I have someone in the hotel ready to aid us if needed." Habrii's eyes narrowed a bit as he considered the statement. It was something that he might not care for, but sometimes sabotage and even violence was necessary. "Have them prepared to fulfill their role. We should not do anything that can misconstrued as an attack of violence. But is a critical breach of their security or other critical system should fail…" He replied purposefully allowing the sentence to fade out. "Is there anything else?" She asked him. "No, I think that we have everything well enough in hand. This is a delicate game, and one that must be played carefully." He replied. She turned to leave and then stopped for a moment. "Is there something else bothering you Alaya?" he asked, seeing her hesitation. Turning back, Alaya responded, "What do we do if they send people to the surface? Most likely they will land at the hotel, especially since that ape of an owner has made it abundantly clear that she will not acquiesce to our demands." "The owner is of little consequence to us. If the Federation sends people to the surface, we will make a decision then. There are too many variables at play to make such an important decision now. But rest assured, they will be forced to deal with us on a political level." Nodding, Alaya turned on her heels and strode purposefully out of the office. --------------- (Beta Aquillia IV, Main Government Compound, Habrii's Office, Habrii- Day 2, 2138) Habrii had been listening to the Federation captain's bravado. he was a brave and strong man, no doubt. Almost all Starfleet Captains were arrogant and powerfully motivated people. Habrii would find the Federation Captain someone complex to deal with, but not impossible. The Comm channel on his desk top chirped and Alaya's voice sounded format he device. =^=Sir, did you hear the message?=^= "I did, Alaya." Habrii replied as he pressed the intercom button. "What do we do?" "We allow the Federation to land and we do not attack them. Instead, if they follow their procedures, they will establish a refugee area. We will need to have people infiltrate that area and be prepared for further action. When the time comes, we will destroy them from the inside, much as a Hargoth work eats it's opponents entrails. He listened carefully, as he was going to be setting up CENTCOM shortly and he would need to know what the first priorities would be. After their initial conversation, Soma addressed Eian. "Mr. O'Neill," he said, "I want a structural analysis of the station, how much of a pounding can it take and where are the safest areas." Eian nodded. Even though he and Caskie would be setting up CENTCOM, he was an engineer and therefore qualified to identify where the refugee center and CENTCOM would go. He and Davis would most likely have to take off within a few hours to determine the best locations for sites Beta and Charlie. For now, though, he said to Soma, "I'll start my assessment and report back to you immediately, Sir, with my suggestions as to where we should establish safe areas." Two of the cargo straps snapped and pushed one of the packs into the bulkhead smashing the shelter support rods and tearing a rather large hole on the folded edge. Matrix started an inspection when Soma ordered them to setting up. "Mr. Davis, Mr. Matrix start breaking out the shelters." Ben said. "Find the most stable location to set them up, have Xim help you." "Ben…we lost one during the decent. I don't think its salvageable, but we might be able to use it for materials. We'll set up the rest of them in there and there." replied Matrix as he pointed out where he was thinking. (Reply Soma, Davis) "Okay…I want the damaged shelter unfolded and set up here. She knew that the Federation where in there, talking to the damn hotel owner and trying to work out a way to get the refugees off the planet. She was frustrated and angry that they hadn't made moves to talk to them since the broadcast from the ship in orbit. She also knew that Habrii wanted to talk to them but the time for talking was over. Walking back into the comfort of her room below deck, she activated the Comm and contacted her afiliate in the hotel, Cela. “Cela, the time has now come for action.” “I agree. The federation are here.” Taking a breath, she replied, “Then we must put our plan into action. You know what you have to do.” Therre was a pause and then, “But Maam, does Habrii know?” Closing her eyes, Alaya groaned and said, “No and it is better for him that he doesn't. To borrow a phrase from the Apes, Plauable deniability.” “Then I will begin.” “I will order the flotilla to begin firing. Use the time wisely and take out that Water purification plant.” “For the Veil.” Alaya nodded and sighed, “Always. Good luck.” Waiting a few moments to allow the loyal Cela a chance to complete her mission, Alaya leant forward and activated the Comm again and said, “Atlantis Station. This is Lt Alaya. I want to speak to the person in charge of those interefering Starfleet officers that we know are there.” (Reply Soma) Hearing the man's voice, she said, “Our glorious leader, Habrii, wishes to speak with you.” (Reply Soma) A small laugh escaped her lips as she said, “Oh no. The pallets were designed to withstand a fair amount of abuse especially from an orbital decent, but misfortune managed to damage one and that didn't help matters. Everything they brought was critical to the mission. The last of the pallets rolled off the shuttle and twisted slightly snagging the ramp and dumped itself nearly out of its neat bundle. Matrix was visibly upset, but didn't say anything. The unloading crew knew the expression and kept working, almost ignoring Steve's temperament. It was the best thing they could do and they knew their jobs. Quick work was made of the twisted cargo and it was wished off to its designated site. Within minutes the main structure was unfolded and the shelter began to take shape. Matrix entered the second shelter to inspect it. The internal lighting was completely operational and the internal configuration was nearly complete. ~This will do nicely.~ thought Matrix. "Very good crewman…be sure to inspect the roof…we don't want any weather inside." he shouted as he exited and began to walk to the next shelter. He approached Ben Soma and decided to check in. "Ben, all but the first shelter has been set up. We managed to destroy one on the decent…I've asked my crew if they can make repairs…one side of the roof was ripped open. So far everything else is looking good. Supplies are being staged." said Matrix as he looked around and noticed how dark it was out. (Reply Soma) "I'm getting that gut feeling again…I don't like this…I feel like we're sitting ducks here." said Matrix. (Reply Soma) "Last I heard the sentries were razor thin." replied Matrix. The young man in charge stood talking to the hotel owner. ~This allows me time.~ she thought to herself and with that, she left the main lobby of the hotel and returned to her room. Picking up the small padd that she had stored the weapon she had created, she left the room. Passing a number of the hotel security patrols on the way to her destination caused her a little worry but she met each of them with a smile. They all knew her and, as far as they knew, she was on their side. Reaching the small computer room, Cela checked the the corridor and saw no-one. Quietly, she entered and sat down at the console, placing the padd on the desk and uploaded the virus. The simple computer programme that would allow her to take control of the purification system and close it down completely. She knew that, after this last barrage, that Alaya would contact the officer in charge and she knew that she could not be found here when that happened. Watching the Padd as the virus was uploaded, she smiled as it beeped to confirm the transfer was complete. Leaving the room, she made it back to her own room without any trouble and placed the Padd in it's hiding place. Cela would wait for the call and then shut down the system. He approached Soma with a PADD summarizing his findings. "Sir," he alerted Soma to his presence, "I have results as to the safest locations of the station and the most vulnerable areas of the structure. It seems that these two locations would be the best areas for CENTCOM and for the refugee center. This dividing wall can be soundproofed to secure CENTCOM from anyone in the refugee center and they're close enough to each other to provide the same sheltering effect should we have to construct emergency shields to protect the area. Also, I've identified several areas to establish safehouses, where we can gather between 25 and 50 people in the event of a direct attack on the station. These areas," he pointed to the schematic on the PADD, "Are the most vulnerable and I actually recommend evacuating all civilian presence from them immediately. In the event of an attack, I think they would collapse and create a scenario where people could be trapped without rescue access for several hours." (reply Soma iyw) "With these recommendations, Sir, I'd like to set up CENTCOM and share this information with Counselor Davis so he can set up the refugee camp. We can move them on later when the camps are set up. I don't think we will find any seriously wounded people in this hotel otherwise Miss McNulty would have already informed us, but if you do find someone, don't linger. Tag them, call their position in and then move on. You're not going to be able to help that person by staying but you could help someone else by moving on." "Head wounds are tricky and if you aren't sure it's better to err on the side of caution rather than ignore it. His teams were already in motion, and his ship was as prepared as he could make it, considering the situation. His eyes ached somewhat, a likely result of the eye strain caused by the constant attention to data flowing over a display screen, no doubt. Ahmed replicated himself a salad and some fruit juice for dinner, and settled into the chair at his small dining table. He placed a PADD on the table before him and continued to read the data that was coming in even while he ate. About halfway through the sparse meal, his PADD sounded with an indication that he had a new message waiting for him. With a sigh, he flipped over to the newest addition and noted with a sense of appreciation that it was the proposal put forth by Lanista concerning her sensor probe. Her work was sound, and it could be handled with relative ease, although the ship's manpower was stretched thin already due to the enormousness of the task that they had been handed by Starfleet. Upon completing a review of the data, Salid authorized the project to move forward with a single phrase. Josh kept the rations but handed the coffee back. "Maybe just a cup of water then if you don't mind." She watched as one of the people at the station huffed whilst he recycled her coffee and gave her a cup of water in exchange. Josh, saying nothing, merely memorised his face for later and taking her rations and her rather skimpy cup of water made her way to Cencomm. It appeared that the crew and officers from the Rosenante had moved with precision and had made excellent progress securing the secured-area. They were still working on processing the people that were inside the secured zone when it had been established, as well as working to maintain a viable perimeter. Matrix and his engineering teams were instrumental in setting up mobile shield emitters to create a physical barrier needed to help maintain a secure perimeter. From the moment that the area was secured, refugees of all sorts had poured into the area. during the early stages, some of them may very well have managed to get past the checkpoints without being documented. It was likely that Veil operatives were among them. The Centcomm center on the station was up and operational, it's capabilities being expanded. It's effectiveness had already proven invaluable as more and more Rosenante personnel were transported down to the surface to man the security checkpoints, medical triage centers, refugee camps and every other aspect of the mission that they could. The corridors of the rosenante were somewhat empty as the majority of the crew had been reassigned to the planet's surface. A crew slightly larger than a skeleton crew was all that remained aboard. Ahmed glanced up at the chronograph as he finished off the last gulp of his turkish coffee. He placed the small cup on the saucer at his desk and positioned his PADD next to it. Like pure-blooded Vulcans, Lanista could go for days without food, water, or sleep. While she did not like to abstain from such activities, she never could sleep much longer than five hours a night. She had used her early morning productively – apart from a brief diversion with her kal-toh brain teaser. Lani’ had dabble with the Vulcan ‘toy’ only long enough to discover that jengSI’, her predatory parrot, had eaten a few of the pieces. This was a simple matter to fix, though. Parts could be replaced by replication, and the bird could digest the individual t’an or playing rods. After addressing the minor issue, tlha’nISta’ turned her attention to potential dietary restrictions. Starfleet had extensive files on the matter already, but Lani’ had personal experience in this area. Her hybrid physiology had resulted in several unforeseen conditions – such as her great size and proportionate strength. The genes that regulated growth are contributed by the female in Klingons but by the male in Vulcans. Since Lanista's parentage was the opposite of this, her growth had be regulated artificially – whether by careful dietary regimen or by medical intervention. Lani’ preferred to watch what she ate rather than see Doctors. Sulang, the butcher, had killed tlha’nISta’’s mother. She had never forgiven him for that. It had been a long hard night, she understood now it was the training that she had as Lily that allowed her to shrug off the coming exhaustion that a lack of sleep normally came with. Jessica was monitoring the captured Veil ships when the call came for her to report to the Captain's Ready Room. Not wanting to keep the captain waiting. Jessica eagerly stood from her console and asked for another security officer to come and relieve her. Once relieved she crossed the small space that lead from the bridge to Captain's Ready Room. She pushed the button to announce her presence. When the door opened Jessica entered. "Ensign Signos reporting as ordered Sir." Jessica spoke, has she came to the captain's desk, stood and waited further orders. A few minutes later the door opened again and what appeared like a large Klingon woman entered and spoke without preamble. "You rang.” Jessica turned to the woman smiled and nodded in greeting. (reply Salid, Frasier, Lani) (posted by Matthew Locke) --------------- (USS Rosenante – Ready Room - CSO, LT tlha'nISta' - Day 3- 0838) “You rang,” Lani’ said, as she entered the CO’s ‘office.’ (Reply CO) (Posted by Frank) --------------- (USS Rosenante – Ready Room – ACMO Lt Jg Tayla Fraiser - Day 3- 0840) Walking in, she stopped and noted the others were there before her. Walking to the other side of the rather large klingon, she said, “Reporting as ordered, Sir.” Stealing a sideways glance at Signos, she returned her gaze to Salid and waited for him to speak. (Reply Salid, Any) (Posted by Jackie Smith) --------------- (USS Rosenante - Ready Room- CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid- Day 3- 0850) One all three of the summoned officers arrived, Ahmed wasted no time in getting directly to the point of the meeting. "Thank you all for coming so promptly." He began. "I have agreed to meet with Ambassador Dralar and his staff at 0920. I'd like for you three to be present. The ambassador as you may know is a normally assigned member of the Rosenante's crew, but was placed on temporary leave to handle some business for his government. Apparently his duties have brought him here." "I am going to discuss with him the need to have Skorr fighters running support operations for our people on the ground, as well as try to discern their intentions plans and strategies as we can." "I want you there to make yourselves known to the ambassador, to observe and to pose any questions or concerns that you may have. I especially want your impressions. The Skorr are a very military-oriented species and they are more likely to declare full-scale war than negotiate. I want you to see if there's any way we can asset them, covertly in their mission, and I want you three to consider putting together a plan to take control of the Aquillian dry dock orbiting the planet. I received intelligence about a half an hour ago that Veil engineers have pulled one of the antimatter reactors from one of the freighters and are working to weaponize it. With this new threat I see no choice but to seize the facility, secure the remaining freighters and secure the antimatter pods before they become a deployable weapon. The dry dock has raised shields, and I'd like to find a way in that doesn't involve blasting our way through. We need this to be a casualty free operation. Any Aquillians that are captured will be shifted planet side for holding." "I want you three to work on the scenario and be prepared to implement it. You will have to do so with a limited amount of resources." "Mister Signos, I want you to escort the ambassador to the observation lounge when he arrives." (reply Signos) "Mister Lanista, how is the sensor net coming?" (reply Lanista) "Good keep up the excellent work." Mister Fraiser, I will need you to accompany the assault team. I need a qualified Doctor on the team. We need to do every thing to limit body count." (reply Fraiser) "Any questions?" (reply Lanista, Fraiser, Signos) Daniel Greene --------------- (USS Rosenante - Ready Room- CSO, Lt. tlha’nISta’ - Day 3 - 0854) Of all present, tlha’nISta’ was perhaps the only officer in the Ready Room actually unaware Dralar had been a member of the Rosenante’s crew. She had had no prior dealings with the winged Ambassador, and no reason to look into his personnel file. Lani’ did, however, look forward to a time when the avian would return to the vessel. Dralar was, to all present appearances, a like-minded soul. Even some of the Skorr’s immediate circumstances paralleled Lani’s own: temporarily on leave to handle affairs at home. Duties that called him back to the Starfleet. Dralar’s grandiose arrival and posture of bravado was even similar to Lani’s coming to the Rose and her stance while so doing. That the Captain wanted to discuss utilization of Skorr fighters could be construed as being built on planning to make use of tlha’nISta’’s maQmIgh. It was logical, however, to use more and better craft than just Lani’s single K-Fighter. Salid wanted questions asked during, and impressions communicated after, the pending meeting with this feathered diplomat. The CO had already shared some of his own impressions: “The Skorr are a very military-oriented species and they are more likely to declare full-scale war than negotiate…” It seemed so very strange to Lanista that the Federation — humans especially — were loathe to admit they were genetically, biologically, historically … predators. ~Humans have forward-looking eyes. They aren’t prey animals. Why, then, are they so quick to look upon species that embrace their natures as hunters with disdain? Even Pre-Reform Vulcans… not so dissimilar from we Klingons as they would have liked to admit.~ The Captain went on to outline a potential plan for boarding and seizing the Aquillian spacedock. It seemed that Intel supported action to prevent weaponization of one of the freighter’s reactor cores. Even a small warp core could be made to be a devastating device of martial application. When the CO said “The dry dock has raised shields, and I'd like to find a way in that doesn't involve blasting our way through. We need this to be a casualty free operation,” Lani’ mused privately that the maQmIgh – or “Dark Omen” – might still be useful… That the Captain felt it necessary to add “You will have to do so with a limited amount of resources" indicated to Lani’ that she might have to share some of her Imperial experiences with her commanding officer. That, or remind him of the Old-Earth proverb: “We the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, with so little, for so long, we are now qualified to do anything, with nothing.” Between commands to Signos and Fraiser, Salid had this to say to Lani’: "Mister Lanista, how is the sensor net coming?" “Provided this diplomatic meeting is not overly long, I can have the first set of micro-devices ready to deploy before 1300, sir, with an estimated efficiency in sensor data of 43.2% once the first salvo of probes is deployed. That efficiency would obviously increase with additional layers of net being applied. I can pull otherwise uncommitted Enlisted personnel for this — perhaps even waking those normally on your Gamma shift. I could even reprogram and deploy my exocomp to assist in the matter. The systems required are, as you know from my outline, a cargo transporter, an industrial replicator, and one holodeck – along with its independent energy matrix and processing capabilities. After initial set-up, the process could essentially be automated. “Delivery would be best achieved," Lani' went on, "via the Rosenante’s torpedo tubes, with the micro-probes loaded in a MIRV configuration within normal-sized housings. The system aboard the maQmIgh is technically up to the task, but could not accomplish the task in any time-sensitive way. The nanites intended initially to be used to disable the freighters, however, could still be used in the assault on the spacedock. A tunneling neutrino ray could poke hole enough in the station’s shielding to allow delivery. The nanites could then lower the shields of the spacedock. That would facilitate transporter boarding.” The Captain had stopped short of stating Lani’ would be part of any such boarding. While she dearly wanted to be, she was sure that that aspect of the mission would fall to Sanok and the rest of TAC/SEC, not Sciences. Lani’ expected she would likely be called upon to liaise between the Rosenante and the Skorr. That would be an option equally welcome to actual fighting. (Reply Salid, Fraiser, Signos) (Posted by Frank) --------------- (Beta Aquillia IV - Atlantis Station - President in Exile- Kaloth- Day 3 - 1000) Kolath had been resting when the federation personnel had arrived at the hotel. He had been nearly driven to unconsciousness just trying to reorganize and maintain the rapidly crumbling reins of government that remained after the Veil had taken control of the majority of the planet. This morning he had managed to conduct an early morning breakfast and a series of briefings by those members of his remaining government that he had access to. The news that the USS Rosenante had arrived in orbit and that the Federation personnel were already in action across the surface turned his otherwise bleak outcome for his people into a much more positive moment of hope. Kaloth put on his nicest set of clothing, summoned his assistant, who thankfully had managed to escape alongside him, and the two headed downstairs to the newly established command center operated by the United Federation of Planets relief force. He was imposed by what he observed in the reorganization of the station in such a short time. There were Federation personnel everywhere, hurriedly moving about with purpose and he felt so much safer now than he had days prior. He walked past a few Federation security men, obviously patrolling the area, looking for potential troublemakers. Kolath had to fight to contain his joy at seeing the federation, his ally, taking such decisive and complete action on his behalf. He reached a security checkpoint as he neared the command center. He was stopped by a pair of attentive security personnel. "Can we help you sir? This is a restricted area." One of them asked him. "Yes, you most certainly can." Kolath replied, smiling broadly. "I am very glad that you have arrived. I am president Kolath, the head of the government on this world. I would like to speak to the officer in charge of this operation. may I enter?" "I'm afraid not yet, mister President," he second security officer replied. "Our orders are very explicit, but if you'd like I will notify the officer in charge of security that you are here and wish to speak with him." Kolath nodded. "Yes that would meet my needs. Please notify him. It is imperative that I speak with him, concerning the events taking place all around us." "Alright," the first security man replied. "Please have a seat over there." He gestured to a row of chairs that looked as if they had recently been installed. "Very well thank you." As Kolath turned to head for the row of seats, followed by his assistant, he could hear the security man calling his superior officer. "Petty to Sanok." (reply Sanok) "Sir, I have an individual claiming to be president Kolath, head of the government for BA4 waiting at the South entrance to the CIC. He has requested a meeting." (reply Sanok) Daniel Greene --------------- (Beta Aquillia IV, Joba, Main Refugee Camp, 2O/CSec Lt. Sanok, Day 3, 1003) The away team members from the Rosenante had worked hard through the night, establishing the central command center at Atlantis Station, secondary centers, and two, large refugee camps. The engineering staff had the difficult task of setting up blockades in order to funnel Aquillians through various choke points, as well placing mobile shield emitters around the camps to protect those inside. Processing the influx of people fleeing the fighting had been difficult, and the sheer number of them had been at times overwhelming. However, at this point, the numbers had decreased, making things easier. Still, Sanok knew there were most certainly Veil agents amongst the refugees. The security teams had made every effort to prohibit any weapons from being brought into the camps, but it was always possible something could have gotten through. Uncertain of what Veil infiltrators had planned, he made sure everyone was on high alert. =^=Petty to Sanok.=^= "Sanok here. What is it, Mister Petty?" =^=Sir, I have an individual claiming to be President Kaloth, head of the government for BA4 waiting at the south entrance to the CIC. He has requested a meeting.=^= Sanok paused for a moment before responding. He had not been on Atlantis Station for hours. Petty shouldn't have called him. "Mister Petty, in my absence, Ensign Turner is in charge of security on Atlantis Station. Please refer the president to her." =^=Yes, sir,=^= said Petty. =^=Sorry, sir.=^= "Have Ensign Turner keep me apprised of the president's needs. Sanok out." Sanok returned his attention to the situation at hand. There were so many people to care for, things were going to become even more difficult before they got better. (reply any) (posted by Bob B.) --------------- (Beta Aquillia IV, Atlantis Station – Security office – Sec/Tac Ensign Blake Turner, Day 3, 1011) Sitting in the security office, Blake ran her eyes over the latest security reports when one of the other officers came up to her and mentioned that the deposed ambassador was outside and wanting an audience. Looking up at the young man, she nodded and said, “Okay, send him in.” Watching as the officer left, a chill went up her spine as she realised that this would be the first time she had had direct contact with any Aquillians since learning that her aunt had been taken. Fighting back her anger, she sat straight in her seat and fixed a smile onto her face as the ambassador walked in. Standing, she offered a hand and said, “Sir, Ensign Blake Turner. I'm in charge of security at the Atantis Station. How can I be of assistance?” (Reply Ambassador) (Posted by Jackie Smith) =============== Compiled by Milo Young ===============
