(Reply Tayla iyw) (Posted by Marilyn) --------------- (Beta Aquillia IV - Refugee Camp, Sickbay - ACSO Lt. jg Viskhard - 1106) Visk still wasn't sure how he'd managed to stagger his way to sickbay. Blake had fallen asleep, but he could feel her breathing against him, so he hadn't panicked... yet. Dr. Fraiser noticed him at the door and came to him right away. “Put her on the biobed. Let me take a look at her.” He practically sighed. "Thank you Doctor." He moved quickly and carefully, and laid her on the nearest biobed. He stepped back only slightly to allow the doctor to run the tricorder over the still form. “Lieutenant, was she buried for long?” Visk nodded again, mute for a second before he foung his voice, "From the time I contacted doctor Caskie until about ten minutes ago, 20 minutes maybe?" Nodding, Tayla looked at her tricorder and said, “She's very sick. She has second and third degree burns to her shoulders and upper torso. There's some signs of severe concussion and a nasty break to her left femur that has broken the skin. It's probably a good thing that she's unconscious.” Visk nodded, "She was so tired, but I made her talk to me, so I could find her. There was a lot of blood." He stared at her, his heart aching to wake her up, have her be fine again. Placing a hand onto his shoulder, Tayla spoke, softly, “She'll pull through, Lieutenant. I promise you that. But I need you to step outside so we can stabilise her. I'll put her into one of the private rooms when she's stable.” Visk hesitated, he didn't want to leave her. The search for her was agonizing and the short trip to the camp sickbay while also somewhat terrifying for him had been easier, because he could sense her breath against his chest. He looked helplessly at the younger doctor. Smiling at him, she replied, “She'll be fine. Go get some fresh air.” Visk nodded awkwardly, "I'll be back." As he left the sickbay, Visk heard the words of the ACMO. “Let's take special care of this one, nurse.” He agreed, ~Take good care of her for me, doctor.~ He went and sat on the nearest flat surface he could find, practically collapsing now that his main purpose was finished. After several moments recovering Visk tapped his commbadge, "This is Lt. Viskhard, is there anyone who needs an extra pair of hands?" His voice was weary, but he knew that his job was to help - and Blake would have him do no less. When he saw Sanok, Jackson came over. "Sanok. What did you need?" Before Sanok responded, he closed his eyes briefly and ran a quick mental exercise through his mind, pushing away the emotions he was allowing himself to feel over the dead Aquillian child. Opening his eyes again, he studied Jackson for a moment. "We are short-handed here. Are you able to assist in search and rescue? There are still people trapped in the debris." (reply Jackson) After Jackson's response, Sanok heard someone approaching. Glancing to see who it was, he saw Ben. Their shuttle had just been sabotaged, and Ben needed answers. "As soon as you're able," said Ben, "I want you to go over the wreckage. I want to know if this was accidental or deliberate. If it was deliberate, try and see if you can figure out what caused the explosion. We may get an idea of who's responsible, if we can piece enough of the cause together." "Of course, sir," said Sanok. It was almost a certainty that the explosion was intentional. With the high standards of maintenance of equipment on the Rosenante, an accident like that was almost impossible. "If the Veil are behind this, we may need to reevaluate our options," said Ben. "Open hostilities was not an outcome I wanted." "Open hostilities were inevitable," said Sanok. "The Veil did launch a military coup, after all." "Do what you can," said Ben. (reply Jackson, Soma, any) (posted by Bob B.) --------------- (USS Rosenante - Bridge - CO Captain Ahmed Ibn Salid - Day 4 - 1119) Salid was running a wide area scan of the area immediately surrounding the refuge camp looking for any signs that the Veil troops that had been harassing refugees were following up the explosions with some sort of military strike, when the sensors registered a sudden release of energy. A quick tap of the keys revealed it to be one of the Rosenante's shuttles, but one that had been grounded and was presumably unoccupied. He just had enough time to register these facts when O'Neill's voice snapped across his commbadge. "O'Neill to Salid." Ahmed reached over and quickly tapped his commbadge, "Salid here, go ahead." "Sir, Commander Soma's shuttle has just exploded. No one was injured or killed. No indication of cause." Ahmed inwardly released a sigh of relief. Losing Soma now would be a real operational hinderance not to mention the loss of a skilled and valued officer. "I recommend everyone on the ground stands by all relief efforts until we can secure the scene, Sir, and I recommend you beam up to the Rosenante immediately." Ahmed understood what O'Neill was saying. He also had a larger picture that he was looking at, one that gnawed at his guts. "Negative Lieutenant, relief efforts are to continue. They are priority, but do everything possible to secure the area so that the SAR teams can do their jobs as safely as possible. Our people know the risks, our job is to do everything we can for these refugees. I'll be down shortly to assess the situation. Do you have any insights as to why the shuttle was targeted beyond the obvious attempt to kill the delegation?" "Sir, my logs show all occupants of that shuttle left at 1040. They were gone approximately one half hour and there were no people within a 100 yard radius. It exploded two minutes ago--in all likelihood, the UNSUBS are still on scene and pose a direct threat to the rescue effort. He knew that he had been flirting with disaster when he had given indications to the federation officers that his opinion and that of his government were not in conjunction but rather in opposition. Still he had not expected to be escorted by a troop of presidential bodyguards into the president's presence so quickly upon returning to make his recommendations. Habrii was standing, looking out at the viewer which was currently displaying a view that was centered on a trio pillars of rising smoke. The president seemed contemplative, and irritated at the same time. It was apparent that Tzorn would need to be extremely careful during the meeting. "Sit down." Habrii stated as Tzorn moved towards the vacant chair opposite the chair that was to be used by the president. "You can wait outside." the president added, obviously speaking to the two security men that had brought Tzorn into the office. Tzorn settled into the chair uneasily. "Do you know how long I have planned and schemed and dreamt of the moment that I would be president of this world? A president that would remove foreign influence from our planet, promote self-reliance, cultural supremacy and artistic accomplishment?" It was a rhetorical question, since Habrii knew full well that Tzorn would not be able to answer that question. The president turned away from the window then, his face bitter with anger and contempt. "Of course you don't. Because you don't understand my dream for our people. But I thought Alaya did. I thought she embraced a world free of alien influence where we would be free to create our perfect society, dedicated to science, art and literature. But I was wrong." Habrii's gaze fell upon Tzorn and the Ambassador could almost feel the smoldering hatred that boiled just beneath the man's surface. "While you were attempting to secure our enduring freedom from the outworlder oppression, Alaya was plotting her own coup. One that would crush any hope of benevolence. She ordered the bombing of the refugee camp. The one set up by the Federation, and then apparently ordered the federation Delegation's shuttle to be destroyed as well." Tzorn was shocked. He knew that Alaya was a little adamant, but he never thought she was a cold blooded killer. "I see." the ambassador mumbled. "Do you Tzorn?" Habrii barked, "Do you really understand? All that I wanted to achieve here was a simple exchange. Their ambassador for their undisputed recognition of our Sovereignty. I did not intend to harm their Ambassador or her people. I only wanted them held, as a bargaining tool to help level the diplomatic playing field. I wanted us free to dissolve whatever treaties or compacts we had made so that we could renegotiate them for better terms. Stricter trade laws, fewer outworlders and better control of our own economy and infrastructure." Tzorn just watched the president as he kneaded his fingers together. "That's all Tzorn. No murderous rampage, no mass murders, no open conflict with outworlders, and certainly no suicide bombers or assassination attempts. But now, I have all of those things. And I will be held responsible." The Ambassador shifted uncomfortably in his chair. "Perhaps not." He said clearly, drawing on his years of negotiating skills to keep his emotions off his face. Habrii's eyes snapped upwards, homing in on Tzorn's as if they were ready to launch missiles. "How so?" he inquired. "Mister president, did you know about the things that Alaya was doing?" Tzorn inquired. "Of course not, beyond the military aspect of deposing the prior regime I did not order her to commit those crimes." Habrii replied. "They are counterproductive to my goals. "Very true. Then I may have a solution to some of the problems we are facing, but you'll have to give me some leeway, and some degree of autonomy to correct things without making them worse." Habrii's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?" "Tell me about the Skorr Ambassador?" Tzorn pushed. "The Skorr ambassador? He was picked up and escorted of the planet. We didn't want to risk open conflict with the Skorr. That would be suicide. But why do you ask me about him?" "Because I have a good reason to believe that the Skorr Ambassador is being held somewhere and that he was not expelled from Beta Aquillia." Tzorn replied. "Not expelled?" The look of confusion on Habrii's face was real enough, but it quickly transformed into concern. "You think Alaya took him?" "Yes. I do. I think that she has another plan for him, one that will thrust us into war." "No." Habrii stated. "Alaya is impetuous and headstrong but she is not reckless. She wouldn't capture the Skorr Ambassador without my knowledge. It would be too far and she would realize that." "Would she?" Tzorn pressed, "She didn't realize that the suicide bombings were too far, or the assassination attempt, did he?" Habrii shook his head. "No." he replied sullenly. "Then it goes to reason that she is responsible for the Skorr Ambassador's disappearance." "Yes it does." "So now we need to conduct damage control." Tzorn replied. Habrii nodded, "Then what do you suggest?" "Stop the shelling of the Hotel owned by the Federation woman. order the troops surrounding the refugee camps to stop harassing Aquillians seeking shelter and aid from the Federation. " "I can't do that." Habrii replied. "You can. You are the president of the planet. If you can not manage that little thing then you are not fit to be president." Tzorn pressed. Habrii's eyes flashed with anger but they quickly subsided. "You are right." "And let me arrange a communication between the Federation and their Ambassador." "Alright, arrange it, but do not conduct it before I am ready." Habrii replied. "Of course." Tzorn acquiesced, " but there is one other thing." "What is that?" Habrii inquired. "We will need to turn Alaya over to the Federation for her crimes." the ambassador stated, "If she refusers to turn over the Skorr Ambassador." Habrii looked into Tzorn's eyes once again and saw the firm resolve there. "I agree, but I will speak with her first." "I don't think that is wise…" "Do not presume too much Tzorn!" Habrii erupted, "I can replace you." The Ambassador nodded, "yes you can." "Go before I decide to throw you in prison." Habrii added. Tzorn nodded and quickly rose from his chair and made his way out of the president's office. It was time to arrange a meeting.
