It was a pointless mental exercise, but one that he somehow managed to allow each time that the situation arose.  The reassembly of his physical structure back into a coherent entity was always one of suppressed joy to him. He wasn't afraid of the transporter, but more aware of the affects that it could have upon him should it fail to work properly. he called it a healthy respect.  He had come alone to the Rosenante, determined to leave his Skorr bodyguards back on the Skyripper against Jovek's wishes.  The old soldier was a fierce warrior, but he was no diplomat. As it was things were hanging by a thread. Especially after the assault by the Federation upon the Aquillian space dock, and the revelation of the local's desire to weaponize a warp core and use it against the Skorr ship in orbit.  NRPG: This has not been posted out yet, but would have taken place already by this time.  He nodded his head at Ensign Dawson, who besides himself at the moment was the only person in the room.  the ensign smiled as he greeted the Skorr Ambassador.  "Welcome aboard Mister Ambassador. Are you ready to be transported down to the CENTCOMM now?" he asked. "Yes. You may proceed." Dralar replied. "Energizing." (Beta Aquillia IV- Atlantis Station- CENTCOMM- Ambassador Dralar- Day 4, 0821)  For the second time in just a few moments, Dralar rematerialized and was thankful for the fact. The area surrounding him was a veritable hub of activity, much like a larger version of a federation starship with various stations manned by occupied personnel.  Dralar stepped down from the transporter platform as Soma approached.  "Greetings commander Soma." Dralar spoke as  he stepped down on the main floor. "I bring you greetings and news."  (reply Soma)  "Skorr air support will begin overflight operations of the Federation Embassy promptly at 0830 hours. they will remain in place until we have concluded our negotiations for the day."   (reply Soma)  "May I now enquire to the composition of the negotiation team?"   (reply Soma) Daniel Greene  Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid CO, USS Rosenante ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mission: Veil of the Sky Day: 4 Stardate: 2414.04.25   (Beta Aquillia IV- Atlantis Station- CENTCOMM- FO- Lt. Cmdr Ben Soma- Day 4, 0829) "Ambassador Tzorn?" Dralar asked. "That is an interesting thing." Ben wasn't sure why Dralar found that to be interesting. "Why is that Ambassador?" He inquired. "He was the Ambassador of the previous government. He was the main architect of the various trade agreements and helped build many strong relationships between his people and the Federation as well as with the Skorr Hierarchy. I find his presence in these discussions interesting. I suspect that he will not be negotiating freely and that his participation may be somewhat forced. We should keep this in mind when holding our meetings." "Now that you mention it, it does seem somewhat odd." Ben replied. "If he had a hand in building relationships why would the Veil leaders choose him to destroy them now? Though your probably right in assuming his position at the meeting is forced, maybe a form of punishment for him. It's kind of sadistic though, making the man tear down his life's work." (reply McNulty, Dralar iyw) "As for your team, that is a good team. I would like to make a request of you commander." "Of course Ambassador." Ben said without hesitation. "I would also like to request the presence of Thomas Jackson. His affiliation with one of the most profitable Ferengi Merchant Houses could prove useful. And also I would like to request the presence of Lieutenant Nayeli, who is an expert at Law. Her observations could also prove useful to our negotiations. Is this acceptable to you?" Ben hadn't considered either, Tom was at odds with his step father so he wasn't sure how willing his friend would be to use that to his or the parties benefit. He also didn't want to place undo pressure on Tom, he had been avoiding Ben whenever he could and adding more strain to that relationship may not be wise. Tom was an exceptional officer and Marah said he was an excellent father, Ben felt bad their relationship had become such as it was. He did intend to rectify the situation when he had a chance to speak with Tom alone. "I'll add them to the team," Ben said. "Though Lieutenant Jackson may not be willing to admit to his affiliation with Pez now, he hasn't spoken with his step father in some time. Their relationship has become quite strained recently, but given the circumstances he may be willing to look past that for now. I'll contact them, get their locations so we can pick them up on route." (reply any present) (posted by Milo Young) Lt. I suspect that the Veil believes that his previous position may give him some added credibility with us. After all, if he can be convinced of the correctness of the change of government, then why can't we?" Dralar asked rhetorically.   "Indeed.  Having a vested interest in keeping both my hotel and my skin intact, " McNulty added,  "I thought it prudent to offer my services as someone who has had dealings with the Aquillians on a daily basis in the past.  They aren't all as xenophobic as the Veil seems to suggest they are.  In fact, most of them are ordinary people, no different from you or I, and simply interested in getting on with their daily lives like the rest of us, which is why this Veil takeover came as such a surprise to almost everyone here.  My own intelligence suggest that most Aquillians are just as surprised at the Veil take over as everyone else and are keeping a low profile until they see which way the wind blows, so to speak."   "Yes, one should never take wing until they know the direction the wind blows." Dralar agreed. (Beta Aquillia IV- Federation Embassy- Ambassador Dralar- Day 4, 0910) As they settled into their seats, McNulty moved into a position between Dralar, who was forced to stand because of the inappropriate seating and Soma. in a low voice she addressed them both, "I know that we probably all assumed that we would be monitored but Alaya has just told me that she would be watching me so, I think it's pretty safe to say that we are indeed being monitored and by a lot more people other than her.  Word to the wise as they say." "Yes. a suspicion is nothing without confirmation. Now we have confirmation. Thank you for the information." Dralar replied. Alaya and some of her thuggish security people were present, and that aspect of the negotiations worried him greatly. In his years as ambassador for the previous government of beta Aquillia IV, he had been trusted to fulfill the edicts he was given. Here, he was being used as a mouthpiece.   At least by doing this he wasn't being tried as a traitor to the new regime and that at least meant some degree of survival.  He would normally be spending this time before a negotiation by reviewing the agenda. In this instance the agenda was exceptionally short and depressingly inflexible. He knew that he was wasting a great deal of time here, and that this negotiation was more of an ultimatum presented in an official capacity rather than a discussion and attempt to work anything out between the parties in question.   It was all he could do to allow the federation officers some security personnel, a necessary concession that he felt would bring them to the table. He had always felt that he held a personal moral stake in the negotiations that he had performed for the government  in the past. But this time there was an empty dread in the pit of his stomach, weighed down by the understanding that failure would most likely mean his execution.  One of the security people entered the room then. However, Habrii, in his infinite wisdom, has appointed you to run this meeting, therefore I will do as you say. For now. But if these negotiations go any way other than the immediate withdrawal of the Federation forces, I will not be happy and you have seen what happens when i'm not happy.” (Reply Tzorn) Nodding, she walked out of the room with the security guards behind her. Stopping in the courtyard that served as the meeting point, she turned to her guards and said, “Gentlemen, these people are the reason that we are fighting. Search all of them, thoroughly. I would not put it past them to try to bring in weapons. Anyone found in the possession of anything that could be used as a weapon is to be arrested and jailed immediately.” The guards nodded. Turning back, Alaya could hear the sound of the transporter beam that signalled the arrival the interlopers. Taking a deep breath, she stepped forward and said, “I would say welcome but it would be unfounded. Please step forward and submit for weapons search.” (Reply Soma, Any) (Posted by Jackie Smith) ========================================================================= Mission: Veil of the Sky Day: 4 Stardate: 2414.04.25   (Beta Aquillia IV- Federation Embassy- Ambassador Dralar- Day 4, 0858) To say that the diplomatic delegates were unwelcome was an understatement. It was not that Dralar felt particularly unpleasant about the lack a warm reception, but more that he felt that some even false pretense to show him and his colleagues some respect was at least warranted. Still despite that, there was something refreshing in the fact that the disdain that the Aquillians felt for the delegation was out in the open and not masqueraded or obscured by ulterior motives of subterfuge. "I would say welcome but it would be unfounded. please step forward and submit for a weapons search." the leader of the Aquillian escort stated in greeting. Ben stepped forward and submitted himself to a search stating with a clear authority, "I submit myself for a weapons search." Of course, Dralar realized that Ben Soma was a well-trained Martial Artist and that he did not require weapons to defend himself or to render an enemy inconsequential. The Skorr Ambassador, not to be outdone by his human compatriot, stepped forward next, assuming the same stance that Soma had adopted, he added to that his fully open wingspan. The nearly twenty-foot span caused some obvious discomfort in the two security guards detailed to conduct the search of his person. He had his claws and his beak, and needed nothing else to rip flesh or maim any aggressor. He was unconcerned with the lack of weapons that his current condition afforded. The others in the party each submitted to their search in turn, and as the last of them were cleared, Dralar could clearly hear the high-pitched whine of Skorr fighters as they flew over the Embassy building once again. If he were human and possessed the ability to do so, he would have smiled, but that ability was beyond him. "If you're satisfied I'd like to meet  with Ambassador Tzorn now." Ben stated with authority, "We have much to discuss." Dralar was impressed. Diplomacy was normally not a forte of Security personnel. Restraint perhaps, but rarely diplomacy. Ben Soma seemed to be grasping the basics of the situation well. "I concur." Dralar added. (reply Alaya) The delegation followed the womb and her escort across the courtyard and into the massive building that once housed the entire Federation Embassy staff. It was an impressive piece of work and Dralar was struck by it's elegant yet, simple design. He followed as he could, being delayed slightly by the presence of steps leading into the structure. being avian creatures skorr were not well-suited to traverse stairs. Dralar chose to make the difficult climb rather than risk exasperating the potential uneasiness of his escort by simply opening his wings and using them to bypass them completely. Besides, he still had the advantage of knowing how far and how quickly he could move with a single beat of his massive wings, where most non-avians wouldn't have any idea how to anticipate that aspect of his ability. He preferred to keep it a secret for a while longer. The chamber was not as large as many of the rooms that the delegation had already passed, but it was adequate for the meeting. By using a smaller room, the Aquillians were sending a message that these negotiations were not considered worthy of a larger space. It was a common psychological ploy meant to instill uneasiness or even doubt upon the success of the negotiations before they ever began. Dralar, however, was already well-versed in such tactics and knew somewhat now what could be expected. Tzorn was an Aquillian unfamiliar to Dralar, but he had seen the information on the previous government. So while the man himself was unknown, his accomplishments and the skill he possessed were not an unknown factor. "Ambassador Tzorn, I'm Lieutenant Commander Ben Soma" Soma said in way of personal introduction. "This is Ambassador Dralar, Ms. Niambh McNulty, Lieutenant Sanok, Lieutenant Parker Davis, Lieutenant Tom Jackson, Lieutenant Nayeli and Ensign John Pierce." Torn looked unmoved. "I'd like to thank you for meeting with me to discuss the situation." Ben continued. "It's my hope that we can work this out without further hostilities and maintain a mutually beneficial relationship between the Federation and the Aquillians." "I represent the government of the planet of Beta Aquillia IV. We maintain and hold the sovereign right to conduct the affairs of our people without interference or interruption by those greedy and self-important powers that seek to rape our lands, pimp our people's hard-working nature and to export the riches of our world for their own selfish desires." Tzorn began, although it was clear that the Aquillian ambassador did not seem completely dedicated to his cause. "The Veil does not negotiate with parasitic species, but has granted you this meeting only so that we may hear your pathetic desires and to make our own will know to you." He continued. "We will not broach any discussion that includes the continuation of trade between the United Federation of Planets, the Skorr Hierarchy and the people of Beta Aquillia IV. We will not give weight to any demands that you may make, but will consider granting audience to those that are repentant of the crimes committed against this world and her people. Do you understand the stand of my government in these discussions?" The Ambassador inquired at the end of his tirade. Dralar stepped forward.  "The Skorr Hierarchy does not care about trade with your planet or people. We have only one concern here and that is the return of our Ambassador into our possession without harm or delay. I will not presume to speak for our allies." Dralar gestured to Soma. Alaya was also present and that little tidbit of information struck Trez as being particularly interesting. He had been quick to work with the veil, eager and able and those skills had served him in moving up into the position of trust that he had occupied for some time within the Veil. Of course, his investigation into the theft of the Romulan weapons that had been sent to the Veil to aid them in their revolution. Trez suspected the Cardassians although he had no direct proof of their involvement. Of course, the mistrust that the Federation  had for members of the Tal'Shair probably wouldn't help him convince them of the fact. It was most likely that they would assume that his presence here was a sure indication of Romulan involvement and possibly even support of the revolution. Truthfully, the Romulan Star Empire could care less about who governed the planet, but his superiors wouldn't be the slightest bit upset if the Federation became bogged down in some conflict, or if the managed to sour relations between the Cardassians and the Federation. The best way to do that would be to somehow point the Federation in the correct direction and away from the Romulan Star Empire. But how would he manage to do so without compromising his cover or bringing unwanted attention to the RSE? (reply none) Daniel Greene Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid CO, USS Rosenante www.startrekfreedom.com -USS Rosenante ------------------------------------------------------------------------- NRPG: It was decided that these were in fact Cardassian Detonators rather than Romulan ones. He noted the amateurish manner that Alaya handled the greeting, showing nothing for disdain for the arriving members of the two delegations. It was a mistake that the Romulans had made on several occasions, and now Trez was convinced that the human axiom concerning flies and honey was sound in principle. Once the delegates had moved into the compartment to deal with the politically castrated ambassador, Alaya returned to him. He knew what it was that she was going to ask him, before she ever did.  “Do you have it yet”? she asked referring to a pair of detonators that she had requested him to acquire.  He nodded to her once. "I do. I acquired them just a short while before our meeting here. They are ready to be used and I have moved them to the prearranged drop point for your people." he replied. (reply Alaya) Daniel Greene Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid CO, USS Rosenante www.startrekfreedom.com ========================================================================= Mission: Veil of the Sky Day: 4 Stardate: 2414.4.25 (Beta Aquillia IV - Federation Embassy - COUNS Parker Davis - Day 4 - 0915) As much as he hated to leave the refugee center for even a moment, Parker realized the importance of attending these negotiations.  Though he had the experience to solve problems as they popped up in the refugee center, he had the training to analyze the body language and tone of voice of those in the room. He had the education to analyze what they said and translate it into behavioral predictions, and the profiling experience to give Soma and the others a good idea of what to expect. Alaya, the woman who had them frisked for weapons, struck Parker as a classic 'grieving warrior' type he had seen repeatedly throughout his life.   He had seen kids just like her in juvenile detention alongside him, and there was even a bit of that personality type in his own behavior at that time in his life.  He had seen adults who never got past the stage and wound up making a poor decision that led to their incarceration.   In most cases, they held a strong belief system that permitted little room for a gray area, they grew up in a time of struggle, they saw themselves as needing to constantly fight in order to survive, they suffered a loss at the hands of a perceived enemy, and they dedicated the whole of their being to avenging the loss and bringing what they saw as balance to the universe.   What was consistently missing from their belief system was room for forgiveness or acceptance of outsiders.  When engaged in a nature vs. nurture debate, these types would most certainly weigh toward 'nature' in describing why their enemy was evil.   When engaged in a debate about what constituted 'reasonable force,' these types would rarely place limits on what was justifiable if the outcome was desirable.  Tzorn, the Veil ambassador, was showing visible signs of discomfort.  Given what Parker knew about the man, he couldn't blame him.  He probably wasn't given much of a choice in being there.  He imagined it had gone something like, 'represent us or die.'  He sounded like he was reading lines instead of stating demands he believed in, and Parker figured they could exploit the man's lack of emotional commitment eventually, but they had to be careful.  If they 'caused' Tzorn to fail at his 'job', they might also cause his execution. The Skorr were either the easiest or the hardest to analyze in the room, Parker thought.  He knew little about their race but what he understood of their involvement so far, it was either very straightforward, in just wanting to recover their Ambassador, or it was hopelessly complicated.  He had a comprehensive understanding of neither the politics of the Skorr Heirarchy nor their culture, and so he decided to err on the side of caution and take what they said at face value. Ben, of course, was easy enough for Parker to read.  He was trying his best, doing a great job at diplomacy, and stating what Parker understood to be their intentions in a very clear and non-confrontational manner.  He saw no reason to be concerned about their end of the negotiation unless it became apparent that a passive and professional mindset would insult the Veil. He remained quiet until the recess.  He saw his role as more of an advisor to Soma and the others present than an active participant in the negotiations.  If his mediation skills were necessary, he intended to step forward, but he saw that as an unlikely outcome. Cmdr Ben Soma Lt. Cmdr, Day 4, 0924) Ben listened as Tzorn spoke, stating what he considered more demands, the Veil wanted but wouldn't give. Dralar informed him of Tom's affiliation with Pez and what it would mean if he recommended that Ferengi refused trade with Beta Aquillia IV as well as saying both the Romulan's and the Cardassian's would strip mine their planet. Tom agreed with Dralar regarding his adoted father, something about Tom's tone and choice of words told Ben his friend wasn't in the best of moods. Something was bothering Tom, slowly eating away at him, Ben needed to find out what. Tom had been avoiding him for a while now, which wasn't like him. Niambh then turned on Tzorn, demanding that the blockade at Atlantis station be lifted and the bombings be stopped. Ben had come to understand the bombings as a scare tactic. No damage had been done to the station yet, it was meant for intimidation. It was very annoying to say the least, bombs would explode in the middle of the night waking everyone and keeping them awake. He sympathized with everyone's position and felt very similar but he had to play nice so the Veil would keep speaking to him and hopefully come to their senses, though if what Tzorn was saying was the consensus for the Veil it seemed unlikely. He gave Tzorn a couple seconds to absorb what he had just heard before speaking. "Well Ambassador Tzorn," He said. "my friends have outlined a couple unfavorable outcomes for you. You don't have to take their word for it, feel free to contact Bajor and ask what the Cardassian's did to that planet during the occupation. Or contact any world currently under Romulan rule to see how their lives have 'improved'. As for the Ferengi, I strongly suggest the Veil consider the ramifications of losing their business." Ben paused for a moment before continuing. "The Federation is made up of many different species and many different worlds, all working together for the same goal. That goal is to improve the quality of life for all and safeguard all it's citizens. If the Veil drive the Federation from Beta Aquillia IV they will be on their own, the Federation will not come to their aide nor will any of it's allies. The human owner of Atlantis station rose to her feet. She was an elegant female for a member of her species, and this was not the first time that Tzorn had encountered her. Ambassador Blake had sometimes hosted events at the hotel, where the opulence of the Federation could be used to full advantage. All heads turned to her she stood and smiled at them all. "Ambassador Tzon, as I am sure you are aware Ambassador Dralar has made a very valid point regarding Merchant Pez and his house.  Whilst I do not know the gentleman personally I do know of him and I can guarantee that what the Ambassador says is true, as I am sure you yourself are only too aware.  If the Veil wishes Beta Aquillia IV to be an isolationist world outside the Federation then Merchant Pez and his associates are more than capable of seeing that this will indeed happen for a very, very long time to come.  To trade outside the Federation your planet would have to negotiate with either the Romulans or the Cardassians.  Tell me Ambassador do the words strip mining ring any bells, because believe me that is what will happen here should the Federation remove their protection from this world.  I'm sure that you are aware that you need to take that thought back to those in power at present, and, if you are half the person I think you are you need to explain to them in full just exactly what this would mean for your world since I rather doubt the Romulans or the Cardassians will pay them the same kind of courtesy that the Federation and their Skorr Allies have done during these negotiations."  "I also doubt this," Tzorn replied with a tone of despondancy, "but it seems that my advice is not well received in the capital these days."  "Now on a totally personal note," She continued, "I would like the blockade lifted from my hotel. As you know I am a large employer of Aquillians and I have treated and paid them fairly.  The Veil have been shelling my hotel since they took over the government for no other reason than I am a Federation citizen.  I want it stopped now.  I think ambassador that you need to go back to the Veil and have a long talk with them about economics and trade over and above the discussion you're going to need to have with them about the Skorr and I wish you luck with that.  But that is your problem not mine.  Mine's is what do I do with my hotel.  I have had a very prosperous few years here but if the Veil demand that I leave I will.  However, I own that hotel and I will not leave it standing for them to use.  I take it I make myself clear."  Tzorn nodded his understanding. "You do make yourself clear. I might offer you a way to help me stop the shelling of your hotel." He paused for just a moment to allow his words to be processed and then continued. "The reason that your hotel is considered a valid target for the veil's military is because you are currently allowing the remnants of the previous government sanctuary there. If they were to be turned over to the authorities of the new government, I am certain that I can gain you a respite on the constant bombardment taking place. But without that, I cannot guarantee you anything but a hollow statement that I will report your request directly to my superiors. I do not know if your threat to destroy the hotel bears any real merit for them. I believe they are only displaying these harmless acts for the purpose of intimidation and because they want the exiled president turned over to them."  (reply McNulty iyw)  The Rosenante's First Officer spoke then. The first is your government's official acknowledgement of the Veil of the Sky as the only legitimate government of this world, possessing complete sovereignty over this system and all within it. With that will be the extradition of those members of the previous government that are currently under your protection. The second is to acquire the complete withdrawal of all federation citizens and those citizens of their allies within a 72 hour time frame. If the first of these requirements are met,  I am authorized to tell you that we will release your Ambassador who is currently being held for crimes against our people. We will drop all charges and consider her removal from this planet and our system as punishment enough for her role in the affair for which she is charged.  If the Second is met, then there will be no further diplomatic, military, economic, social or scientific contact between our people and those beyond the borders of our system. If it is not met, I have been told that all off-worlders remaining on this planet will be arrested, tried and imprisoned for violating our new laws."  "As for the Skorr Ambassador, I know nothing of him, so I will need to contact my superiors in order to receive an answer on that issue. Since there is much for you to discuss. I suggest that you all take some time to discuss it. I will arrange for you to communicate with your Ambassador through secure channels at 1200 hours today. He needed to get an update from Security on their situation regarding the mentally challenged patients.  He needed an update on their supplies, particularly food and water.  The snack rations had dwindled down right before he left and he had ordered them refilled, to keep the residents of the camp from getting irritable.  It was going to be time for lunch soon and he recalled that at breakfast, the head of Food Preparation had told him that one of their replicators was making a strange noise.  He wanted to see if Engineering had fixed that yet, and determined if it would affect their food supply.  And he wanted to get with the custodial services and make sure that all trash was picked up--Parker counted five discarded plates, a few bits of food, and a PADD on the floor of the common area. Lost in his thoughts, his mind almost didn't register what he saw next.  Two fireballs within seconds of each other engulfed the main entrance and the Sickbay portion of the temporary structure that had been the refugee camp.  Parker blinked, two bright spots left in his vision, and for a moment, he didn't believe what he saw.  Normalcy bias, the psychological phenomenon that occurred when one was surprised with something incredibly destructive during a routine thought or routine act, caused one's mind to nearly erase the destructive event and pretend that it did not happen.  Being a psychologist and aware of this, the counselor recognized it in himself almost immediately and corrected his mind, scanning the horrific sight with frantic eyes.  "There's been an explosion--two explosions!" he reported to those in the shuttle, and as he said it, half of the entire roof collapsed over Sickbay and the common area of the refugee camp.  "Dear God," he whispered as smoke and fire plumed from the area.   Then he realized that as the head of this refugee camp, he now had an entirely new set of responsibilities.  He tapped his combadge.  "Davis to CENTCOM.  There have been two explosions in the refugee area and Sickbay.  Requesting immediate Search and Rescue personnel and the personnel from Charlie CENTCOM to establish a central command center outside the wreckage and provide a safe perimeter for those escaping from the site." Mission: Veil of the Sky Day 4 Stardate: 2414.04.25 (USS Rosenante – Ready Room- CO Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 4- 1040) Bridge duty was proving to be an interesting series of events today. With Viskhard just assigned to head down to the surface of the planet to take over the sensor feeds and with The assault team having secured the space station without any loss of life, Ahmed was glad that the teams were moving to document and disarm the partially converted Antimatter weapon that  the Veil had been designing to alter the dynamics of the current political powder keg. With orbit safe for the crew of the Rosenante and their allies, Ahmed was able to turn his attentions to the latest Starfleet Intelligence reports that were on on the PADD that he was currently reading. The situation was degrading, soon it was believed that the Veil would stop playing nice and would really put forward the effort to drive the federation and their allies from the world. Of course, Ahmed would withdraw if it came to that. A covert operation could be launched to recover the Ambassador if necessary, it just wasn't an ideal situation from which to operate. Xim was on the Bridge monitoring their tactical position, Signos was on the Station along with Lanista, wrapping up the last operational transfers of authority there. Everyone else was planet side. The crew was stretched too thin to operate like this much longer. The vast majority of Rosenante crew were on the planet. There were so few personnel on board that even with the more advanced systems that the Rosenante boasted, Ahmed wondered if they could technically count as a skeleton crew. He had locked his ready room door open so he could reach the bridge without delay, there simply not enough crew to man the stations on the bridge. He was anxious to hear the results of the negotiation, hopeful but doubtful that any sort of accord had been reached. He suspected that this was just a 'horse-and-pony show. It looked good, but in the end it was just posturing.  Still Ahmed had confidence that Ben would do everything he could to achieve the release of the Ambassador. He just doubted that the Veil was really interested at all in her release. His commbadge chirped angrily as he finished reading the last of the intelligence reports. he didn't even have a chance to respond before he heard Viskhard's somewhat frantic voice sounded from the device. =^=Viskhard to Bridge. There has been an explosion at the refugee centre. I am going down to begin rescue attempts.=^= Before Ahmed's hand could even reach his commbadge to belay the junior officer's statement, Viskhard had already beamed down to the surface. The captain was on his feet in an instant, heading for the bridge at a quick pace. His destination was the science station. He had to know if there was radiation or chemicals lingering in the affected area before he could determine any ability to send additional personnel. "Xim, put the refugee camp on the main screen, get me some good resolution. i want to make a visual survey." "Aye, sir." Xim replied as Ahmed reached the station and started a sensor sweep, looking for long-term threats caused by the explosives, or a more overt military assault." =^=Caskie to CentComm and Rosenante.  We have had an explosion at the main entrance to the refugee camp.  I don't have casualty numbers at present but expect multiply casualties and the need for extra security.=^= Ahmed managed to tap his commbadge this time. Commander. Consider yourself in command down there until you see Commander Soma. There is no reason to think that he may not also be in trouble. No indications of their location or magnitude as of now.  We will immediately require additional communications personnel at CENTCOMM and will likely require additional medical and security personnel, medical supplies, and rations.=^= "Salid here, O'Neill," Ahmed answered activating his commbadge from the console rather than tapping it,  "Understood. I'm trying to isolate the exact epicenter of the explosions now." He turned to look at the main view screen. "The blast areas appear to be roughly 100-meters in diameter, with possible casualties unto three times that distance. We are showing structural collapse at the medical center. Sensor scans are showing no radioactive and I have just cleared chemical agents as well. I will have the results of the biological agents scan momentarily, but so far it appears to be a conventional detonation, although a very powerful one." "I will be beaming down all medical personnel remaining on board, along with medical supplies.  A small security team will be following shortly. I simply don't have any additional personnel to send you. I will request assistance from the Skorr. I have transferred command of the Site to Commander Caskie until she is relieved by Commander Soma.
