I can liaison with base medical and set one up” "That won't be necessary Doctor, he is being command referred, not medically." she explained. “I see” Kimiko stated “So what happens after the evaluation?” "If he is found fit for duty, he will be demoted and transferred. If found with psychological defect, then he will be transferred farther into the Federation, possibly to Betazed for treatment." Sullivan responded. “Either way, he is off my service” Kimiko replied "That is correct, Doctor, hence removing him from the duty roster." she said. "Are there any other questions doctor?" she asked. (Reply none) (Posted by Jack) ===================================================================== (Starbase 989- USS Rosenante Docked Deck 2 COPS Quarters , LT Tom Jackson 2O/COPS, Day 2, 1207) Tom was sitting in his quarters reading an old earth military history written by a historian named Brice Catton. It was providing a fresh insight to his ancestor Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson. Tom loved reading old earth books. The feel of a book, its bindings, the smell and feel. Reading on a terminal was never a way to savor the meaning of a writer. Laying the book down he let his mind wander. His thoughts landed on the fact that he was in the chain of command now. So far not much had changed. he was trying to setup time with the CO and FO to go over his additional duties but each were tied up. He'd follow Jon Nayati's example as a reference till he could have time with each of those folks. His terminal chimed indicating he had a message. Sighing, Jackson got up and walked to see who needed god knows what now. ~hmm~ he muttered to himself. The message was from Bazon, who was his step dad's chief confident and body guard. Jackson remembered Bazon as utterly devoted to the smaller Ferengi. "Well, well, Pez is here". Jackson said out loud. It must have been several years since the two had met face to face. Seems Pez wanted something from Tom. He had no clue but suspected the ferengi was up to no good as usual. He checked his schedule and did not have a bridge assignment and Lt yalix was handling OPS so Tom sent Bazon a reply that he would be coming to see Pez within the hours if that was acceptable. NRPG: Bazon you can reply if deemed appropriate RPG: Tom made a note on the duty rosters where he had planned on going and for an how long. --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989- Outside Luxury Quarters, Lt Tom Jackson Day 2, 1210) Tom Jackson left his home and entered the starbase. the sights and sounds overwhelmed him. He enjoyed the multitude of races and languages. He was looking forward to seeing his step dad Pez. he activated the entry chime and checked to make sure he had his obligatory piece of latinum as was the custom when arriving at a Ferengi's residence. (reply: any inside) Tom entered and greeted both of his step dad's associates. "Where is the Feregni merchant of note?" Tom asked. (reply: any present) Soon the Ferengi in question appeared. Tom smiled down on his step-dad. "Helo Pez" Tom said. (reply: Pez) (posted by Bill) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989- Luxury Quarters, Ferengi Merchant Pez, Day 2, 1215) Pez looked up from his reports as he heard the door chime sound. The master merchant smiled a sharp-toothed grin and pressed his thumb on the PADD locking it's contents before setting it down on the beautiful hardwood table that sat beside his amazing chaise lounge. Dahlia was already crossing the room and was reaching the door as Bazon stepped into the central room in anticipation of trouble. Dahlia reached out, touched the door controls and the Door slid open to reveal the strong form of Thomas Jackson, dressed in his gold colored Starfleet uniform. ~Why isn't it red yet?~ Pez wondered to himself as Tom entered and Greeted both Bazon and Dahlia. "Where is the Ferengi Merchant of note?" He asked. "He's across the room," Dahlia replied before accepting the customary offer of the latinum strip on the behalf of her master and tutor. "It's good to see you Thomas. I'm glad you came to visit," she said and then stood a little on her toes and kissed him gently on the cheek. (reply Jackson) "I am also pleased to see you are in good health master Jackson," Bazon added. "You look as if you have gained some muscle and finally lost all that baby fat you had as a child." (reply Jackson) Pez couldn't stand the wait any longer and he rose to his feet, in a very uncharacteristic manner and crossed the room in a hurry. His rich robes scraped along the plush carpet setting off a miniature electrical storm along his hemline. He stopped before his adopted son and just took him in for a few moments. "Hello Pez" Tom finally said. Pez smiled, displaying his sharpened teeth with pleasure. He stepped forward turned and started to usher his son into the lush chambers of the quarters, all the while chattering away. "You look healthy Tom." He began, "You must tell me your secrets. I'd bet we could make a fortune on Ferenginar with them." (reply Jackson) "How long have you been in port?" he asked then, "I myself have just arrived, and happened to notice the name of the Rosenante in the docking queue." (reply Rosenante) "I see." Pez nodded thoughtfully as he gestured for his step-son to sit in a comfortable chair. "Dahlia, Tears of Norfolk!" he called as he settled in across from the man before him. "Tell me Tom, How long until you can get out of that dreadful gold uniform? You should be captain by now. Tell me who I have to bribe or kill and I'll see to it that you've your own ship before the year is out." Pez added light-heartedly. (reply Jackson) "well never you mind then." He replied and then smiled as Dahlia arrived with the drinks. She poured them each a glass and then moved off a ways. Pez handed Tom a glass of the light blue alcohol and then picked up his own glass. "To not owing you any money!" he toasted and then took a long draw of his drink. The Ferengi smacked his lips happily before going back to discussing things with Tom. "She's very pretty isn't she, Tom?" He asked, "And smart too. You could do a lot worse than her. I could make a contractual arrangement if you'd like? She could give you oomlots." (reply Jackson) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante Docked Starbase 989- Luxury Quarters, LT Tom Jackson 2O/COPS, Day 2, 1217) Tom smiled as he saw some old friends from his childhood. Dahlia was the first to greet him. "He's across the room," Dahlia replied before accepting the customary offer of the latinum strip on the behalf of her master and tutor. "It's good to see you Thomas. I'm glad you came to visit," she said and then stood a little on her toes and kissed him gently on the cheek. "Thanks Dahlia - your as lovely as ever" Tom replied. SHe was indeed attractive. (reply: Dahlia) Bazon greeted him next with "I am also pleased to see you are in good health master Jackson," Bazon added. "You look as if you have gained some muscle and finally lost all that baby fat you had as a child." Tom flushed a tad despite himself and said "Thanks old friend. Fleet Service seems to agree with me. You are also well. I trust you are taking care of Pez for me?" (reply: Bazon) His eyes softened as his step dad, Pez, came across the room to greet his step-son. Pez smiled, displaying his sharpened teeth with pleasure. He stepped forward turned and started to usher his son into the lush chambers of the quarters, all the while chattering away. "You look healthy Tom." He began, "You must tell me your secrets. I'd bet we could make a fortune on Ferenginar with them." Tom smiled and said "We'd do that for sure Pez. I have been 'promoted' to Second Officer of the Rosenante. A lot more responsibility" Tom added. (reply: Pez) Pez asked him why he wasn't wearing Command Red and offered to get him his own command. Tom looked at the little man. He never knew for sure when Pez was teasing or being serious. "Thanks for the offer but I think it's best to go slowly for now" Jackson replied dodging the question. Pez had the lovely Dahlia bring the two some drinks. Pez had caught Tom eying Dahlia. "She's very pretty isn't she, Tom?" He asked, "And smart too. You could do a lot worse than her. I could make a contractual arrangement if you'd like? She could give you oomlots." Jackson flushed red again and replied "I'll take you up on that Pez" and waited to see what his step-dad would say. Ben responded. After the riot he didn't think that RJ's would have a lot of empty tables that could be filled. There hadn't been many open before the fight and now those that were open were most likely occupied by those patrons who wished to finish what was left of thier meals. The owners were probably offering incentives to keep what customers they had happy. He wasn't familiar with the station and Sanok had only known of RJ's from a chance meeting so they would have to look up another restaurant in the stations directory. "We'll need to look up another restaurant." He said. "You gonna join us Sanok? It'll help you accumulate time on station." (reply Sanok, Eian, any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Security Office, Ensign sg Sanok, 1306) After bringing the four men from the bar fight to the base security center, Sanok, Ben, and Eian, had to fill out reports on the incident. With his usual Vulcan efficiency, Sanok had finished first. While waiting for the others, he noticed that Eian seemed to be irritated at the process. ~If Eian wishes to be in security someday, he will need to adjust his attitude about procedures.~ thought Sanok. When everything was finished, it was suggested that the three try again to have lunch. "We'll need to look up another restaurant," said Ben. "You gonna join us Sanok? It'll help you accumulate time on station." "It seems I am destined to be on this base for the foreseeable future," said Sanok. "Lead on." (reply Ben, Eian, any) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Security Office,CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma, 1308) Ben crossed the security office to a unoccupied terminal and brought up a list of the restaurants on the promenade, there were several to choose from but the nearest one looked the most interesting. A placed called Haven specializing in cuisine from all over the quadrant, noting the directions he walked back to Sanok and Eian. "Seems there's another restaurant a couple hundred feet from RJ's. They specialize in cuisine from all over the quadrant, should be easy finding something there to sink your teeth into." He said. "With a little luck we'll get to eat before anything else happens today." Turning to Eian he said, "I saw your match earlier, didn't look very even. Who considered it would be fair to pair you with someone twice your size and nearly tripple your weight?" They began heading out of the security office in search of Haven. (reply Eian, Sanok, any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - On way to Haven - ACEO Ensign Eian O'Neill - Day 2 - 1310) As they walked, Ben asked, "I saw your match earlier, didn't look very even. Who considered it would be fair to pair you with someone twice your size and nearly tripple your weight?" Eian rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I've heard of blind justice but blind pairing just seems stupid to me. Whoever did that must have taken the 'weight is unimportant' clause extremely literally. But considering his weight, I think I did pretty well. I'm more peeved about the final judgment than the pairing itself. I think they rated me much lower on all accounts than I deserved, but in particular the conduct rating was ridiculous. Chugg practically had a conniption before the match started and they gave him a higher conduct rating than me." (reply Sanok and/or Soma) He frowned. "You know, I heard some others saying they weren't happy with their scores either. Is that common for a match?" (reply Soma) (posted by Morgan G) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - On way to Haven - CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma - 1312) "You know, I heard some others saying they weren't happy with their scores either. Is that common for a match?" Eian asked. Ben considered it for a few seconds trying to formulate an accurate response, it was difficult to put into words. "It is common for combatants to be dissatisfied with certain results, though I have never heard of so many at one tournament. Every tournament is run in a different manner and every panel of judges look for different things when watching a match. I'm my experience I'd say that this panel of judges has been unkind with their scoring." Ben explained. "The last tournament I attended wasn't exactly above bar, there was definitely favoritism shown towards selected competitors. I can only conclude that profit was the driving force behind that particular group. There may be similarities in this case but until we witness more matches for comparison purposes there is little that can be done at this time. We'll just have to grin and bear it as the saying goes." (reply Eian, Sanok, any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989, Promenade, Ensign sg Sanok, 1315) While Ben and O'Neill were talking about the matches, Sanok, still following them on their way to another restaurant, noticed a small storefront. It was dedicated to Vulcan culture and meditation. His curiosity piqued, he decided to go there and not to lunch with the others. "Excuse me," said Sanok. "I am going to that Vulcan store there. You can go to lunch and I will see you later." (reply Ben, Eian) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante-Tournament Floor- CMO, Ens Kimiko Ichijo Day 2, 1528) Kimiko stalked the floor, her medpouch slapping against her hip. In an act of generosity, she volunteered to help out with first aid if anyone needed it, so that she could get closer to the matches and see the different styles of art. Unfortunately, she was too distracted to take any of it in. The demonstration was, in her humble opinion, one of her best. Weaponwork, stance, flow..everything was spot on. ~an 8, I suppose isn't the worst, but full point less than the guy that just barely managed to avoid skewering himself. If I managed to strangle myself, then perhaps I may have gotten a perfect score.~ The match was a nightmare. Apparently, seemed that only one choke was legal and damned if she knew what it was. Meanwhile, golden boy could do no wrong. After five legal hits, the match was his. She gained the single distinction of getting the most debits of anyone that she heard of without being disqualified. Granted, the man that she was sparring against was good and she certainly wouldn’t have wanted to meet him in a dark alley. ~Maybe a dark cabin, yum….Stop it, Kimi~ She should have been able to score on him at least once. Maybe she was getting rusty, the only thing that was close to sparring, that she had done in years, was that bar fight at the Soused Tribble or some such. ~Maybe, I need to sign up for a class~ =^=Ichijo to mat three=^= Kimiko hitched up her pouch and headed over to the mat. She noticed a large group of bystanders had gathered and there was a loud voice cutting across the background noise. “So was the a solid enough hit for you, you son of a fouled pairing of a mud-rat and cockatrice” Shaking her head, Kimiko raised her voice “Medical coming though, make a hole” The crowd parted. The doctor could see two restrained fighters, both seemed to be human. The taller of the two, a blond man seemed to be yelling at the judge. “Never before, have I been in the presence of such a dropping of dung, like yourselves” The man was literally foaming at the mouth. “I will have the end of you” Kimiko moved over to the injured man who was half-heartedly trying to get free of his captors. She ran a tricorder over man. ~one broken rib, three fractured and a small pneumothorax from a punctured lung~ Kimiko stated almost casually. “If you keep moving, it is only going to hurt more. You need to be treated now” From behind her “Don’t interfere with our match, I have not been declared winner yet” Kimiko turned at looked incredulously at the man pinned between to security officers “Won?!, you came close to killing him” she looked in exasperation at the security officers “get him out of here” Kimiko turned to the injured man “Mister…..” “Dearing” the man supplied “Well Mr Dearing, you have some injuries that would be best taken care of in sickbay” “Not interested” The man said abruptly “Got a doctor of my own, that I trust a lot more than anyone here.” “So you are declining treatment?” Kimiko asked “Not a bright one, are you” the man sneered “I’m not letting anyone from here put their hands on me” “I see” Kimiko stated “are you a member of Starfleet?” “No” “I guess you have the right to refuse treatment, no matter how silly that may be in this case. However your participation in this event has ended, as you are no longer cleared to engage in any activity that may result in physical contact.” Kimiko said coolly “Please leave the floor.” The man coughed and muttered something, most likely offensive, and walked towards the exit. ~Idiot~ The doctor looked at the other medic on duty “I’ll be back shortly, I have someone who may need saving from himself” --------------------------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Corridor- CMO, Ens Kimiko Ichijo Day 2, 1537) The doctor stood about five meter away from the man as he leaned against the wall. “Why are you following me?” Dearing gasped “I’m not following you; I’m going to ..wherever this corridor leads and if, say, I happen to come across a unconscious person, then, well I’ll do my job.” “I’m fine, now go away.” the man growled. “OK” Kimiko replied and smiled, but didn’t move The man glared at her and started down the corridor, Kimiko shrugged, clasped her hands behind her back and followed. “I am aware that sometimes people need to put up masks to show everyone that they are tough and can shrug off minor injuries, but now you are just being stupid” Kimiko stated to his back “do you know what the term ‘unconscious’ means? It means that your brain, starved for oxygen, turns off the rest of the body to try to preserve itself, it also means that your brain cells start to die; obviously, not very important, since you are not using them” Dearing turned to look at her “You are not going to go away, are you?” “Nope. My day off and I have nowhere to be.” Kimiko replied “There is a civilian medical facility” Kimiko consulted her PADD “only one hundred, twenty meters away, then you can be rid of me, or you can go to your ship, the docking ring is only… wow, pretty far away. At this rate you keep taking breaks, you will have the pleasure of my company until tomorrow afternoon.” “Fine then, the clinic” the man returned (Reply any) (Posted by Jack) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Star base 989 - Underside – Combat Nurse – E’Mpakv- Day 2- 1549) "The Bloodwine is on me." E’Mpak turned to the patron who had taken a seat beside her. "Excuse me warrior." Dabron said. "I mean no disrespect, but did I hear you say that you were the daughter of P'Ukway?" She looked at Dabron with a hard stare. “Yes it is. What is it to do with you?” "Well!" "I salute you. I met your father once, while he was a commander of a Bird of Prey operating on the Breen Frontier. I have never seen a Klingon Warrior more honorable and brave. He saved my life once, and as a result I would like to offer you my appreciation in honor of his skill." E’Mpak thought for a moment. Her father had been command of a Bird of Pray operating on the Breen Frontier so his story could have been true but she was not naïve enough to believe it out of hand. Her house like many others had enemies, enemies who would pay handsomely to have her captured for ransom. It was a free drink after all and she had watched the bartender carefully as he had pore it to make sure nothing ‘extra’ had been added. “Thank you Mr…..” (Reply Dabron) “Thank you Mr Moa.” She took the blood wine and down half of it right away before looking back at Dabron. “So Mr Moa what brings a gentleman like you to Star base 989?” She was interested in the kind of answer she would get. "It is agreeable to see you again Lieutenant Masters." she said not really answering the question. Doug grinned taking it in stride. Some how he already knew the answer. "I was thinking, I'm not assigned to a vessel yet, and I'm going to need something to fill my non-duty hours." "I too have a sudden abundance of free time on my hands." she said. "Well, how about dinner tonight then?" Doug threw it out there. "It's not going to be one of those 'burger joints'? Is that what you called it back at the academy?" she asked. The disgust at the type of food was obvious. "I got you the veggie burger." Doug said innocently. He really didn't know. "You really don't know alot about Vulcans do you?" she said. Doug looked dumb-founded. "I have some holodeck time reserved, 1700, the Rose's Holodeck 2. You arrive and if you do well enough, I'll agree to dinner and one lesson in Vulcan cuisine." she offered. ~ What's the angle?~ Slightly reluctant, Doug agreed. To avoid any more problems with their customers, they had taken him to their back office. "Just tell me one thing before we continue, Ensign Vulcan," said Jack. "Was starting a fight in our restaurant, part of Vulcans having fun in their own way?" "Jack! Come on," said Rupert. "That isn't fair. He saw someone commit a crime, and did his duty." Jack wrinkled his nose and leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest. "What did you need, Ensign Sanok?" said Rupert. "I was wondering if you knew any of the men that were involved in the fight," said Sanok. "Yes, we've seen them all before," said Rupert. "They come in to the restaurant a couple of times a week. They're usually together, but not always all four of them." "Have you had problems with theft?" said Sanok. "One of them was a pickpocket. Perhaps they were running something here, or setting up something." "I wouldn't say it was a problem," said Rupert. "There were a few times, but nothing that would cause us to be concerned that something organized was happening." "Do you know why the men decided to engage in a fight with Starfleet officers? The three men were unknown to us. They could have stayed where they were and only their friend would have been arrested," said Sanok. Rupert looked at Jack, who was still sitting with his arms crossed. Jack shrugged his shoulders. "No, we don't know why they would fight you," said Rupert. "Perhaps they had been drinking? We do serve real alcohol." "Perhaps," said Sanok. "How are things here on the station?" "What do you mean, Ensign?" asked Rupert. "Are things run according to regulation?" said Sanok. "Is there an organized criminal element beneath the surface of the Starfleet presence?" Rupert chuckled. "Of course there's a criminal element here. There's crime everywhere, even though Starfleet and the Federation want everything to be Paradise. It isn't anything overwhelming. Station security does its job." He glanced at Jack again. This time, his partner had a cold expression on his face. "I don't know what else to tell you." The Vulcan officer sat silently. His expressionless face and the look in his eyes, made Rupert feel nervous. "Is there anything else, Ensign?" said Rupert. "Then why was a starship security officer called to investigate a murder on the base?" said Jack. Rupert had thought of that. Why, indeed? "Get a hold of Simmons. See what you can find out." "Okay." Then you will understand what I mean when I say that the Rosenante's chief of security and Rosenante personnel will be conducting the investigation of the murder going forward." "Understood Sir." Evan replied feeling a little relieved that someone else would be heading up the investigation and he could move on to something else, he like working in security but sometimes things were too much for him and murder feel into that category. "My chief of security, Lieutenant Soma, is on his way here presently. I would like for you and your men, " Ahmed gestured towards those standing nearby, "To make themselves available for interviews to help us establish the facts. I also think you showed a great deal of initiative and creativity in gaining access to the Captain's quarters, so I'd like to request that you remain active on the investigation. However if you feel that this would be a conflict of interests or that you are too close to this investigation I can understand that." Evan beamed at the praise the Rosenante's Captain had offered, he was expecting the worse and was pleased with himself. However, the request that he remain active on the investigation was unexpected. With the arrival of the Rosenante's chief of security he thought he would be clear, he would cooperate with the Rosenante's crew and to ensure his coworkers fell in line he would remain active as requested. "You have my word that everyone will cooperate with you security chief Sir." Evan replied. "I don't feel it would be a conflict of interest for me to remain active with the investigation, I didn't know the Captain as well as I could have." He watched as the team scattered to carry out their orders and headed straight to the Captain's cabin. Stepping inside he noticed Captain Saild speaking with one of the stations security officers and decided not to bother either of them for the time being. He crossed to stand over the body of Captain Taylor and noticed the drying blood pool as well as the broken glass around the body, it could have been the result of a struggle or simply knocked over when Taylor fell. Everything thing else in the room was undisturbed so it appeared for the moment robbery was not a motive, this had been personal. Bending down for a closer look he was surprised to see there was no evidence of a struggle, no smudges on the captains uniform, no bruises or abrasions on any of the exposed skin and no scuff marks on the Captains shoes. ~Strange~ Ben thought. ~How is it someone murdered the Captain and he didn't put up a fight~ Grabbing the tricorder he had been handed by one of the Rosenante's officers he began scanning the body for any signs of foreign DNA or anything else that may shed some light on who did this. To his surprise the scan didn't pick up anything of use. The only DNA present was the Captain's and there was no foreign material of any kind. Hopefully the security logs would be more helpful. Glancing around he noticed that the Captain's conversation was drawing to an end, standing he moved towards him and stopped a couple steps short and said. "Captain." The news had hit her like a ton of latinum bricks; a bittersweet justification and a terrible loss. Her hands started to tremble for a few moments and Dale Alcott, the security officer that had delivered the news to her a few minutes earlier just stood staring at her. "Serves the bastard right." she finally managed despite the emotional pain of the moment. "That will teach him to cheat on me." Alcott stared at her for a little while longer before he eventually replied. "Look chief, I didn't like him either, but if I were you, I'd be very careful what you say for a little while. I mean hell..." he reached up and rubbed the back of his neck with his left hand. "There are plenty of rumors running around at the moment that you actually killed him." Ardaa's eyes shot upwards, resolving themselves into two hardened black coals of anger. They didn't waver, but seemed to bore their way through Alcott's skull. There was a silent challenge there, one that rocked the junior officer to his very core. "Relax Dale, I didn't ice the old man," she said easily, "no matter how much I despised the pompous little pr**k." Dale gave a single nod, and allowed his eyes to drop to the floor for a few seconds. "You think it was a deal gone south?" he asked quietly, "I mean do you think someone killed him because of his other dealings?" Ardaa shrugged. "Hard to tell with Joseph." she replied, "He was always looking for ways to make a few extra credits, or to build up his influence. It's possible that he pushed one of the Ferengi too far, or maybe one of his Orion contacts." "And then there's that Romulan" Dale added. "Yeah, then there's the Romulans." Ardaa echoed. "Either way, it should be a quick investigation. I'll just send someone down to put together a report and we'll wrap this investigation up inside a day or two." Dale seemed surprised for some reason, he just stared at her. "What?" she finally asked him. "I guess you haven't heard." Dale replied meekly. "Heard what?" she asked as a sense of dread began to form in the back of her brain. "Krawl has called in some help on this one." "What kind of help?" Ardaa asked knowing she was going to regret the answer. "A starship Captain named Salid. He's taken over the investigation. He's cited some regs and has assigned his own crew to the task." Dale said nervously. "Salid? I don't think I know the name. can't be anyone of consequence." "That's what I thought too, but I managed to get access to his Starfleet record. He's an engineer, or was. Was assigned to the Nimitz, then the Champlain and then the Hypatia, before moving to the Rosenante. He made captain shortly after the civil war." "That's not so surprising lots of captains were made after the war." Ardaa stated. "Yeah I know, but that's not all. He's something of an idealist, even in Starfleet circles. The guys testified at a handful of trials for people that had been on the other side. His father was a war hero, saved a lot of people at the battle of Cardassia." "Sooo?" Ardaa asked impatiently, "there's nothing there that says he's some super investigator or anything." "True," Dale conceded, "But I get the feeling that he's tenacious, and I've been looking over the dossiers of his crew." "Okay.... And?" "And he's got quite a collection of top officers. Almost all vets of the war, and most decorated for valor in some way. But most interestingly..." Dale paused for a moment, "most interestingly, His chief Operations officer is Thomas Jackson, who just so happens to be the step son of Pez." "Sh*t!" Ardaa swore. Dale nodded. "Yeah and Salid and Jackson graduated the academy together and get this, Salid knew Joe Taylor." "How did they know each other?" Ardaa asked. "They were on the Academy boxing team together. They were sparring partners and it seems good friends. Joe mentioned him in several of his personal logs, although nothing very recent." Dale advised. "Who's in charge of the investigation directly." she asked then. "Ben Soma, Lieutenant. Chief Security and Tactical Officer of the Rosenante." "Soma?" Ardaa said as she worked the word around in her mouth as if she were tasting it. "Where do I know that name from?" "He was one of the ones that Rupert mentioned. One of the ones that arrested Hasley at RJs." "Ah, I see." Ardaa said with a brief nod of her head. "I can now understand why you think there will be trouble." Dale just regarded her for a moment before replying, "I knew you would. What do you want to do about it?" Ardaa thought for a few moments and smiled. "Double our men on Pez, when he moves I want to have him completely covered. I want to know why he's here exactly. if his stepson shows up, I want him trailed as long as he's on the station." "Okay." Dale said. "What about Soma and Salid. "We watch for now. I want to know who killed Taylor and why. Then I want whatever it was that they were after. Send a message to Qual Nor. "Tell him I'm coming to visit once I've checked in with the investigator." Dale nodded. (reply none) Daniel Greene --------------------------------------------------------------------- SB 989, Murder Scene, Ensign sg Sanok, 1633) While Sanok had traveled through the station to reach the scene of the murder, whoever it was that was killed, he thought back to the time he and Ben were on Axtis III for a martial arts tournament, that ended up being a murder investigation. Someone said that history repeats itself, and they were certainly correct. Sanok was also wondering who the victim was that caused security from the Rosenante to head the investigation. Perhaps it was the base Chief of Security. Sanok also thought about his talk with Rupert and Jack. He couldn't tell what, but there was something they weren't telling him. Perhaps he would find the time to look into them more, though the murder investigation would take precedence. He found it to be ironic that he wanted to spend this leave time on the Rosenante. Once inside the actual place of the murder, Sanok saw Captain Salid and Ben engaged in a conversation. Moving through the bevy of activity, he joined them, standing just off to the side, his hands clasped behind his back. (reply Salid, Soma, any) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB 989, Murder Scene, CTAC/SEC Lt. jg Ben Soma, 1634) Ben heard footsteps approaching him and Captain Salid, they were even and never faltered. Considering what the individual had just walked into the footsteps could only belong to one person, Sanok. Turning slightly he wasn't surprised to find his assumption had been correct. Most people would have stopped, slowed their pace or even quickened them to get past the sight of Taylor's body. Now doubt his friend was having the same sense of deja vu he was having, it was almost like Axtis III all over again. Shore leave, martial arts tournament and a murder, if others wouldn't think he was loosing his mind he would have laughed at the similarities. Sanok came to stand beside him with his arms crossed behind his back, shore leave had ended and duty had found them once again. "I scanned Captain Taylor and found no evidence of his assailant on or near him, it appears the vase was broken during his fall." Ben said. Then he added so only Sanok would hear. "I'd like you to scan the room, see if there's any evidence of who ever did this. Nothing against the stations security officers but I'd feel better if someone I trusted was running the scan." (reply Sanok, any) (posted by Milo Young) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (SB 989, Murder Scene, Ensign sg Sanok, 1635) Sanok stood quietly while Ben gave a report to Captain Salid. "I scanned Captain Taylor and found no evidence of his assailant on or near him. It appears the vase was broken during his fall." Sanok raised an eyebrow. The person murdered was the base commanding officer, Captain Taylor. No wonder security from the Rosenante would be handling the investigation. Turning to Sanok, Ben said, "I'd like you to scan the room. See if there's any evidence of whoever did this. Nothing against the station's security officers, but I'd feel better if someone I trusted was running the scan." "Yes, sir," said Sanok with a nod. "Captain." As he walked away, Sanok realized how odd it was to him to refer to his friend as, sir. They were on duty, so it was proper and fitting to do so, especially in the presence of the captain. There was a base security officer standing off to the side, so Sanok approached him. "I am Ensign Sanok from the Rosenante. I will need to use your tricorder, please." "I already scanned the room," said the officer. "Even so, I still require your tricorder," said Sanok. The man frowned, then reluctantly handed over the tricorder. "Thank you, Ensign..." said Sanok, his voice trailing off. "Simmons. Ensign Carl Simmons." "That will be all, Ensign Simmons." Simmons sighed. Apparently, he was not happy about this at all. Without a word, he left the room. Sanok began to carefully and meticulously scan the quarters of Captain Taylor. (reply Salid, Soma, any) (posted by Bob) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (Starbase 989 - Murder Scene, CO Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid, Day 2- 1636) "You have my word that everyone will cooperate with you security chief Sir." Evan replied. "I don't feel it would be a conflict of interest for me to remain active with the investigation, I didn't know the Captain as well as I could have." Ahmed smiled, "Very well Mister Dunphy, I'll see to it that Mister Soma keeps you involved. We could use a local to help us unravel the politics and the intrigues on this station." (reply Dunphy) "If you would be kind enough to standby for a little while longer, Mister Dunphy, I need to speak with my Chief of Security. If you'll excuse me." (reply Dunphy) Ahmed stepped away from the eager and apparently capable security officer and stepped into the actual crime scene. He stood just a few feet inside the doorway and just allowed his eyes to sweep over the compartment. He could see easily enough the disturbed materials that had happened as a result of the initial arrival team. The crime scene was already contaminated, but not enough to be so destructive that they wouldn't be able to find something to go with. ~So what were you doing that got you killed Joseph?~ Ahmed asked himself. ~Who did you cross and how?~ There was the sound of transporters and Ahmed noted with pleasure that they were security officers from the Rosenante. It seemed as if they understood already what the situation was and they spread out to relieve the station's native detail from their watch, although they didn't dismiss them. ~very good.~ Ahmed noted and then he spotted Soma. The chief had already managed to get into the scene and was conducting some scans with a tricorder. It didn't take long for the Chief to notice him and head his way. "Captain." he said as acknowledgment. "As you were Mister Soma." Ahmed said. "I scanned Captain Taylor and found no evidence of his assailant on or near him, it appears the vase was broken during his fall." Ben said. Ahmed nodded and took a step forward. He leaned down near one of the shards of glass that had been buried under the body. He took a big sniff and frowned slightly before standing back up. "Unless Captain Taylor took to drinking his Maker's Mark Whiskey from a vase lieutenant, I submit to you that the broken class is from a broken tumbler glass. The other matching three are on the wet bar there." Ahmed nodded towards the bar. Sanok, another of the Rosenante's security officers joined them and Ahmed noticed the slightly raised eyebrow that seemed universally Vulcan. Soma turned to the Vulcan and said, "I'd like you to scan the room, see if there's any evidence of who ever did this. Nothing against the stations security officers but I'd feel better if someone I trusted was running the scan." "Yes, sir," said Sanok with a nod. "Captain." Ahmed returned the nod and the Vulcan officer went about collecting his data. "Ben, let me be straight forward with you." Ahmed began as he placed his hand on the lieutenant's shoulder as a means to guide him away from the majority of prying ears. "It's obviously murder, and Ensign Dunphy over there," Ahmed gestured to the waiting station officer, "stated that he had to do some pretty fancy interpretive engineering just to gain access to the compartment. That tells me two things. First is that Taylor had to use his Captains Security overrides to lock the door to his quarters and the second is that whomever killed him wanted him dead very badly." Ahmed continued, "I suspect that you won't find much of use in the security logs, as they will either be cleared or they will be missing, that would make the Security Chief suspect right away, but consider that it could have been any of the officers on this station that could be responsible." "I knew Joe in the Academy, we graduated together, He had a gray moral compass sometimes. He barely passed his ethics courses for commissioning, so I have no doubt that he did something that he shouldn't have done. That said, that means that he was probably into some shady dealings with maybe the Ferengi or the Orions. Couple that with the mans womanizing and manipulative ways and you can see how complex this is going to be." "You'll need to interview anyone that you think might be involved in this in any way. We need solid evidence, so work on your three M's: Means, Motive and Method. Understood?" (reply Soma) Ahmed considered the very limited amount of information that he had right now and sighed. He only hoped that Soma and his team could make heads or tails of things. "I want you to get engineering involved. Have Matrix and O'Neill work on the door scenario. I want confirmation of Dunphy's entry as well as a thorough search of the quarters for unexpected devices, alien relics or anything else of interest. I want the body under guard at all times, until it is safely aboard the ship. I want to know who comes, who goes and the when's and why's of it." (reply Soma) "Where the hell is Ichijo?" he asked after a moment.
