"Ambassador Turner?" Viskhard was confused, surely Turner was a common enough Terran name. "Blake, I don't understand." She tried to stop shaking but couldn't. “She's.... She, Visk, she my family. I never knew. I can't....” The tears ran down her face as she continued, “She's my father's cousin. The only one I know of outside. She's missing. Oh god, she's ….” As he listened, Viskhard's heart dropped. Family was family - even estranged. He pulled over a second chair and sat with her, his hands holding hers. Resting her head on his shoulders, she allowed herself to cry for a few moments. Taking a breath, she looked up into his eyes and said, “What do I do?” (Reply Viskhard) “I don't know. Sanok is going to tell the Captain so I guess it's up to him. I want to go to the surface. Lord knows at the moment, I want to go storming up to the nearest Veil member I can put my hands on and make them tell me where she is.” (Reply Viskhard) She stood and walked over to one of the consoles and replied, “Why not? Why shouldn't I make them pay for this?” She felt an anger build up in her, an anger that hadn't been there for a very long time. Clenching her fist, she slammed it into the nearest table and howled in pain and frustration. Falling to her knees, she pulled her hand to her side and cried. Why shouldn't I make them pay for this?” Clenching her fist, she slammed it into the nearest table and howled in pain and frustration. Falling to her knees, she pulled her hand to her side and cried. He paused for dramatic effect. "You have me." He smiled at the last part, letting her into his life had been about the best thing he could have done. Smiling a little, she reached up and touched his face, saying, “You are a wonder, Viskhard.” He shook his head slightly, "No, you are. It seemed everyone was happy for the new parents Jessica included. It had take Jessica quite a bit longer to finish her project than she liked but she was happy with the results she only hoped all the Jackson's would be equally has happy. Jessica wondered on her way there what it would be like to one day have a child of her own. She knew little about how to raise a child. Such things were not needed knowledge for an assassin to have. But that didn't mean that she didn't want one. But the doctors had told her long ago that due to the Signos thread any attempt for Jessica to bear a child could be dangerous. It was one of the effects of her perpetual youth that Jessica hated. She reached the doorway to the Jackson's quarter, She hoped she wasn't disturbing anyone, has she pressed the button that would announce her presence at the door. (reply any Jackson.) When the door finally slid open Jessica spoke shyly. "I'm sorry if I'm disturbing anyone, but I wanted to drop these off. They're for the twins." In her hands were two small stuffed animals, one a blue bear the other a pink cat. Each had a matching large patched eyes, for Jessica had read button eyes were not safe for young children because they could be bitten off. It was also clear that each was not a product of replication but hand made. The stitching was uneven, some place's looked to have been sewn several times. But each were solidly built, well stuffed and pleasantly soft or Jessica would not of been there. Jacob was getting to be a chubby hairy this. He had Tom's hair color and Dahlia's smile. Dahlia was holding Hope. She had Dahlia's hair color and Tom's impish grin. Timom was quite a different man than he was a year ago. Dahlia and the kids had smoothed his rough edges. The loss if his LT. Cmdr rank didn't hurt quite so much now. Their peaceful interlude was interrupted by the sound of the entry chime. Tim laid Hope in her crib and went to the door ti see who it was Jackson said "Cone" and he was surprised to see Jessica Signos . "Please come in Jessica" Tom asked. (Reply: Jessica) Dahlia came in carrying Jacob. Dahlia smiled and said "Hi There". (Reply: Jessica ) "I'm sorry if I'm disturbing anyone, but I wanted to drop these off. They're for the twins." (Reply: Jessica ) (Posted by: Bill W.) --------------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Jackson Quarters - ACEO Lt Eian O'Neill - Day 1 - 1835) Eian had been planning something for the twins since their birth, but he had wanted to give Dahlia and Tom some time to themselves before he presented what he had replicated. On his way to their quarters, he passed Jessica. He wondered what she was doing here, as her quarters were nowhere near here and this level didn't have anything to do with her job. He nodded to her briefly, and it struck him as awkward--he probably should have just done nothing. He kept walking though, trying to put thoughts of her out of his mind. Lately, though, he couldn't help but think of her. His thoughts usually started with ~I can't be with her if she could be controlled by Lily...I'd never know who it is that I'm with.~ Then they migrated to ~If Lily wasn't there, would I love her?~ And when the answer was 'maybe', he thought ~Then that means that you love her now because Lily's presence doesn't change who Jessica is.~ Which made him consider, ~Then maybe you never should have left her in the first place.~ Of course, this thought would lead to the first one, that he could not be with her as long as Lily was there. It was circular reasoning and it seemed to go on forever, like a snake eating its tail, or the sign for 'infinity'. He rang the Jackson's door chime and waited to be granted entrance. (NRPG: Assuming they let him in) (reply Jacksons) Eian smiled. "After the twins were born I came up with some specs for two of these," he handed them two very small packages wrapped in tissue paper. They were soft, and were consistent in shape and size with folded baby clothes. (reply Jacksons) "They're hockey jerseys. One for each twin," Eian said. One was blue and one was red, and they each had the kids' names in lettering on the back. Their numbers were the minute marks of their birth times. On the front, the team name was "The Jacksons." Eian grinned as the new parents looked at his gift. "I'm hoping when they get big enough to wear skates, I can take them out on the ice in the holodeck and teach them the basics." They were excellent babies just now sleeping thru the night! Tom looked at Dahlia as she fussed with the kids. His heart was so filled with love at being so blessed. The old by the book Tom Jackson had softened quite a bit. The OPS staff liked the change. Their entry chime sound. Tom went to see who wanted entry. He said. "Come" and the door opened revealing Eian O'Neil. "Come in my friend" Jackson said in greeting (Reply: O'Neill) Tom and his young friend seated themselves as Dahlia entered withe twins. "Well, well Eian welcome. How are you?" Dahlia asked. (Reply: Eian) Eian smiled. (Reply: Eian ) (Posted by: Bill W.) --------------------------------------------- (Beta Aquillia IV, Undisclosed Location, Ambassador Toraz- Day 2, 1700) There was a sound of dripping water that gradually forced it's way into the dulled mental awareness that Toraz seemed to possess. His neck pulsed with a dull pain and he realized as he began to awaken rom his unconscious state, that he was sitting on a cold stone floor. He forced his purple eyes open and lifted his beak from his chest where it had been resting and looked around. The room wasn't particularly large, in fact it was too small to allow him to open his wings, even if he had been able to do so. They were securely restrained by what appeared to be a leather harness, specifically made for such a task. That told him that whomever had captured him had done so fully aware of their actions. It had been premeditated. Despite the dim light, his eyes managed to track down the dripping sound of water. Jutting from one of the walls of his makeshift cell, protruded a broken pipe. It was too high to use as a tool to help release him from his bonds, but the steady drip of water on the stone floor offered at least some hydration for his trouble. He rose with difficulty to his feet. He'd obviously been laying in the same position for some time. His arms were fastened at the wrists behind his back. HIs hands and feet covered in some sort of thick silicon type mitten to neutralize his razor sharp talons. his muscles ached, and Toraz did not think that there was a single one that had not been mistreated recently. There was a window high in one wall, and a stream of dirty light lanced down into the otherwise darkened cell. The room was obviously underground, this fact made apparent by the cold dampness of the air. A single freight lift of some sort seemed to be the only exit, other than the window, which was much too small for someone of Toraz's stature to use for escape. He was alone in the room, although he was beginning to remember the events that brought him to this place. The attack upon the Skorr embassy had been swift and deftly executed. The attackers had been numerous and in the end, it was the use of some unexpected weapons that had allowed the Veil of the sky to dominate the battle. They had carried weapons that affected the Skorr's more sensitive sense of hearing and sight. A nasty little weapon that exploded in a flash of brilliant light and sound, disorienting his personal guard and allowing them to be over come. Toraz and his staff had been discussing the sudden escalation of violence on the planet when they were subjected to it first hand. Toraz had been held down by the attackers, although he was certain that he had disemboweled at least two of them in the melee. He had lost consciousness only after being struck repeatedly across the head with some sort of baton. They may have captured him, but it cost them dearly. When he awake he was here, trapped in this worthless basement on an equally worthless world. He knew that his abduction would not be taken lightly back on Skoria. They would send a fleet and this pathetic little world would be decimated and then occupied by his father's troops. They had made a serious mistake. The lift connected to his cell made a noise, and the upper platform, obviously designed for cargo, descended down to the level of his cell. Upon it were a number of Aquillians. "I demand that you release me immediately." Toraz said as the doors to the lift slid aside. "I am the duly appointed Ambassador to this world representing the Skorr Hierarchy." "Shut up." The closest Aquillian said in a strong demanding tone. "You are a prisoner and nothing more." "If you release me now I will see to it that my father's troops do not decimate this world." Toraz added. "You mistake my intentions, Ambassador. That's exactly what I want. I want the Skorr to invade." The man said as he allowed a smile to cross his face. "You what?" Toraz replied with surprise, "why would you want something like that?" "That needn't concern you Ambassador. I merely wanted to see to it that you understood your role in all of this." "My role?" "Yes. You have a very important role to play, Ambassador. You see, when the time is right, we're going to execute you as a warning to all off worlders. Beta Aquillia is ours and your people will no longer exploit our workers, or our resources to your benefit. You're death will create a schism between the Federation and your people. And your attack will crystalize the population. We will become the lesser of two evils, and I believe that the Skorr will not desire to remain here long, once the interstellar community see the carnage that they are willing to commit for one ambassador." "You're wrong. The Skorr are warriors, we will prevail. If you kill me, your world will be plunged into a very one-sided war. You're world will be destroyed, your people killed and your ideals wrecked. You'r plans are foolish." Toraz argued. "If what you want is to be left alone, allow me to leave and I will withdraw the Skorr embassy from your world. I will issue a no travel edict against it and we will no longer be a threat to you." "You are a good Ambassador aren't you?" the man asked. "But your arguments depend on a belief that I desire peace. I do not. We will visit with you again, before it is time for you to die, Ambassador." With that the man turned, and followed by his escorts returned to the lift which made it's way back up. Toraz was very worried, not for himself, but for the people of beta Aquillia. There was a storm coming that would leave the world barren, and the people had no idea they should take shelter." (Reply none) Daniel Greene ------------------------------------------ (Beta Aquillia IV, Undisclosed Location, Operator Dula- Day 2, 1725) Dula and his people stepped out into the makeshift operations compartment that lay nestled in one of the warehouses near the capital city's financial center. The conversation with the Skorr Ambassador had gone well, and Dula was confident that Toraz believed himself to be firmly in Veil hands. The fact that it was the Obsidian Order that held him would never be a possibility. The mission's requirement to bring about the political division between the Federation and the Skorr Hierarchy was well underway. The complete plan would end with the federation and the Skorr escalating to open conflict, and when the invasion was underway, the Cardassians could intercede to stop the conflict before it reached it's apex. For a change, the Cardassian Union would make diplomatic overtures for peace, and in so doing be able to strengthen their position within the interstellar community and gain a decisive military and strategic advantage. With the Skorr and Federation military alliance damaged, Cardassian expansion could move forward more rapidly and with less opposition. Things couldn't have been better planned. Of course Gul Matan would have to remain undiscovered for the plan to come to full fruition. His discovery could not only jeopardize the entire operation, but could have serious consequences for the Union should the full details be exposed. Still, once things had ramped up to the correct level, the execution of the Skorr ambassador would light the fuse for the inevitable conflict to follow. At the best, everything worked out for the best and the Cardassian Union gained a strong pro-Union ally. At the worst, Skorr-Federation relations would be damaged and Federation shipments of critical resources disrupted. Either way, the Order saw it as a win-win scenario, especially with their supporters within the Federation and Skorr Hierarchy. (reply none) Daniel Greene ----------------------------------------- (Beta Aquillia IV, Main Government Compound, Habrii's office, Habrii- Day 2, 2012) Habrii was once again standing in front of the massive window that dominated one wall of his newly acquired office. The city stretched out before him to the sea, which was catching the failing sun in a glorious display of color and glittering points of light. The scene would have been perfect, mirroring the many reams he'd had of this moment, if not for the columns of dark smoke and smudges of extraction that seemed much too prevalent. ~One must sacrifice in order to win.~ he reminded himself, although he wasn't quite as convinced as he should be. He was startled by a sudden voice behind him, "Sir we have a problem. A Federation ship has entered the system." Habrii turned slowly, allowing his mind to work on the newly acquired knowledge for a couple of moments until he faced Alaya. He nodded, "It was only a matter of time." He replied and then took a few steps to his desk. "The federation's response was anticipated. I had no doubt that they would send a ship, do we know which one, yet?" "That's not all. There's another ship also here. We don't recognize it." That caught Habrii's interest. Of all the people that were expected to arrive in force, Habrii had been certain not to seize any ambassadorial representatives of any government that could cause him significant harm. He he had personally ordered the immediate expulsion of the Klingon, Romulan, Cardassian and Skorr delegations. The others remaining in captivity were very minor and would only appeal to the Federation for help since they themselves were under Federation protection. "I'm certain they will both announce themselves in due time. It's unlikely that they'll immediately attack us, besides, we've almost achieved complete control of this planet, once that's accomplished we'll be able to dictate terms, the hostages we have will be helpful in keeping that viable." "Be prepared to meet with a Federation delegation. I want you to handle security for the upcoming meeting, keep the hotel under observation. If we need to act, it will be there that we do so first." (reply Alaya) Daniel Greene -------------------------------------------- (Beta Aquillia IV, Main Government Compound, Habrii's office, Alaya- Day 2, 2015) "I'm certain they will both announce themselves in due time. Alaya nodded and then replied, “Sir, with regards to the hotel... I have someone in the hotel ready to aid us if needed.” (Reply Habrii) “Is there anything else?” (Reply Habrii) She turned to leave and then stopped for a moment. A question had entered her mind, something that had bothered her previously but she hadn't thought to ask. (Reply Habrri) Turning back, Alaya responded, “What do we do if they send people to the surface? Most likely they will land at the hotel, especially since that ape of an owner has made it abudantly clear that she will not aquiese to our demands.” (Reply Habrii) Nodding, Alaya turned on her heels and strode purposefully out of the office. (USS Rosenante – Bridge – CSO LT tlha’nISta’ – Day 2 – 2018) "Interesting thought, lieutenant. Although I will admit a risky one. This could achieve the thought that some klingons are here to help the Veil, or it could just confuse things even further. I'll think on this and make a decision concerning it at a later time. It has, however, just occurred to me, that we could very well ask the Skorr to fly escort for our shuttles and not risk exposing your ship before we're ready to utilize it. That will be something I think I can get Dralar to agree to." “That is likely a better strategy, sir,” Lanista said. “And, lest you believe that your Science Officer has been derelict in their duties, I have an additional report on the planet. Specifically its further resources. It is well noted in this sector for being a source of triiculum ore. It is also rich in the following: beritium, boridium, diamide, dolamide, golside, jevonite, kelindide, both lobi and maraji crystals, mineral deposits from which neurazine gas could be prepared, triceron, trilithium, and uridium. Of these, boridium, triceron, and trilithium would be of particular interest to Romulans.” (Reply Salid, any) (Posted by Frank) -------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Strategic Ops - ACEO Lt Eian O'Neill - Day 2 - 2059) At the beginning of their meeting, Matrix gave an update as to how they were doing building the shelters, an operation that Eian had only been half-engaged in since he was busier coordinating the planning of the command center and interfacing with Davis regarding the refugee center. He had made it very clear that the two could not mix unless absolutely necessary, and thankfully Davis agreed. Apparently the Counselor was just as concerned about a blow to morale if military meetings were to take place in the refugee center as Eian was concerned about the threat to security and the counterinsurgency effort if refugees were to get into the command center. Matrix said at the end of his update, while he was still attempting to construct a shelter in the strategic ops room where they were meeting, "Okay, lets get this last one packaged and ready." replied Matrix "Aye, Sir," Eian responded. "I'm going to give a quick briefing to Lt. Cmdr. Soma regarding the command center and then I'll join you." (reply Matrix iyw) Eian waited until Caskie gave him the introduction he needed to introduce his idea, and then he launched into the entire plan. "The Central Command preparations are as complete as they can be without further information. The best staging area is Atlantis Station, but we should look at alternative sites, too, especially if it's surrounded as we've just discovered that it is. Even if that threat is circumvented, it presents a real threat for the future. I've prepared this PADD for you, Sir," he handed the PADD to Soma, "which outlines the basic idea of a command center and what's required. The primary CENTCOM interfaces with anyone we have on the ground--troops, aid workers, medical personnel, etc. We track them and they all communicate to us. We communicate to the Rose. CENTCOM coordinates with several other sites, which, if possible, shouldn't be in the same area as Atlantis Station. We should use the sites just outlined as possible refugee sites and potentially take an empty office building, if possible. This is all contingent upon ground conditions when we arrive, but it's my recommendation that we plan for multiple staging sites. CENTCOM BRAVO and CENTCOM CHARLIE will be in addition to the hotel's CENTCOM ALPHA site. If the Captain okays it, the BRAVO and CHARLIE sites will do the exact same thing as the ALPHA site but they'd have a skeleton crew and serve as temporary communications in the event of a strike against ALPHA. The most important thing for the BRAVO and CHARLIE sites is that they are well-received in the community. You remember that Counselor Davis reported that this operation is contingent upon the population's approval of either the Federation of the Veil. If the BETA and CHARLIE sites are part of relief camps that are set up around the planet, with the communications effort kept relatively secret, then we have a higher chance of success. But they *cannot* intermix with the refugee camps themselves. CENTCOM serves as an armory, a dining area, and a shelter for any incoming or outgoing personnel. It will have to be restricted access for all civilians, and kept as separate from the refugee center as possible even though they're located in the same relative vicinity." (reply Soma, any others) (posted by Morgan G) ----------------------------------------- USS Rosenante, Strategic Ops, 2O/CSec Lt. Sanok, Day 2, 2101) During briefings, Sanok always preferred to be one of the last to speak, desiring to hear the views of the others before adding his. When a lull occurred, it seemed to be the time for him to speak. "Captain, though what we have planned is a good thing, and I am fully behind it, as you Humans say, I believe we are putting the cart before the horse." He paused for a moment. "Beta Aquillia IV is a non-Federation planet. Though we have a mining treaty with them, and diplomatic relations, their internal affairs are theirs, including a coup d'etat or a civil war. "The Prime Directive is always being waved in our faces. We simply do not have the legal right to start showing up anywhere on the planet we choose, and start setting up command centers and refugee camps. We do have the right to use military force to rescue Federation citizens held against their will, but we may do so only after diplomatic measures have been tried first." He glanced at Lieutenant Nayeil. "All that aside, there is also how such actions will be perceived by the Veil leaders. Though there is still fighting, the Veil controls most of the planet. If we begin landing personnel, though for humanitarian reasons, the Veil would be within their rights to assume we are joining in the conflict, and execute any Federation personnel they are holding. "I am certain that it is inevitable we will need to take action, but doing so first, without trying to contact someone from the Veil, would make things worse than they already are." (reply any) (posted by Bob B.) ----------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante – StratOps Room – CSO – LT tlha’nISta’ – Day 2 – 2102) Though Salid and the humanoid bird were both present, Soma called the meeting to order – by getting right down to business, addressing Dr. Caskie first... Lani’ mostly listened, paying particular attention to Jackson’s contribution about the freighters. "At this point no Comnander" Tom replied. When not actively listening, tlha’nISta’ couldn’t help grumble somewhat. Having heard that the Veil hadn’t gotten their freighters converted as warships, and having seen some of the data on the Skorr warship, she realized that her maQmIgh would be less than the threat originally planned – to the insurgents. A trump card was now in play. After it seemed all other officers had given their data, tlha’nISta’ spoke up. “Sirs,” she said, addressing the Command Staff senior to her, “as it is now clear the maQmIgh will not be needed, what would you have me do?” (Reply any) (Posted by Frank) ---------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante- Strategic Ops Room – ATAC Ensign (sg) Jessica Signos – 2104) Jessica listened has the briefing continued there wasn't much for her that needed to be said. The last few days had been hectic for her running drills and making sure the security around the ship was at needed level. The reports for each drill were already forwarded to Lt. Sanok. Jessica was happy with the overall effectiveness of the gauntlet she had created. Random teleport, riot control, even active terrorist attack by a small group poising as refugees were only a small portion of the drills that Jessica had submitted security to. She had to admit the security teams had done her proud, enough that she allowed them a day of reprieve before reaching Beta Aquillia IV. Jessica was sure all in security were thankful for a day with out drills. Now, however when those alarms sounded it would be the real thing. Jessica listened to the briefing, it had seemed this had indeed become more complex with the coming of Skorr. Jessica had to wonder would the Veil buckle under this new threat. she didn't think so. Sadly the planet below has well has her people were only a means to an end. Some one wanted the resources the super earth held and they were willing to go though great lengths to get it. But first they had to be able to overcome the independent nature of the native people, and what better way to get them to accept outside help other than wiping them out. Jessica, do mostly to her alternate personality could see the underlying planning and subterfuge that was going on here. Do to her time in Section 31 she had been witness to these types of peaceful take overs before. Have your enemies do the dirty work, them come in after has the knight is shining armor to save the day. However, the question was who was behind this, who was making these behind the scene actions that was shaping what was going on 'on stage.' Jessica knew that once that came out into the light the fighting would commence. This did little to convince Jesscia while although diplomacy needed to be used that in the end it would fail. They needed to get someone behind the lines locate and inquire key information and captured personnel and separate the serpents head, by cutting the Veil off from there supporters. Jessica knew her thoughts on this matter were not the kind that Starfleet personnel like to think about but sometimes such actions were needed. So with her mind a jumble of thoughts Jessica listened to the briefing and awaited the captains orders to what the next phase of the operation would be. (posted by Matthew Locke) (reply none, but welcome) ---------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Strategic Operations Room - CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid- Day 2- 2110) Uncharacteristically, Ahmed sat listening to his first officer and his senior crew discuss the mission preparations. The engineering teams. operations teams and medical teams had been under a terrible time table, and while not everything was as complete as it needed to be, it was complete enough to get the main thrust of the mission underway. There were a number of aspects to the mission that the captain did not like. The fact that there was an unknown benefactor supporting the Veil, as well as the unexpected arrival of the Skorr all indicated to him that someone thought they were in control of a very volatile situation, when in truth Ahmed understood that you could never control a situation such as the one that was rapidly blooming into an issue below. It was Sanok's comments that really brought the mission briefing into focus for them all. "Captain," He began, "though what we have planned is a good thing, and I am fully behind it, as you Humans say, I believe we are putting the cart before the horse." He paused for a moment. "Beta Aquillia IV is a non-Federation planet. Though we have a mining treaty with them, and diplomatic relations, their internal affairs are theirs, including a coup d'etat or a civil war." "The Prime Directive is always being waved in our faces. We simply do not have the legal right to start showing up anywhere on the planet we choose, and start setting up command centers and refugee camps. We do have the right to use military force to rescue Federation citizens held against their will, but we may do so only after diplomatic measures have been tried first." his second officer glanced at Lieutenant Nayeli. "I am certain that it is inevitable we will need to take action, but doing so first, without trying to contact someone from the Veil, would make things worse than they already are." Ahmed nodded. "You're absolutely correct Sanok." Ahmed conceded, "But just before this meeting, I sent some detailed information to Starfleet Command. The Federation Council met in emergency session while we were underway. Their ruling is that we are to provide humanitarian aide to any and all political refugees, deposed government and displaced personnel as possible and reasonable for our ability and resources. We have been authorized to use whatever force I deem necessary to protect and provide for these people. In addition, as task force of Federation ships is being assembled to provide complete support for the peacekeeping mission. Our primary mission is still the recovery of the Ambassador and her staff and the evacuation of Federation Citizens, but beyond that we are ordered to protect all refugees fleeing the regime change to the best of our abilities. To do that we need to establish a safe-zone. The Council has deemed this a serious threat to Federation security, so for better or worse, we're here until either things stabilize and we are no longer required, or until our orders change. It's in our best interest to handle this without violence if possible. Diplomacy will be our best chance of that, but a Famous Roman once said, 'Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum'. Ahmed looked around the room, "Look I don't like this any more than the rest of you. There's no honor in fighting a weaker opponent, especially when non-combatants can get caught in the cross fire. We're here to protect people, not to restore the deposed government, and not to recognize the new government. We're here to rescue some hostages, to discover who is operating as the backer for the Veil, and to protect political refugees and provide humanitarian aide. It is my intention to do so from a position of strength, not weakness." He then stated. "Lieutenants Raschen and Rosenbauer, I want to see you in my ready room in 25 minutes at 2135 hours. I have another mission for you to perform. Everyone else will be heading down to Atlantis for the purpose of determining new intelligence that may affect our mission and acquiring permission from Miss McNulty to use her facility as a staging area. You'll have to take a shuttle craft. I don't want to risk transporters at this point, not yet. I am going to request an escort by Skorr swiftwing fighters. Their supply status, need for materials, and such. If she gives her permission, I'll need the teams to start transporting and establishing our CENTCOM Alpha position, Davis you and O'Neill along with some security men will need to locate and determine a good position within the predetermined safe-zone that you can establish site Beta and Charlie. Sanok and Matrix will oversee setting up the Barricades and securing the safe-zone perimeter. Commander Caskie, Lieutenant Lanista, and Viskhard You'll be in charge of handling those people already inside the current area that we are securing. We want them to feel safe, but we also need to be certain that we're not going to be attacked by any of them. I leave it to you to establish a reasonable means of fulfilling those needs." "Soma, Nayeli, you'll take Jackson, Fraiser and Xim to help with the assessment of the station and to speak with McNulty. I need a sitrep on the station right away, especially since they are under siege." "Security teams will be used as needed, everyone moves in force, full squad level operations outside the safe zone. Inside the safe zone we'll need patrols and security checkpoints." "Once we're ready, we'll begin transport and set-up of relief facilities. I expect teams underway no later than 2300 hours, preferably earlier. All teams will communicate regularly with the Rosenante, I want to be kept appraised of anything that may affect our operations on the planet. I will be speaking with Ambassador Dralar shortly. You're dismissed." As the officers rose from their seats, it quickly became apparent to Ahmed that Sanok was lingering behind. He had something important to impart. "You have something mister Sanok?" Ahmed asked. (reply All) Daniel Greene ------------------------------------------------ (USS Rosenante - Strategic Operations Room - Cmdr Josh Caskie - Day 2 - 2112) Captain Salid finished off the meeting by handing out his orders. "Commander Caskie, Lieutenant Lanista, and Viskhard You'll be in charge of handling those people already inside the current area that we are securing. We want them to feel safe, but we also need to be certain that we're not going to be attacked by any of them. I leave it to you to establish a reasonable means of fulfilling those needs." Josh nodded at her Captain. "Understood Sir. I would like if at all possible for security to do a sweep of Atlantis and move all non federation personnel out of there and into the camps. This will give us the benefit of having all non Federation personnel on Atlantis penned up in one place an allow us to keep an eye on them but it also minimizes the change of someone unknown causing havoc on Atlantis Station until we are up and running there." "Soma, Nayeli, you'll take Jackson, Fraiser and Xim to help with the assessment of the station and to speak with McNulty. I need a sitrep on the station right away, especially since they are under siege." "Security teams will be used as needed, everyone moves in force, full squad level operations outside the safe zone. Inside the safe zone we'll need patrols and security checkpoints." Salid ordered. Tom began to run thru a mental checklist of things to do before 2300. He knew he'd need to say bye to Dahlia and the twins. He wasn't worried about his safety but there was always the chance he might not return. He stopped by to see the ship's yeoman about his will and testiment. That chore done he went to see Dahlia and the kids. (Reply: Any / none) (Posted by: Bill W.) -------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, StratOps Room, CSO, Lt. tlha’nISta’, Day 2, 2117) There was something afoot that tlha’nISta’ did not like. There was an unknown at work or, at least, there seemed to be. While Science was the tool for delving into unknowns, Lanista had no training in any of the behavioral sciences… No formal training. Klingon instincts had always served her in that regard. But, being half-a-decade out of the Federation, Lani’ found she now had difficulty with determining people’s motivations. The captain had let Soma run the meeting. That would never happen on a Klingon ship. Were he present, Lani’s father would have advanced the supposition that Salid was attempting to tempt Soma to stage a mutiny… Lanista despised QolloH’s conspiracy theories. She refused to believe Salid would jeopardize the mission in such a fashion. She also did not suppose Soma would take any such bait, regardless of what he might expect to gain. There were, however, other (more important) issues. The Veil. Their benefactors – those Behind the Veil, as it were. The Skorr. Lanista wondered why the Klingons and Skorr hadn’t allied (or fought). And an arrangement between the birdmen and the Humans seemed to make far less sense that some sort of exchange (whether of culture or weapons fire) between the Hierarchy and the Empire. While Lani’ tried to put her finger on what it was that seemed amiss, Sanok mentioned a wheeled vehicle and pack animal… and then the Prime Directive. Even before spending 5 years at home, tlha’nISta’ had had to repeatedly remind herself what the Prime Directive actually stated: “Starfleet General Order Number One prohibits Starfleet personnel and spacecraft from interfering in the normal development of any society…” Lani’ let Sanok continue without interrupting him. "The Prime Directive is always being waved in our faces. We simply do not have the legal right to start showing up anywhere on the planet we choose, and start setting up command centers and refugee camps…” Sanok said. Lanista listened, carefully, but was already formulating a question. Sanok’s conclusion was "I am certain that it is inevitable we will need to take action, but doing so first, without trying to contact someone from the Veil, would make things worse than they already are," to which the Captain agreed. The CO then began issuing orders, by Department or work group. ‘You'll be in charge of handling those people already inside the current area that we are securing. We want them to feel safe, but we also need to be certain that we're not going to be attacked by any of them. I leave it to you to establish a reasonable means of fulfilling those needs,’ was what Salid had by way of directives for Lanista, among others. “Captain, the Prime Directive does NOT -- or MAY not -- apply here,” Lanista declared. “IF the presence or influence of an outside agent or agency can be proven, the situation at hand is NOT within the parameters of ‘normal development’ of this planet’s culture. I acknowledge and accept the task you’ve outlined, but I would like to suggest that the biology of the Aquillians is rather distinctive. If there are any Romulans, or Cardassians, or what-have-you, with boots on the ground, our ship’s sensors should be able to detect them. We would need to take into account any likely counter-measures they may have put in place. But all of those we suspect of being actually to blame for the current state of affairs will have DNA structures quite dissimilar from the Aquillians. I think it worth scanning for any such likely … non-indigenous entities.” (Reply Salid/any at meeting) (Posted by Frank) -------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Strategic Operations Room, 2O/CSec Lt. "I feel we should limit as much as possible the number of Aquillians we allow on the Rosenante. As an alternative, we can use the freighters to hold any refugees leaving the planet. "Secondly, I must advise you to watch Lt. Lanista." He paused and glanced at Ben. "Lieutenant Commander Soma and I served with her in the past. Again, I do not question her loyalty, but she still desires Klingon glory." Sanok handed Salid a PADD. However, if someone important to me was held captive, I would want to go as well." He glanced at Ben again. "I am assigning her to the command center at Atlantis Station. The Prime Directive does not apply to worlds that are equally advanced to the federation. As the Aquillians have technology on par with the UFP, general order one does not apply." "As to the scans, I think that is an excellent idea. However, I am skeptical. The primary reason for this is the sheer number of non-Aquillians still on the planet. I have no doubt that eventually we'd find some Romulan or Cardassians, but I'm not convinced that is something that we can discern in time to be effective. If you feel otherwise, by all means institute the scans, but be aware that with all the chaos on this planet you may find it extremely complicated to pinpoint individuals in this mess." Daniel Greene ------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenanté, Strategic Operations Room, CSO, Lt. tlha’nISta’, Day 2, 2120) "As to the scans,” said the Captain, in response to Lani’s suggestion that the true adversaries might be found remotely, “I think that is an excellent idea. In truth, ‘prepare’ was a misnomer. Lanista already had a plan… ------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge- FO, Lt. Cmdr Ben Soma- Day 2- 2122) Ben remained with Davis and Nayeli at Salid's request, the remainder of the away team was assembling in the shuttle bay preparing for launch. Final preparations were being made, equipment and supplies being loaded and preflights being taken care of. The Captain addressed Dralar's ship requesting an escort which didn't receive a warm welcome at first until they were notified that the area they were heading to was a hot spot. Next he addressed McNulty to request permission to land at Atlantis Station and set up a base of operations, which was okayed. Then he tried to reach the Veil, but there was no response. Ben didn't expect any but he was hoping that the Veil were open to diplomacy. When everything was done Salid turned to the three assembled officers. "Observations? Comments?" "I dislike being negative," Ben said. "but I learned a long time ago to trust my gut. Right now it's telling me this situation is going to get worse before it gets better." "The fact that the Veil didn't respond to our hail tells me they have no interest in what we have to say, they have what they want for now and are waiting to see what we are going to do. Our presence is going to fuel the flames, so to speak." He continued. "No matter how we sugar coat it the Veil is likely to take our presence as aggression. The situation is very volatile and my skills as a diplomat and a negotiator are going to be put to the test. Even if the leaders of the Veil are inclined to see reason their benefactors may not, they may press their position and influence on the Veil. Now we've had another twist thrown at us, the Skorr are now involved. Dralar was once a Starfleet officer but now he has the interests of his people to contend with, let's hope his years of service have tempered him a little. The last thing we need is for them to be provoked into a fight, that will put us in a very difficult situation." She won't be in direct contact amongst the Aquillian people, but being on the planet will help her feel like she's doing something. I just wanted you to be aware of this." Ahmed considered everything that Sanok stated for a moment, and then responded. "At this stage, we will not be attacking the freighters until we've exhausted all reasonable efforts to make contact and negotiate with the Veil. The freighter mission may still be an option. However, we will not be taking any Aquillians off-planet. I have not been authorized to evacuate any natives of this world whatsoever, and unless I receive a direct order to that effect, even the deposed government will remain on Beta Aquillia IV. As for the refugees, The only ones that we will be transporting off-planet are Federation citizens and those worlds that have requested and been granted Federation aide in this instance. The refugee camps and facilities will be primarily for the use of the Aquillians displaced by the fighting, and for processing the personnel we are ordered to evacuate. My orders on this matter are very explicit. However, I will keep Ensign Signos' plan in mind should the need arise to alter the situation." "Secondly, concerning Lieutenant Lanista I have reviewed her records and found nothing disparaging there left by any of her prior COs, but I recognize that you can't learn everything about someone from reading a file. I would like to point out Mister Sanok, that Lieutenant Lanista has spent five years in service to the Klingon Empire while we found ourselves affected by a temporal displacement. It is just likely that she needs a little time to adjust back into the Federation mindset once again. While I can appreciate your concern, I think it may be best to consider the possibility that those five years could very well have changed the lieutenant. As for her suggestion to attack the Skorr Vessel, I can see a certain strategic logic to the action, although I'm not certain it will achieve the effect desired by the lieutenant. I suspect that she is too unfamiliar with the Skorr to understand that at this point. However, that doesn't make her suggestion any less valid. In fact, there is a very good reason to perform such an attack, if one were a Klingon agent wishing to initiate favorable contact with the Veil or their supporters. Making a blatant attack against a potential enemy that threatens the Veil may well have the psychological effect that could potentially create an opportunity to learn more about the Veil and their unseen allies. While not logical, it is an extremely emotional gambit, which may well appeal to the sort of people that are currently in command of the Veil and Beta Aquillia by extension. I will take all suggestions presented by senior officers under advisement, however seemingly unorthodox and weigh their merits or faults accordingly. As CO of this ship, that is my prerogative. It's that ability to weigh risks that earned me the right to sit in the center chair." "As to Miss Turner. I'm fine with her being sent planet side. However, at the first sign of her going off the reservation, she is to be immediately returned to the Rosenante. I trust your judgment and if you feel that she can be a greater benefit to you on the planet, then that's where she will go." Ahmed turned to Soma. "Is there anything you'd like to add commander?" (reply Soma, Sanok) Daniel Greene ----------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge- CO, Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid- Day 2- 2130) Ahmed settled into the center seat on the bridge of the Rosenante, consigned to the events that seemed to be surrounding him and his crew at this very moment. It seemed that the veil was unaware or in some way ignorant of the consequences that their acts would create, yet somehow Ahmed believed that there was something much more sinister at work here. He had asked Davis, Nayeli and Soma to remain on the bridge while he made contact with the three people he had to work with in some capacity; The Ambassador Dralar, a representative from Veil of the Sky and Niambh McNulty, the owner of Atlantis Station. He decided to begin with Dralar, as Ahmed needed something from his associate. "Open a channel to the Skyripper." Ahmed ordered. It took only a moment for the Skorr to answer the hail. The image of Beta Aquillia IV, which had dominated the main view screen shifted to that of an Elder Skorr, he carried the insignia of a Skorr High Flight Commander. =^=I am High Flight Commander Jovek, what do you want Captain Salid?=^= the older Skorr asked almost immediately. "I have a request to make of the Skorr Hierarchy." Ahmed replied, " A chance for you to ruffle some feathers and intimidate the Aquillians at the same time." =^= Go on.=^= "I would like to ask that you send a Swiftwing fighter escort with some Federation Shuttles that I plan to launch within the hour to the surface. Our destination is a federation owned and operated facility located out on the Western Ocean, a short distance from the Capital city, Joba." =^= That hardly seems a worthy investment of military forces.=^= Jovek replied. "If that was all there was, I would agree with you, but the facility in question is currently under siege, encircled if you will, by Veil of the sky vessels. I am confident that the element of danger would appeal to your fighter pilots. I only ask that your pilots refrain from engaging any enemies unless they are attacked or the shuttlecraft is attacked." Jovek turned his head so that his massive eyes could study Salid. He watched him for a moment before stating, "=^=I agree, I think this is a wise maneuver, as it will allow us to gauge the enemies desire to fight. Contact us when you are ready to deploy your shuttles, I will put six fighters on escort duty for you.=^= "Thank you, High Flight Commander Jovek." =^=Ambassador Dralar wishes to visit your vessel tomorrow morning at 0900 hours. I that acceptable?=^= "Yes. I welcome his arrival and his council." Ahmed replied. =^= I will advise him of your agreement to his visit.=^= With that, the communication closed, once again the view screen displayed the planet stretched out below them. ~one down…~ Ahmed thought. "Open a channel to Niambh McNulty at Atlantis Station and put her on screen." It took a short while for the owned=r of the station to answer his hail, but Ahmed didn't mind because he figured that she was very busy considering everything that was taking place on the planet below. "Miss McNulty, my name is Ahmed Ibn Salid. I am the Captain of the Federation Starship Rosenante." (reply McNulty) "We are in orbit currently and are here to handle the extraction of federation citizens and to conduct humanitarian aide for those in need. I understand that you are under a great deal of strain currently, with the veil threatening to board your hotel. I'd like to send some officers down to assess the situation and to help you with your logistical and security needs. The exact details I'll have them relay to you in person, as we're over an open channel. Can I have your permission to send them down to Atlantis Station?" (reply McNulty, room for more) Once that had been handled Ahmed ordered the Veil to be hailed. As expected their hails went unanswered. In response, Ahmed opened a general channel to the planet, broadcasting on all frequencies. "This is captain Ahmed ibn Salid, Captain of the Federation starship Rosenante. We are here on a mission of peace, diplomacy and mercy. Our goal here is to provide sanctuary for political refugees and humanitarian aide for those in need. We are also here to negotiate the release of our Embassy personnel, who are being held against the conventions of Interstellar law and to protect Federation citizens. We will be deploying several shuttle craft to the surface of your planet. If they are fired upon or hindered in their mission in any way, I will consider that an act of aggression, and we will defend ourselves as necessary. I look forward in hearing from your leadership to arrange a meeting whereby we can negotiate a prolonged peaceful settlement to this current crisis." He closed the channel and then turned to the three officers he had asked to remain behind. The last thing we need is for them to be provoked into a fight, that will put us in a very difficult situation." (reply Davis, Nayeli, Salid) (posted by Milo Young) ---------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante, Bridge - JAG Lt. Nayeli - 21:34) Nayeli played the observer well, and noted Captain Salid's ease of Diplomacy, whether talking to Skorrians or to embattled Hotel owners. "Observations? Comments?" The Captain spoke to the trio still on the Bridge. "I dislike being negative," FO Soma said. "but I learned a long time ago to trust my gut. Right now it's telling me this situation is going to get worse before it gets better." As Soma layed out the facts, Nayeli filed away the pertinents for her own information. ~Salid knows how to use his contacts, that's for sure.~ She took her opportunity to speak after the FO. "Captain, I agree with Mister Soma. This is not a pretty picture. The Skorr are highly aggressive warriors. If the Aquillans know this, it will surely inflame things more and invites battle." (reply Salid, any present) Nayeli considered this, "Yes, that is true. I admire you logic there, though I don't necessarily agree with it." (reply any present, any) (posted by Lori) ------------------------------------------- (Beta Aquillia IV - Atlantis Station - Hotel Owner - Niambh McNulty - Day 2- 2135) It had taken a while to locate Niambh. Although she was still in the hotel she was doing her best fire suppression routine, running around from one person to another doing her best to assure them that they were indeed safe where they were. What Niambh hadn't bothered to share with them was yes, whilst they were indeed safe on Atlantis for the present. 'The present' was unfortunately an ever shrinking amount of time. Finally when someone located her and told her who wanted to speak to her Niambh made her way as quickly back to her control room as she could. Finally she saw someone on the screen who at least gave her hope. =/\=Miss McNulty, my name is Ahmed Ibn Salid. I am the Captain of the Federation Starship Rosenante.=/\= Niambh sighed in relief and gazed at the face on the screen. Never one to beat around the bush she simply frowned at him. "Well, whoooptie doo for you. Please tell me your ship is actually orbiting this planet and not several days out since we have a serious problem here and could do with some help. You are coming to help us aren't you?" "We are in orbit currently and are here to handle the extraction of federation citizens and to conduct humanitarian aide for those in need. I understand that you are under a great deal of strain currently, with the veil threatening to board your hotel. I'd like to send some officers down to assess the situation and to help you with your logistical and security needs. The exact details I'll have them relay to you in person, as we're over an open channel. Can I have your permission to send them down to Atlantis Station?" Niambh opened her mouth to reply to him once again when what he had said about an open channel finally hit her. Snapping her mouth shut she nodded and took a deep breath. "By all means Captain I would welcome any help you can give me. We are currently surrounded by a Veil water armada which is allowing us no shore access. I also believe that our transporters are being scrambled at present so as per your directions I will discuss every other aspect of our security with your representatives once they arrive." (No reply needed this was only to reply to Daniel's post.) (Posted by Marilyn) Hotel Owner Niambh McNulty ---------------------------------------- (Beta Aquillia IV, Main Government Compound, Alaya's Office, Alaya- Day 2, 2137) Sitting at her desk, she went over the security arrangements she had made for any meeting. The thought of Starfleet personel on their soil made her blood boil but she believed in Habrii, his skill and his belief for their freedom. Sighing, she took a moment to rest her eyes, only to be disturbed by a voice that she did not recognise, "This is Captain Ahmed ibn Salid, Captain of the Federation starship Rosenante. I look forward in hearing from your leadership to arrange a meeting whereby we can negotiate a prolonged peaceful settlement to this current crisis." A laugh escaped her lips and then a feeling of fear ran through her. Taking a moment, she activated the comm and said, “Sir, did you hear the message?” (Reply Habrii) “What do we do?” (Reply Habrii) (Posted by Jackie Smith) --------------------------------------------- (USS Rosenante - Shuttle Bay- FO, Lt. Cmdr Ben Soma- Day 2- 2250) Ben entered the shuttle bay to see it a buzz with activity, from what he could see just about everything that needed to be loaded had been loaded and it was just a simple matter of boarding, getting clearance and notifying the Skorr that they were ready to get underway. In theory it was easy, reality could prove to be more difficult. Once they hit the atmosphere there was the risk of being attacked on approach, intel didn't provide much in the way of planetary defenses. That may be because there were none at the time of the recon or there was the possibility such defenses were very well hidden. Ben hoped for the former rather than the later. "Everything ready to go." He inquired. (reply any) "You all now what you have to do." He said. "Once we hit planet side lets get set up as quickly as possible, the sooner we can start processing the refugees and displaced personal the sooner we can get to the heart of the matter. Lets get this show on the proverbial road." (reply any) Ben entered a shuttle and went to the cockpit, once there he waited for the others to fall in. When the shuttles were ready he opened a channel to the bridge. "Soma to bridge," He said. "the shuttles are ready for departure. Requesting permission to get underway and notify the Skorr escorts were heading down to the surface." (reply bridge) ----------------------------------------- (Beta Aquillia IV - Atlantis Station- FO, Lt. Cmdr Ben Soma- Day 2- 2315) The shuttles had landed without incident, either the Veil weren't willing to open fire on Federation craft just yet or the half dozen swiftwing fighters had caused then to pause long enough to allow them to land. Either way they were here and it was time to get to work. Ben took a look around, Atlantis Station was an amazing place. Even with the energy burns the station was almost breathtaking, this must have been a very busy place before the fighting broke out. Ben tapped his commbadge. "Soma to away team." He said. "Lets get the shuttles unloaded and begin setting up, secure the area and begin patrols." Ben saw a couple people approaching his position, likely it was McNulty and a couple security officers. They continued towards them until Ben could see it was the woman from the transmission. "I'm Lieutenant Commander Ben Soma." Ben stated. "First officer of the USS Rosenante, we brought shelters and medical supplies to help treat the wounded. Doctor Caskie, our cheif medical officer, will see to your medical needs." He said indicating Caskie. "Lieutenant Sanok, our cheif of security, will be setting up a command center to handle any security issues as they arise." Ben stated indicating Sanok. "We also have a couple engineers present should their skills be required as well as a counselor to help the people cope with what has happened here." (reply McNulty) (posted by Milo Young) ----------------------------------------- (Beta Aquillia IV - Atlantis Station- Niambh McNulty - Day 2- 2317) Atlantis Station's Control Room had watched the shuttles right down until they landed and Niambh, David and his deputy went out to meet them. "I'm Lieutenant Commander Ben Soma." Ben stated. "First officer of the USS Rosenante, we brought shelters and medical supplies to help treat the wounded. Doctor Caskie, our chief medical officer, will see to your medical needs." He said indicating Caskie. "Lieutenant Sanok, our chief of security, will be setting up a command center to handle any security issues as they arise." Ben stated indicating Sanok. "We also have a couple engineers present should their skills be required as well as a counselor to help the people cope with what has happened here." Niambh simply nodded. " Niambh McNulty, Atlantis Station Owner. This is David, my head of Security and his deputy. We have various refugees in the Station including the head of the previous government, some of the Marines from the Federation Embassy and various other Federation and non Federation personell that were lucky enough to make their way there before we were surrounded." Niambh turned to David and smiled at him. "Could you take the Lieutenant and show him what we have been doing and what here needs to be protected please." Turning back to Soma she smiled at him. "Perhaps you and I need a quick word inside the Station where no-one from those boats can here what we say and perhaps the Doctor would care to come to since she will need to work with the rest of my people." Leading the way into the hotel Niambh smiled once they entered. I'm sorry. I didn't want to say too much outside but Ambassador Blake is being held by the Veil. They have already tried to use her to get me to turn over this hotel to them. As far as I could see she was being treated as well as could be expected and I think they will continue to do so as long as it suits them." "How long it suits them is debatable." (Reply Milo) (posted by Marilyn) --------------------------------------- (USS Rosenanté, CSO’s office, CSO, Lt. tlha’nISta’, Day 2, 2345) While the mission with the maQmIgh had been all but scrubbed, there was a device aboard Lanista’s starfighter that could serve as the basis for the plan to scan for Romulans (rIHanSunganpu’). Or Cardassians (qarDaSnganpu'). Or anything else known to be both a potential outside agent species and genetically non-Aquillian. Aquillians were saurian. The life-signs of other known reptilian races would need to be removed from the parameters of any pending sensor search. Lani’ could think of nearly a score of such species: Arkonian, Caatati, Gnalish, Gorn, Jem’Hadar, Kasheeta, at least one Rigellian life-form, the so-called ‘Saurians’, the Selay, Tygarian, U’tani, … even Xindi-Reptilian. (Ostensibly, there were reports of G- and ?-Quadrant bipedal reptiles – the Tosk and the Voth, respectively. There didn’t seem to be any practical reason for excluding them from the search. Nor was there any reasonable point in including the reptoid Delta Theta III aborigines in the screening parameters.) tlha’nISta’’s idea consisted of adapting a sub-system from her own K-Fighter. The maQmIgh had its RBMDS, or “Rapid-Bloom Micro-device Deployment System”. While that was what tlha’nISta’ had called it when she invented it aboard the Mithrandira in January of 2408, that was the old name – of the MK-1 version. During the time she’d recently spent in Klingon space, pursuing qorDuDaj malja’, her family’s business, she had taken to calling the RBMDS 'eng nejwI'Hommey bavwI' baHjan, or “Launcher for the Cloud of Orbital Microprobes” – though in imperial territory the units had been loaded with warheads, not probes. (There’d no good strategic reason for naming it something spies could report to Qurta.) Though the enHbb on the maQmIgh was far too small to be adapted physically for use on the Rosenanté, Lani’ had overseen re-designing and installing a much larger version on the flagship of House DI’al, the tlha’va’ghar. The science and technology of that one could be applied in principle aboard the Federation vessel on which she now served. Lanista thought she might now rename the enHbb as spusayek na’ bish pa-yutan pi’nisayekar, in Vulcan, for “Launcher for (the) Swarm of Orbiting Small Probes.” What the spusayek was was a development of older Federation microtorpedo-delivery systems. Instead of firing one microtorpedo, or even one spread, the system as Lani’ had redefined it could fire a literal swarm of warheads. Such devices had even been set up as space-mines to burst with ‘angry hornets’ during the Housefeud with Qurta. Non-violently, though, the device could be loaded with micro-probes rather than warheads. Using miniature RCS thrusters and Euler-Lagrange [E-L] equations of motion, the payload of probes could be preprogrammed to deploy to the vertices of a geodesic configuration – something like a Fullerene molecule or an Old-Earth Hoberman sphere except writ large. Probes so deployed could quickly become a veritable satellite network around a phenomenon (or even an entire planet) to be studied in detail. This application would, in theory, allow for an exponential increase in the Rosenanté’s sensor capability. Since a standard micro-probe was no bigger than 13 cm, the Aquillians would have far too much difficulty detecting them once deployed – especially if they were launched passively from a cloaked vessel. Even if they were launched overtly, from the Rosenanté, the cloud could conceivably envelop the planet before any counter-measures could be taken to effectively curtail casting a functional sensor net around all Beta Aquillia IV. Even some loss of individual devices could be suffered and the plan would likely still work. Preparing enough micro-probes would require coordinating with Engineering. A cargo transporter and a large, industrial replicator could be configured to work in concert – perhaps even with support from the holodeck sub-processor and energy matrix – to produce enough microprobes to cast a large enough sensor net. Once manufactured, the probes could be placed in modified torpedo housings, which could then be launched from the Rosenanté’s own tubes. Programming the probes – prior to launch, of course – would require someone to touch base with Medical – to ascertain the best genetic markers of Romulans/Cardassians to scan for. Lani’ supposed she’d assign Viskhard to that liaison. She despised doctors and avoided them whenever possible. ------------------------------------------ (USS Rosenanté, Personal Quarters, CSO, Lt. tlha’nISta’, Day 2, 2359) Once Lani’ had finished drafting her proposal, she transmitted it for review and commentary to the Command, Engineering, and Medical staffs, and copied Viskhard as well. Feedback could wait until morning. Lanista then engaged in a physical work-out until ready for sleep. ------------------------------------------ (USS Rosenanté, Personal Quarters - ACSO Lt jg Viskhard - Day 3 - 0005) Viskhard was settling in to get some studying done when the proposal copy came through. He read the long draft and then took some time to review the related materials. Programming Nano-probes could be risky business and Visk made a few recommendations to avoid self-sentient probes, etc. He copied the appropriate people and then decided he didn't want to study. He took out a paper book from the small stack Blake had lent him and started reading.
