Ahmed gestured towards those standing nearby, "To make themselves available for interviews to help us establish the facts. I also think you showed a great deal of initiative and creativity in gaining access to the Captain's quarters, so I'd like to request that you remain active on the investigation. However if you feel that this would be a conflict of interests or that you are too close to this investigation I can understand that." Evan beamed at the praise the Rosenante's Captain had offered, he was expecting the worse and was pleased with himself. However, the request that he remain active on the investigation was unexpected. With the arrival of the Rosenante's chief of security he thought he would be clear, he would cooperate with the Rosenante's crew and to ensure his coworkers fell in line he would remain active as requested. "You have my word that everyone will cooperate with you security chief Sir." Evan replied. "I don't feel it would be a conflict of interest for me to remain active with the investigation, I didn't know the Captain as well as I could have." (reply Salid, iyw) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene, CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma- 1629) Ben arrived just as the security detail for the Rosenante transported in, he immediately issued orders for the area to be secured and access to the section restricted to anyone without the proper security clearance. He watched as the team scattered to carry out their orders and headed straight to the Captain's cabin. Stepping inside he noticed Captain Saild speaking with one of the stations security officers and decided not to bother either of them for the time being. He crossed to stand over the body of Captain Taylor and noticed the drying blood pool as well as the broken glass around the body, it could have been the result of a struggle or simply knocked over when Taylor fell. Everything thing else in the room was undisturbed so it appeared for the moment robbery was not a motive, this had been personal. Bending down for a closer look he was surprised to see there was no evidence of a struggle, no smudges on the captains uniform, no bruises or abrasions on any of the exposed skin and no scuff marks on the Captains shoes. ~Strange~ Ben thought. ~How is it someone murdered the Captain and he didn't put up a fight~ Grabbing the tricorder he had been handed by one of the Rosenante's officers he began scanning the body for any signs of foreign DNA or anything else that may shed some light on who did this. To his surprise the scan didn't pick up anything of use. The only DNA present was the Captain's and there was no foreign material of any kind. Hopefully the security logs would be more helpful. Glancing around he noticed that the Captain's conversation was drawing to an end, standing he moved towards him and stopped a couple steps short and said. "Captain." (reply Salid, any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989- Security Offices- CSEC Ardaa Mosul- Day 2 - 1630) Ardaa all but collapsed into the chair that she had been standing in front of just a few moments prior. The news had hit her like a ton of latinum bricks; a bittersweet justification and a terrible loss. Her hands started to tremble for a few moments and Dale Alcott, the security officer that had delivered the news to her a few minutes earlier just stood staring at her. "Serves the bastard right." she finally managed despite the emotional pain of the moment. "That will teach him to cheat on me." Alcott stared at her for a little while longer before he eventually replied. "Look chief, I didn't like him either, but if I were you, I'd be very careful what you say for a little while. I mean hell..." he reached up and rubbed the back of his neck with his left hand. "There are plenty of rumors running around at the moment that you actually killed him." Ardaa's eyes shot upwards, resolving themselves into two hardened black coals of anger. They didn't waver, but seemed to bore their way through Alcott's skull. There was a silent challenge there, one that rocked the junior officer to his very core. "Relax Dale, I didn't ice the old man," she said easily, "no matter how much I despised the pompous little pr**k." Dale gave a single nod, and allowed his eyes to drop to the floor for a few seconds. "You think it was a deal gone south?" he asked quietly, "I mean do you think someone killed him because of his other dealings?" Ardaa shrugged. "Hard to tell with Joseph." she replied, "He was always looking for ways to make a few extra credits, or to build up his influence. It's possible that he pushed one of the Ferengi too far, or maybe one of his Orion contacts." "And then there's that Romulan" Dale added. "Yeah, then there's the Romulans." Ardaa echoed. "Either way, it should be a quick investigation. I'll just send someone down to put together a report and we'll wrap this investigation up inside a day or two." Dale seemed surprised for some reason, he just stared at her. "What?" she finally asked him. "I guess you haven't heard." Dale replied meekly. "Heard what?" she asked as a sense of dread began to form in the back of her brain. "Krawl has called in some help on this one." "What kind of help?" Ardaa asked knowing she was going to regret the answer. "A starship Captain named Salid. He's taken over the investigation. He's cited some regs and has assigned his own crew to the task." Dale said nervously. "Salid? I don't think I know the name. can't be anyone of consequence." "That's what I thought too, but I managed to get access to his Starfleet record. He's an engineer, or was. Was assigned to the Nimitz, then the Champlain and then the Hypatia, before moving to the Rosenante. He made captain shortly after the civil war." "That's not so surprising lots of captains were made after the war." Ardaa stated. "Yeah I know, but that's not all. He's something of an idealist, even in Starfleet circles. The guys testified at a handful of trials for people that had been on the other side. His father was a war hero, saved a lot of people at the battle of Cardassia." "Sooo?" Ardaa asked impatiently, "there's nothing there that says he's some super investigator or anything." "True," Dale conceded, "But I get the feeling that he's tenacious, and I've been looking over the dossiers of his crew." "Okay.... And?" "And he's got quite a collection of top officers. Almost all vets of the war, and most decorated for valor in some way. But most interestingly..." Dale paused for a moment, "most interestingly, His chief Operations officer is Thomas Jackson, who just so happens to be the step son of Pez." "Sh*t!" Ardaa swore. Dale nodded. "Yeah and Salid and Jackson graduated the academy together and get this, Salid knew Joe Taylor." "How did they know each other?" Ardaa asked. "They were on the Academy boxing team together. They were sparring partners and it seems good friends. Joe mentioned him in several of his personal logs, although nothing very recent." Dale advised. "Who's in charge of the investigation directly." she asked then. "Ben Soma, Lieutenant. Chief Security and Tactical Officer of the Rosenante." "Soma?" Ardaa said as she worked the word around in her mouth as if she were tasting it. "Where do I know that name from?" "He was one of the ones that Rupert mentioned. One of the ones that arrested Hasley at RJs." "Ah, I see." Ardaa said with a brief nod of her head. "I can now understand why you think there will be trouble." Dale just regarded her for a moment before replying, "I knew you would. What do you want to do about it?" Ardaa thought for a few moments and smiled. "Double our men on Pez, when he moves I want to have him completely covered. I want to know why he's here exactly. if his stepson shows up, I want him trailed as long as he's on the station." "Okay." Dale said. "What about Soma and Salid. "We watch for now. I want to know who killed Taylor and why. Then I want whatever it was that they were after. Send a message to Qual Nor. "Tell him I'm coming to visit once I've checked in with the investigator." Dale nodded. (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- SB 989, Murder Scene, Ensign sg Sanok, 1633) While Sanok had traveled through the station to reach the scene of the murder, whoever it was that was killed, he thought back to the time he and Ben were on Axtis III for a martial arts tournament, that ended up being a murder investigation. Someone said that history repeats itself, and they were certainly correct. Sanok was also wondering who the victim was that caused security from the Rosenante to head the investigation. Perhaps it was the base Chief of Security. Sanok also thought about his talk with Rupert and Jack. He couldn't tell what, but there was something they weren't telling him. Perhaps he would find the time to look into them more, though the murder investigation would take precedence. He found it to be ironic that he wanted to spend this leave time on the Rosenante. Once inside the actual place of the murder, Sanok saw Captain Salid and Ben engaged in a conversation. Moving through the bevy of activity, he joined them, standing just off to the side, his hands clasped behind his back. (reply Salid, Soma, any) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB 989, Murder Scene, CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma, 1634) Ben heard footsteps approaching him and Captain Salid, they were even and never faltered. Considering what the individual had just walked into the footsteps could only belong to one person, Sanok. Turning slightly he wasn't surprised to find his assumption had been correct. Most people would have stopped, slowed their pace or even quickened them to get past the sight of Taylor's body. Now doubt his friend was having the same sense of deja vu he was having, it was almost like Axtis III all over again. Shore leave, martial arts tournament and a murder, if others wouldn't think he was loosing his mind he would have laughed at the similarities. Sanok came to stand beside him with his arms crossed behind his back, shore leave had ended and duty had found them once again. "I scanned Captain Taylor and found no evidence of his assailant on or near him, it appears the vase was broken during his fall." Ben said. Then he added so only Sanok would hear. "I'd like you to scan the room, see if there's any evidence of who ever did this. Nothing against the stations security officers but I'd feel better if someone I trusted was running the scan." (reply Sanok, any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB 989, Murder Scene, Ensign sg Sanok, 1635) Sanok stood quietly while Ben gave a report to Captain Salid. "I scanned Captain Taylor and found no evidence of his assailant on or near him. It appears the vase was broken during his fall." Sanok raised an eyebrow. The person murdered was the base commanding officer, Captain Taylor. No wonder security from the Rosenante would be handling the investigation. Turning to Sanok, Ben said, "I'd like you to scan the room. See if there's any evidence of whoever did this. Nothing against the station's security officers, but I'd feel better if someone I trusted was running the scan." "Yes, sir," said Sanok with a nod. "Captain." As he walked away, Sanok realized how odd it was to him to refer to his friend as, sir. They were on duty, so it was proper and fitting to do so, especially in the presence of the captain. There was a base security officer standing off to the side, so Sanok approached him. "I am Ensign Sanok from the Rosenante. I will need to use your tricorder, please." "I already scanned the room," said the officer. "Even so, I still require your tricorder," said Sanok. The man frowned, then reluctantly handed over the tricorder. "Thank you, Ensign..." said Sanok, his voice trailing off. "Simmons. Ensign Carl Simmons." "That will be all, Ensign Simmons." Simmons sighed. Apparently, he was not happy about this at all. Without a word, he left the room. Sanok began to carefully and meticulously scan the quarters of Captain Taylor. (reply Salid, Soma, any) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene, CO Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 2- 1636) "You have my word that everyone will cooperate with you security chief Sir." Evan replied. "I don't feel it would be a conflict of interest for me to remain active with the investigation, I didn't know the Captain as well as I could have." Ahmed smiled, "Very well Mister Dunphy, I'll see to it that Mister Soma keeps you involved. We could use a local to help us unravel the politics and the intrigues on this station." (reply Dunphy) "If you would be kind enough to standby for a little while longer, Mister Dunphy, I need to speak with my Chief of Security. If you'll excuse me." (reply Dunphy) Ahmed stepped away from the eager and apparently capable security officer and stepped into the actual crime scene. He stood just a few feet inside the doorway and just allowed his eyes to sweep over the compartment. He could see easily enough the disturbed materials that had happened as a result of the initial arrival team. The crime scene was already contaminated, but not enough to be so destructive that they wouldn't be able to find something to go with. ~So what were you doing that got you killed Joseph?~ Ahmed asked himself. ~Who did you cross and how?~ There was the sound of transporters and Ahmed noted with pleasure that they were security officers from the Rosenante. It seemed as if they understood already what the situation was and they spread out to relieve the station's native detail from their watch, although they didn't dismiss them. ~very good.~ Ahmed noted and then he spotted Soma. The chief had already managed to get into the scene and was conducting some scans with a tricorder. It didn't take long for the Chief to notice him and head his way. "Captain." he said as acknowledgment. "As you were Mister Soma." Ahmed said. "I scanned Captain Taylor and found no evidence of his assailant on or near him, it appears the vase was broken during his fall." Ben said. Ahmed nodded and took a step forward. He leaned down near one of the shards of glass that had been buried under the body. He took a big sniff and frowned slightly before standing back up. "Unless Captain Taylor took to drinking his Maker's Mark Whiskey from a vase lieutenant, I submit to you that the broken class is from a broken tumbler glass. The other matching three are on the wet bar there." Ahmed nodded towards the bar. Sanok, another of the Rosenante's security officers joined them and Ahmed noticed the slightly raised eyebrow that seemed universally Vulcan. Soma turned to the Vulcan and said, "I'd like you to scan the room, see if there's any evidence of who ever did this. Nothing against the stations security officers but I'd feel better if someone I trusted was running the scan." "Yes, sir," said Sanok with a nod. "Captain." Ahmed returned the nod and the Vulcan officer went about collecting his data. "Ben, let me be straight forward with you." Ahmed began as he placed his hand on the lieutenant's shoulder as a means to guide him away from the majority of prying ears. "It's obviously murder, and Ensign Dunphy over there," Ahmed gestured to the waiting station officer, "stated that he had to do some pretty fancy interpretive engineering just to gain access to the compartment. That tells me two things. First is that Taylor had to use his Captains Security overrides to lock the door to his quarters and the second is that whomever killed him wanted him dead very badly." Ahmed continued, "I suspect that you won't find much of use in the security logs, as they will either be cleared or they will be missing, that would make the Security Chief suspect right away, but consider that it could have been any of the officers on this station that could be responsible." "I knew Joe in the Academy, we graduated together, He had a gray moral compass sometimes. He barely passed his ethics courses for commissioning, so I have no doubt that he did something that he shouldn't have done. That said, that means that he was probably into some shady dealings with maybe the Ferengi or the Orions. Couple that with the mans womanizing and manipulative ways and you can see how complex this is going to be." "You'll need to interview anyone that you think might be involved in this in any way. We need solid evidence, so work on your three M's: Means, Motive and Method. Understood?" (reply Soma) Ahmed considered the very limited amount of information that he had right now and sighed. He only hoped that Soma and his team could make heads or tails of things. "I want you to get engineering involved. Have Matrix and O'Neill work on the door scenario. I want confirmation of Dunphy's entry as well as a thorough search of the quarters for unexpected devices, alien relics or anything else of interest. I want the body under guard at all times, until it is safely aboard the ship. I want to know who comes, who goes and the when's and why's of it." (reply Soma) "Where the hell is Ichijo?" he asked after a moment. (reply Soma, Sanok, Ichijo) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene, Security Officer Evan Dunphy- 1637) Ahmed smiled, "Very well Mister Dunphy, I'll see to it that Mister Soma keeps you involved. We could use a local to help us unravel the politics and the intrigues on this station." "You can count on me Sir." Evan replied. "If you would be kind enough to standby for a little while longer, Mister Dunphy, I need to speak with my Chief of Security. If you'll excuse me." "Of course Sir." Evan said. He watched as Salid moved towards an officer he didn't recognize, he was lean, average weight and height but something about the way he carried himself and the way he stood told Evan he wasn't someone to be messed with. Whether he intended to or not the young man projected an air of confidence, he was clearly athletic, well toned. Evan could tell from the fluid movements as the man moved. This Mister Soma was a force to be reckoned with, Evan was glad he wasn't going to be on the receiving end of this man's interrogations. He clearly took his duty seriously, he'd have fun with the station's personnel. Things on a station were run a little differently then on a starship. (reply any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene, CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma- 1638) "You'll need to interview anyone that you think might be involved in this in any way. We need solid evidence, so work on your three M's: Means, Motive and Method. Understood?" Salid had just told Ben how he had known Taylor from the Academy, how his past was a little shady. He mentioned the length's Dunphy had gone through to open the door that Taylor had secured. Why had he locked him self in the room in such a manner, it was understandable had he been out of his cabin. What was he trying to hide, or who was trying to hide from. "I'll start on the interviews as soon as I'm done here." Ben replied. "Someone knows about this and I will find them." "I want you to get engineering involved. Have Matrix and O'Neill work on the door scenario. I want confirmation of Dunphy's entry as well as a thorough search of the quarters for unexpected devices, alien relics or anything else of interest. I want the body under guard at all times, until it is safely aboard the ship. I want to know who comes, who goes and the when's and why's of it." "I'll contact them and have them report here, I'd like one of them to access the logs just in case there is something there." Ben said. "The Captain's body will be under guard until it is removed from the scene and I'll have standing orders left for whomever is here to take a note of who comes and goes and for what purpose." Then Salid made an inquiry as to the Doctors location, Ben assumed no response was required as the Captain wasn't addressing anyone in particular at that time. Dismissing himself he tapped his comm badge and said. "Soma to Lieutenant Matrix and Ensign O'Neill, report to section 22, level 9, room 212 on the station. Bring engineering kits, detection equipment and a data storage device." (reply Matrix, O'Neill) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Personal Quarters - ACEO Ensign Eian O'Neill - Day 2 - 1639*) Eian had just gotten back to his quarters from the replicator on the station. He had replicated a leash, a collar, food and water bowls, a few toys, an absorption rug, and a small fence. He expected to find Murphy taking a nap or chewing on his toy, but instead when he walked in he saw the puppy on top of the couch, ripping apart one of his pillows. "Oh, crap! Murphy, no! Off!" Murphy stopped but simply stared at him. "How'd you even get up there in the first place?" He picked up the small puppy and looked in dismay at his ruined couch pillow. ~This dog is going to make sure I never have any extra replicator credits...~ =^=Soma to Lieutenant Matrix and Ensign O'Neill, report to section 22, level 9, room 212 on the station. Bring engineering kits, detection equipment and adata storage device.=^= Ben said over Eian's combadge. He sighed, and tapped his combadge. "On my way, Sir," he answered, and looked down at the puppy. "I'm glad I bought this fence. You're going to have to learn not to chew up all my stuff. But for now, hopefully this'll keep you out of trouble." He quickly scanned the room and found an optimal corner to set up the small fence in. He put the puppy down in the corner and stuck one end of the fence against one wall and then wrapped it around, creating an area for the puppy to play in, but fencing him in by fastening the other end to the perpendicular wall. "This oughta hold you," he said with a smile. He filled up the water bowl with water and placed the absorption rug and a few toys in the fenced-in area. "Food, water, a place to go to the bathroom, and toys to play with. No reason to rip up the carpeting." He looked at Murphy. "*PLEASE* don't rip up the carpeting. I'll be back, Murphy." Murphy stared at him as he went to grab his engineering kit and add a few items to it. Then as he headed out of his quarters, the puppy whimpered. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Section 22, Level 9, Room 212 - ACEO Ensign Eian O'Neill - Day 2 - 1640) "Reporting as ordered," Eian said as he entered. His eyes immediately fell to the body on the ground. He looked to Ben. "What happened here?" he asked in shock. (reply Soma) Eian nodded. His mind immediately started analyzing what he was seeing around him. Pieces of evidence were being analyzed by Starfleet Officers, and Eian categorized them in his mind. Was the disruption localized to one place in the room or did it appear that more was out of place? Were there defensive wounds on the Captain's hands? Did it seem that anything was missing around the room, or had the computer been accessed? What did the murder weapon do to the Captain--what was the official cause of death? These questions, if answered, could help a profiler narrow down on the suspect list. He snapped back into duty mode, realizing that however much he wanted to profile this event, his job was engineering. "What would you like us to do?" (reply Soma) He nodded again. "Sure, we'll get right on it." (reply Soma) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Murder Scene, Ensign sg Sanok, 1641) When Sanok had completed the scan of Captain Taylor's quarters, he wanted to frown. He also wanted to conduct another scan, but he knew that would reveal the same result as the first scan. He returned to the main room, and when Ben was finished speaking with Captain Salid, he approached his friend. "I have the results of the scan. I found DNA from two people, mostly from the bedroom, but we'll need to check the base database to learn who they are. Other than that, there is nothing. No fibers. No murder weapon. Nothing. If there wasn't a dead body lying in the main room, no one would suspect that there had even been a murder." (reply Soma) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Murder Scene, CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma, 1643) Ben listened as Sanok filled him in on the results of the scan, they hadn't revealed much that would help other then a couple DNA traces that would at least give them some names to start with. It was a starting point at least, more then they had when they first entered the room. Ben considered what his friend had said, if the murderer had taken a little time to tidy up and dispose of the Captain's body and the bloody rug no one would have been any wiser. It would have been as if the Captain just up and disappeared. "See if you can find out who the DNA belongs to, at least we'll have some where to start." Ben said. "If the murderer had been so careful to cover his or her tracks why not go the extra distance and remove the body?" Ben wasn't saying that who ever did it wanted to get caught, but why leave things they way they did? (reply Sanok, any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Murder Scene, Ensign sg Sanok, 1644) Ben said, "See if you can find out who the DNA belongs to. At least we'll have somewhere to start. If the murderer had been so careful to cover his or her tracks, why not go the extra distance and remove the body?" "The victim was the base commanding officer," said Sanok. "That isn't a murder that could go unnoticed. Insuring his or her innocence, was the only priority." Sanok paused for a moment. "I will go to the base security center and try to discover the identity of the DNA donors." Nodding to his, Sanok began leaving the room. (reply Ben iyw) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene - ACEO Ensign Eian O'Neill - Day 2 - 1645) Eian listened to Ben and Sanok's conversation as he worked on taking the door apart and getting scan results from it. He was forming a profile in his head as he collected the information he was hearing from the investigators around him. The cleanliness of the room signified that the offender was not disorganized. But the DNA in the bedroom might indicate a struggle or a sexual act, which could point to a crime of passion. However, despite the large pool of blood, Eian had seen the body and it didn't appear to be overly mutilated. That meant that the act was either interrupted or that the offender's aggression was instrumental, not passionate. The lack of a murder weapon left at the scene and the lack of any apparent destruction around the room pointed to a more sophisticated attacker, and opened the possibility of a gender other than male. Although it wasn't an absolute truth, most very destructive, violent crimes were committed by male members of humanoid species, except in societies where the females were historically dominant. Additionally, crimes of extreme destruction were usually committed only by the same species as the victim. So instead of narrowing down the type of offender, this crime only opened up more possibilities--the lack of destruction and mutilation of the body meant that it could be any species and any gender. But the offender was most likely more mature in his culture, age-wise. He would be the equivalent of late 20s to early 50s in human years. If there was a sexual act, however, there was a chance that the offender was sexually immature or considered himself inadequate. All of this swam around Eian's head as he worked on the door. He kept his ears open for any additional information. (reply any, none required) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Security Office - CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma - 1800) For the second time that day Ben found himself in the stations security office, this time he wasn't there to lock up a few unruly patrons but to try and sort out the events leading up to the Station Commanders murder and then found out who had commited it. The thought that another officer may be responsible didn't sit well with him, this was Starfleet Starbase and not a Klingon ship. One didn't move through the ranks by assassinating thier superiors. He was here to speak with the Stations security chief, there was evidence suggesting she had been in the Captain's quarters recently and he wanted to hear her explaination. Tapping his comm badge he said. "Soma to Chief Adraa, can you meet me in your office." (reply Adraa) "Thank you Chief." Ben said cutting the comm line. He wanted to see what information she had to offer regarding the murder, would she be hostile or would she be helpful. As the stations security chief she know doubt knew who would be capable of comiting murder and possible motives for the Captain's murder. He would have to await her arrival to find out. So far they hadn't found much in the way of evidence, a couple DNA samples gave him a couple names once the donors were identified. He found it strange that the body offered no evidence towards identifying the assailant. How could someone have killed the Captain without leaving something behind, it was apparent that Taylor didn't put up a fight which suggested that it wasn't expected and who ever had done it was close to him. He needed to narrow down a list of suspects as soon as possible, right now everyone on station was a suspect. She too had recently been in the Captain's quarters and he wanted to know why she was there. The clock was ticking and leads were already beginning to get cold, it was possible that the murderer had escaped the station before it was locked down but he hoped that wasn't the case. He hoped that the Doctor could offer him some information regarding the Captain's behavior lately, having seen him on a regular basis she may have noticed differences in his routines, mood changes or even differences in medical scans. right now he's take what ever information that came available from what ever source he could find. He noticed several nurses going about thier daily routines and asked one of them where he could find the CMO, after assuring her he didn't require medical attention the nurse directed him to the CMO's office in the back of the ward. Ben headed in that direction and stopped just outside of the open door, knocked and said. "Doctor Harvey may I speak with you?" "It was fully my intention to have the crew stand down for some much needed rest and relaxation, myself included. As there were also a few scheduled maintenance upgrades and overhauls that were past due as a result of the time jump, I also felt that it was time to move forward with those tasks as well. All in all it should have been a fairly relaxing time." "I don't know who I thought I was kidding. On only our second day aboard station word has reached me of the discovery of the Starbase Commanding officer', Captain Joseph Taylor's, Body. It seems that he was murdered in his quarters which were sealed and required an unorthodox approach in order to gain entry. We have been asked by the Starbase FO, lieutenant Kraal, to handle the investigation under Starfleet Regulation 564. Although I am reluctant to do so, I understand that what Kraal is attempting to convey is that he believes one of the Starbase officers may be responsible for the murder. As such I have assumed command of the investigation and have ordered the Rosenante's full resources to be brought to bear to get to the bottom of this mystery." "I wish, just for once, that we wouldn't find ourselves needed to undertake an operation that was anything more than a simple job. Sometimes I'd like them to be straightforward and without guesswork. I suppose that if they were all like that they'd be boring." "End Log." Smells of exotic dishes from around the quadrant assaulted his nose. Some were pleasant, others were not. He caught the conversation of a waitress and one of her customers. He took his PADD and placed it under his right arm to catch the edge of the conversation. Some people told the most unlikely bits of useful information to their bartenders and waiting staff. ~ Rule 22 A wise man can hear profit in the wind. It doesn't hurt to have Ferengi ears.~ He'd do this at the other Ferengi's bar, but once he found out that Quol did this, he kicked him out. Some thing about patrons expecting to have what happens in the bar stay at the bar. ~Rule 47 Never trust a man who has a better suit then you.~ The next sound Quol heard was a sound no true Ferengi would mistake, the jingle of latinum. ~That fool is leaving a hard cash tip.~ As the patron left and the waitress was away, Quol approached and snatched up the the latinum strips that were intended as the tip with the skill of a practiced performer of prestidigitation and placed them in his pocket. The waitress then noticed him. "Oh, just sit where ever you like, hon. Be with you in a bit." came the sweet voice. Quol smiled and sat in an adjacent table. The waitress came back to bus the table and was visibly distraught with the absence of a tip. Quol picked up on her distress. "What's wrong?" he asked, putting false but convincing concern in his voice. "Well, that guy that just left, we were getting along so well, I though he would have left a tip." she said placing all the dirty dishes on her cleaning cart. "Yes the nerve of some people." he said. "I'm sorry to hear about that, can I get some breakfast? We Ferengi have a saying, 'Never begin a business negotiation on an empty stomach'." "What business negotiation?" she asked. "Oh, I'm a successful Ferengi, my whole day is filled with business." he answered real pride showing through. With the loose ends he tied up recently, he had reason to be proud. "Well mister business man, what would you like for breakfast?" she asked, now smiling a little. ~The ol' Ferengi charm is working.~ "I'm told you have very succulent gree-worms here." he said. "Yes we do, finest on the station." she responded. "That's what I want then. Also I've found I quite enjoy Terran chicken eggs. Do you have those?" he asked almost sweetly. "Of course, how do you take them?" she asked. She took out her order PADD to take notes. "Sunny-side up. Can I also get a side of swine bacon?" he asked. "Of course, so I have gree-worms, two eggs sunny-side up and an order of bacon." she confirmed. "Yes, thank you oh and a raktijino if you will as well? Thank you." he said with a smile. "Hope your day gets better." he said. "Already has." She said and went to bring the dishes to the back. (Reply any in food court) (Posted by Todd) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Food Court - Engineering NCO PO3 Hank Stevens - 0637) Hank had finally managed to get some time off the Rose. In fact Lt Matrix had insisted he take sometime. Hank appreciated the CEO's gesture. He and Emily Graatz were trying to setup the details of their wedding. He supposed he was like most males - more or less oblivious to all the hoopla that goes with a wedding. He loved Emily and wanted he conclusion that what Emily wanted as was what he wanted. To him there was no need to have a big ceremony. But he had come to the conclusion that he was powerless and decided to let Emily have her wishes. They had not determined who would do the actual ceremony. Neither he nor Emily were particularly religious. Stevens wondered if the Captain would consent to perform the ceremony. It was quiet this time of the morning. Hank needed the quiet to think about the upcoming event. Emily had told him that Lt Jackson was really nice when she talked to him earlier. Hank glanced around the area and notioced a Ferengi merchant talking, or most correctly, flirting with the waitress. Hank grinned and watched the pair carry on. With the thumb prints he had collected over the past two days including the ACEO of the Rosenante, Quol could start making some stuff happen. He knew from experience though it was better to wait to do things that were ostentatious or out of the ordinary. Start with something small to see if the codes he obtained were viable. He hacked into the station maintenance list. He used the ACEO biometric reading to sign an order to upgrade the Rose and make her fully holo-capable. For the report's reasoning he added: "To enhance the ranges and usefulness of the EMH and THIS making them usable ship wide." He then removed all traces of his entry into the system. Once he was finished his food had arrived. "Here ya go hon." she said putting the large plate in-front of him. "Thank you." he said and took out his napkin with a flip of his wrist and placed it on his lap. The waitress walked away and Quol Nor picked up his utensils as he tried to figure out where to start. "You look indecisive Quol, let me help you with that!" the pair of brawny arms picked him up before he could get a look at it's source. Pain wracked through his spine as he was slammed against the wall. Quol frantically searched for a way to defend himself as the unstoppable force kept pushing him against the immovable bulk head in a cross collar choke. Then he found it and some how was able to pull it into his palm with his finger tips. As the life was being forced out of him he slammed a small device on the assailant's shoulder and slapped the actuator on his belt. The larger man howled in pain and let Quol go. The Ferengi landed on his feet as he coughed struggling to gain his breath back. He pushed the button again the lager man collapsed to the ground as pain had free reign of his body. "Taste my pain!" Quol croaked through his throat pain. "Little idea I grabbed from somewhere called the Mirror Universe." Quol explained as he gave the man a breather. ~I recognize him. That is the Romulan Captain's Orion lackey.~ "So what brings you here to disrupt my meal?" he asked and actuated the agonize again. The Orion cried out in agony as the little device did it's job. Quol gave him another break and waited for the answer.
